Last day here and we were debating between Lala's and this place. Lala's was good and we didn't wanna risk it and the last place we eat here was subpar. Well thank goodness we tried this place because for me, it was better than Lala's. To keep it a fair review, I had the chicken and waffle at both places. Lala's was okay. 3.5 stars. This place is almost a perfect score. 4.5 stars. This place has a chicken breast versus Lala's chicken strips. Chicken here has better seasoning and taste fresh (4 stars)But the star of the show is the waffle. Perfect blend of crispy and thick, but stiff fluffy (4.5 stars). We put our name down on the waiting list in about 15 minutes later we were seated not too bad. Our waitress came over pretty quick. On our food came out. It looked good. I really wanted those pancakes. I was a little bummed because when I went to Biden to them, they've been on the griddle a little too long, so the underside was more crispy than soft and light like a pancake should be, but I did like that. They were the sweet cream pancakes. Ham steak was good size cooked well hashbrowns were OK. My brother didn't care for his salad. It was talked with so many onions he couldn't even really eat it. Run of the mill, okay breakfast options. The German pancakes were pretty good. Not the best in the desert but the spot we usually go is across town, so definitely was happy to find a good German pancake closer to home. Skip the eggs Benedict. This is some good old American old-fashioned diner/restaurant quality food .. the omelettes were big and tasty, and there was a slight egg surcharge added to each one of these, which I guess is par for the course nowadays but I wish the restaurant would absorb some of these costs. The farmers omelette was a mix of all three meat, bacon, sausage, and ham. This thing was delicious and Phil and the hashbrowns were extra crispy which I love. My wife got the veggie omelette and she said that was pretty good also which came at Home style potatoes which were crispy crunchy and also delicious. Based on the comment regarding "border patrol" that is now taken down, the negative reactions seemed to stem more from personal opinions about border patrol dining there rather than any actual issue with the quality of the food or service. The food service was a bit slow but they were attentive and the portions were large which we appreciated as the price was a little steep. I got the gravy and sausage eggs Benedict and loved it. Mom and I love Elmer's in Palm Springs and this place looks just like it and has almost the same menu. One of our favorite things there is the German pancake. This one looked the same and was prepared properly however it was dry , very flat on the bottom , and sadly tasteless. I read that this was Elmer's before Sloans took over. It's busy so I guess people like it here. The hash browns tasted like old grease. Fried nicely but not good. My girlfriend loves the banana nut and date pancakes.
