The first time we've seen this place was dinner at a nearby restaurant which shares the same parking lot. With restaurants here in the desert, you never know how busy the place is as its mellow season. Of course with the heat, no one wants to utilize the patio as it's a scorcher during the summer season and they have quite a nice big patio when you walk in. Labor weekend which you expect it to be busy everywhere. When we walked in, it was pretty mellow but did picked up while we were dining. Also it was raining all day which can have a factor with people coming out...lol... Right when you walk in there's the host counter and right behind it the bar area. It was quite big and looked really nice. One side of the restaurant was more of the dining area while the bar area also had more of a casual dining sections. The host was a doll and very sweet. Gave us an option with either a table or a booth which we chose. The place has that clean elegance vibe with the white table cloth and plush booth seating. Fancy chandelier hanging from the ceiling. Also along the side, I believe the large windows can open up to the patio for the open feeling. The place was quite nice and beautiful. Somewhat of an old Hollywood vibe. Menu wise, they were offering a three course summer pre fix tasting menu which we ended up going with. Classic menu does offer a lot of amazing dishes as we seen scanning through. But some of the pre fix dishes wasn't on their classic list so it was nice to have. James took care of us which was great. A sweetheart who was so welcoming and friendly. Very attentive and made sure that we were well taken cared of and that everything was going well the whole dining experience. Great customer service from everyone throughout our visit. Plus the wine list was quite extensive which we did utilize. Started off with a bottle which James informed us that they were out but brought another one for us to try to see if that was to our liking. It was great. With our meal, both went with the pre fixed menu. Three course starting with both the ceaser salad and strawberry salad. Ceaser was great and served with anchovies which were very tasty. Strawberry salad accompanied by candied walnuts and crumbled blue cheese was delicious. Both salad was nice but a little small. Given it was a starter.... Entrees, the 8oz prime rib which I didn't see on the main menu as well as the linguine and clams. Both wasn't in the main menu as it could just have been for the summer pre fixed. A nice piece of meat served to our liking and paired with mashed potatoes, carrots and asparagus sticks. And severed with au jus and creamy horseradish. Linguine and clams in the nice white wine sauce with a good amount of clams which was very tasty and the flavors were great. Both dish was good and would get again. Dessert time, we went with the cheesecake with raspberry coulis and the chocolate mousse. I didn't have any but between the two, the cheesecake was a favorite. Mousse was a bit too sweet as I was informed. But the presentation was lovely. The first experience was amazing. There's so many restaurants in the desert that trying different one can be a hit or a miss. This was a major HIT which we loved. Right from the start with the sweet host who welcomed us in as well as the goodbye. To our amazing waiter, James who was a doll. The whole dining experience was great and an amazing meal to match. We were looking for a new breakfast spot in the desert. This is a gem. The interior is full of beautiful lights and white table clothes. Oh no! We thought it was going to be expensive but it's the same cost as a diner we frequent. We did sit outside since we just completed a three mile hike and we had our pupper. For dessert i brought home the cheese cake. They opened off season and it seems all the kinks are out. Breakfast lunch or dinner you will find something thoughtfully made and presented. My friend had the Chinese chicken salad and my other friend. (I have two) had steak fritte. He orders it with vegetables. They looked delicious but passing on their fries is mistake. Our server, Hector, had a charming and fun personality which definitely enhanced our entire visit. Food: we went for happy hour. The selection was excellent and portions were more than sufficient as well as tasty. The value for the food was great, especially for Coachella valley. The bartender was skilled at her craft and they had another staff who's mission was delivering food from the kitchen to the table to ensure a piping hot plate. Wow, what a lucky find! We hosted our child's baptism reception at California Bistro today and I am beyond grateful for the experience. They were able to accommodate our group of 22 people easily, had no fuss about splitting our checks, and provided ABOVE and BEYOND service to us. Manager Tony felt like an old friend, going out of his way to assure us we would be well cared for (and following through on that promise 100%). Now let me tell you about the food because holy smokes it was amazing. I had the strawberry salad and added a salmon filet. I'm a self proclaimed salmon connoisseur and that filet may have very well been one of the best I've eaten. Also, the strawberries.... I'm not sure who their strawberry supplier is but it has to be some well kept secret because you cannot buy strawberries that fresh and sweet at a grocery store. The dressing was perfectly balanced in a way that complimented the entire plate, without overtaking it. Everyone else's dishes looked equality delicious. Even the coffee was peak quality. The best part of the entire meal was the bill. My husband had to study to receipt to make sure they correctly charged us because at first glance, the bill seemed WAY too cheap for our family of six! (Esp since our teenager ordered a massive steak!) But there was no mistake - we were simply given a fine dining experience at prices even a big family can afford. Came here with a group of 6 for dinner. While we arrived separately were taking our time deciding what to eat because we were visiting, the first round of drink service was lacking, having to ask for a couple of drinks more than once. When we were ready to order, it took a while to flag someone down. The first thing we all agreed on were the rolls tasted like frozen rolls from Costco heated up. There was just no flavor. They also only gave us one pat of butter! To share!!!! And these rolls needed to be smothered in butter to give them any kind of taste. I can't speak for everyone else's food, but I had the Chicken Parm, and it was just OK. The chicken didn't have any, extremely little, breading or seasoning making it taste like grilled chicken covered in cheese with some pasta sauce. The portions were big enough, just not tasty enough to finish. They also failed my refill my Diet Coke test. Not good. The servers were nice enough, just slow. We have been here twice. Once for dinner and more recently for happy hour. The food both times was very good. The service for the happy hour was also excellent. There were few people at happy hour possibly because it is early, only 3-5pm . They may attract more people to the bar if it was longer. The last issue we had at happy hour was a fairly weird one. There was music playing, however one of the workers who I assume was on a break was playing some sort of video on his phone. It was so loud it actually was louder than the music. We didn't complain but it was odd that if owner/manager was in house nothing was said. With all of the fabulous restaurants in this area, they need to do better. read more

Our waitress was Alma & she was amazing also. The table was set with brown napkins but I wanted red. In a flash, brown napkins were exchanged for the red ones. The food was wonderful. All ladies loved what they ordered. All the food came out together & very quickly. I can't say enough good things about my experience there. I don't know why they are not more busy. We had heard good things about California Bistro, and went to try for dinner. It wasn't bad, per se, it just wasn't as good as I hoped. The menu was rather benign, all the usual expected dishes and nothing really stood out. We asked the waiter what was good, and he struggled to answer. Got the calamari to start - crispy, not chewy, but the sauce lacked flavor. The chicken Marsala was a little dry, sauce and noodles were a little bland. Having read some positive reviews for this new spot, we gave it a try for breakfast, which is served 8:00-11:00. It was nearly eleven, but they assured us we could order breakfast, though by the time we were starting to eat, the lunch crowd showed up and the place got more lively. Perhaps too much so, as the noise level was beyond our preference. Service was polite, prompt, professional and attentive. One of us had ab omelette with some fruit and two slices of completely dry toast, which needed something to put on it, maybe butter, more likely jelly or jam. Two of us had pancakes, one with blueberries and one plain, but they added sliced strawberries to the plain order anyhow. Both were tasty and filling. This restaurant has three serving times, breakfast, lunch and dinner, and a full bar for the after work audience. On the positive side, ambiance is very nice. Sat at the bar. Bartender was great. I was disappointed with the menu. I had a hard time finding something I wanted. I ended up with the tuna on crispy rice. That was very sad. The rice was not crispy, tuna was ok. I ordered the gluten free eggplant Parmesan. Hardly any eggplant and too much sauce and cheese. I applaud the restaurant for having a gluten free option but it was poorly done. While sitting at the bar two people who sat down ended up leaving as they were dissatisfied with the service as they waited a long time and no one ever came over to take a drink or food order. I hope they get it together as the location and venue are very nice. I hope they re-think the menu. I would like to see them succeed but a lot needs to improve. read more

It is sandwiched in between Willies and Foxy's on the corner of Frank Sinatra and hwy. 111. Upon entering it has stark white walls and black floors. I joined a friend from Palm Springs at the bar. We each had a glass of wine, I ordered the mango shrimp salad, which was ample with very large perfectly chilled, deveined shrimp and avocado ....he ordered the Turkey sandwich with seasoned beer battered fries. There was a delightful aioli in the sandwich and a side of cranberry sauce. Our waiter/bartender was extremely attentive and our meals are delivered in under 10 minutes.
