Many visits over the years, as this is very close to our desert home and always provides a solid meal. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner served from 7am - 7pm. Service is good/attentive, considering how busy they usually are. There are two indoor dining areas, a bar, and a small front porch with two small tables. Limited parking spaces, but there is on street parking within the industrial park. Limited bar items like, beer/wine, champagne/mimosas (orange and cranberry juice available), or Bloody Mary's. Coffee with regular or vanilla and hazelnut creamers. Soda fountain drinks with free refills. Everything we've ordered (usually breakfast items) has been good, and my wife swears that their Chilaquiles are the best, and she's a very picky Mexicana. Good food, reasonable prices, and generous portions. Definitely worth a visit if you haven't already given them a try. read more

The servers were very welcoming. They have a small bar area where you can sit. We are planning on going back this Sunday. The only drawback is the parking. It is very limited. We drive 496 miles to eat here! It's one of the restaurants on our check list when we visit the desert from San Francisco. We always have the Sunshine Cafe omelette that is not on the menu. Had it one time when it was the special and have always special ordered it since. It's a perfectly cooked omelette with crispy bacon, avocado, cheese, salsa, sour cream... it's like a bacon burrito disguised as an omelette. I order it with hash browns (extra crispy) and toast. It's so satisfying. But, the best part of our meal is (drum roll please) JOE. He is so cordial and nice. He goes out of his way to give you 5 star service. He's the best and the smiling face of the restaurant. It's a local place. Nothing fancy. Just good home cooked food where locals go. read more

Here's a more informal version of your review: Food - We got the full stack and the two eggs with a sausage patty combo, which comes with hash browns and toast. The pancakes were huge, fluffy, and so good. If you're sharing, definitely go for the full stack! We asked for scrambled eggs, so the only reason I'm taking off a star is because they weren't exactly how we wanted, but it still felt like a cozy, home-cooked meal. Service - The service here is super friendly, chill, and attentive. As soon as we walked in, someone greeted us, and we got to pick where we sat. They checked in on us just the right amount too. Ambiance - This place is kind of tucked away on a corner, but it's such a hidden gem. It has that old-school, vintage vibe, kind of like a restaurant you'd find by a lake or river. I think the workers there deliberately were trying to sabotage to service and tip. I used to come to the Sunshine Cafe often. When I moved here, in 2015, I would stop at the Sunshine Cafe for dinner, on my way home. I could sit at the counter and have a decent dinner, for not that much money. They often had a daily special, which I would often try. Those days are long gone. In the past few years, the prices have gone up considerably. Ok, other restaurants have done the same. I don't mind paying for quality, but I don't see the value anymore. When they removed the stuffed peppers from the menu, I switched to the lasagna. It was good, but not great. The last time I had ordered it, I swear that tomato paste was used, as the tomato flavor was concentrated and overpowering that I couldn't eat it. I sent it back, which I never do. So, I didn't order that again. Tonight, I ordered a chili size. The server had no idea what I was talking about. So, I pointed to the item, on the menu. I could see that she didn't know the menu well. The menu said that the chili size had sourdough. I asked for potato salad, instead of fries. I'm glad I did. (photo uploaded) I got a hamburger patty covered with chili. There was no sourdough. (Sourdough is a strange choice, as most everywhere puts a hamburger bun underneath.) That wasn't the end of the world for me, so I didn't say anything. I definitely don't need the extra carbs! A small ramekin of shredded cheese and a small ramekin of chopped onions were on the side of the plate. There was also a dish of potato salad. I took a bite of the burger and chili and was immediately surprised at how salty the burger patty was. It was more than aggressively seasoned. The chili was delicious. Had I gotten fries, which would have been salted, it all would have been too much. If I got a little potato salad with each bite, it helped. I didn't send it back because I was hungry and didn't want to wait. Note to self, don't get the chili size. It wasn't the best dinner I've had there. But the real kick in the pants was my iced tea. An iced tea is now $5. A large soda is $5.95 at the Mary Pickford theater across the street and they offer a larger size and a refill. This may be my last visit. If I'm going to spend this kind of money, I want everything perfect. read more

What a great spot. So unassuming from the outside, but inside is a cool classic diner vibe with great food. Chile relleno was so fresh and delicious. Refried beans did not taste like they're out of a can, but who knows. Grilled ham and cheese was exactly what you would expect. Diana, our server was so pleasant and friendly. I love this small intimate cafe. This is my second time visiting sunshine cafe. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! When we had arrived there were people all ready there .. and that' was 25 mins after opening. We sat next to their booth. To our surprise the table was dirty. The buser brought over our menus and mugs. He didn't mention anything about the table being dirty and neither did i. He left and came back with a rag and wiped it clean! I didn't catch our servers name but she made great recommendations. My family and I ended up having a delicious breakfast. I ended up having their Mexican eggs Benedict and they were FANTASTIC!! Perfect amount of flavor and spice! I definitely recommend them if you're a fan of eggs Benedict and are feeling inspired to try something new. My brother had the Tuna melt sandwich and my gosh that was delicious too. I had to take a bite from his plate! Def recommend that as well. You can't go wrong with this breakfast location. It's been part of the desert for a very long time. It saddens me to say that after 24 years of eating at this restaurant has to come to an end. The owner has jacked up prices so high, my family and myself cant afford to eat there anymore. $18 for "1" pancake, $6 for a soda, $28 for an omelet, $9.50 for a slice of store bought pie? Are they kidding? There is no excuse for for this thievery except maybe owner is a bit greedy. Every week after church we would go there, but no more. The electricity went out in Palm Springs this morning, so we decided to take an opportunity to try somewhere new for breakfast. Sunshine Cafe's photos looked promising, but we were not thrilled with the Belgian waffles we ordered. Mine was supposed to come with berries (per the menu) and instead came with melon, pineapple, and grape which aren't my favorite fruits. Also, the waffles tasted worse than those you'd find at a hotel continental breakfast... for $20 each! The desert is known for having bad food, but this cafe takes it to the next level with insanely steep prices too. The server was nice, but that isn't enough to keep us coming back. read more

Came here for lunch since it's near my job. Here's what I la la loved: *Price point vs quality of meal - on the money! I ordered a tuna melt with a side salad - very fresh and the tuna wasn't overly sweet, overly salty or overly wet. (No one likes gloppy tuna-blech!) I digress it was on sourdough bread and had cheddar. Sooo good. I got fries with it and a side salad because I'm healthy af ;) *Customer service is great, everyone seemed genuinely happy and helpful. The inside gives more of a mom and pop, living room-esk feel. Definitely a come as you are establishment. Here's what I didn't like so much *Location!! It's located on a small corner and the parking on site is too tight and when pulling in or out you definitely have to be ultra careful , there were huge trucks flying down the street! Everything is overpriced so we just had eggs,hash browns and toast, again it was really good for what it was! The guy that came after us got served before us , he did get seated first though because we wanted to wait a couple minutes for them to wipe down a booth seated table. One of my favorite spots in the desert... I usually come here when I'm HUNGRY. Their portions are two meals worth and yes, the food is fantastic. Service is never an issue, in my humble opinion of course, even if they do get busy. If you're the kind of person that needs to be waited on constantly, this place is not for you. Around breakfast and lunch time, it can get packed, but again, the food is worth the wait. One thing I will say, is that when it does get busy, you do have to get creative to find parking in the area. There's spots across the street at the theater, the bar on the opposite of the smaller street the place is a corner on, and if there is street parking, you may need to walk a bit. I'd say there's room for a good 50-60 people? But I am guessing on that one. If it is packed, you may need to wait. The building itself is a bit inconspicuous, as it does blend with the auto shops a bit in the area... so slow down if you're gonna look for it. They usually have one of those little inflatable bouncy thingys and a sandwich board outside their front door as well for more visibility. There is a handicap ramp on the left side of the door for those of us that need it, but once you get inside, it maybe a challenge, especially if you use any sort of special equipment for your needs. I use a cane, but I can imagine if someone where in a wheelchair, it may be an issue. The prices are average, some things more than others on their menu, but again, the food is worth it. Ambiance is cozy and has a warm country diner feel with people working there making you feel more than welcome. All in all, I highly recommend this restaurant- because it's hard to find a place that has simple basic comfort food, with good people at a reasonable price. Especially in the desert where things can get gimmicky and unnecessarily too posh. read more
