Went out for breakfast today and decided to go to one of my old favorite spots, Elmer's in Palm Springs\. Unfortunately, what a disappointment\. The service was okay--friendly, but nothing out of the ordinary\. I ordered the Eggs Benedict, which was $19\. I thought, "Well, I don't go out for breakfast that often, so why not?" Unfortunately, the Eggs Benedict was horrible\. The sauce tasted more like gravy than hollandaise\. There was absolutely no lemon flavor, and when I asked for extra sauce, I tasted it again--it was definitely more like gravy, and I could actually taste the flour\. The English muffins themselves were also very small\. I've always loved Elmer's, which is why this was such a disappointment\. Prices have gone up everywhere, and I understand that, but when you're paying $19 for breakfast, you expect the food to be good\. Buyer beware\. We popped in here for a quick bite after a long weekend here in Palm Springs. Parking wasn't too bad, but the lot was pretty full. Wait time was about 10 minutes for a party of two, shorter than our estimated weight time. We got the German pancake and their famous potato cakes. The pancake was very generously portioned, and a nice mix of savory and sweet with the bacon and eggs providing a nice contrast. The potato cakes were crunchy and the green onions were a nice touch. With the omelette, we had the choice of a side (specific ones were to choose from), and we got the pancakes, YUM! My wife & I are not from the area but whenever we visit Elmer has always been on our list of must go to for breakfast.....until Sept 16, 2026 things changed. My wife and I traveled 3 hours, arrived at Elmers with my service dog who was parched and hungry. Now all of our past visits since 2022, have been great with my service dog. Whether inside or outside, we were always treated with respect and courtesy. We've always been able to give him water and a snack while we ate we never made a mess & hes very we'll bahaved. Today when we walked in, a manager names Rosita went to take us tonthe outside area & i stopped her & stated I would rather be inside, we just drove 3 hours, we were hot and needed the AC. She said "oh, ok & i see you have a dog, you need to sit outside". I politely showed her he was a service dog and I carry all his documents with me and asked "arent service dogs allowed inside, if not we will go somewhere else?" She said "yes, but he isnt allowed any food or water inside the restaurant, jhe can eat and drink OUTSIDE". I explained hes always been allowed. She stated "Service dogs are trained to go 8-10 hours without food or water he will be fine without". 100% INCORRECT. I argued the facts and she was rude and disrespectful I am aware of the laws having a service dog. Our waiter Donaldo was great though, his service was on point, friendly and very attentive and the food was amazing. Its the managers attitude that made this visit one that left a bad taste in our mouth in which we will never return. Service Dogs ARE allowed by law and should never be refused water or food. You know what the deal is about this place. Their famous German pancakes. A must if you haven't tried it. The place opens all day but we tend to only come for breakfast. So I suggest putting your name down early. I waited about 45 minutes to get a table for 4 (3 adults, 1 child). Inside looked like a typical busy breakfast spot with booths and tables. They also had a patio area and I believe they had fans but I couldn't quite remember. The hostess was extremely friendly and provided a nice kids menu full of activities and crayons. Unfortunately, they ran out of their crab omelette which is what I had planned to order and I was pretty bummed about it BUT I forgot all about it when I took a bite of their French toast. It was fluffy, moist, and perfectly sugared. The slices were pretty large too--you could definitely share it with another person. We also ordered mimosas and a few other dishes around the table. Perfectly cooked, and with the tartness of the lingonberry it was just delicious! I had to snag some of the potato pancake and boy was it great! Silky smooth, crisp on the outside, and just absolutely delicious. A week later, on our last day, we went to Elmer's for a big breakfast as we knew we were not going to be fed on our long flight home. I went for the German pancake again, this time with the cherry topping. It was just as delicious, but if I were to return, I would ask for the cherries on the side. I am a regular customer and just wanted to register my vote against the piped music at a fixed volume, that the waiter says can't be changed because it is controlled by a third party provider off-site. This place is a hidden gem that I almost don't want to write a review. Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day and I could eat it for blunch, brunch, lunch, linner, and dinner. So it should come as no surprise that diners are one of my absolute favorite spots to dine. I love this place so much, my husband and I came in for brunch the day after our wedding.
