I have been buying bbq from here for years and it has always been good quality. This last visit the quality of the bbq seems to have taken a dive. The brisket was very dry, hard and salty. I bought one pound of brisket and one slab of ribs and three orders of fries. That set me back over $52.00. I am sad to say the brisket wasn't edible. The ribs weren't that special, and unfortunately the fries were from thier freezer. I couldn't eat the fries, way too mushy, and the meat got thrown away. My family asked that I not go back there again. I don't know what happened but I could have bought better bbq and more sides at Dicky's. read more

BBQ is good when no sauce is needed. They DROWN their meat in sauce, and claim it makes the meat taste better. NOT! I asked for no sauce, and the owner poured it on anyway. Attached next door to a convenience store and gas station it's a little tricky to see from the road. I won't return any time soon. read more

Damn good barbecue it hits the spot every time, ribs are not oversmoked and are succulent and the brisket!!! Forget about it juicy and great flavor this guy knows his bbq and I love the thin tomato, spicy, vinegary sauce I get extra some sometimes just to get extra because its that good end of story. I come here all the time. The loaded baked potato is amazing. Most places just split the potato, throw on some toppings, and four bites later you are left with a dry, bland potato to eat. Here, they spread the potato out, bigger than an out stretched hand, COVER it in yumminess so there is not a dry, bland spot to be found, and it is more than one person can normally eat. The people working there are the best. Larry, the owner, learns what costumers want fast. I walk in and he starts my order right away. He is also extremely nice and lets you sample if you want. I can't tell enough people to try this place. I have yet to find a place that comes close. read more

Great little Barbecue place I have been ignoring for the last couples of years. My bad-this is some pretty damn good barbecue! The place is small(owner is the only one working there)and unassuming in a tiny strip mall anchored by a Fina station, I believe. The menu is not extensive-but that is fine. What he does he does very well. Sliced or chopped beef,ribs,pork, and sausage are all on the menu. I went with two sammies-sliced beef and sausage. They were both very good. They had a very nice smokey flavor and the sauce was very good-a nice tang. I also got a side of fried okra and it was awesome. If however you care about your sodium intake or limiting the abuse you give your heart the okra is not for you! I wanted to get some banana pudding but he had run out. I was OK with that until the guy behind me talked about how great it Osmond blowing was the term he used). I must confess I felt a little cheated at that point! Was it the best BBQ I have ever had? No. Was it the best I have ever had in Mesquite? Maybe. The food ranking itself would have probably been a four but I bumped it the one star because the owner is such a nice guy and really seems to have a passion for his work. An awesome little spot I frequent since its around the corner from my house. The sliced beef is buttery and flavorful and good enough to eat dry but you won't go wrong with the bbq sauce. Bow down to the Kings of BBQ! Slab's BBQ is great, a tiny take-out only place next to a Texaco Station just off of Hwy 30 in Mesquite, TX. From the outside this place looks a little sketch but the food inside shines through the rough exterior. The sliced beef is thickly cut and tender, but hearty. The BBQ sauce is an amazing compliment with the slightly charred beef to give it a smokey, tangy flavor. I also got the Baked Potato with the works, topped with chopped pork. Delicious! Even though the menu selection is limited, the results are very tasty! The prices are great too! The potato itself could have been a meal on its own, but it was only 6 bucks! just went here yesterday.Food was pretty decent .I got ribs and sausage .It wasnt bad at all :) the ribs were good but kinda rubbery but it had lots of flavor .The bread helped me consume most of it as for the bannana pudding, when I came a guy was in the back making it .He was opening up a large can of pudding and sprinkling vanilla wafer cookies in the pan.I was glad that I could see my food being prepared , BUT it was kinda weird to me ..... no gloves.Then he said put it in the icebox when I get home.I was like ok...but I wanted my pudding now :( so I just stopped by braums to satisy my craving. The first time I went here, the ribs were on point. The second time I went, it was later in the evening and was getting off work. I purchased the ribs hoping to sit down after a 10 hour shift and lick bbq juice off my fingers but was sadly disappointed. The ribs were as hard as my belt. They got chunked in the trash. I know I was there an hour before close, but in my opinion, if I were thr owner, I would have been, "Look, these ribs have been sitting here awhile.....you want to try them to see if it is ok for you?".....or I would not have sold them because to me it is not worth it to loose a customer who would potentially come in frequently for some buck I just wanted to collect today......I dont like to be taken advantage of.....who does and my reinforcment of this occurring is that the man was trying to put sauce on them and and I told him not to and he said they would taste better and goes on about the special sauce being his sauce he makes. I dont like bbq with sauce on it and when I got home, I found out why he was so pushy for the sauce. read more

Ok, i would never give such a hole in wall place 4 stars, but the owner was so nice. Didn't catch his name, but thin black guy who is passion about his BBQ. I guess he could tell ive never been before, so he head to back and cuts up some meat for me to try out. Spicy sausage was great and i don't usually care for it. Food wasn't the greatest, but sure wasn't bad either. Next time i have to try there banana pudding. Walk up and drive up only, no dinning in. This inexpensive little barbecue spot in Mesquite sells the best brisket and sausage we've ever had. The owner is a terrific guy who offered us free samples on our first visit because he's so proud of what he does. And he SHOULD be proud. The brisket, in particular, had an excellent "kick" to it and their barbecue sauce is pure perfection. Highly recommend the made-to-order okra, too. We can't wait to go back. Seriously, I go to Slabs at least weekly. I live in Farmers Branch. 20 minute drive when the traffic isn't bad. Let me tell you that this is probably the only place in DFW to get this kind of BBQ. The pork sandwich was amazing, the tender meat mixed with that amazing sauce was to die for! I read all of the rave reviews so I had to try it. I love exploring new dfw bbq joints so I could not pass up this opportunity to add to the list. I had the two meat plate with beans and fried okra. The ribs were dry, tough, and not smoky enough. They were cut in a way that made them more "riblets" than full ribs and the meat was very low quality. I am not 100% certain, but I think my brisket was oven roasted vs. smoked. If it was smoked, I could not tell. They pulled the frozen okra right from the plastic bag to the fryer...so ehhh. For the finale.....their bbq beans were literally pork and beans straight from the can. It was funny to me as it should be embarrassing to them to even have this on their menu. I was truly shocked. The 2 meat platter set me back $14 bucks so it is not like it is even cheap bbq. read more

Did not enjoy this place at all! I told my husband that there was no BBQ smell inside or out, it probably isn't good. It was cooked in the oven. We asked for sliced beef and and it was cubed? No smoke ring or BBQ flavor. The beans were pork n beans from a can. The potato salad was decent though. Will not be going back. read more
