I was visiting my friend in Mesquite and we were looking for a place to eat. I stumbled across Freckle's on Instagram so we decided to try it. We got the 3 piece tender combo, which comes with a lot of fries, a piece of bread, pickles, a jalapeño and 1 sauce. We also ordered a side of fried okra and fried corn. The chicken was so good! It tasted so fresh and I liked the seasoning on it as well. It also didn't taste super oily or have a weird oily after taste like some chicken places have. The fries were also pretty good! Regarding the sides I liked the corn more than the fried okra but the okra wasn't bad. My only complaint is that I wish they gave us atleast two sauces with the meal but other than that everything else was pretty good! read more

I ordered a 2pc dark combo, hubby ordered 4pc dark combo. Chicken was good and fresh, however, I didn't appreciate getting just drumsticks only and no thighs. My order totaled to be $30 and all I got was (small) fries, pickles, bread and a total of 6 (small) drumsticks? Freckles y'all got to do better by your customers. I found this place because of Twitter and a guy that was referred to as the Evil Keith Lee. Apparently he gives distasteful reviews on places etc hence the nickname. I've seen like two of his videos and didn't care for his delivery. Moving on, he decided to go to places he gave bad reviews to give them a second chance. I moved to DFW in 2014 from Chicago and I haven't found good chicken yet. I've been to Rudy's etc. The review this time was heart warming. He said the food is a complete 180 from the last time but what truly won me over was the owner's vulnerability and passion. He said that they had just opened and that he was HURT by that review, life has been lifing and as a man trying to make it, you felt his pain. Restaurants are a TOUGH business and most don't make it so for that review to come out at that time could've killed his dream but he locked in and made some changes and apparently it was for the better. At that point, I was sold and I was going to support regardless of quality of the food, after 10 years of searching for good chicken I had low hopes lol. Listen here, I don't know if it was the initial review, god, or big mama from soul food but that chicken was made with the love of everything that's holy!!! Everything is made to order so it will take some time and there were quite a few people in there. The chicken was crispy, juicy, FLAVORFUL, that finishing seasoning hits DIFFERENT!!! The fries were cool, nothing special. They had the finishing seasoning on them as well, I had added some more salt and pepper and it took em up a notch. I had the kool-aid was good. It was sweet but not overly sweet. The only knock I had about it was the drink was a little warm, it could've used more ice and I always order drinks with lite ice but didn't this time. Not a huge deal. This place is about 35 mins from me with no traffic and 50-60 mins with traffic so I won't be making the journey often, but if I'm ever close to this place, I'm stopping and getting food off GP... I first heard about this place when a friend of mine made a social media post back in June. I knew I had to try it. I finally made my way over, and it was everything I hoped for. The customer service goes above and beyond as I order, and the staff member, who I can assume is probably the owner?, is one of the friendliest people I've ever encountered. You can tell by the interaction that she is a caring person who is passionate about bringing joy with every bite she serves. I ordered off the only menu I saw, which did seem a little limited with only wings and tenders essentially. I got the wing basket, tender basket, and gizzards only. I mentioned wanting an order of fries and was told my chicken already came with fries, so I said OK. While waiting on the food, I witnessed the staff having a wholesome conversation with a young man, and it just further proved how sweet and down to earth she is. My food was cooked fresh to order. When I picked it up at the window, she let me know she went ahead and gave me the fries. Above and beyond for customer service. When I got in the car with the food, the delicious aroma filled the air. Once I got home, I saw a mountain of fries in the 3 baskets. The gizzards were some of the best I ever had with the perfect balance of crunch and tenderness. My chicken wings were extremely flavorful, and despite the drive back home, they remained nice and crisp. I can't say much about the tenders since my daughter devoured them before I could get a piece, but I snagged a good size crumb she must have not seen, and it was very good. As for the chicken selection, I reached out to my friend who first put the place on my radar. I asked him about the limited menu, and he said they typically have the traditional legs and thighs, etc. So I told him I'd definitely ask about that the next time I go. Tried on 3 different days to call in an order. The first 2 times I didn't order because they didn't have greens or Mac n cheese. The 3rd day they didn't have greens or Mac, so I finally settled for fries and corn with 3 pc dark chicken. Grease did not taste fresh. Chicken was ok but the grease definitely affected the taste. Fries and corn (1/2 cob) were ok. Came with bread and pickles. Food was 2 stars. Service was friendly and prompt. Minimal gas station dining area was clean.
