I agree with the Yelpers who mentioned that people should not sleep on gas station chicken. This restaurant is a place I plan to frequent. I have to provide a disclaimer. I am biased. My mommy makes the BEST fried chicken. People paid her to fry chicken. That's how good she is. With that being said, the gentleman who fried my chicken at Freckles can fry his behind off. Wow! The kitchen is clean, which is a plus for me. He fries it fresh to order. The skin was crispy, and the meat was moist and tender. He used the right amount of seasoning. Even the bread that the chicken was placed on tasted delicious. I know its because the seasoning from the chicken was on the bread. The customer service is outstanding too. Saw all the good evokes and thought I'd check them out. Located in a little corner in a gas station Conveinience store. Chicken is made fresh to order, so pack your patience. It's worth the wait. When I pulled up to the small restaurant, I was taken aback because Waze led me to the Whip In gas station located on the corner of Northwest and I30 in Mesquite, TX. When I pulled up, I was like ‍, not the gas station chicken. haha. I decided to go in and give them a chance. The restaurant is clean, the Cashier was very friendly and nice, and the food was lip smacking. Food Review: Fried Chicken Wings - seasoned perfectly, fried hard and crispy, to create the best crunch. ohhhhh so delicious. French Fries - long strips of potatoes lightly fried and well seasoned. Fried Corn - hold on! how y'all do that? a whole ear of corn, seasoned, battered and fried golden brown. Sooooo freakin good!!! Dinner Rolls - soft and good. I arrived and after I ordered was told they only had wings and tenders. Not the end of the world, so I ordered a 3 piece wings to go with okra. Once I got back to my hotel I was surprised to notice I only received 2 wings. And my okra was half soggy fries. Wings were cooked will and seasoned so there's that. The building was insanely hot which it's Texas so I get it. I payed for a side of Freckles sauce and I'm sure it's 95% mayonnaise. I ordered a two piece white with fries. It came with pickles, peppers, and one slice of bread. The chicken was crispy and had an okay flavor. The home fries were limp and scarce. I asked what freckle juice was, and he replied, " it's like kool-aide." After that, I didn't even want to ask what freckle sauce was.
