Chicken breast and fries
Tomas H.

I have Driven by here many times and wondered how it is. Well today I stopped and man I'm happy. Very good and hot chicken. Got 3 pieces 2 legs and a breast and fries and some Fried okra. The seasoning was good and everything was hot and fresh. I may pick this over Rudy's chicken for now on.

Two of my lovely thighs!

Chicken House has been a favorite for many years. I have a Popeye's and a Golden Chick within walking distance of me, but I can't be bothered with that nonsense. I make the 20 minute drive to Chicken House whenever I get that craving. The best chicken is when they first open but consistently good all day long, super crispy and nicely seasoned. Last time I was there I ordered ice tea. I really only drink unsweet tea but I really wanted something to drink and the only other options was sodas (or maybe water, I guess). Wow, this was the best sweet tea I have ever had. So strange but I will order it again.

I've been curious about this place for some time, even when it was Brother's Chicken. Last night after happy hour I was feeling a little hungry. There aren't many drive-through options driving down Gaston, so I was prepared to make something at home. But then I saw the OPEN sign on the Chicken House so I made a quick turn to the drive-through. Ordering from the drive-through proved to be challenging, as the person taking my order didn't understand me, and I didn't understand him. I went ahead and pulled up to the window and ordered from a sweet lady. After taking my order, she asked me to pull around, which drives me nuts when there's no one behind me. But whatever. I ordered the chicken finger basket and it took forever for it to come out (pro-tip: call ahead). Finally home I enjoyed the chicken very much. The chicken was juicy and flavorful. The gravy was good, although it didn't taste homemade or anything, but that was okay with me. The two pieces of white bread were a nice addition as well as the fries. The fries were greasy, but they tasted gooOOOd. If I'm ever in a pinch again for fast food I'll remember Chicken House for a future visit, fo sho!

Entrance to drive through is on the right side of the building (north side)

Hot and delicious fried chicken at a great price! Super fast and friendly drive through service. Got the chicken dinner with 2 thighs for $5.25. Came with fries, 2 slices of bread, some pickles and pickled jalapeño. They even have a cheaper option to get chicken by the piece, which is what I'll do next time, cause the chicken is so good, that's all I need!

6.48 gizzard snack.

Noticed ladies working in the dining room to assure tables are clean as soon as customers leave. Once your meal is ready, they will call your name or someone will bring it to your table. Retro decor. Loved the music. Located across from SMU. You have the college crowd, residents from the neighborhood, grandparents with their grandchildren, and drive thru all buzzing with conversation. I found the chicken livers lightly battered, crispy on the outside and very tender meat on the inside. Mashed potatoes, gravy, and green beans were my sides. All tasty. Add additional seasonings and pepper sauce if you prefer. Be sure to check out the banana pudding. I requested extra meringue. Dessert was made fresh and tasted great. Pick-up, drive through, or dine in. Side note: Although there is no place for a tip when paying for your order... I always leave a tip on the table or hand it to the ladies working there. Much deserved for their hard work, friendly smiles, and pleasant attitude.

Tonight my server, Ary, was very warm, attentive, and knew the menu very well, and offered me excellent recommendations. Then I had the chicken Parm and the butterscotch cake, both her recommendations. And I can't believe it is so much food for the amount I paid, I'm going to have some amazing leftovers later. I will definitely be returning, I've had the pizza before, and it is one of the best ever, and I keep hearing about the chicken pot pie, but I haven't tried it yet.

This is not a problem for those who need to bring in a wheelchair, rollater, walker, or stroller as they are impeccablely supportive, as well as very accommodating. On busy days that we have decided to dine in at this establishment, it has never been a problem to manipulate my varied tools throughout the restaurant. Parking sometimes can be a little tight but don't let that worry you because people are always coming and going. For details regarding our most recent meal, please see the following: Appetizer: We order the Deviled Eggs. The eggs were seasoned appropriately and not too salty. Moreover, the eggs were not over cooked and the yolks we nicely whipped. Entry: I order the chicken and waffles while my husband ordered the chicken fried steak. Both were delicious. The chicken was moist and not dry whist the waffle was fluffy with little crispy edges. It was a textural wonderland. I personally do not like syrup or other toppings on my waffles (weird I know) however my husband does and he said the syrup was good. Consequently, when I eat waffles, texture and flavor really matter to me. It was slightly sweet and paired nicely with the seasoned chicken. Additionally, the chicken fried steak melted on our tongues like butter. The meat was not over cooked, tender and the steak cut smoothly on our knives. The umami flavor of the steak and the robust yet well rounded seasoning of the breading paired nicely with the buttery mashed potatoes and the white gravy that accompanied the meal. We have enjoyed eating at this restaurant many times. I have never had overcooked or undercooked chicken. Each time, I am greeted with a kind smile and service is quick especially on busy times. Needless to say that I recommend this restaurant. Yet since this is a review, I will say it. I recommend this restaurant. Happy Eating. Thankfully, that is NOT the experience I had at Haywire! I ate here on August 9th, 2025 and enjoyed everything about it. I was with a large party but would love to return for a more intimate experience. On this Saturday, my younger cousin was graduating from Parker University so I was in town for the weekend. At around 1pm, I was one of the first to arrive at the restaurant. Unfortunately the parking is a bit confusing. There was construction being done on the same street when I went but there's a parking garage for customers that's difficult to navigate AND the elevator that connects wasn't operating at the time which was an issue for many (but not me, I got a good spot & walked). My party hadn't all arrived yet so I took a gander. Upon entering the tall doors, the space breathes southwestern elegance: wooden structure, leather seating, separate dining areas with highlighted ranch-style art. The abundance of space gives it an open-concept feel. The lighting fixtures are modern, the space was dim but not too low, with an option to utilize the large windows also. I was quiet impressed at the overall presentation. When my party did arrive, I wanted to keep it simple so I ordered the Chicken Cobb Salad and a Hibiscus Haze with Vodka. The table shmoozed as we ate some of the appetizers: the Crab Dip & Green Tomatoes, both amazing. The food did take some time but, considering it was 10-12 of us, that's expected. The Hibiscus Haze was splendid: smooth & flavorful, a great concoction. Cobb salads are usually pretty thick but this one was HEARTY. It came in a large bowl stuffed with the all the toppings. The dressing it was tossed with was well balanced but could've used a tad bit more. With some pepper & a little ranch, I was set! I defeated the salad but it also left me stuffed to the gills. Satisfying meal that I would order again! There are tons of restaurants to dine at in Dallas & sometimes you never know which is worth your time. Despite the inconvenience of parking, I'd bet my bottom dollar that this is a good place to eat. Whether you want a fine dining experience, it's a special occasion or just want a good drink with a meal, Haywire has enough to satisfy all interests.

WILL NEVER BE BACK!…read more HATED. EVERY. MOMENT. OF. THIS. PISS. POOR. EXPERIENCE. EVERY. SINGLE. MOMENT. VALET. NOT. FREE. I called before deciding where to eat on a Sunday afternoon to confirm parking situations. Parking is not easy downtown so this played a huge factor in figuring where, out of the dozens of brunch places, to eat. Definitely a bit of a walk to get accommodated at the actual restaurant so valet seemed the most reasonably enticing for parking solutions. Well, I called and spoke with the lady at the front desk. I confirmed with this little girl FOUR TIMES IF 1. They had valet available today 2. If it was complimentary. Come to find out it was not complimentary. And $7 for parking just doesn't sit well with me when there are ample free options else where with satisfying beverage, meal, ambiance, and service. All of which, I DID NOT GET AT HAYWIRE. I come in and although I had a reservation that I was 10 minutes early for while noticing tables available, I was told by that same girl who lied to me about parking I needed to take a seat. Reassuring me that it would only take two minutes to be seated. 10 minutes later I see coupled and groups walking in and guess what? They were immediately sat. While I am waiting to be sat at one of the three clean tables I'm staring at. I finally tell my boyfriend I am about to eat at the bar and he goes to the hostess stand to inform them our frustration and guess what? We were sat immediately. I get seated and there are two standing fans placed next to my table that's blowing my hair all over the f*****g place. I had to tell them to turn them off. What? No AC in this place either?? We immediately ordered and got the elk tacos for an appetizer. The tacos are WAY too spicy and way too salty. Too spicy AND too salty?? They're a no for me. You literally can't taste anything because of both! I HATED these little tacos. Probably the worst I've ever had. Ever seen someone attempt to pinch a bit of salt to season and the entire top comes off?? These tacos. My boyfriend had the chicken fried steak. He loved it (loves spicy and seasonings because he's Cajun) but I tried it and it was over seasoned. Again? Couldn't taste what I was eating. The mashed potatoes were divine. Enjoyed those! And then the green beans were tasteless. Hahaha what a joke. I ordered the barbacoa chilaquiles and it was literally too spicy to eat. Inedible. My eyes teared up, my nose started running, and I couldn't taste anything after a couple bites of the spice. I was so f*****g over this place I just ate my boyfriend's mashed potatoes and we left. If I had it my way, I wouldn't have paid for a thing here. They don't deserve our money and I HATE they got a cent from me. I'm livid. I hate this place W I L L N E V E R B E B A C K
