Best lunch spot in Dallas great prices and great service would recommend to anyone who works in downtown Dallas

This place is amazing! Not too far (walkable) from Klyde Warren Playground/Park and very good deals. We have tried most of them but keep coming back for the Tuesday special of a chili dog (specialty bun and good size beef hotdog) covered in chili, onions, mustard and cheese. Make it a meal with fries and a fountain drink and the whole meal is less than $6! Condiments and free refills onsite -and plenty of place to sit. So glad to have found this gem! read more

My friends told me this place was called Church burger. Divine & Cheese sandwich. Think about the menu naming possibilities here. Holey Guacamole Burger (who doesn't like avacado on their burger? Halleluau Burger ( teriyaki and pineapple anyone?) Hellfire hot (throw some habanero on) Communion Chicken (Basic Chix Sandwich) But no ..... Nope nope nope. All we got was burger or cheese burger. Sigh OK. It's a pretty respectable burger. Nothing special. I got a side of sweet potato fries. Asked for ranch when picking up my food and was told it's an upcharge. I had half a mind to pull out my card and tell them to upcharge the 65 cents to that but I did have change and I was hungry. Seriously if you're going to serve anything that is traditionally dipped with ranch can you please put a sign by your cashier or train them to inquire if customers would like any sauce or dip. I don't mind paying but I do hate the looks you invariably get when the staff seems to think you're trying to get something for free. So yeah since most of my review isn't talking about the food that should be your clue that it's fine, nothing special, that is if the 3 stars didn't already give it away. If you're in the neighborhood and craving a decently priced burger this is fine. I wouldn't plan on making any special trips for it. read more

I stumbled on this small cafe after a visit to the Dallas Museum of Art, and I'm glad we stopped in. It's typical diner food, and reasonably priced. We ordered a grilled chicken sandwich, cheeseburgers, and the fries. All were flavorful and fresh! The sweet potato fries had the perfect crunch. The service was good, the only issue was the cleanliness of the tables. Considering everyone is short handed it wasn't even that big of a deal, but there were several tables that needed to be cleaned up. read more

This is by far the furthest place I have come for lunch, but could not pass up a Jesus Burger. First off I'm probably the only dum-dum who would think a parking garage in downtown Dallas would be free on a weekday at noon, but when I was looking up directions on the Dallas Baptist website it said FREE PARKING. That would be affter 7pm on Wednesdays. Duh. It was still just $2 so no biggie. We arrived right at noon and the place was pretty full, and there were several people in line to order. We were able to find a table right away, though. MeganS was not kidding about the burger being greasy. It is. I ordered the sweet potato fries with my cheeseburger. I have to say it was a good cheap burger. The fries were great too. Since I live pretty close to this place I can see myself popping in for lunch on a Sunday. read more

Small cafe located inside the First Baptist Dallas Church, tasty food with reasonable prices! For breakfast they offer, breakfast tacos, and for lunch an array of burgers and sandwiches. I've had their caramel iced coffee, good, but I like my coffee super sweet so I added like 5 mini cups of creamer. Breakfast tacos are a great deal. $4, for two tacos (bacon and egg or sausage) Grilled cheese and you can pick sweet potato or regular fries. Before meeting with some First Dallas associates, our team ate a quick lunch here. They were all experienced guests here, but I greatly enjoyed my first time! All of the food is reasonably priced, the food is made quickly, and the hospitality is friendly and warm. The burger was cooked perfectly and the veggies were fresh! The sweet potato fries were excellent and great with a little salt and pepper. This is a casual restaurant where you walk in and order at the counter. The challenge is trying to read the menu posted behind the service counter. There are no descriptions of the food and the menu is extremely hard to read due to font size and background color. I went here years ago and remember the burger being decent and loved the Tuesday hot dog specials, which I think they still offer. I remembered this place as I was walking around trying to find another famous chicken franchise (no names mentioned) and thought I'd give it a try. To be fair, the service was fantastic, the restaurant clean and bright and my lunch was less than $9 for a sandwich, fries, and a soft drink. All of this sounds good except the grilled chicken sandwich that I ordered had no taste and there was no mention that the bun had sesame seeds on it (which I'm oddly allergic to). The chicken was dry and had the classic boot stomped on the flat top grill texture. I took the top bun off and tried to doctor up the chicken to add flavor but was unsuccessful. If it hadn't been for the crinkle cut fries, lunch would have been a complete bust. People around me were eating grilled cheese sandwiches, tuna salad sandwiches, and a few salads and they all seemed content. I guess I ordered poorly. But, there are so many similar options in downtown Dallas that I probably won't be compelled to return to the St. Paul Cafe and try anything else. This is mostly because I try to avoid all the things that I remember being good there and can't count on fries as my lunch as I did in high school. read more

Good food, fast food, excellent customer service, and the best part it's affordable. I've been there twice, during a rush and after one; both times were great experiences. Energetic and kind staff, quick preparation, good food. I've been hard pressed to find a place to eat in Dallas that provides a meal for $15.00 or less. Update: 1-12-11 - Looks like St. Paul's went and ruined a perfectly good thing. As others have commented, St. Paul's has changed their meat patties to something horrible. Visited here at the insistence of my colleagues for lunch today because the burgers are "sooo good". Well, we have different definitions of "good". "Okay" would be a more accurate adjective. I had the turkey burger which was decent but could have used a bit more seasoning. The sweet potato fries were good though and I appreciate that they were offered as an alternative to the standard fries. Just a heads up, this place attracts a pretty large lunchtime crowd so come early to avoid the wait (and to snag a seat!). And yes, this cafe is technically in the church but it's not like they have the grill set up in the pulpit or anything! Very nice lunch spot but I definitely would not make a special trip downtown just the eat here. read more

Don't mess with the Jesus! At work, this place is referred to as Jesus Burger. I wish they would officially change the name to that. Imagine the logo- Jesus could have a halo over his head, but it could be a burger halo! As others have pointed out, this menu is straight forward. Want a burger? Get a burger. It's a greasy mother, but get some napkins and lick your fingers. Or wipe your hands on the few extra dollars you have left over. Unlike many burger joints around town, this is cheap. The line does get long, but things move quickly here. Seating is a little cramped, but the crowd also seems to shuffle in and out quickly, so something will always open up. They've got TVs in several spots, so no matter where you sit, you can probably catch something (maybe the 700 Club or Fox News?). I was also disappointed when it seemed they changed their patties and fries and raised their prices - I have been going here for at least once a week for two years. Really love this place and would totally give it 5 stars if it weren't for a couple things. So, first things first, this place is part of the church so it will show up as that on your bank statement. Do not be alarmed! With such a simple menu and it being called a "cafe" you would think most of the food is pre-packaged (like most cafe's) or that it's mostly snack type foods. That is not the case here. Ugh, where do I even begin? I really am going to miss this place. First off, the staff is incredibly friendly. The short amount of time you're in there will be a pleasant experience. The line can get really long from 12-1, but it's totally worth the wait. The menu is small, but your options are great. They have something for everyone, but it's primarily sandwiches, burgers, and soups. The first time I went I had the roasted veggie sandwich and OH MY GOD, the bread. THE BREAD. It was such good sandwich bread. The vegetables were cooked perfectly and the whole thing was just great, albeit a bit messy. I got sweet potato fries with it which tasted great as well. They are not very crispy, so if you like crispy fries these are not the way to go. But I'm used to most sweet potato fries being a little mushier than usual, so it doesn't bother me. Next visit I had the grilled chicken sandwich/burger and once again, delicious! Chicken seasoned and cooked perfectly. It's just a good burger all around. I've also had the turkey burger, which I don't really remember much about, but I'm sure it was good. lol The best thing about all of this is that this is easily one of the most inexpensive meal options in Dallas near my office. If you work around here and haven't been sure if you want to try it out or not, a combo (meal, fries, drink) is only like $8! You can't get that anywhere else around here unless you order Jimmy Johns and get the bare minimum. And they don't skimp on the fries, it's a lot. The sandwiches are large. It's really a good deal, trust me. I'm looking at some of the reviews next to me and just saw that they have breakfast tacos and now I feel like my life is utterly incomplete. Where was wood on the menu? Being that everyone knows I love double cheeseburgers, several co-workers said I should go to St. Paul Cafe. Unfortunately, every time I went, they were always closed. They close right after lunch! When I finally had a chance to go and get the burger, I was not impressed. It had the size and the grease and, at the beginning, it had the flavor. But at some point towards the middle of the sandwich it began to taste like wood! Why? What is this "burger"? In the trash can it went. I did buy an outstanding cookie that day! The cookies are a good size for the price and they make them in house. More than once, I have walked all the way to that cafe to buy more than one of those melt-in-your-mouth sugar cookies. read more

Commonly referred to by regulars as "Church Burger", this used to be one of the best burgers in Downtown Dallas, and the whole city for that matter. The turkey club sandwich is really good. I got sweet potato fries and they were a bit burned, but they were ok. I also have gotten the salad trio. Every bit of it was super good. They have just expanded the space so it is much larger. All in all good food, fast service, not too pricey. read more

I got the double combo which came with 2 seasoned patties, 2 slices of cheese and lettuce, tomato, red onion, pickles and mayo/mustard along with crinkle cut fries. The bun was toasted and the fries were pretty good for frozen. The burger was enormous and had an awesome flavor. Definitely would give Jakes and Burger House a run for their money! read more

Had my first baptist burger today and it was yummy! A little overdone and crunchy around the edges but I understand they can't do medium rare. This place is just ok, for lunch under $10. Its a nice location and a nice facility, good strong free wifi signal. I have had the burger, the chicken sandwich and the breakfast tacos. Not impressed. The best thing is the sweet potato fries. I dont know how to say it, its just not tastey, its like stuff you buy at SAMs and throw on the grill, unseasoned. I have been eating the church burger for a few years now. This used to be a great place for an economical burger. Not anymore. Went today and the bottom bun of my burger was so dry it "broke." My friend's "grilled" chicken wasn't grilled. It was cooked on the griddle- no seasoning, no flavor. Would have been more appropriately called, "griddled rubber chicken." The 2 times I visited prior to today, they put mayo on my mustard-only burger. Meat has little flavor and the burger is an overall mess. read more
