It has been a few years since I ate here, but not as long as my original post. I was in the mood for juicy burger so I stopped here solo for lunch. The ambience is lacking the statue of Lenin that was at the Lover's Lane location; and these folks today don't snarl at the customer and insult them. It's all so staid. Actually, it reminds me of the sterility at In-and-Out. That said, the food remains excellent. My number 11 (Gourmet burger) was delicious and satisfying. Tons of drippings and juices were left on my tray. The last time I ate here it cost in the $6.50 range but today (April 2025) the price was $9.90, so it is more expensive. The onion rings were excellent. Crispy, not too much batter, real onions. The portion is fairly generous for $4.95. I added a small side ($3) so the whole meal came to $19 before tip, so it is not an inexpensive lunch, but I come here often so it was ok for a special treat. The only way to describe the food - it's like ordering from a little league concession stand. Go once and you'll see what I mean. Was it bad? No. Was it anything special? Absolutely not. I'm glad we went on Tuesday when the burgers were 1/2 price or I'd of rated even lower. There's not really any service to speak of. You order. You sit down. They call your number. You get your food. Been a loyal customer since the 70's . Harvey was a unique character to say the least. Since Jimmy bought the restaurant he has continued to provide quality food and a place that emphasizes Dallas history.( SMU too ) The walls are filled with pictures of the past rarely seen. The central feature is the glowing hot charcoal indoor grill. The meat is perfectly seared and tastes great. The French fries are crispy on the outside and tender inside. The combinations are varied and provide excellent choices. I've tried them all during the years and none disappoint. If you want a truly superior burger this is worth a visit. read more

So disappointing. I know it has a long history in the area. Burned down, then came back. I always wanted to go. Got the chance to go 6/8. Staff was very nice. It was the food. I got a chili, Cheese, onion burger and onion rings. The onion rings were over cooked, but edible. The burger so disappointing - little, meat was try, very little chili on it. This was to be a historical moment for me as I had not been to Goffs since 1966. I flew in from California to have a Number 1 and a Number 2. One has a relish and 2 had the hickory smoke sauce. I went online to see the menu and prices and was surprised that the internet prices were not updated to the store prices. The employee told me that they didn't update the prices online. Being in Texas,maybe that's not bait and switch but it seemed so. The burgers were ordered even though the prices were different. READ THIS....... It's been 2 years since I've been in Dallas. (Live in FL now.) The first place I go is Goff's - of course!!! Been eating here since I eat 3 years old. I got the #2 with cheese and crispy fries. Absolutely perfect!! By date had a chocolate shake - made from real Hershey chocolate syrup, 100% ice cream, and 100% whole milk. Perfectly blended and a smooth drink to coat your mouth and throat. Best ever! Well... to my surprise, Jimmy Francis showed up and could not have been more gracious. What an awesome owner!!!! As my family of three walked in, it appeared to be a "Mom & Pop" type place, or one might call it "a hole in the wall." It was neither welcoming nor offensive. We ordered two cheese burgers, two fries, chicken tenders and 3 small drinks. The food didn't have much flavor and instead of using sliced cheese on the burgers they used cold shredded cheese. It was a little off-putting. Our bill was higher than we like to pay normally. This was our first time to go and we were not impressed. I don't think we will return. read more

I went to Goffs today, wanted a hickory burger only, knew o didn't like their fries that much, but also wanted an apricot fried pie, those are still great. However, the burger meat on my burger was terrible, after eating it I wish I'd never even digested it. It was grainy or gritty can't figure it out, but it just was not good. I will not be going back there again. It's definitely not the same as it was in the past, it's been over a year since I've eaten there and it's changed since then. What happened Goffs, were you bought out or just cheapen-ing out. Get your meat right or you'll lose your business maybe not this week, but you'll lose business. Way past lunch time and a busy day in a new area to me. I drove by this place and thought, should be good it's by the college. Has a diner's feel until you go in. About 245pm on Friday. Place was empty with a lot of dirty tables. Another gal came in and could tell, not happy and started cleaning. the guy taking orders started at the TV the whole time. Another fellow stood in the back with his phone. I ordered and my cheeseburger came quickly. No thrills nor smiles in this place. Burger was ok, a little on the ' let down" side. Goff's, a Tradition since 1950, is back. I worked at a few of their locations during the 1970's and they were the best burger chain in Dallas. The food tastes the same and is delightful. This trip, it was for the Beefeater with cheese (2 ground sirloin beef patties grilled over charcoal, toasted sesame seed bun, lettuce, tomatoes, shredded cheese and 1000 island dressing), their famous french fries and a fried appricot pie. The food quality is fantastic! The seating area is open with small tables, some bench seating, some counters next to windows, some outdoor seating and a back room. The motto used to be Quality you can taste and that still holds true. It may be pricer than some, but worth it! read more

Feels like a hollow version of what it once was. Twenty dollars for a mediocre burger, fries, and a drink feels like a rip off. Much better burgers to be had elsewhere at a fraction of the price. Overall if you like restaurants with sticky floors you will love this place. read more

Low key Sunday afternoon spent around SMU campus and decided to have a burger at Goff's. It had been years since I used to visit the original location. The old location was just a unique spot with so many memories. I know we have tons of options in DFW for a good burger. I'm glad I decided to stop in. I missed you Goff's. I'll be back and this time I won't wait so long. This location over the last one has plenty of parking that's a huge plus. Employees- very nice and attentive Atmosphere- I like they still had old pics of Dallas rich history. Great job. Clean Food - burgers are still very good. I like watching that hot coal grill. There are too many good burger places in Dallas to waste your time or your money here. Their unique spin on the burger is that they pile shredded cheese on the sandwich and serve it unmelted... that's a difference I can do without. While our burgers were fine, but in no way great, the chicken tenders were most definitely of the frozen, food service variety, as were the fries and onion rings. With such a limited menu...burgers. Hot dogs, chicken tenders...it has to be well executed. The iced tea was top notch though! Lowkey one of the most fuego burgers in Dallas. I think Goff's and another burger spot around the corner (bot to be named but iykyk) are vying neck and neck for best burger in Dallas. I have been going to this place for over 30 years. First at it's location on Lover's Lane, then at it's location on Hillcrest, and now at its location on Mockingbird. I love their burgers, and I am very picky with burgers. I get the burgers with chili. These are quality burgers not fast food. This restaurant is a continuation of the original Goffs burgers owned I remember the original owner Harvey Goff, who could be entertainingly insulting, almost like a lower speed Dallas Don Rickles without Rickles redeeming features and warmth. He was always a hoot to encounter. Or maybe Dallas' version of the Seinfeld Soup Nazi. The staff is polite and friendly without a trace of the previous owner's humorous obnoxiousness, which is probably a good thing. I spent $9 on a burnt cheeseburger with umelted, shredded cheese that came straight from a Tom Thumb bag. I have never been so disappointed by a burger. I also purchased the onion rings, which came unsalted and gave me severe food poisoning that left me in pain for days to come. The pickles were sour-- sour as in spoiled. The mustard was mediocre at best, but there was far too much-- it was all I could taste. The only thing that I wouldn't change would be the buns, they were more than acceptable however they would be better grilled, and with better food in between them. If I could give this establishment half of a star, I would. The only reason you should go here is if you crave a stomach ache and the stench of a hospital ward. Gross. Most dry, bland burger I've had in a while. They use *shredded* cheese instead of sliced cheese, and the girl completely screwed up my order somehow even though I stated it quite clearly. Ordered 2 Pattie's with cheese, mayo and onions. Got a single patty with way too much lettuce and mayo. Do not recommend, I'd rather go to whataburger or any other burger place. Bleh. For the competitive price to other mid-high end burger places, I couldn't justify a higher rating. The cheese is was what nailed the coffin shut and is shredded cheddar, and not a slice where 1/2 ended falling out. I am unsure if the party was previously frozen. I ordered a cup of chili. The top of the chili was 100% grease. I tried to pour off as much as I could but it was so gross that I asked for another cup. Same thing. I cannot remember the last time I couldn't eat something because it was completely inedible. The cheese on top looked like plastic. My husband said his burger was gross too. This is not my first time at Goff's. I used to think it was a great place but not after today. If you want a burger, there are many other places to consider before this one. Goff's is not for everybody. But it is for those of us who have been eating Goff's burgers for over 30 years. I order a #2 with mayo, pickles, and cheese (in OKC that would be a Theta with Cheese) accompanied by extra crispy fries and a vanilla shake. I'm one of those people who prefer shredded cheese instead of melted sliced cheese on my burgers. That preference goes back to my days eating at The Boomerang in Norman, OK. In my opinion, Goff's fries are some of the best in Dallas if you order them extra crispy. Their hickory sauce is the closet thing I can find in Dallas that compares to Johnnie's Sauce in OKC. Every time I eat at Goff's it brings back memories. Their shredded cheese reminds me of The Boomerang during my college days. Their hickory sauce reminds me of Johnnie's Theta Burger in OKC. I also have to admit that I miss Harvey---probably because he never picked on me. Harvey was great entertainment as long as you weren't the object of his abuse. My husband and I were so excited to have a Goff burger after so many years. It was his hangout wi th his friends in high school. We were happy to find it was the same as he had remembered. I grew up in the 1940s & 50s near the original GOFF'S on Lover's Lane near the INWOOD THEATER, as a Dallas native. I had never eaten there until the Summer of 1959 when a H.S. pal took me there for a burger after our Summer school class downtown at CROZIER TECH. My pal's dad had bought him a brand new 1958 CHEVY BEL AIR RAG TOP for his 1959 H.S. GRADUATION from T.J. As I recall from 65 years ago the burgers and sides were good but not "great." I liked the grumpy old fart OWNER, HARVEY GEOFF and believe he was the main reason folks liked eating there. I hear he sold out a few ago to some guy named "JIMMY" and reopened on Mockingbird near SMU. "The PRINCE OF HAMBURGERS" DRIVE IN on Lemon Ave. was "the" place for burgers in the 50s but the very BEST burgers I ever had in Dallas were to be had at "CLUB SCHMITZ" at FIVE POINTS which is now defunct. It was an old TRUCK STOP off HARRY HINES near NW HIGHWAY. A run down SHACK that served the best "grease burgers," tap beer and fries you ever ate. Some kids liked KELLER'S drive-ins but I never liked their food. read more
