I hadn't been to Hunky's in many years, but my wife and I were nearby around lunchtime. The H in their name must stand for hamburgers... Great ones. Served on a brioche bun, their burgers are juicy and fresh, and, ... well, just about perfect. They are served with your choice of fries, tots, or onion rings. Don't sleep on the onion rings! Dipped in a beer batter, these things are killer good. My wife got the chicken sandwich with tots. The chicken was a tiny bit on the dry side ... breast meat does that. Still tasty though. The tots were nothing specifically but good. With street parking available, it's worth the visit. One note to be aware of. Hunky's really leans into Pride. Just sayin'... We were looking for a new burger joint and this one came as highly recommended. They have a lot of options, but in general are still pretty basic. The theming is an old 50's style diner. And everything came out to us in butcher paper. First you order up at the front, and then they come and bring it to your table once its done - this is according to the number you have at your table. You can tell they take pride in customer service which I can appreciate. I ordered the chipotle double burger with fries. The fries were just ok, I saw you could've got tots but wanted to see what the fries were about. I'll just say I should've got the tots. The burger was a thick patty and lacked seasoning. I felt it was cooked well done and it was a tad bit chewy for me. Didn't really taste the sauce so I asked for some BBQ which helped the burger a little bit. 3/5 for the burger it was still good, but not great. We rarely venture into Dallas but really had a hunger for a good burger. The reviews were good here and we got lucky that it was raining...so traffic and customers were much lighter. This is a great older style burger cafe. The staff was awesome and super friendly. There's only about 15-20 tables so I can imagine it gets packed in a weekend night. They even have TV's inside to keep you company. We ordered the fried mushrooms because they looked so good on Yelp. They were even better in person. If these aren't homemade than I've been fooled. They were AWESOME! Lots of crunch and great batter that was too thick. My double swish marathon burger and chili cheese fries was spectacular. So much flavor in the hamburger patties and the bun wasn't too thick. The chili/cheese fries were so good too. Then I stole a couple of my wife's onion rings. Great batter that perfect and huge pieces of onion. Some of the best I've had in a long time. If we get back to this part of Dallas I will definitely come back here. read more

This is my go-to spot for turkey burgers (at least for now). I've been here a few times and have always had a great experience with both the food quality and customer service. They can sauté just about anything you like--jalapeños, mushrooms, onions, you name it--add Swiss cheese (my favorite) over a juicy turkey patty, and I'm happy every time. They also offer soft drinks and pre-mixed drinks like Jack Daniels Honey & Lemonade. I first went to Hunky's back in 1993 and after 32 years, I've never stopped coming here. When I want a good diner-style burger with tater tots or fries that are made just right, this is where I come. There is nothing on the menu that I would not recommend. The burgers are made to order and are hot and fresh. The fries are crispy, also made to order. The tater tots with chili and cheese are to die for, and I have to tell you, for a burger joint, this place has some of the best frozen margaritas around...not too sweet, not too tart, just right. A large margarita for $10 is the best deal you will find anywhere around here and they are delicious and exactly what I would look for in a good frozen margarita.
