I hadn't been to Hunky's in many years, but my wife and I were nearby around lunchtime. The H in their name must stand for hamburgers... Great ones. Served on a brioche bun, their burgers are juicy and fresh, and, ... well, just about perfect. They are served with your choice of fries, tots, or onion rings. Don't sleep on the onion rings! Dipped in a beer batter, these things are killer good. My wife got the chicken sandwich with tots. The chicken was a tiny bit on the dry side ... breast meat does that. Still tasty though. The tots were nothing specifically but good. With street parking available, it's worth the visit. One note to be aware of. Hunky's really leans into Pride. Just sayin'... Sweet potato fries?!? They tasted like cardboard. Could not finish them! The veggies on the burger were not fresh! The patties very thin, was not the size of the bun, had no real flavor! While I've dined here a few times over the last 10 years, the transition to the new management has been a bit choppy! Unfortunately, the cashiers that that take your orders are often responsible for taking phone orders. This increases the likelihood of mistakes in for all orders over the phone and in person: which was our experience. Our orders included fries and tater tots. The good part is that it was corrected when I brought it to the server's attention. The more concerning issue was the "raw" turkey burger!!! (BTW, I ordered a single and got a double) Yes, I took pictures and reported it to the attendant. "No," I didn't ask for a replacement or refund! The guy at the register who's handling money etc picked them up by hand after cutting which was disgusting. He cut one the size of a SLITHER at best. Nostalgia. While I can understand that people love a diner theme that teleports you back in time, I truly needed more from Hunky's. From an aesthetics standpoint, they are on point with the leather seats, diner style kitchen/bar area, and decor, but the buck stops there. When I think of nostalgic food, it may not always be the healthiest, but this was just greasy to be greasy. We ordered a chicken sandwich, onion rings, and a side salad. The chicken sandwich was bland and would've benefited greatly from some fresh/crispy vegetables as opposed to the practically wilted lettuce that added no texture. The onion rings were soggy & tasted like they were cooked in the same oil as fish fry leading me to assume they hadn't changed the oil in a while. And the side salad was reminiscent of a school cafeteria salad. All in all, if you just want to go for the atmosphere, it's great! But if you want a meal that doesn't resemble school lunch food, you may want to go elsewhere read more

Old school burger spot with a classic diner atmosphere and very welcoming staff! I really enjoyed the spicy fried pickle chips, which had a great fry and salty flavor, but they weren't spicy at all. The fries had a good texture too- light but still somewhat crispy. The burgers however were just okay, really good buns but nothing too special about the patties. Heard this was a Dallas staple so wanted to check it out. The inside was very nice, giving an old school vibe. I went on a Sunday and it was pretty packed. You can tell they take pride in customer service which I can appreciate. I ordered the chipotle double burger with fries. The fries were just ok, I saw you could've got tots but wanted to see what the fries were about. I'll just say I should've got the tots. The burger was a thick patty and lacked seasoning. I felt it was cooked well done and it was a tad bit chewy for me. Didn't really taste the sauce so I asked for some BBQ which helped the burger a little bit. 3/5 for the burger it was still good, but not great. Pretty cool experience, I drive past it pretty often so wanted to check it out. Probably one and done for me though. But always check em out. read more

Sorry, the burger didn't survive long enough to make a photo appearance! I would have preferred a bit more seasoning, but it disappeared so quickly anyway. This is my go-to spot for turkey burgers (at least for now). I've been here a few times and have always had a great experience with both the food quality and customer service. They can sauté just about anything you like--jalapeños, mushrooms, onions, you name it--add Swiss cheese (my favorite) over a juicy turkey patty, and I'm happy every time. They also offer soft drinks and pre-mixed drinks like Jack Daniels Honey & Lemonade. The service is excellent, the dining area is clean, the management is respectful, and this place is definitely on my list of good burger spots in Dallas. read more

We rarely venture into Dallas but really had a hunger for a good burger. The reviews were good here and we got lucky that it was raining...so traffic and customers were much lighter. This is a great older style burger cafe. The staff was awesome and super friendly. There's only about 15-20 tables so I can imagine it gets packed in a weekend night. They even have TV's inside to keep you company. We ordered the fried mushrooms because they looked so good on Yelp. They were even better in person. If these aren't homemade than I've been fooled. They were AWESOME! Lots of crunch and great batter that was too thick. My double swish marathon burger and chili cheese fries was spectacular. So much flavor in the hamburger patties and the bun wasn't too thick. The chili/cheese fries were so good too. Then I stole a couple of my wife's onion rings. I first went to Hunky's back in 1993 and after 32 years, I've never stopped coming here. When I want a good diner-style burger with tater tots or fries that are made just right, this is where I come. There is nothing on the menu that I would not recommend. The burgers are made to order and are hot and fresh. The fries are crispy, also made to order. The tater tots with chili and cheese are to die for, and I have to tell you, for a burger joint, this place has some of the best frozen margaritas around...not too sweet, not too tart, just right. A large margarita for $10 is the best deal you will find anywhere around here and they are delicious and exactly what I would look for in a good frozen margarita.
