I rarely leave reviews , in fact, this may be my first one, but this experience was so negative that I feel compelled to share it. I ordered two sandwiches through the DoorDash app for pickup. The app clearly stated that the sandwiches came with chips and potato salad, which is why I chose that option instead of ordering a different special. When I arrived at the restaurant, I still had to wait in line before reaching the cashier. When I finally got to the counter, she handed me my sandwiches and then told me that I had ordered chips and potato salad but had not paid for them. I calmly explained that the app showed those items as included with the sandwich. Instead of resolving the situation professionally, she told me she needed to call the owner. She then had me step aside while she helped three other customers, leaving me waiting awkwardly off to the side. When the owner finally called her back, she spoke to him loudly (almost argumentatively) about me being there and "claiming" the sandwiches came with chips and potato salad. It was embarrassing because other customers could clearly hear what was happening. Ultimately, I was told the owner said the sandwiches did not come with those sides. At that point, I just took my sandwiches and left. The entire situation felt uncomfortable and unnecessary. If there was a mix-up with the app, that isn't the customer's fault. Good customer service would have been to honor what was displayed in the app and clarify the issue internally afterward. Instead, I left feeling frustrated and embarrassed. Honestly a really amazing sandwich. It feels like an authentic ran down New York joint and I absolutely love it. I don't know how I missed this place every time I've driven by it but I will certainly be back. I had heard multiple people rave about New York Sub and frequently responded with "can a sandwich really be THAT good?" And IT IS! I have tried The Italian, Every Stop On The New York Subway, and Turkey Pastrami Reuben. Each sandwich had distinct flavors and notably fresh ingredients. They also have a bbq company connected to them that always has amazing aromas coming from the meat smoker and they sell some of their items in the restaurant. I will highlight, this is a "no BS" type environment where the staff will make sure your order is taken and everything is correct, but don't expect a chatty bunch (not rude, but very to the point). Wow! These subs are so good. Only get the Whole sandwich off you haven't eaten for a couple days lol. That thing is massive! Hubby got the Texas sub and devoured it and I got the half plain turkey and it's the least plain turkey sub I've ever had! Meaning it's mouth watering and so worth the wait. Decided to head over for lunch today after seeing rave reviews. I was about 12 minutes away but didn't have too much time so decided to call ahead and place my order. When I arrived there wasn't much parking but luckily I was in and out so I just pulled into the neighboring 711. The place has a very unpretentious feel. Very welcoming to all. I am glad I ordered ahead because my lunch hour seemed to be going by pretty fast. Staff was friendly. I had ordered the Italian Beef with peppers and a mango flavored tea by a company called Joe Tea. This came out to 21$ which is a little pricy compared to the other Italian Beefs I've had recently. The sandwich I had was very big in size and definitely had amazing flavor. From the first bite you know this place cares about the quality of their food. It was phenomenal. The heat from the peppers was a little delayed. The bread was very nice and held together well after I poured some au jus over it. Very nice place with a great tasting Italian Beef sandwich. I would give this place 3.5/5 but rounded up. I ordered the pizza sub and the roast beef sub. The roast beef sub was good, but the beef wasn't rare, its was more med well. But I'm glad I found a place with the style of roast beef that I like. I just hope if I try it again, it's the right temperature. Also, the sub roll was strangely sweet. Not terrible but just not the kind of sub roll I'm used to. The pizza sub was good, exactly what it sounds like. My review may be a little biased because my work pay for the catering here so I spent no money myself. The meal that they got came with sandwich, cookies, and chips . I got the roast beef with pretzel bun and chocolate chip cookie. The cookie and sub really good. Normally I don't order subs but I could see my self coming back here on my own dime. read more

UPDATED REVIEW 8-17-24 I had been a fan of this place, drove a long way hoping to enjoy the pastrami sub yesterday, but the meat simply didn't taste good and was fatty. It was one of those surprises you don't like -- especially when you believe you finally found a sandwich with the best pastrami in the area. Pastrami is difficult to prepare. If a restaurant cuts back on the quality of the meat and the steps to prepare it once on site, it loses alot of taste. I don't want to judge New York Sub based on one new experience -- especially given the tasty sandwiches in previous years. It was as though ownership changed hands. Whether or not that's the case, I hope the owner will see the more critical reviews as an opportunity to learn how to improve, at least in my case, starting with the pastrami. read more

This place is so great, from the food to the ppl. Tucked away on a side street across from SMU, if you don't know about it, you could miss it. The owners have so much passion for bringing the best quality food at a price that can compete. It does give off like a sidewalk store in a big city and the stuff for kids is great. New York Sub makes wonderful sandwiches. My favorite is their "Reuben" - big mouthfuls of messy deliciousness of hot pastrami, sauerkraut, pickles, and, Russian dressing inside a toasted white bun! While I know they are located in Highland Park, I grew up three blocks from them, so I get it, but I went in today, ordered a half sub, she thought I asked for a whole sub, $26. I was in between meetings and wanted to find a quick lunch. Searched sandwiches near me and this place came up. I'm SO HAPPY I tried it. I ordered the turkey Reuben and WOW......the sandwich was so good! Easily one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. Comes with Turkey Pastrami, Sauerkraut, Homemade Pickles, Italian Oregano and Russian dressing. Everything about the flavors were perfect together. The sauerkraut could be a bit more tangy, but the pickles made up for that. I was going to order it without pickles, but I'm so glad I didn't. They were absolutely delicious. The Sprinkle of Oregano worked so well to add a perfect pop of flavor. The bread......the BREAADDD! It was a perfect texture of toasted pillowy goodness. The half size was more than enough. They are not stingy AT ALL with their delicious meat. I had leftovers that I happily ate the next day. I honestly cannot wait to get back and try another sandwich. Great service and food! We were on that side of town in search of a good sandwich and we were not disappointed. They are still social distancing so when we pulled up the line looked to be out the door but that was only because the set up was for you to order at the door and not physically come in to building. Wifey had the Italian Sandwich and she was very pleased with the freshness of the ingredients on the sandwich and the portion. I had the regular sized Ruben and it was great. The Pastrami was the show stopper and I could just have eaten the meat by itself. Looking forward to going back and trying other sandwiches. read more

This is a keeper. Sean and I stopped by to see the mural and fell in love with the sandwiches, charm, and owners. The outsides: The mural is pretty awesome and so is the story behind it. The story is that the original mural was painted (early 70s) in exchange for subs. The current mural includes the owners Andrew, Edi, their dogs, and some employees. The innards: beautiful place..clean and trendy. The bathroom....spectacularly clean. There are remnants of the previous buildings written on the walls (ghost signs). Its a great place to relax and hang out. There are t.vs to check out the game. The food: I had a half turkey and cheese sub on wheat. The bread was ah mazing! Andrew made my sub and he walked me through my choices (great guy) and I ended up with the best little sub. They have a plethora of sandwich sides..I was not interested...just get in my belly sub! Sean ordered a half pepperoni sub on white. The pepperoni was 1000 times better than what comes on pizza (he said it). It was melted in the oven and get this it was so good Sean offered me a bite! I think he needed someone to attest to how delicious this sandwich was! I don't even like pizza sandwiches...and I am getting one of those next time! The toppings were fresh and plentiful. I've been following New York Sub on Facebook for well over a year now. I just never seem to get the chance to go. I finally was able to free up some time and head to New York Sub for my lunch break. It did not disappoint! Meat was fresh, the bread was simple and just right. If you want a fresh sub, this is the place. HOWEVER...parking is a pain! Very few spaces in front. Tow signs everywhere so you have to luck out and get something in front or if your lucky, off street parking. So this definitely isn't somewhere to go if you don't have much time to spare. read more
