The ambiance is very simple, but clean, that never bothers me. The catfish is perfectly fried (no grease at the bottom of the to-go tray) the fries are homemade and cooked to perfection. EXCELLENT/home made slaw and hushpuppies (which I am not fond of and usually don't eat) I had enough HP when I lived in New Orleans. If you want good catfish (whole which I usually get or filets) for about $16 with all the trimmings, please give them a try, you won't be sorry. Ordered some takeout. Service was quick and very thorough. Family Catfish - The catfish was excellent. Large fillet pieces and a very nice crispy cornmeal coating. The fish was flaky and the flavor was spot on. With the family portion you get a mountain of fries, hush puppies and coleslaw. Coleslaw was very good, tartar sauce was outstanding. Happened upon this place when we came to this part of time for a coffee shop, so glad we did. It was delicious. The people were very nice very nice and we had some good talks and laughs with them. The place itself had a good down to earth feeling and the food was sooo good. I always order Po' Boys and this was the best one I've gotten. We got the catfish and the shrimp po' boy, nothing was over cooked (very easy to do with shrimp), and the batter was perfectly seasoned and not bland at all. Presentation was also surprisingly cute. I ordered the 2 meat plate with beans and potato salad and threw it all up 45 minutes later. Right from the start, the pungent smell is overwhelming battered with a film that stays in your nose. The bathrooms were even worse! How this place has passed health inspections blows my mind. Dirty tables, dirty floors, dirty windows, vagrants present, one of the few good things I can say is that I did not see any insects or rodents present. They have a weird ticket system where they will charge you a dollar if you lose your ticket between ordering and picking up your food. In that sense, the service could be better. But this is easily forgivable. The cole slaw and baked potato are kind of a waste of time. None of the sides are really appealing. But I don't go to a restaurant for sides. For years I have enjoyed this location. However my family and I recently made a purchase last week after new management took over and bought catfish dinners. They must be using something new on the fish because my Daughter had an allergic reaction and so did I. Unfortunately I landed in Urgent care and had to be transferred to Emergency and kept over night. I was still sick when they let me go with lots of steroids, benadryl, and three other meds. I started with itching, It lead to hives then swelling from head to toe. I was afraid I had covid. I made it to Urgentcare in time for a epi pen injection to keep my airways open. I have been coming to Joe's Seafood for many years. I always order the whole fry catfish meal. You cannot go wrong with this plate. I only wish they did have spicy seasoning. But the way it is is always fresh and delicious with their delicious french fries and of course the coleslaw is good as well. I didn't like the catfish nuggets too much. My husband loves the Gumbel from this place as well. You should at least try the whole fried catfish when you come here. read more

The service was awful. The food even worse. None of the employees smiled or made eye contact when I walked in. The employees preparing the food also weren't wearing plastic gloves or hair bonnets. The man cooking the food was sweating heavily and he was constantly wiping away sweat with his bare hands and using his shirt to wipe the sweat away. He wiped his sweaty forehead with his hand and then went and picked up the bread to use for the poboy I had ordered with the same hand. At that point I was disgusted and asked if he could use gloves. Another woman started screaming 'we wash our hands!!' and what good does washing your hands do when you are wiping away sweat with the same hand you are using to handle food? The food was terrible. It had all been already fried and simply dropped in oil to reheat. All of the food had a leathery texture. It was also seasoned poorly. The bar-b-que sandwich tasted the same. It was dry. Not moist. There was little, if any, bar-b-Que sauce on the meat. The catfish poboy came with two hard pieces of bread. Nothing else on it. But a catfish filet and old, hard bread. No condiments whatsoever. No lettuce or pickes or tomatoes. Nothing. Just a plain sandwich. Not dressed up. I won't return. This is a terrible restaurant. read more

Within an hour of the order being placed, they came through with food for 65 people. We enjoyed tilapia, catfish, fries, shrimp and hushpuppies. It was all delicious and fresh! Joe's is an old friend I've been patronizing for 20 years. I moved away several years ago, but check in there when I'm in town. It was good to see most of the same crew that has been there for years and years-a very good sign. I got the three meat combination this time, with shrimp, catfish and oysters. I love the corn meal breading that they use, although it was slightly greasy. Still, the food tasted great. The shrimp have a nice zing to them. Not a spicy zing or a whimsical zing yet still a zing of character that imparts a unique group of zingy flavors. The shrimp were slightly chewy and zingy, which works for me. The oysters were a mistake. There wasn't much left of them after the fryin' stopped. The catfish was outstanding-moist, plump and flavorful. The fries were pretty doggone good, too. Good tartar sauce, something that this seafood lover doesn't take for granted because it isn't good more often than it is, was found here and made a nice companion to the fried seafood. All the hot sauce and tartar sauce wasn't helpful. The shrimp, not pleasing either. I'm a potato lover so the fries were ok. I exchanged the sweet tea for a sprite. I had 65 adults and 9 children to feed at our son's wedding rehearsal dinner and the caterer I had hired months prior let me down. He thought it was in 2015! Yes, that actually occurred! I really didn't wont to give a 1 star rating! It needs a negative 5 star rate. One of the worst places I've ever been! The health department needs to visit this place and shut it down. The ceiling tiles are nasty with water stains and ready to fall. The ceiling fans are covered in dust and lent and over the tables where you sit to eat. There's eating area near the restrooms and that whole area stinks of mold and mildew. You can smell it as soon as you walk in the establishment. My spouse had an upset stomach before we finished our meal as I did too but then I'm known to have a cast iron stomach. Also as for how expensive it is ,money should be used to fix up the place!!
