In Mesquite for work, and a group of us went to Soulman's for lunch. We all ordered different menu items and everyone was very happy with their food. I had a giant baked potato, loaded. It was perfectly baked, the inside was nice and fluffy while the outside was crisp. I ordered it with cheese, sour cream and butter, and there was a very generous amount of shredded cheese piled on top. I added a few pieces of onions from the topping bar. I also tried the breaded okra, which was excellent. The Texas toast wasn't really toasted, it was more like warm bread. For dessert I had a piece of buttermilk pie, and it was wonderful. Rich and creamy and just a little tangy, and the crust was flakey. I would consider returning just for dessert. Service was fast and friendly, and all the empty tables were clean, the employees were hurrying to keep the dining area clean and tables available. It isn't often that a group of 12 coworkers all agree that a restaurant is excellent but everyone was very happy with Soulman's. It

The hotlinks and potato salad were good and that's it the food from here left a lot to be desired. When I visited here I got the brisket some macaroni some potato salad hotlinks and a slice of bread. The macaroni was very bland and not good very generic tasting the potato salad was actually pretty flavorful and the hot links were delicious. Those two were the only good things on the plate. The brisket was extremely dry and had no seasoning whatsoever it was not at all well cooked. Brisket should basically melt in your mouth. Portions were pretty big but honestly I didn't really enjoy this place I don't feel like they take their time and cook their food correctly with love. Yes again the portions were a large size but honestly you will pay like 20 bucks to get a nice size portion and it isn't really worth it if the food isn't really that good I don't think I will be returning to this location and I wouldn't recommend it to any of my friends. I've had some good barbeque before but I wouldn't really consider this a contender.

I was very skeptical about eating there because of all the Negative reviews.my sister and uncle and myself enjoyed the food especially the big stuffed potato .and staff was very friendly . Don't get discouraged , Amazing food, it's Highly recommended. I will say one bad thing... The minute u walk in your clothes will stink, when u get home wash your clothes immediately( it's a heavy smoked smell) (so wear your " not so nice clothes") Oh and Free ice Cream after Dinner( and ice cream is really good) Enjoy your Dinner!

3 meat plate with ribs, sliced brisket, and sausage. Soulman's BBQ in Garland,Tx on Broadway

0 rating. Everytime I go to this location the Mexican lady gives me less than what I paid for. I get the same plate 3 meats. I will small half sliced slice brisket, small portion of sausage and one rib. Well today just to make sure I wasn't being unfair in my observation I went the Garland location on Broadway. This what i received for a 3 meat plate. Then she is always selectively rude with me like she thinks she knows me. I don't think people who work at BBQ places and don't like and respect food where they work should be allowed to work there.

Oh.my.goodness. Tons of food for 2. Portion size are generous. After all we are in Texas! Soul bowl is delicious tons of meat , lots of fillings on top a light bed of Frito corn chip. You can add bananas pepper , onions , pickled jalapeño , fresh salsa etc however you like it. The meat on the ribs was so tender, falling off the bone. The hot links was not that hot and was equally good. The coleslaw so fresh and soooo good. It was crunch and not soggy and not too salty and done just perfectly. The piece of pecan pie was very good. Can't come to Texas without getting a piece of pecan pie. It would be like going to Maine and not have a piece of blueberry pie:) Location was roomy, and service was great! My fav is the soul bowl, coleslaw and pecan pie. You will not be disappointed .

Food was really good. The fried okra was on point. Probably the best fried okra I've had recently.

The side w very versatile, we tried the rice that had good flavor, along with the beans, but the star for us was the creamed corn, this was amazing, the Mac and cheese good creamy. We opted for a pair of 3 meat platters at $16 per plate--lean brisket, ribs and rib tips, links, and the mandatory sides of baked beans and potato salad. The sides were sides, but Meshack's is definitely about the meat. The links had good snap and the ribs were well prepared, separating cleanly at the bite. Both had a flavor profile pleasantly tilted to the peppery side (just the way we like it). The brisket had nice bark and pink ring, but the central Texas rub didn't really kick in until we had them for dinner some 8 hours later. We were happy with the food here, and look forward to another visit. It was fun talking 'cue with Donna, who took good care of us during our visit-- our 99th BBQ stop in Texas, and the 399th nationwide.

Ordered Turkey, Jalapeño Cheddar Sausage and Mac and Cheese on the 2 meat combo plate. First off, that was $27 which I thought was rather high but with the hype I thought it might be worth it. The turkey was tender and juicy and rather flavorful, except for the end piece of turkey breast (I assume) with the skin side which was extremely tough. The jalapeño cheddar sausage was okay, but it didn't really retain either the jalapeño, cheddar, or the smoky taste which I thought was disappointing. The Mac and Cheese had bacon bits on it which were nice and crispy but the Mac and Cheese wasn't very rich or complex flavor wise, which I found slightly underwhelming. The sauce was super runny and while it had flavor, I never think having to put sauce on stuff to give it flavor is the answer. All that being said, for $27 I wasn't going to leave anything on the plate. The service I thought was rather hands off and I'm surprised nobody came and checked on us although that may be just how things are. The ambiance was cool with old license plates and pictures along with some cool western themed things up on the walls to make it seem warm and homey. All in all, I was left with the feeling that there should've been more and I was kinda disappointed after all the hype I've seen and all the gravitas that the name Pecan Lodge carries with it. I'd say probably a 6.5-7/10 so that lands me at 3 stars because it really didn't feel 4 star worthy.
