Native Texan visiting from AZ. Family had a terrible experience at some other bbq place last night, so I read the reviews on this place and decided to try it. My brisket loaded baked potato was 10/10. Brisket was great and the potato was cooked to perfection, and the biggest russet potato I have ever seen. Some reviews said they mac and cheese was runny. It looked that way at first but when it cooled off a bit it was nice and creamy, and very tasty. Small hole in the wall place in a strip mall which are usually the best ones. Dipped in here a pair of times, its ok. Not bad ok, not great ok, but ok. It appears as more of a Mexican style BBQ, which I'm sure plays well with that BBQ audience. Myself, I'm a Central Texas BBQ guy. Lockhart, Luling, Austin, and other surrounding areas. Elgin sausage etc... That said, they are very nice folks, it's clean and recently redone. It's basic but it's functional and the sauce is pretty good as well. If you want some BBQ I would def come here before any of the chains, the Dickey's etc... Visiting my sisters for the Eclipse, and they suggested Lico's. We ordered a variety and enjoyed it all. I'm SO glad I got the turkey! So moist and much better than any Thanksgiving turkey. The ribs were also something we'll get next time. The green beans were tasty, if just a bit spicy. I don't recommend the corn on the cob, but there are plenty of other sides to try. Somebody said to skip the fried items, but we quite enjoyed the fries and okra. Looking forward to returning next time we're in town! read more

2.5 stars This seems to be a place that is family owned and operated, and I'm sure they are very proud of their restaurant and product. Looks like they have a good following, and loyal customers. They seem like nice people. As far as my review, it really depends on where your bar is set for barbecue. My bar is set pretty high, so I'll try to be reasonable. it just may be the best barbecue location in Rowlett. I am aware of another spot down the road across the lake, but it looks to be more of a home cooking/barbecue place. I haven't been there yet either. I was very clear when I asked for my brisket on what I wanted. Very specifically asked for lean brisket, cut from the end of the flat anyone who cuts meat for a living knows exactly what I'm saying. Yet, that's not what I got. It was Liane, but not , the same. The smoke ring was very minimal. The ribs I thought were pretty great. The sausage was very middle of the road. Mac & cheese was very runny and had very little flavor. The beans were actually really good as well. You have to buy drinks by the bottle, which I'm not a fan of since there are no refill options. The place was super quiet, mainly because I was the only one there until another lady walked in. If you're in Rowlett, you want barbecue, I would probably recommend this over Dickies. They have established, set hours of operation. However, I tried to have lunch here on Tuesday, but they were closed. Possibly because it was the day after Labor Day and they wanted another day off. I highly recommend trying out Lico's. The ribs were perfectly cooked and so juicy. Just enough bite. The sauce had a slightly sweet flavor, but it was so good. Went in and got the lunch prime brisket. Brisket was seasoned very well to the point where you could eat with or without sauce. When he carved it up I got some lean and some moist cut. The moist cut is my favorite cut anyway and it was good juicy and full of flavor. Got the Mac and cheese and fries. Both were good. The fries were fresh and the Mac and cheese had good flavor, creamy, and a little bit smoky. Both the guy and girl I talked to were very kind and were plenty helpful when I told them it was my first time in. Price is competitive with pretty much any other BBQ place you will eat at around the area. Really reminds me of a small family owned places I used to stop in out in East Texas. read more

Good place to eat, and I'll be back. Visited at 12:30 on a Monday afternoon. Ordered the brisket lunch special. Brisket, 2 sides and Texas toast, $13.95. Brisket is tender, but as others have said lacks a little flavor. Needs more salt and pepper in the rub. Pieces of almost all bark had almost no s&p flavor. Served sliced very thin, but it was a good quantity and good value. I'll ask them to slice thicker next time. I ordered charro beans and Mac and cheese. Mac and cheese was good, beans had an excellent flavor. Sopping up the bean juice with the Texas toast was perfect. Very friendly folks and a good deal. This is a smokehouse, your selections will not need sauce, but if you must, Lico's offers BBQ sauce, too. I tried the St. Louis Ribs, and Lico did a good job with the smoke, while keeping the moisture. Plump little ribs! Same with pulled pork, plenty of juice, plent of flavor. He did a good job with turkey breast, not any of it dry. Green beans had some bite, not soggy. Charro beans, a bit of zing, but no afterburner. These are Po'boy beans! I wanted to get an array of things to ensure they didn't just specialize in one thing, but couldn't delver on the rest. We tried three of the sandwiches: pulled pork, sliced brisket, and chopped brisket! All were created superbly equal and delish! I went ahead and got my hubby some sides, and there were not complaints at all. We were kinda fighting over the left over sandwich the next day. Finally a bbq place in the area! And a good one too! I got a pork sandwich, it was chopped chunky and it was juicy. My daughter had sausage and she loved it. The okra is made to order so you will always have fresh, perfectly crispy okra. The Mac n cheese was really creamy cheesy, so good. And the coleslaw was satisfying. I only tried the regular bbq sauce and I liked it as well. The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the sandwich buns. Although toasted, the top was very bready and not very fluffy, too firm. Casual and well priced, not very busy but would expect that to change. Talked the owner and said they opened in Sept22 and he's been in the BBQ business for over 20 years. Super nice man.
