I cannot get over how good this food is. Anyone who says different wouldn't know good BBQ if slapped em in the face. The sampler plate is the way to go but DO NOT GET ME STARTED on the brisket sandwich. That thing is huge, fresh and flavorful. You cannot go wrong with anything from this place. Try it all! Don't leave without the banana pudding either. It's a mom and pop vibe and I'm here for it. It's cozy and straight to the point. You'll park in an old gas station parking lot and where I'm from, that's how you know you've struck a gold mine. We will be weekly patrons of this establishment. This is a slow business bbq. They operate like the other bbq chains where they have a food line with food ready to go. Problem is that theirs tend to sit for a long time. Food wasn't terrible but was forgettable/boring for the potato salad and brisket plus hot links. The Mac and cheese was the worst part. So bland, no seasoning or interesting cheese mixes, it definitely took the hardest hit from the time it sat. My positive review is their bbq sauce. I was very surprised by how tangy it was. If you like sauces that taste pretty seasoned and tangy than you'll like this one. Not very sweet and decently thick compared to some bbq sauce at other places. Honestly if I was the owner I'd pivot from the restaurant business (or at the very least get a better location) and become a sauce distributor. Just sell the bbq sauce, they'd be more successful imo. VERY DISAPPOINTING!!! I have heard they are good. Finally had a chance to try them out. First, I added 3 different times to please send "lots of sauce on the side" on my Uber Eats order. I ordered a sampler plate and a chopped beef sandwich, I understand if you don't want to give out extra sauce for free, but to get 1 little bitty portion cup of sauce for a big plate and a sandwich is just wrong. Turns out the mistake wasn't that bad because the sauce SUCKS. Just very slightly flavored tomato sauce. The sampler plate was pretty much all the meats they had, and it did not taste good. NO SMOKE RING ON MEATS. I don't think they used any smoke to cook this, very amateurish. The only reason I gave 2 stars is because the amount of meat was good, just didn't taste good. It wasn't bad, but no smoke flavor could be found. I DO NOT RECOMMEND this place and won't be giving them another try because it wasn't even close. read more

The baked potato was buy one get one free and that is exactly how they made them. They looked nothing like the photos and the meat tasted old and the sauce tasted like Ragu. When you see the place, it doesn't look like much. It is an old gas station converted to a down home restaurant. The food is the thing. The smoked ham was amazing. The green beans had chunks of ham and were very flavorful. The Mac n Cheese was creamy. The 'tater salad was good. It could have used just a touch more mustard to make it a bit more zesty. Maybe it was an off night or something but the food was so nasty. I ordered the two meat plate with hot links and sliced brisket my sides were brisket gumbo and Mac n cheese. My husband ordered the rib plate and his sides were smoked cabbage and brisket gumbo. My oh my oh my we tried the cabbage first so hard and dry with no seasoning, the hot links were like hot dogs limp and flaccid, the sliced brisket was ok no real complaints there, ribs were also ok there was a lot of the meat that was dry but the meat that wasn't was good, Mac n cheese had no salt but a whole bunch of pepper and the noodles were mushy (my nieces 3 and 4 liked them), the brisket gumbo was alright, if you doctor them up I can see them being good. Such a disappointment though and I am seriously floored at how bad and expensive the food was. Wasted money, we ate the brisket, what we could eat of the ribs and my nieces ate the Mac n cheese and we threw the rest out. We will stick to Hutchins, they are so far and Shorty's is right down the street but from here on out we'll just make the drive! read more

It's an old looking shack that looked like it was built by two drunk moonshiners which is a good thing. Shorty's does a pretty good job with meat, although the brisket can be a little dry if you don't add sauce to it. They are extremely generous with portions both for the plate and the sides. It was pretty delicious. Like lick your plate delicious. The brisket was tender and the chicken was not at all dry! I asked for a sample of the smoked bologna having never had it. They have me a very generous sample. It was pretty good. Very unique flavor for a yankee like me. The collared greens were good but a tad on the vinergary side... if you were wondering. I really wanted to love this place, but I just couldn't. The slice brisket was dry and very very lean. We weren't a fan of the bbq sauce either. It was runny and more like a tangy with a hint of sweetness in it. The hot links was probably the best thing we got from there. There was a new girl that was being trained and in my opinion seemed very rude to the older ladies. The two older ladies were really sweet though. I am pretty picky about my bbq because I like to be able to enjoy the flavor of the meat rather than spices or sauce. This place had really good bbq though. They put the sauce on the side for me and the meat tasted really good. The meat was so soft it was falling right off the bone, so the lady serving made sure I got enough by adding a little extra.
