I'm super late with this review but this is by far some of the best bbq I've had in DFW. As with most reviewers, it takes a little bit to track him down. Most Yelpers will post on here where he's at for the day or just give him a call. First, you're greeting by the smoke which is my first rule when it comes to bbq. If I can't smell it, I ain't eating it. Second, are all the nice people waiting in line. Folks were like kids at Christmas; they couldn't wait to dig in. Then there's the Pitmaster and you can tell right away about his passion. Not just for his craft but the people he's serving. Don takes his time with each person and you're having a genuine conversation. It's just so much more than just a transaction. I ended getting, what I'm going to call the, Pitmaster's Plate. I had $50 and told Don that give me whatever I could get for it. I got some of everything: sausage, lean brisket, spareribs, and my two favorites fatty brisket and the chicken (he only serves dark meat). The meat was not overly seasoned with just a hit of spice. I'm guessing salt, pepper, granulated garlic, granulated onion, cayenne and maybe a little mustard powder. It had a strong smokey flavor so I'm guessing either mesquite or oak. I didn't get any sauce so I was bummed about that and some of the lean brisket was a little dry but it's definitely worth all the money. I got so much food and it was a pleasure just being there. I ended up making some pimento grilled just with the brisket and it was . There are no sides, no bread, just pit style bbq. If you can, definitely make your way there. read more

I agree with Katy B. and Steve T. today (Sat,June 11,2016). I was driving to go to a drive through and saw the smoker with a bunch of people standing around. I stopped and waiting in line with 3 other people in front of me. Dynamite Donald gave me a sample (like he does to all his customers) and it was so moist. I got a half pound of brisket for $10.00 and he even gave me a quarter more. I got his rib special for $12 and it was great. I had $25 and asked if I could get something else for $3 and he threw in a quarter chicken thigh and some brisket. You can not beat the taste. My wife saw me staring at her rib and said sorry, she is not sharing. Dynamite Donald makes his own sauce too. He is parked across the street from Subway, corner of Custer and Parker in Plano this weekend. He told me if you come by tomorrow (Sunday), he will have boudin too along with his brisket, ribs, chicken and sausage. If I had to say something on the minus side, I tasted a bit more garlic salt to my taste. It was fine for my wife. Don't hesitate to check out where Dynamite Donald is at. Worth the drive. read more

This place is serious bbq. The bbq here isn't like the others where they are trying to stick to certain styles. Dynamite does it his was and it's seriously flavorful. It's also cheaper per pound here too! I had the brisket, very flavorful and fatty, though not the most tender. The ribs were great as well, tender, Smokey, and also some charcoal flavor from grill which is great change of pace from just smoked ribs everyone does. Put kroger on your GPS but avoid that garbage. Look for a red tent that is smoking. If you cannot find it, follow your nose like toucan sam. I watched a woman almost get hit by a car TWICE to get to that sweet smell. Bring cash and throw it at the man in the cowboy hat. Get moist brisket. He will provide you a sample while you are waiting in line. His sample is huge. Get your food, find the nearest want-to-be millionaires' car to plop those to go boxes down and eat until you are sweating not only from the texas heat, but from the meat. I have to add another 5 star review. Dynamite Donald has it all. Charisma to spare, a way with meat, and a portable smoker. Combine all those and you've got some dynamite parking lot BBQ! He says its $16/pound for brisket but he knows his stuff. I got to pick my cuts and he weighed it at over a pound and a quarter, then threw in some of the best chicken I've ever had. My kids are calling it "meat candy" and $20 has us full with leftovers for days. One kid said Dickey's should fire everyone and just hire this guy. Thanks, Donald! read more

A guy, a truck, and a smoker on a trailer in the parking lot of Jacobs liquor store, and it's incredible. He's been there for around six months, maybe more - Thursday, Friday, Saturday only. After noticing his loyal following I finally hit it up. It's really good - the brisket, the sausage, have not had the ribs, but others rave about it. He also smokes boudin, and it's the only boudin I've ever liked. Noticing some pecan next to the smoker, I asked him about the wood he uses. He also uses black walnut - asked him where he gets black walnut, he says he walks for it - welcome to northeast Texas Customer service is prime, act interested and you're likely to fill up on samples. He's at the Kroger center parking lot at Preston & Campbell. There is no missing the awesome aroma from the smoker. I had to run get some cash but it's definitely worth it! What do you do when you pull into your neighborhood grocery store parking lot, only to see a 6'5 guy wearing jean overalls & a straw hat, in front of a huge smoker ? You go up and ask him what's for dinner! I had the great pleasure of meeting Donald today, and I'm so glad I took the chance to walk over and see what he was up to. Donald with Dynamite bbq was the highlight of my dreary day, and most of us could probably use a reason to smile during this crazy time in history. Well, Don gave me several reasons to smile....he was welcoming, like we were old friends who have not seen one another for awhile, and before I could even ask what he had for sale, he was slicing off pieces of brisket and handing out plates. His chicken was AMAZING and his prices are very reasonable. He is very generous with his portions, and for $10 ( $7 plus $3 tip) we received a plate overflowing with chicken and brisket. Don prefers to have orders called in advance, and is rarely out with his smoker and trailer, so I feel so lucky to have been at the right place at the right time, to experience his food. Dynamite bbq would be an excellent choice for your next tailgate party, picnic, or family reunion. I'm not sure if he offers ribs or sides, but it never hurts to ask! Last year, he was always at the gas Station by Dublin and fm 554 but not sure where he is now. Brisket is slow cooker to perfect and just about everything is fantastic. I've seen Donald set up many times at the corner of Parker and Custer, and today it was perfect timing. Don was talking with another customer when I came up and he greeted me and handed me a chunk of brisket. It was perfectly cooked and the smoke flavor was great. I ordered a 1/2 lb of brisket and 2 hot links. Don LOADED me up with brisket- it was closer to a pound than a half pound. So good!!! Donnie is a true character! A joy to talk to! He is so friendly and a master with his smoker. I bought some boudin for my husband and he said it was the best he ever had! The brisket was amazing and he threw in a chicken leg, glad he did because it too was awesome and will get that next time too. He was out of ribs, must be as good as the rest, I got to Jacobs around 4:30 and he was sold out! I will for sure go back! I'm not sure if the food is any good because it is too difficult to find him and for him to have food on hand. First time, we were unable to locate him (he isn't necessarily where Yelp says he is). Second time, we called and he told us he would be in Murphy the next day. He wasn't there when he said he would be. We went over to Parker and Custer. He was there (not in Murphy like he told us) and had just run out of food. He seemed to feel bad about that. He promised us he would be at Parker and Custer at a certain time the next day. We went at that time. He wasn't there. We went shopping nearby and checked back 30 minutes later. He still wasn't there. Very disappointed. His brisket is outstanding -- good smoke ring and flavorful. He also had homemade sausage which is both very unusual and also very tasty.
