I hadn't heard of Bold BBQ but decided to give it a try for takeout after reading the great reviews, and it absolutely did not disappoint! We ordered the two-meat plate, a BBQ sandwich, kids sliders, and several sides. The brisket and pulled pork were incredibly tender and literally melted in your mouth. Every side was delicious, but the fried okra and smoky beans were definite standouts. We also ordered a small peach cobbler for dessert, and it was rich, flavorful, and the perfect sweet ending to the meal. The portions were generous, everything traveled well for takeout, and the quality was outstanding. Visited from Sachse for the first time and greatly enjoyed our experience. The interior is quaint and highly decorated, even some fun I Spy activities for kids to spot certain things around the restaurant! My husband enjoyed the turkey and sausage, especially loving the unique bbq sauce. The fried okra was great, the Mac n cheese was just ok. I enjoyed the brisket egg rolls which were one of the most delicious things I've ever had! We also enjoyed the apple pie bites. Beautiful smoke ring and smoky flavor. Pull apart excellent. I ordered the lean but usually prefer less lean cut. My choice. When I visit the Herman Marshall bar across the street or the Landon Winery, I usually order delivery from here. Their delivery service is always fast and reliable. Haven't been inside yet to dine in though. The food is always great every time. I have tried the sammiches and the quesadillas, as well as the apple cobbler bites for dessert. Love this cute little Wylie based BBQ place! As members of Landon we typically pop in here to grab some grub to pair with our wine and it never disappoints. The fiancé who's from North Carolina loves the pulled pork, it's almost always the Big Bold Spud with chicken for me. The fried okra with jalapeño ranch - a must! Went down to downtown Wylie to check out some cute little local shops. We stopped by Bold BBQ Pit. We were drawn by the "rated best bbq in Wylie". For an appetizer, we ordered 2 stuffed jalapeños. The star of the show! It wasn't healthy, but it wa delicious! My fiancé and I ordered the meat platter to share. It is enough for the two of us. The Mac and cheese was absolutely delicious! Some solid bbq here. Is it the best I've had in Texas? Nope, but it is quite good and I'd definitely return. The stuffed jalapeños are delicious, and my favorite side is definitely the max & cheese. All of the meat was equally good in my opinion, though the wings were probably my favorite if I had to pick. We came around dinner time on a weekday and the place was less than half full, so it was easy and painless to order and find a table, and the food came out quickly. Service was friendly and helpful. The baked potato is huge and I order it with chopped brisket. It's comes topped with meat, cheese, beans, chives, butter, sour cream. It's a hearty meal especially on a cold winter day. Arrived Thursday, 12:10 pm, for lunch. Place was empty so I was able to walk up and order. Small dining room but has a lot of seats - cool Texas vibe. The lunch special - brisket sandwich - with an egg roll came to $20. The sandwich was so good. I forgot to take a picture cause I just dove in to eat it. We have been here several times. My wife likes the Brisket Sandwich. My favorite item is the Brisket Egg Rolls with Habernero Dipping Sauce (my wife likes it too). The sauce is spicy but not too hot and exploding with flavor both hot and sweet, perfectly balanced. Our favorite side dish is the Fried Okra!!! This place is awesome and I'm mad that we didn't try it sooner! My husband and I shared a three meat plate. We got pulled pork, brisket and jalapeño sausage. All was excellent! Mac & cheese was good, but I absolutely loved the blue cheese slaw (especially on top of my pulled pork!). Both of the sides were pretty good portions too. We also got the fried pickles with ranch and they were amazing and really cheap for how many you get. We couldn't even finish them. I only took a photo of the pickles, and forgot to take photos of everything else because we just dove right in. To top it off, everyone was really friendly and that is important to me. Menu was created by someone with ADD Horrible layout so confusing I just gave up and said sliced beef sandwich and a side. Apparently, I'm not the only one while I was sitting there eating I saw two people come in and just stare at the menu with a blank look on their face. Amazing how you can mess up a menu based on brisket turkey and sausage by adding my account of junk that has nothing to do with the Texas barbecue restaurant. My wife, my son, and I visited Bold BBQ a few days ago, for the very first time. The restaurant is located on Ballard St. in "Olde" Downtown Wylie, adjacent to the Ballard Street Cafe. At Bold BBQ one goes through a traditional-style ordering line, gives their order over, takes a number, then takes a seat! Numbers are placed in stands atop tables and as such, one hopes that the very next time a wait staff member emerges from the kitchen area with a tray, that it will be his or her number that is being sought out by said member. In our case, I am sad to report, this took FOREVER! Honestly, I think we were pushing 30 minutes! Suffice to say we were gnawing at one another's fingers by the time our food arrived. Anyhoo, of the available meat fare, we collectively ordered Sliced (Moist) Brisket, Sliced Turkey, Sliced Ham, Ribs (of which type there is only pork spare ribs), Jalapeño Smoked Sausage, and Regular Smoked Sausage. As sides, we collectively ordered Side Salads, Green Beans and Cheesy Potatoes. To drink: Iced Tea and H2O. When our food arrived it was noticeably fresh, the meats and hot sides were hot and the salads were nicely chilled and like I said, fresh! The tea was just about right and as a personal fan of and although not ordered, I did notice the drink fountain had only drinks made with pure cane sugar (versus high fructose corn syrup). I always like seeing that! I mean, if you're gonna drink an unhealthy soda pop, you might as well go with the healthiest of choices. ;) As for the food preparation and flavors... the Brisket was tasty, but not as moist as I would have liked and, it was cut about a half an inch thick (a Clue!) - I presumed in some sort of an effort to keep it from drying out too quickly. I enjoyed it well enough, however, my wife thought it was just meh. She also thought her Sliced Turkey and Sliced Ham were also just meh. I did not taste those. * * My Pork Spare Ribs were cooked perfectly and I would return for to eat a whole mess of them thangs!! They were delicious! And, I am pretty picky when it comes to any BBQ, but especially Pork Ribs! I think the Jalapeño Sausage edged out the Regular Smoked Sausage; both in taste and texture, with the Jalapeño being a tad denser, which I prefer. My son reported the Cheesy Potatoes as something he would definitely order again and our salads, well... they were salads. The tomatoes were somewhat crunchy though. Almost as though they may have been somewhat unripened, but they were reddish and not greenish, so we ate 'em and didn't complain too much! :) The Green Beans ended up being the "Star" of the meal! For it was the Green Beans we suspected that caused our meal to come out so delayed. We know this because: 1) There were Green Beans that were cooked and done, a little darker in color. Annnd, 2) There were Green Beans that were mostly cooked and not so done, and a bit brighter in color... kind of like what one might see on the package of "frozen" Green Beans. Now, I really don't mind frozen Green Beans but if you're gonna serve 'em, they really should be done! And, if you've already taken an order and there aren't enough to fill the order, then politely offer an alternative, but it's sooo not a good business practice to hold up an entire meal for such a period as to allow the cook to get the Green Beans "almost done." Lastly, Texas BBQ 'should' be served in butcher paper or tin trays, or both! Never, EVER on plastic trays. That's almost sacrilegious, but it ain't quite! The bottom line on Bold BBQ is that it's a cute place in a really cute location, with pretty okay BBQ, at pretty okay prices, but it does NOT in any way compete with the likes of the more well known Texas BBQ joints. I would eat here again (I would not order Green Beans!), but my wife would not do either... so says she. If you decide to give Bold BBQ a chance, just go in with the thought of helping to grow a local business that hopefully will improve over time, don't count it as an end-all to Texas BBQ, and focus on the good! I don't usually do this but I feel like people need to be warned. Bold BBQ in Wylie TX is horrible. 2 (two) wings and fries was $15. And our fried pickles were soggy and disgusting. I called because I thought there was some mistake. Nope! General Manager (I think Daniel?) could have cared less! Plus I had to pay $1 for a CARRYOUT fee and a $1.75 Convenience fee. Our family recently made a visit to this restaurant in the downtown area of Wylie. It has a very rustic atmosphere and funny signs on the walls here and there. There is a fairly extensive menu which includes desserts, such as apple pie bites. We did not have the dessert, however. We ordered a family plate which included brisket, sausage, macaroni and cheese and green beans. It also came with four rolls. It was very delicious and there was enough for another meal. Even after that the sauce was so delicious that we marinated a chicken with it and cooked that so that the delicious sauce would not go to waste. My husband and I live in Tulsa and we always enjoy checking out a non-chain place when we are out of town. His aunt took us to this restaurant and we really enjoyed it. We stopped in tonight for the first time. They had live music and what a cute place. We love BBQ and are always up to try a new place. Food: ok. The Brisket had a good crust but was under seasoned. The sliced brisket for the sandwich was 4" thick..who came eat that in a sandwich? Burnt Ends were the highlight and the Ribs were cold,no crust and sadly not great. It was grey and spongy. Something must have gone wrong. Service: Outstanding at the checkout. The girl running the register was fantastic, friendly and helpful. When we sat down and when she dropped off our food asked if we wanted pickles and jalapeños we said yes, but never got them. It's Ok though.
