The chicken patties used are top tier- full juicy filets, no hard edges or flattened out stringy pieces. It was cooked and seasoned to perfection as I chose "hot" and it was not too much. Just had my first visit to Lava Hot Chicken and it did not disappoint Such a great lunch spot--portion sizes are solid for the price, and everything came out fresh and flavorful. Jason ordered the Lava #1 (2 mild strips) and I got the Lava #2 (2 hot chicken sliders). The "hot" was more of a medium kick, while the mild still had great flavor without much heat--so definitely approachable for anyone easing into spice. I also helped myself get some mac & cheese since it was a cold and rainy day, but to be honest I probably would've gotten some mac & cheese anyways. Delicious! First time in here and ordered the slider( slaw on the side) and tender combo with fries and a drink. The portion size for the price is amazing and two people could probably eat off of one combo. The special dipping sauce is definitely better than canes sauce and pairs well with the chicken which was nice and juicy and seasoned crinkle cut fries. I ordered the medium spice and it does have some kick so if you prefer less spice order the spice x option. Take-out, or delivery boxes are sturdy, and sealed with a big sticker. A buddy gave me his coupon, I had never tried Lava Hot Chicken before. So, to get their new Hot Chicken Tacos.... You MUST purchase a #1, #2, or #3 Meal. I got the Sliders meal to go with the 5 tacos deal. Got home, everything stayed warm in these boxes, and the spiciness was not as hot as the hype! Good ingredients, good bite & chew on the white chicken meat tenders. Buns were soft, fries were a bit hotter than the chicken! Hot Chicken Tacos were decent, the flour tortilla had a nice texture, did not fall apart, easy to eat! I did not try the Maple Waffle fries, sounds delicious! Desserts are cold parfaits; crumbled Oreos & creme, or creamy Mocha BEERS in bottle or can, sold for dine-in only, must have ID. Sodas, juices, waters, and Ice slush drinks. The facility was spotless! Two very clean restrooms, locking, ADA complaint. Simple small tables for 4. Outdoor umbrella-covered small tables. The urban spray paint "art" theme is not seen around here, is very colorful. I give this place a 13/30. Service was good and the place looks nice. My main issue is the food. Unfortunately it just wasn't good for a hot chicken place. I stumbled upon Lava one weekend in early Aug 2025. It's nicely tucked in a corner in a Dalrock shopping strip. Location: I opine being in that corner may be challenging especially if the food and service aren't good, it needs to be GREAT. Aesthetically- it's ok looks new and clean, the outdoor patio area is well done especially if csr traffic increases. Service: the man at the register when I visited lacks personality and hospitality, he wasn't as warm and inviting as I'd imagine given the business is new. Could just be his personality, Id recommend you adding someone more personable, friendly and engaging at the register and assigned this guy to the office or kitchen detail. Now I don't know if this was an employee or the owner regardless assign them to the office. Food: the chicken was cooked while I waited so it was hot and tasty I did find it alittle salty, I wasn't crazy about the batter on the chicken. I wanted to support a local business, but I feel like I was robbed of my money tonight. I ordered the 20 chicken tenders, and what I got was a bunch of pieces of chicken no bigger than my thumb. I placed six chicken "tenders" on a medium sized paper plate with a penny in the middle so that you could reference just how tiny they are. To start off with I would probably rate this place 3.5 stars, but that's not an option. We tried the sliders, the chicken and waffle, the tenders, wet lemon pepper wings, fries and mac and cheese. Every was okay, nothing was amazing (although the wet lemon pepper wings were hands down the best thing we had). It definitely wasn't bad and I'm sure the fact that almost everything we got was with no spice (the chicken and waffle we got mild) played a role, but even then I think the chicken was just too dry for me. I think I would eat here again, since it is so close and I like to support local, if I can. I just wouldn't say this is amazing. Also the staff was nice so that's always enough for me to be more forgiving of other imperfections. read more

The fries needed a few in the air fryer at home to crisp them up but the slider was legit good. I got the fire one I believe and even tho the price was a bit up there the size of the meat was very good. The sauce, pickles, bun and slaw were good. Probably coulda put a little more slaw on there but I'm not going to think of it as a big deal. Definitely check it out. The base coating was zippy, so buyer beware heh.
