I went specifically for their signature dish (the one they proudly call themselves the "Home of the Chicken Fried Brisket"), and it delivered exactly what everyone raves about. They take a thick, oak-smoked brisket slice--already juicy, tender, and loaded with smoky flavor and perfect bark--then coat it in a craft-beer batter and fry it up. The crust comes out shatter-crisp and golden, never greasy or soggy, while the brisket inside stays beefy and moist. That peppery burnt-end gravy poured over the top is rich, savory, and ties everything together beautifully with a scoop of skin-on mashed potatoes on the side. It's pure Texas comfort food genius--smoky BBQ meets Southern fried steak in the best possible way. I'd order it again in a heartbeat (it's a Tuesday special or weekend brunch treat, so plan accordingly). The rest of the BBQ holds up just as strong. Their regular brisket (flat and point) is consistently juicy, tender, and smoky with that killer bark everyone mentions. Sides and other meats are solid too--no weak links. The house beers are fantastic and pair perfectly with the rich, smoky food (the rustic, woodsy vibe in the historic downtown Garland spot makes it even better for lingering over a pint). Service is friendly and the whole place just feels welcoming. If you're in Garland or nearby and love bold Texas BBQ with a creative twist, Intrinsic is a must. The chicken-fried brisket alone is worth the trip--don't sleep on it! Highly recommend for anyone who wants great smoked meats, great beer, and something uniquely delicious

We ordered a half pound of fatty brisket and a side of Mac and cheese. The brisket was well seasoned and perfectly cooked. It had a nice smoke but it was pretty mild for my taste. I liked the bbq sauce in the packets. I took some home for some bbq beans. The Mac and cheese was pretty good. It was thick and well seasoned. Really good for a cafeteria style serving. I like this place. I could see it in my rotation for bbq locally.

Perfect amount of seasoning, amazingly CHEESY....Green onion sprinkled ontop so if you don't like that, they are happy to leave it off. 2nd visit. I got the ribs again (thats how good they are!), collards, mac and chz (for the husband this time lol) and the kool-aid. The collards are perfectly seasoned with a rich dark broth. Nothing needed to be added, salt, pepper, nothing! My cousin had the brisket. It had a beautiful smoke ring and char. Seasoned perfectly. You can see the seasoning. Perfect mix of fat and lean ratio. She had the same side as I did. Now, to the show stopper.... The KOOL-AID! It was hands down the BEST kool-aid Ive ever tasted. I never liked kool-aid because it would be so watery. Not this! It was dark red, with a fruit punch flavor and just the right amount of sugar! Do not leave that building without a kool-aid I'll be back to try their other menu items soon!

We opted for a pair of 3 meat platters at $16 per plate--lean brisket, ribs and rib tips, links, and the mandatory sides of baked beans and potato salad. The sides were sides, but Meshack's is definitely about the meat. The links had good snap and the ribs were well prepared, separating cleanly at the bite. Both had a flavor profile pleasantly tilted to the peppery side (just the way we like it). The brisket had nice bark and pink ring, but the central Texas rub didn't really kick in until we had them for dinner some 8 hours later. We were happy with the food here, and look forward to another visit. It was fun talking 'cue with Donna, who took good care of us during our visit-- our 99th BBQ stop in Texas, and the 399th nationwide.

Walking in just read how to order, you tell them the sides you want, then move on the the meat, the team is very friendly, there are bottled drinks, but get the soft drinks as you can go back for refills. The side w very versatile, we tried the rice that had good flavor, along with the beans, but the star for us was the creamed corn, this was amazing, the Mac and cheese good creamy. The pork ribs were peppery and good smoke taste, the jalapeño sausage was great, that brisket was special burnt ends and the fatty part of the brisket was delicious. Amazing ambience, and you can get your own To go boxes. All around amazing experience.

Ordered Turkey, Jalapeño Cheddar Sausage and Mac and Cheese on the 2 meat combo plate. First off, that was $27 which I thought was rather high but with the hype I thought it might be worth it. The turkey was tender and juicy and rather flavorful, except for the end piece of turkey breast (I assume) with the skin side which was extremely tough. The jalapeño cheddar sausage was okay, but it didn't really retain either the jalapeño, cheddar, or the smoky taste which I thought was disappointing. The Mac and Cheese had bacon bits on it which were nice and crispy but the Mac and Cheese wasn't very rich or complex flavor wise, which I found slightly underwhelming. The sauce was super runny and while it had flavor, I never think having to put sauce on stuff to give it flavor is the answer. All that being said, for $27 I wasn't going to leave anything on the plate. The service I thought was rather hands off and I'm surprised nobody came and checked on us although that may be just how things are. The ambiance was cool with old license plates and pictures along with some cool western themed things up on the walls to make it seem warm and homey. All in all, I was left with the feeling that there should've been more and I was kinda disappointed after all the hype I've seen and all the gravitas that the name Pecan Lodge carries with it. I'd say probably a 6.5-7/10 so that lands me at 3 stars because it really didn't feel 4 star worthy.
