Chicken-fried brisket is the star of the show here, and it's every bit as legendary as the hype…read moresuggests. I went specifically for their signature dish (the one they proudly call themselves the "Home of the Chicken Fried Brisket"), and it delivered exactly what everyone raves about. They take a thick, oak-smoked brisket slice--already juicy, tender, and loaded with smoky flavor and perfect bark--then coat it in a craft-beer batter and fry it up. The crust comes out shatter-crisp and golden, never greasy or soggy, while the brisket inside stays beefy and moist. That peppery burnt-end gravy poured over the top is rich, savory, and ties everything together beautifully with a scoop of skin-on mashed potatoes on the side. It's pure Texas comfort food genius--smoky BBQ meets Southern fried steak in the best possible way. I'd order it again in a heartbeat (it's a Tuesday special or weekend brunch treat, so plan accordingly). The rest of the BBQ holds up just as strong. Their regular brisket (flat and point) is consistently juicy, tender, and smoky with that killer bark everyone mentions. Sides and other meats are solid too--no weak links. The house beers are fantastic and pair perfectly with the rich, smoky food (the rustic, woodsy vibe in the historic downtown Garland spot makes it even better for lingering over a pint). Service is friendly and the whole place just feels welcoming. If you're in Garland or nearby and love bold Texas BBQ with a creative twist, Intrinsic is a must. The chicken-fried brisket alone is worth the trip--don't sleep on it! Highly recommend for anyone who wants great smoked meats, great beer, and something uniquely delicious

It's a smaller place in downtown Garland and there are some tables to sit and eat at and we went around 7:30pm on a Friday night and it wasn't crowded at all. We were greeted as we walked in and since it was our first time I had some questions and they were very helpful. It's a little different than most BBQ places as you can often get a plate with one, two, or three meats and sides. Here, you order à la carte with the meats and pay the per pound price and the sides come in a small and large size priced accordingly. We ordered a pound of moist brisket, 1/2lb of ribs, a large Mac and cheese and small beans for 3 people. Everything was really delicious with the brisket having a nice smoke flavor and very tender and the ribs falling off the bone with some nice seasoning and very flavorful. For the sides the Mac and cheese was the winner as it was creamy and very well seasoned. The beans were good but for me it had some kind of tang, possibly tomato base with shreds of meat in the beans. When we left we were also thanked for coming in which a lot of businesses overlook. The food is outstanding and the service friendly. We will definitely be going back. If you are in the garland area definitely check this place out.

We wanted to just drive around the lake (which as it turns out isn't actually possible, we will wait until it is less hot to try the bike trail). This place is highly rated and I believe I remember something about the DLT (duck, lettuce and tomato) sandwich on DDD a loooong time ago. Today was the day, it is located in a strip mall and there is only about 4 counter seats, so we were prepared to eat in the car, but the place was empty. We ordered from the pretty grumpy/personality devoid cashier and waited for our order. He didn't greet us, he mumbled back one word answers to our questions, he didn't even really tell us when our food was up, it was placed on the counter and I had to ask if it was ours... (come on man!, you are the front of house, PLEASE make an effort!) We ordered 2 sandwich combo plates, mine was the DLT with beans and hubbs got the brisket sammy with chili-mac. Both for me were pretty underwhelming. Not much smoke flavor and just okay in terms of delicious-ness. I did enjoy the cherry sauce on the DLT, I did not enjoy the raw onions on the brisket. I would love to say I wanna go back to try other things, but I just won't - it just wasn't good enough. Note I rarely give 3 stars, so this is a low score for me. The chili-mac had about 1/4" of water on the bottom of it. I did like the beans, but the "combo" side is minuscule, only slightly larger than those containers that you get your sauce in from Raising Cane's. Also - can we just PLEASE upgrade to perforated paper towels on the counter, I bet you think you are saving money with the cheap un-perforated ones, but really - I wasted so much more of the roll trying to get them to rip off. Some reviews mentioned the delicious desserts (the cherry crumble) - but they were out of everything except the banana pudding, so we passed and went to the highly rated bakery in the same strip mall a few stores down.

Figure out what you want before you walk in because the menu is only available through a QR code, and it is awful. You scroll. Then you scroll some more. Then somehow you're still scrolling. It feels less like ordering dinner and more like reading the terms and conditions for a mortgage. The two of us ordered a large pepperoni pizza, which turned out to be ambitious. We ate leftovers for days. Next time I'd definitely order the smaller size. My only real complaint about the pizza itself was the pepperoni. There was just TOO MUCH of it. Sure, I could have asked for "light pepperoni", but then I'd be paying full price for less topping, and that just goes against my personal philosophy. I'd love to see a "light pepperoni" option priced accordingly. ALSO not it is the good and greasy cupping pepperoni, kinda spicy. The pizza was also a little unevenly prepared. About half had a thicker crust while the other half was noticeably thinner. I definitely preferred the thinner side. Service was perfectly fine, the bathrooms were clean and nice, and the pizza was good overall. Just be prepared for the QR code marathon before you get to enjoy it.
