Sushi bar, seared steak, assorted sashimi, Brussels sprouts

We have eaten at Shimogamo in Chandler for years and are so happy we have Gilbert as an option too. The fish quality is some of the best I've had outside of Japan. Every piece is pristine and fresh- I love that they rotate the menu. Whether you're ordering omakase or going à la carte, you're in good hands. The chefs are personable if you like sitting at the sushi bar. The restaurant is clean and bright although a little small. I don't understand the negative reviews.

Wow! If you love sushi this is the place! Everything is fresh and put together with excellent ingredients and skill of talented chef. Plenty of seating inside and out. We sat at the bar which is a front row seat for all the food magic.

Went back for Omakase. It was good, with a great verity. I wouldn't go back and try it again. I was surprised to be underwhelmed. However the service was great and attentive. Very helpful and very informative.

Q: What is a cat's favorite item at a Japanese restaurant? A: Tempurrrrrrra! I made reservations to pop in on a Friday night and woo! It was a scorcher! It was definitely warm inside but as long as the fish is cold, I'm fine with a little heat. As a fan of their Chandler location, I knew I had to eventually pop into their Gilbert location. Truly a gorgeous space. The bar was lovely, the staff was knowledgeable and polite, and the windows made the space bright and inviting (their Chandler location definitely being darker). It's the kind of place you go to when you want to support local and dine well. Cocktails, garlic dashi fries ($12), fried shishito peppers ($12), ceviche spoons ($18), hamachi lime crudo ($22), two orders of bluefin crudo ($36), a hamachi lime roll ($22), and a caramel miso cheesecake ($9) were ordered and consumed with vigor. Never a bad bite from Shimogamo. Definitely take a look at their daily specials menu and ask your server for recommendations.

Came here for a celebration with a group of girls with original intentions of an omakase but we didn't know we had to do an advanced reservation so it was a bummer. We instead explored the menu and had a variety of items. Small Plates: -Fried Shishito peppers - unavailable so we got -Fried brussel sprouts - with sweet soy sauce and garlic which was delicious. -Agedashi dofu - a soulful bowl of deep fried breaded tofu potato starch in a savory dashi broth Nigiri/sashimi: -seared salmon - a staple to always count on -unagi roll Signature rolls: -double salmon roll- anything salmon is on my list -yuzu tuna roll- the yuzu citrus gives an added dimension. -oxtail roll- this was a bit odd and seemed like it was out of place for a roll. Japanese Bluefin: -O-toro- fattiest tuna belly - Akami- lean bluefin I always love brussel sprouts made right and cannot go wrong with toro. A few requested surprise mocktails were made one with a mint, another with a Japanese plum and another with a passionfruit syrup. Along with some sake. Service started off rocky when our sushi selections wasn't picked up earlier in the start of dinner so we were hungry. It got a little better as the waiter did his best later on. Waters were filled. I would like to try omakase next time.

This rating is more 3.5 stars. The restaurant is clean and modern but it is smaller than the Chandler location. There's plenty of parking which is always a plus. My girls and I were supposed to come here for Omakase for their birthdays but unfortunately, I didn't know we were supposed to let them know in advance so that was a bummer. We ended up ordering a bunch of different appetizers, sashimi, nigiri, and rolls. I thought it was okay. The presentation is beautiful but the taste wasn't special. If anything, it was a bit bland. Service could have been better. He was friendly but wasn't warm. I probably wouldn't come back here again unless it's someone's birthday.

I've been wanting to try this place for so long. The inside was nice, it's a bit small but would like to sit in the outdoor bar area sometime. We got the fried brussel sprouts to start which were yummy. Then we split the yuzu tuna roll, spicy tuna roll, and the Negi Hama roll. The tuna rolls were good but really salty which wasn't my favorite. The negi hama roll was great. I'll definitely go back but try some other items on the menu!

The hubby and I came here during a lunch date. Ordering was a bit different for us. Everything was more like single order which worked out because we got to try a little bit of everything from hand rolls, soup, etc. Staff were great and accommodating. I'd like to come back for their dinner menu.

This place has been on my list for a while, so I finally gave it a shot. From the outside, it looks like a big restaurant, but inside it's actually pretty cozy, mostly bar seating with just a few tables. The vibe is simple and gives off that traditional Japanese feel. I tried two hand rolls and the assorted sushi entrée. Between the two, I liked the hand rolls more. They kind of look like mini tacos, fun to eat (even if a little messy), and packed with flavor. If you're into bold flavors and lots of toppings, go for the hand rolls. The assorted sushi was more basic. The entree was simple, clean, and nicely presented. It was decent, but nothing that really stood out. Honestly, for the price, I've had better sushi elsewhere with better seafood and better deals. Overall, if you're in the San Tan Mall area and craving sushi, it's worth trying at least once. Would I go back? Probably not but I'm glad I got to check it off my list.

Being a Japanese cuisine lover.. this place is awesome.! Toon family who is visiting there and this place literally comes close to the authentic cuisine and feels like you're in Japan! It was full of flavour, extremely good quality and fantastic variety! The service is always very prompt and friendly. Do try getting a seat early for dinner, as they wrap up by 9pm and if you get there later orders do they time to come.

It was a typical high end restaurant . It was packed in a Friday night when we went.. service was acceptable but not anything personable or interactive . We sat in front of the hibachi chef which was fun , but we kept getting ash on our table when he would fan the flames . The presentation of the food was great , the favors were typical . Nothing stood out to me as a wow . The teppanyaki beef was delicious the dipping sauces were tasty . The chicken skewers were ordinary and they said the spice powder had a kick . I was waiting for a big flavor profile but it was disappointing . I actually used the sauce from the teriyaki. The sushi was different they leave their cucumber skins on which gives a different crunch. The fish was soft and fresh tasting, but again not out of the ordinary for the price. I'm glad I got to try it out, but unless invited I don't believe I will be putting this in my rounds

This is such a fun experience! My friend and I sat at the sushi bar, we were able to watch the chef prepare all of our sushi! What a blast! The environment is very classy, aesthetic and our server was fabulous! We tried many items, and everything g tasted good, fresh and we would order it all again!

So I really liked this place while I was there but not the aftermath. I went there on a Sunday night so it wasn't super busy. We ordered a couple of different menu options varying in price, from basic rolls, spicy tuna rolls, other sushi options as well as expensive wagyu which was a nice choice for sure as far as taste and meat tenderness. You can tell they put a lot of thought into what they serve, service and presentation. It is such a cute place, tastefully decorated. I would say perfect for a date night or small groups of friends/ family get together. Now onto the aftermath... well the meal did not seat well with me and I was pretty sick for 1 and 1/2 day unfortunately. Maybe I got unlucky but one thing is for sure I will stay away from anything raw for the time being. I am still giving four stars for the other reasons mentioned but I didn't like how I felt after though.

In between cocktails, we shared a couple of snacks that were such a welcome addition -- something you sadly don't always find at local speakeasies! Of course, this place is known for its cocktails, so naturally they should be great--but trust me, I've been to several cocktail-only establishments that were lackluster. Absolutely NOT the case here. You could literally put all the pages of the menu on a wall, throw a dart, and whatever you hit would be delicious and interesting in its own right. The place is a little small, but honestly, that's what I love about it. It feels cozy in all the right ways. It's also very relaxing, floating along the sea with some delightful surprises here and there. We ordered several drinks, but one that's not on the menu (and they do make it) is the Pearl Diver, which is magnificent here. The mixologists and servers are all amazing and should be proud of themselves for bringing such an experience to Gilbert.

She loves Alice in Wonderland. She was mistaken and thought it said Java not Kava. She thought Java Kava was a coffee lol So to my surprise when I get there, Kava is a dirt water that is very, very strong and pungent and not my cup of tea lol But besides that, this place is so hip and cool. The bartender was very, very informative and he let us know that they will give you your first dose of Kava for free to try it. I could not choke all of it down. My friend was a trooper goddess, and she choked the whole thing. I was so impressed by her I am very sensitive to things. I am a big baby sometimes so I did not drink the rest of mine because immediately I had a gag reflex going on lol So I did not drink the initial dose, but I ordered the Horchata beverage that had cover in it. And they have different doses, strengths and different styles of, so this is just what I ordered. It was the last light, on the menu he suggested for us. So even though I did not enjoy the Kava, it is not my jam. But a friend wanted to meet for food around the area and this spit popped up on Yelp. It didn't disappoint! I was skeptical at first as having a sign posted at the sidewalk and a bouncer outside the stairs going down, was a sheer sign that this isn't such a secret and speakeasy-like spot. But I was proven wrong very quickly. Dre who was the bouncer and I'd much rather call Drayden, is young but friendly. The hall leading down to the entrance was well decorated. It's hard to miss the door when you can hear people on the other side :). Hostess was nice. Alex immediately introduced himself from behind the bar as I sat down, and Meagan was the main bartender this night. They were both a wealth of knowledge when it came to cocktails. This time was checking…read moreout a speakeasy located in the heart of downtown Gilbert on a Friday evening at 9 p.m. I parked for free on the street before making my way to The White Rabbit. There are some things I really love about The White Rabbit and some that I didn't. Ambiance (3/5): When I think of a speakeasy, I think intimate. The White Rabbit is not that. It's pretty large for a speakeasy with a large bar and a good number of tables/booths. They weren't at capacity while I was there, but there were a good number of people there. Which made it pretty loud. To the point where you have to yell at your bartender when ordering your drink so they can hear you. Perhaps a much different experience on a week day. Getting in the speakeasy was both a hit and a miss. If you're subscribed to their email list, as I am, you get a different password every month. I was excited about this. Upon approaching The White Rabbit, I saw a sign naming the establishment and pointing me in the right direction. This takes away from the spirit of speakeasies which are supposed to be truly hidden without any signage identifying the restaurant. You'll see a velvet rope blocking a stairwell where you tell one of the bouncers the password. I had a reservation. If you don't know the password, as another party there didn't, they ask you to access a QR code to find out or ask others who are waiting. I appreciated the dedication to the cause. Once you get in, you walk down the stairwell, and then enter a cool hallway decked out with Prohibition-style decor. That leads you into the main room. The main room is also Prohibition-style though a bit unremarkable. The bathrooms are clean and also feature some cool paintings (and they also hide that they are actual bathrooms). With that being said, when I liked the hallway and the bathrooms better than the bar itself, that's a bit of an issue. Seats at the bar are bar stools without back support. Never fun for my old man back. I did, on the other hand, appreciate that they have free WiFi. Service (3.5/5): The service was generally pretty good, though a bit slow. They start you off with some water without asking you which is always a nice touch. It was just one of those situations where you have to put some effort into getting a bartender's attention on several occasions. Food (N/A): I had dinner prior so no food for me. I did check out the menu. They have a small selection of appetizers, flatbreads, and desserts. Drinks (3/5): When I'm at a speakeasy, I'm looking for creativity and an interesting blend of ingredients and flavors. While The White Rabbit has a good number of cocktails, many of them didn't attract me. Part of it is a matter of personal preference. There were only two drinks out of about 20 that I was interested in. Overall, I wanted a little more, but with that being said, the drinks were reasonably priced for a speakeasy. Not a bad speakeasy by any means, I have super high standards when it comes to these watering holes. Just not in my top five when it comes to speakeasies in Phoenix and surrounding areas.

It had been quite some time since I had last been, and my most recent visit didn't disappoint. Every time I've ever been here, it's always been busy during the dinner rush, but service has always remained quick and attentive. It certainly isn't what I would call a "fine dining" experience, but it's upscale enough and has good enough food to feel like a meaningful night out with family, friends, or your partner. For an appetizer, we enjoyed their bread and butter, which was fantastic. The bread also came with olive oil and seasonings to dip it in, which was also very tasty. For dinner, I enjoyed their grilled cod with French and sweet potato fries, as well as coleslaw. While the fish was slightly overcooked, the meal overall was still delicious, filling , and well worth the trip back to High Tide. Definitely swing in if you've never been!

I had ice tea and wife ordered the blood orange jenny drink; both were great and refreshing! I also ordered a loaf of their warmed sourdough and butter to share with the table. Almost like being in San Francisco! For dinner we decided to share a couple of things; the crab cakes, which comes with fried avocado and some of the best aioli for dipping. The cakes themselves are big and full of crab with just the right amount of filling to create a decadent and moist cake! We also shared the seared jumbo scallops...High Tides knows how to cook scallops to the best! So yummy and tender and perfectly cooked with that crispy outer and the soft, creamy inside. We also shared a Caesar salad and one of the things we love about this place...ask and you can get some fresh anchovy on the side to add to the salad. Wife always asks for more lemon as well to drizzle over the salad. Overall a fantastic dinner for us and everyone with us!
