I came in again and this is is during Arizona Chef's week 8/8/2026. It was $66 for 4 courses. You can choose 1-2 items per each course. Course 1: Hamachi Peach Crudo peach amazu / pickled daikon/ smoked tomato oil / red pepper. This dish was right in my alley! I love Hamachi, and peach! And this is my first time having this combo in a crudo. It was many flavors all combined in one dish. 10/10 . **Please add this dish to your permanent menu! Course 2: Spicy Scallop Futomaki/hokkaido scallop / benishoga / chili crisp/ takuan / wasabi mayo. This roll tastes great, scallop tastes fresh and I love the way it was seasoned. However the rice around it was too much that I couldn't taste the scallop fully. I wouldn't get this dish again because of the rice around it was too much. Course 3: Ocean Trout Mi-Cuit/ okinawa potato croquette / citrus cream/fried capers / crispy salmon skin. I love the cream and the capers in this dish. The fish is seared. Although not much flavor in the fish itself but because of the sauce, it complements the dish well. Course 4: Dessert - Yuzu Lychee Sorbet/vanilla whisky hojicha granita. Oh my gosh, this is my favorite dish! It was so good and refreshing! The yuzu sorbet was tart and creamy. And the hojicha ice underneath was delicious! I would come back to the restaurant just for this dish and the first dish!

I had the chance to enjoy Shimogamo for a birthday dinner, and it certainly didn't disappoint. The restaurant was quite busy, which isn't surprising since I've only heard positive things about it. From the moment we sat down, staff was very attentive, helpful with menu recommendations, and very knowledgeable about all of the options on the menu. I started with an order of their garlic chili edamame, which really hit the spot, though it was spicier than expected. I then ordered their citrus roll, which came recommended by our waiter. The role was fresh, delicious, and refreshing. A perfect recommendation! Overall, a fantastic experience, and one that ensured I will be back for more occasions in the future.

Love this place and their Chandler location as well. Great Sushi and delicious Japanese dishes that taste amazingly fresh and flavorful. The service is great with multiple leather apron clad waiters and waitresses taking care of every dining needs. Water glasses always refilled, food served promptly and dishes cleared as soon as needed. The atmosphere is that of a Japanese restaurant and having visited Japan I actually appreciate the brightly lit dining room and the ambiance.

Shimogamo has exceptional food quality and provides a tantalizing experience from beginning to end. Beautifully appointed seating/bar area, staff is beyond knowledgeable and the chefs serve up something I can only articulate as something that must be experienced! Visually artful, delicate & colorful; delightfully tantalizing on the palate you'll think you're in heaven. Well done!!!

Q: What is a cat's favorite item at a Japanese restaurant? A: Tempurrrrrrra! I made reservations to pop in on a Friday night and woo! It was a scorcher! It was definitely warm inside but as long as the fish is cold, I'm fine with a little heat. As a fan of their Chandler location, I knew I had to eventually pop into their Gilbert location. Truly a gorgeous space. The bar was lovely, the staff was knowledgeable and polite, and the windows made the space bright and inviting (their Chandler location definitely being darker). It's the kind of place you go to when you want to support local and dine well. Cocktails, garlic dashi fries ($12), fried shishito peppers ($12), ceviche spoons ($18), hamachi lime crudo ($22), two orders of bluefin crudo ($36), a hamachi lime roll ($22), and a caramel miso cheesecake ($9) were ordered and consumed with vigor. Never a bad bite from Shimogamo. Definitely take a look at their daily specials menu and ask your server for recommendations.

We mainly came here for restaurant week but couldn't resist ordering more sushi. They have an amazing deal running until 5/24. $55 for the dinner set was so worth it! The camera usually eats first BUT when they brought the skirt steak......we devoured that immediately!! It was the best part of the dinner set. I'd def come back to try their skewers! It was pretty cool watching the chefs cook the bbq over the fire. We experienced good food & great service! The dinner set was a great introduction to this restaurant & we can't wait to try the rest of the menu.

Spoon shooters - citrus scallops and ponzu seared salmon

A small intimate setting, nice atmosphere. We sat at the sushi bar. It was comfortable. The food was incredible. Everything tasted so fresh. Happy hour deals are excellent. We had Brussels sprouts, spicy salmon roll, pork belly hand roll, ceviche spoon shooters, and udon carbonara. The ceviche spoon shooters is a MUST. Was a little bummed about the service. Our server was very slow to check in with us and seemed very uninterested in being there. But overall, good date night and will go back.

Came here for a celebration with a group of girls with original intentions of an omakase but we didn't know we had to do an advanced reservation so it was a bummer. We instead explored the menu and had a variety of items. Small Plates: -Fried Shishito peppers - unavailable so we got -Fried brussel sprouts - with sweet soy sauce and garlic which was delicious. -Agedashi dofu - a soulful bowl of deep fried breaded tofu potato starch in a savory dashi broth Nigiri/sashimi: -seared salmon - a staple to always count on -unagi roll Signature rolls: -double salmon roll- anything salmon is on my list -yuzu tuna roll- the yuzu citrus gives an added dimension. -oxtail roll- this was a bit odd and seemed like it was out of place for a roll. Japanese Bluefin: -O-toro- fattiest tuna belly - Akami- lean bluefin I always love brussel sprouts made right and cannot go wrong with toro. A few requested surprise mocktails were made one with a mint, another with a Japanese plum and another with a passionfruit syrup. Along with some sake. Service started off rocky when our sushi selections wasn't picked up earlier in the start of dinner so we were hungry. It got a little better as the waiter did his best later on. Waters were filled. I would like to try omakase next time.

This rating is more 3.5 stars. The restaurant is clean and modern but it is smaller than the Chandler location. There's plenty of parking which is always a plus. My girls and I were supposed to come here for Omakase for their birthdays but unfortunately, I didn't know we were supposed to let them know in advance so that was a bummer. We ended up ordering a bunch of different appetizers, sashimi, nigiri, and rolls. I thought it was okay. The presentation is beautiful but the taste wasn't special. If anything, it was a bit bland. Service could have been better. He was friendly but wasn't warm. I probably wouldn't come back here again unless it's someone's birthday.

This was the first time we have been to this restaurant. It was for my grandson's 21st birthday. Everyone had a wonderful time. The service was outstanding and the food was everything we expected and more. My grandson said he thought it was the best meal he had in his whole life. Kudos!

Went back for Omakase. It was good, with a great verity. I wouldn't go back and try it again. I was surprised to be underwhelmed. However the service was great and attentive. Very helpful and very informative.

It is one of my favorite places to go, I give it a 4 because the chandler location is definitely a 5! Haha but both are really fantastic to eat at! The Wagyu sandos are my favorite! The scallops at this location are better than the chandler as in taste because they were spicy and had flavor, I loved that! The service was very attentive and helpful! Super kind, this location is was bigger and more opened in space. Give it a try!

Dawn M.

The hubby and I came here during a lunch date. Ordering was a bit different for us. Everything was more like single order which worked out because we got to try a little bit of everything from hand rolls, soup, etc. Staff were great and accommodating. I'd like to come back for their dinner menu.

The self-appointed king of speakeasies is back at it with another one. This time, to review a…read morerestaurant group that is behind quite a few speakeasies in the greater Phoenix area. I stopped by The Blue Heron for dinner and drinks on a Friday evening at 8:30. I made a reservation. Parking won't be a problem in the charming shopping center that surrounds the speakeasy. Ambiance (3.5/5): If you see a Crust Pizzeria, expect that there's a speakeasy inside. Once you're inside the restaurant, find an unmarked door close to the bathroom. That will take you into the speakeasy. Since it's hidden, the Blue Heron qualifies as a speakeasy. My gripe? Like their other speakeasies, I wish there was something more creative than an unmarked door. A game or riddle to get in. Something more than a hidden door. Etc. Just something to spice things up. With that being said, when you're inside, the ambiance is nice. It's classy. There's some bird decor (it is named The Blue Heron after all), and it's comfortable. Service (4.5/5): Our waitress did a great job taking care of us. She was attentive, friendly, and checked in at the right times. No issues and there's not much she could have done better. Especially since the speakeasy was pretty busy. Food (4/5): With an Italian restaurant backing them up, The Blue Heron has a nice food menu. It's essentially a selection of items from the Italian restaurant. I had the vodka chicken parm which was a good portion. A bit expensive but a solid dish. You typically see chicken parm with marinara sauce so vodka sauce was a nice twist. It didn't come with spaghetti (or any type of pasta), so that was a bit unusual. Drinks (4/5): When it comes to a speakeasy, I look for creativity and an interesting blend of ingredients and flavors. The Blue Heron does that well. They have a nice list of creative cocktails to choose from, many fitting the bird theme. I had two cocktails and I was happy with both of them. The menu also gives a background on the speakeasy. Pro Tip: Crust Pizzeria has several other speakeasies including Ostrich Bar, The Goose, and two others. You can find them in various suburbs including Mesa, Scottsdale, Gilbert, and Peoria. I've been to three of the five. Two more to go!

This restaurant is legitimately fantastic and deserves to be discovered by more people. My husband and I went on a Friday night, and the place was absolutely poppin with a great, lively atmosphere. The burger was delicious, the Philly cheesesteak was fantastic, and the fries deserve their own shout-out. They're cooked in beef tallow, and the crisp on them was absolutely perfect. The onion rings were also delicious! They had an amazing beer special while we were there, buy one, get one for $1, which I believe may have been a Labor Day special, so definitely check before you go. But we were more than happy to take advantage of it! One thing I really loved was seeing the chef come out and make his way around the restaurant to say hello and check in with everyone. That always creates such a welcoming, personal vibe and says a lot about a place. Seriously, if you haven't discovered Smoke & Grain yet, put it on your list. She loves Alice in Wonderland. She was mistaken and thought it said Java not Kava. She thought Java Kava was a coffee lol So to my surprise when I get there, Kava is a dirt water that is very, very strong and pungent and not my cup of tea lol But besides that, this place is so hip and cool. The bartender was very, very informative and he let us know that they will give you your first dose of Kava for free to try it. I could not choke all of it down. My friend was a trooper goddess, and she choked the whole thing. I was so impressed by her I am very sensitive to things. I am a big baby sometimes so I did not drink the rest of mine because immediately I had a gag reflex going on lol So I did not drink the initial dose, but I ordered the Horchata beverage that had cover in it. And they have different doses, strengths and different styles of, so this is just what I ordered. It was the last light, on the menu he suggested for us. So even though I did not enjoy the Kava, it is not my jam. I would try it again lol I know that sounds crazy even after the strange tingling in my throat went away after everything I've said because I saw other people coming in and they had huge juicy type of Kava drinks and I was thinking well you know, maybe I'll come back and try the juicy, drink next time instead of focusing on this particular experience And the reason I say that is because the bartender was so great and informative and it is a fantastic vibe in there and it was busy enough for a weird Wednesday afternoon. So they have trivia karaoke all kinds of stuff throughout the week and I could see this being a really fun place. So if you like Kava, you should really come here. It is very fun. They had really great music going on and like I said the bartender was top-notch. Good job mad Hatter.!!! Try it!!

A Yelp search for local speakeasys led us to The White Rabbit, an establishment located roughly 30 minutes away from my buddy's home. Upon arriving, we provided the friendly security staff with the "secret" password for the evening. Entering the dimly lit bar, we were warmly greeted by a server and the vibrant sounds of laughter. After being seated, we began perusing the drink menus (they have an overwhelmingly amount of options) and I arrived on the "Smoke and a Smile" as my first drink. Taking in the environment as we awaited our drinks, I observed that this venue serves as an appropriate setting for either a date night or a night out with friends. Our drinks arrived shortly, in which we all expressed how delicious our selections were. So delicious that we all took turns passing our drinks around as if they were flight samplers. We ended up having three rounds of drinks before heading over to the dance floor portion of the venue, in which we had additional drinks while enjoying the nostalgic hits being played by the DJ. I did appreciate that the speakeasy was below ground and required a password. I do think it's odd that when making a reservation online, you are not prompted on how to retrieve the password. Thank goodness my friend receives the emails and let me know ahead of time what to say. You enter down a long hallway and wait at a bookcase that opens. It kind of feels like forever because there's nowhere to go and could create a little bit of potential claustrophobia/panic for people who may be sensitive to those types of environments. The drink menu was good but I really wasn't wowed. They did offer three mocktails which wasn't really impressive and the cocktails did include a variety of liquors and flavor profiles but again, wasn't as extensive or interesting as some other speakeasies around town. The food menu was very disappointing - a lot of dairy and bread - pretzels with cheese, flatbread, queso with chips, and "rabbit food" - hummus with bread and vegetables. We asked to have all vegetables instead of bread and they did accommodate with a generous helping of full-size rainbow carrots and cherry tomatoes. We actually ran out of hummus before we could finish the vegetables. I understand elevated pricing for the aesthetic/experience but I did think the pricing here was a little bit high for what was received.
