Well, this is a little surprise down the street, I had Kava with a girlfriend the other day for the first time. My friend picked this place because it was quirky and cool. She loves Alice in Wonderland. She was mistaken and thought it said Java not Kava. She thought Java Kava was a coffee lol So to my surprise when I get there, Kava is a dirt water that is very, very strong and pungent and not my cup of tea lol But besides that, this place is so hip and cool. The bartender was very, very informative and he let us know that they will give you your first dose of Kava for free to try it. I could not choke all of it down. My friend was a trooper goddess, and she choked the whole thing. I was so impressed by her I am very sensitive to things. I am a big baby sometimes so I did not drink the rest of mine because immediately I had a gag reflex going on lol So I did not drink the initial dose, but I ordered the Horchata beverage that had cover in it. And they have different doses, strengths and different styles of, so this is just what I ordered. It was the last light, on the menu he suggested for us. So even though I did not enjoy the Kava, it is not my jam. I would try it again lol I know that sounds crazy even after the strange tingling in my throat went away after everything I've said because I saw other people coming in and they had huge juicy type of Kava drinks and I was thinking well you know, maybe I'll come back and try the juicy, drink next time instead of focusing on this particular experience And the reason I say that is because the bartender was so great and informative and it is a fantastic vibe in there and it was busy enough for a weird Wednesday afternoon. So they have trivia karaoke all kinds of stuff throughout the week and I could see this being a really fun place. So if you like Kava, you should really come here. It is very fun. Can't recommend this place enough. We tend to occupy the ahwatukee location more, but Gilbert is just as nice (albeit a little bit smaller). The drinks are delicious, the employees are friendly and knowledgeable, the products do what they're supposed to do. Ambiance is relaxed and cute. read more

I went to the ahwatukee location a few weeks ago with a friend. I have had Kratom and Kava several times before and always had a great experience. Our waitress Shiro seemed nice however she wasn't able to explain kava or Kratom to myself and my friend who had never been there before and never had kava or Kratom. Which I thought was odd but didn't think much of it at the time. She brought us our drinks (we both ordered Kratom) and they both looked like muddy water and tasted like straight up plant medicine. In my experience when you order Kratom it's mixed with Sprite and other flavors but these drinks did not present that way or taste that way. My friend was not able to drink hers at all because it was too strong and gave her a headache (she had maybe three sips). Keep in mind the waitress dropped our drinks off told us they were strong and suggested we drink lots of water. My friend and I were there for several hours catching up talking and the waitress never once came back and checked on us, offered water or literally anything. Long story short it turns out the waitress made our drinks with the "bottom of the batch" which is the most concentrated part of the batch. I ended up having a very bad reaction to my ONE drink which I couldn't even finish. I broke out in hives, couldn't walk straight, had the worst case of vertigo ever and projectile vomited for the remainder of the evening. It took TWO full days for the Kratom to get out of my system. BEWARE of this particular location'! This could have been a much worse outcome however I did get medical treatment right away. I will be reporting this company to the Health Department and taking action as poorly managed facilities that serve plant medicine should NEVER EVER have staff that doesn't know literaly everything about what they are serving and how to serve it SAFELY!!!! As a wellness business owner I am a huge advocate of plant medicine and its benefits however this was a dangerous situation. When we called the manager the evening it occurred his response was "don't go to the hospital, she probably just is not used to Kratom" REALLY?!! Thank goodness my friend didn't drink her drink and was able to safely drive me home. This should have never happened. And I don't want this to happen to anyone else. read more

Instead, we were greeted by the amazing Jill, our kava-tender (yes, that's a thing), who whipped up some next-level Kratom and Kava cocktails that had us floating in the most delightful, legal way possible. A chill, eclectic mix of friendly faces, trippy decor, and an atmosphere so relaxed it could probably cure road rage. The Alice in Wonderland theme is on point--like, I half expected the Mad Hatter himself to pull up with a tea set and start a philosophical debate. This is the coolest find I have had in a few years. This place rocks. I absolutely love the atmosphere, it as addicting as their amazing , Kava & Kratom drinks (which are so yum). The staff is gold. They make you want to stop by just to see them and say hi. Just so friendly. One of the coolest things about this place is that it has a cheers type customer base without it being click-y . I have been welcomed by all since day one. I am not a big alcohol drinker , , which they do not serve. The alternative is the Kava/Kratom and the effects from the drinks are way more satisfying and way better on your mental and physical health. 5stars is not enough. This is definitely an interesting concept. They brew kava or katom like a green tea. However I will never go back. The warning of "my mouth going numb" and this was "normal" was enough to send me out the door. I did not feel safe there and not a place I would ever go again. Love the decor though read more

I love this kava bar, i come here all the time!!! but everytime i get a drink ordered from the one employee madi, she always gets my order wrong, & charges me completely incorrectly, 2x i ordered a 24oz large drink, and everytime i get it, its a 16oz & she charges me for the larger size?? i could have called this out both times in the moment, but the frost time she didn't care & the 2nd time i just was in a rush & had to get places, it's annoying when she does this, it's not cheap & i even told her 2x to clarify i wanted a large, but she still didn't, & it's just crazy to even charge me for a 24oz when she knows i got a 16?! it just bums me out, i love this place, but don't appreciate this customer service. even when im sitting at the bar before i ordered i wasn't welcomed in, just awkward read more

Completely disappointed in both the experience and the product. My "Pina Colada" tasted like straight chickpeas and the server behind the bar was incredibly rude. Walked away while we were ordering and tried to check us out before even taking the second drink order. Obviously didn't want "new people" there which is fine with me because we won't be returning. Our drinks were pretty disgusting and the customer service didn't make up for that. read more

Really cool place! This just opened 4 weeks ago. They have kombucha on tap as well as cold brew CBD coffee (cactus licker). They have green, white, and red Kratom drinks with a wide variety of flavors. They have kavachava (horchata kava) which tastes really good. They also have your traditional kava (mind or body or 50:50) they add coconut oil to increase absorption. In the back of the location they have a full smoke shop with vape liquid, delta 8, cbd, Kratom capsules, extracts etc. They also have a great selection of glass! My first experience with Kava and oh man was it an interesting one. My friend introduced me to the idea since I don't drink and it definitely takes some getting use to. The actual Kava is very earthy but the specialty mixes went down a lot smoother. This "Shelby L." chic does not know/or not knowledged enough to realize, as the bartenders always tell you, is a root. Kava is a ROOT, it's earthy and natural. Just cause you didn't like the taste does not give you the right to disrespect the culture surrounded behind kava. Every single bartender her is extremely respectful, informative, friendly, and always willing to change things to how you like it. Never ONCE in 3 years have I ever had a bad experience, only with people who disrespect the culture and write false reviews. The drinks are amazing, and if you don't like it; they are always willing to fix it. The bartenders spend the most time explaining things to new people; the earthy taste, mouth numbing, etc. Please, the only disrespectful person here that night, was you. One of our favorite places to frequent as of late has been The Mad Hatter, in our previous visits we had met a friendly owner. The owner was out going had great camaraderie with staff, and customers alike. Had our experience continued as before the star rating above would be a five star for sure! Unfortunately like Alice, we would meet the Queen of Hearts... As I mentioned before we had been there previously and had noticed regulars that sat at the bar typing away on lap tops. In previous times it had been a charming room where we could all work on various projects with this magic synergy in the air. When talking with my writing friend that has never ever experienced Kava, I knew the perfect place, and perhaps we would find inspiration. When we arrived the wonderland was occupied by the Queen and her court unbeknownst to us.There was four in our group and we were at the end of the bar closest to the entertainer. My friend's gf seated herself. There were two other seats open. When my partner and I recognized a regular. As we began making room for the regular, the queen of hearts entered. A loud whisper, "Oh no you don't, come talk to me?" The regular walked closer I believe to make the incident more private. The Queen of hearts began chastising the regular for taking a seat from paying customers. She continued telling him he was not wanted there, and he never purchases drinks. She insisted that she was just looking out for him and he needed to leave these nice people alone... At that point I couldn't stand there any longer. I turned to the woman and said, "You need to stop you're making me feel uncomfortable." She insisted I was wrong, and I said no, You're wrong. We were offering our seats, and I don't care if he has bought drink or not he just got here. She said I didn't know the history. I retorted, " You can't do this anymore, denying people a seat at the bar that went out a long time ago, and there's no reason to bring it back. She began yelling at me that this is her sons big moment. I said it doesn't excuse bad behavior, and I have watched people of privilege walk all over everyone without consequence, I refuse to be bystander when someone being racist. She began saying honey I'm the owner's ex wife! The artist briefly tried getting the queen to calm down and then a man with a booming voice began yelling at us ladies to go out side.This was the kings of Hearts as I have since learned. I was floored that no one was reassuring the regular. Later a woman who I thought was a manager was asking my story I explained and she said we just wanted everyone happy. Later she said she was the gf of the owner, clearly my concerns about the queen of hearts was not going to be heard. When I was walking out the Queen of Hearts said good riddance and clapped. I then waited for rest of my group as they quickly paid. This was such a magical place. I was excited with the new projects they have with their new line of Kratom (which I was currently in the middle of reviewing for a blog). "Regular Guy", if you're out there. I genuinely wanted you to have the seat, and I apologize for how you were treated. I won't be returning to this establishment. The environment is way too unpredictable, and I wouldn't want another run in with the Queen or any of her court. read more
