TLDR: A solid find in Fresh Meadows. Classic Cantonese dishes but done really really well. Salted egg prawns, black pepper steak cubes and mushrooms, the fried sticky rice! Popped in randomly on a weeknight with the family and so presently surprised. We got a bunch of things to share and everything was exceptionally good. The salt and pepper anchovies were chunky, flaky but crispy on the outside. The stir-fried specialties is a mix of jicama, garlic chives, dried squid and fried anchovies. Savory, so much texture, beautiful colors and amazing with some rice. The black pepper beef cubes with mushroom I was really shocked. Tender chunks of beef, a wonderfully rich mouthfeel with bouncy mushrooms. For such a classic dish - this was definitely the best version I've ever had. Salted egg yolk prawns. Fried, massively jumbo shrimps tossed in the salted egg yolk. It's hard to find a place that makes this and even harder to find one that gets it right. The fried sticky rice though was the star for me. The dice on the ingredients is so fine, everything just mixes together perfectly. The fried taro, salami-like bites of chinese sausage, there was significant wok hei in this. We just got it plain but I can imagine with some seafoood - wow. Haven't been back since but I may need to pay another visit soon.

3.5/5 stars rounded up. The food was on the saltier side for me, but all the flavors were good (simple, but good). We tried the chicken and eggplant, mapo tofu, shrimp and eggs, and water spinach. - Eggplant, chicken, and salted fish: This turned out to just be eggplant and chicken. I think there was some miscommunication because we ordered the lunch special version of this dish, not the full casserole. Instead of tofu, chicken, and salted fish, we opted for eggplant, chicken, and salted fish. This turned out to just be a basic Chinese takeout-like stir-fry. The chicken pieces were not dry, but they were pretty salty. The eggplant pieces were cooked well though, and they weren't overly salty at all. - Shrimp and eggs: The eggs in this dish were pretty salty, but I liked the ratio of shrimp to egg. The shrimp itself was very juicy. - Water spinach: This was my favorite. The flavor was simple but great, and it wasn't too salty. Overall, this place has decent Cantonese food. The wait staff is friendly. Portions are good, particularly for their lunch special, which is a pretty good deal.

Cantonese dishes were stellar; the fried pork intestine wasn't smelly and crisp, with ample meat. The fish was prepared well and easy to apportion. Frog was fresh and tender.

Looked like a lot of good choices from all the signs at this so called secret kitchen. Food was pretty salty but I can appreciate the homestyle food. Like pan fried noodles were literally pan fried and then cut up like a pie. The beef with tomato gravy was tasty but a bit too much salt. Ambiance was takeout place with some seats if you want to be served. So slightly elevated takeout. A little pricey.

"Secret! I've got a secret and I can't explain All the time I've waited for this day. All along I was never in doubt, I always knew it would ever get out...... " Secret- Sung by OMD The Secret is out! Classic Cantonese dishes where the serving sizes are generous and the service staff is friendly and gracious. They also have weekday lunch specials that are a steal. The breath of the wok is easily distinguishable as the proteins are seared perfectly and moist. Some of my faves are the Peking pork chops, beef chow fun and beef tenderloin in red wine sauce. Everything is cooked to perfection and I really can't find a meal here that has disappointed me. Go early as the street parking is limited.

Made a reservation for a party of 15 and we had an enjoyable and filling dinner. The food quality, service, and ambiance were all on point. Our meal ended with complimentary sweet red bean soups and sliced cantaloupes. ORDERED: Peaking duck - it came out whole and our server cut and separated them on a separate table. It was delicious. Walnut shrimp - I love the shrimp. They were made to perfection. Very tasty. Chicken with garlic sauce - it was good. The chicken was so tender. Scallops with vermicelli on top - first time having the scallops on their shell and it was soooo good and yet tasty! My fav. for the evening. Braised Seafood w. Bean Curd Casserole - came out sizzling and the flavor was perfect. Lobster fried rice - they used sticky rice for this. The texture was soft and yet crispy with the crispy flakes. Sweet and sour sliced pork chop - my favorite dish since I was a kid and they made it just right. Pork belly - it was good. Per TCM, save this for last but before the dessert. White garlic water spinach - didn't get to try this one. Mushroom braised noodle - didn't get to try this one. Stir-fried fish filet - I love the texture and the flavor. It's a customized dish and it has lots of scallions. Don't know the actual name but the bones were used separately in the soup. Duck - don't know the actual name but the aroma and flavor were sooo good. Wok fried delicacies - it was good. Soup - it was customized. Don't know the name but they used the leftovers from our dishes like the Peking duck, fish bone, etc. with tofu to make it. 10% off when paid in cash. They also offer special sets for different occasions such as the baby's 100th day, Lunar New Year, etc. Recommend.

Small fried fish with chives - so delicious and not as oily as I anticipated

Love that I don't have to go out to Chinatown to get Cantonese food and it's just as good here. Always consistent and the staff is very nice. Pictures include some of what we order.

Secret Kitchen is a solid Cantonese restaurant located in Fresh Meadows and it's such a convenient location on Horace Harding with so many other stores nearby. There is a small parking lot around the corner, but street parking is also available. I've been coming here for a few years now and their food has always been consistent. Their Gold & Silver Egg Fried Rice is probably one of my favorite dishes from them. It's full of flavor and they load it with something super crispy that gives the fried rice that extra texture. I wish I knew what the English name is for this dish, but the one with stir fried veggies with seafood and fried silky tofu with shrimp on top is another one of my favorites. I haven't tried their lunch specials, but apparently it is worth it and delicious. There's so many other dishes that they do really well, but honestly anything you order from them will be good.

A Cantonese restaurant in Fresh Meadows? Yes, please! Anytime we don't have to go into Downtown Flushing is a plus. Four of us came back from a long day of driving (from Nassau County to Queens to Brooklyn to Suffolk County to Fresh Meadows) and we were just STARVING!! We pulled off the bumper to bumper traffic on the LIE when we saw Secret Kitchen. Let's just say, our growling stomachs and the anticipation of good Cantonese food was the driving force...we totally inhaled our food! Haha Our menu (shared by 4ppl): -- Stewed pork belly w.lettuxe $18.96 -- Grouper fillet w.tofu casserole $19.95 -- Crispy fried chicken (half) $17.95 -- Sauteed snow pea leaves w.garlic $20.95 -- Rice ($1.50/bowl) To be honest, as hungry as we were, the food at Secret Kitchen didn't really impress us. Overall, the flavors were extremely mild, even for Cantonese food. None of our dishes really wow'd us and we thought the food was extremely overpriced, considering the portion sizes. On a positive note, customer service was great and the restaurant is very clean! Would we return? If we were starving and stuck in bumper to bumper traffic on the LIE...sure!...or maybe we'll just go to Bagel Oasis! Hahaha But seriously, this is not the worst Cantonese food; however, there is definitely room for improvement.

Delicious quality Cantonese dishes near Fresh Meadows. Came here for lunch and the portions were great. We order the Pork Chops, Beef with Chinese Broccoli and House Special Sticky Rice. Everything was cooked to perfection. The beef was tender, the broccoli was the right texture. The pork chops had a nice crisp outside and inside was soft and melted in your mouth. The fried rice had great flavors and a new favorite! The place was very clean, decorated nicely- classic Chinese meets modern. The server was so friendly and welcoming to me and my children. I'm glad I don't need to make the trek to deep flushing now to get good quality Cantonese food!! (The photos were after we started eating so that's why portions may look smaller.)

We've been coming here once a month. This is very similar to LN1380. The food is taste very good & no upset stomach

This is a nicely decorated Chinese restaurant with authentic Cantonese cuisine. They have the traditional noodle, chicken and duck dishes. Excellent squib, sticky rice, e noodles with seafood. The calms were okay but not my favorite. The pork chops were crispy and liked by all. Definitely recommend this place and would come back again!

The Secret is out! And it didn't come out of documents seized at Mar-A-Lago! Legit Cantonese has returned to Fresh Meadows after iChopsticks at this location closed. The newly renovated Secret Kitchen brings back many traditional Cantonese dishes that I had always grown up eating in Chinatown. Post-Covid inflation has hit restaurants hard and prices are a little steep and everybody is hurting, but this little place is doing their best. There are some specials and they still give complimentary fruit and dessert at the end of the meal. For a weeknight family dinner, we usually start with a soup, either West Lake Beef & Cilantro or Corn & Minced Chicken, both good choices here. Interested in an appetizer? Not on the regular menu, so ask your server if they have Fresh Jumbo Oysters or Scallops in Shell. They can be steamed with Garlic & Vermicelli or Black Bean Sauce served on the half shell. These are market price per piece, so check beforehand ($$$). I had a hankering for Pan-Fried Flounder and SK does it well with crispy fins that you can crunch and the fillet just slides off the bone when it is perfectly cooked. I have literally served hundreds of flounders this way in my lifetime. I know my fins from my fillets. Following up we'll have either a half Crispy Garlic Chicken or Sliced Chicken & Chinese Broccoli. My son's favorite is always the Peking Pork Chops, fried and tossed in a sweet and tangy sauce, which goes really well with rice. There are also choices of fresh vegetables not specifically on the menu, but ask for what is available. Usually we will order Sautéed Pea Pod Leaves & Garlic, but sometimes switch it up with Baby Shanghai Bok Choy or Chinese Water Spinach & Preserved Bean Curd. Whatever you go with, you're guaranteed an authentic and delicious Cantonese meal. Some hot tea? Gaun Biu!

Service was minimal at best but they just seemed under staffed honestly. And when the server did come by, she was running quickly to and from. The place was not busy when my friends and I were seated. But there was a back room in guessing that had occupants since she was missing in the front seating area. (There was a two person table occupied in the front near us). My party of three over ordered but that was intentional because, any purchase over $100, you get a free lobster and each of us had items we wanted, figured we would doggie bag the leftovers. All in all a great value. The lunch spread had over 7 dishes and we got the free lobster. I was especially happy to see Fried Milk on the menu as an appetizer. They also provide complimentary salted peanuts and pickled radish and carrot slivers. I recommend the snow pea shoots, fried milk, clams with black bean sauce and the Chinese Broccoli with Filet beef. The other dishes like the lobster, noodles and sweet and sour pork were executed well but just not my flavor profile. And with my food allergy, I couldn't try the shrimp with walnuts but it was my friends' birthday so she ordered that for her treat. It looked great! We were famished and only focused on what yummy dishes to order. My wife, son and daughter all contributed their suggestions and we ended up ordering pan fried whole flounder, half of the roast chicken with garlic, filet mignon with Chinese broccoli, fried rice with chicken and salted fish and everyone's favorite dish salt & pepper squid. Once we placed our order and were enjoying the roasted peanuts and free spicy cabbage we realized why everyone had their winter coats on, it felt like they had the AC on and it must have been 55° in the restaurant. I told everyone that once the food arrived things would warm up. Each dish that came out of the kitchen was perfectly cooked and was delicious. The salt & pepper squid with it's minced jalapeños kept us warm enough until the half chicken with garlic and filet mignon and Chinese broccoli came out in rapid succession. The star of the show turned out to be the giant sized pan fried flounder which was not only big but quite scrumptious. Unlike the little scrawny flounder that most other restaurants usually served this was a quite large and very meaty and perfectly cooked. The last dish to come out was a very large plate of chicken fried rice with salted fish. If it were not for the lack of heat, I would have given Chef Wong Bistro 5 stars!

No cart ladies, just a paper and pencil ordering system. The other diners that I usually encounter seem to strike me as locals, which is becoming harder to find these days. Prices are slightly more expensive than the other places, which is probably a factor as to why there aren't as many customers. The other reason is probably the subpar customer service here, which I've encountered on a number of recent visits. There are so many workers here, but none of them seem to have any good grasp of what customer service is. For example, I've had the waiter hover over me as I was gathering cash for my bill and snatched it the moment I placed the money down, also demanding at least 18% (again, for subpar service). Also, if you complain to them about your food, even if you find a hair, they will not do anything about it. The food quality is slightly above most of the dim sum places, but also bear in mind the hit-or-miss service you'll get, which the latter can be super frustrating.

There are a few very similar restaurants bearing similar names in Flushing, Little Neck and Chinatown. I'm not sure which is the "original" and honestly don't care. This one is on the small side, and when we walked in I kind of regretted it as the acoustics of the restaurant are horrible - it's very noisy even though there's only one other table at the time. They were blasting English radio but I don't think the workers are listening, as they kept talking very loudly among themselves and with the customers at the other table. There was another tv blasting Chinese wildlife tv on the other side. It's just very noisy. The food took quite a while to come even though there's only one other table when we arrived. The food was not as good as at the other locations, the congee and soup were too salty, and the char siu was not fresh and looked unappetizing.

Their congee menu is pretty decent as well. I haven't dined in so far, but from what I can tell, the restaurant looks clean. The service is quick and efficient; just call in your order and it'll be ready in about 10 minutes. They take credit cards as well.
