Came here on a whim on a chilly day and we were mind blown at how good the food was. Noodle soup came out in a clay pot that kept the soup warm the entire meal, papaya salad was interesting (I've only ever had Thai style, but this was also delish), and service was fast and prompt. Although the bbq skewers tasted good, it was a tad bit too oily. Also, the place is pretty small (table wasn't big enough for the amount we ordered) and they fill up pretty fast for dinner. Def would recommend to come on a cold winter day!

Came for a late dinner after seeing the comet and was craving rice noodle and decided to try this place out. The presentation of some of their dishes are really nice and overall the portions are big. The service wasn't bad and it was pretty packed at 8PM. Overall, would definitely come back for rice noodles in the future.

Best rice noodles soup in this area.

always walked by this place and intrigued by all the little dishes they give you for the rice noodles. we finally stopped in recently to see what they're all about! the restaurant is pretty spacious and half full when we stopped in. there are lots to choose from, ranging from the different types of rice noodles, to skewers, to cold dishes, etc. we ended up trying these: -xiu cai guo qiao rice noodle: broth comes PIPING HOT and the toppings come in a separate tray. the staff will add all of them to the broth at a lightning speed. the presentation factor is pretty cool. the rice noodle had a nice broth and noodles were cooked nicely too. -spicy beef guanguan rice noodle: didn't seem too spicy but once you give it some time, you realize it's SPICY SPICY. huge portion with a good amount of beef. -sliced beef and ox organs in chili sauce: sliced beef and tripe in an authentic szechuan chili sauce. this was really good! -preserved egg with chili: not for the faint of heart but i do love preserved eggs (aka. thousand year egg). it has a nice rich, umami flavor. the dish comes in a mortar and pestle like set-up, which the staff will then mash the preserved egg and chili together. really nice seasoning, but the chili peppers were realllllly spicy. i think using less of it would be much much better. i think this place surprised me quite a bit. the apps were great and rice noodles were hearty and comforting. will return to try more non-spicy options!

Great noodle spot! They aren't on the main street of Flushing but still, all of their tables in the outdoor seating section was full and most of the tables inside as well. The tables are spread out at a good distance from each other so it was comfortable to dine indoors. They actually have a pretty big selection of items to choose from on their menu from a variety of appetizers (both hot and cold) to skewers and their most known entrée, the rice noodles. Even for their noodles, there's a lot of different ones to choose from too. I ordered the Beef Guo Qiao Rice Noodle and really enjoyed it! All of the ingredients are fresh and brought out in individual small plates within a box. Then, they bring out a pot of boiling soup in a pot meant to keep everything hot which they mix in the fresh ingredients (meat, veggies and all) and the noodles that are already cooked. I really enjoyed it! The noodles are yunnan rice noodles so they were thick round noodles but had the perfect texture of not being overcooked and still chewy. The portion was actually really big - there were lots of noodles and plently of meat and veggies (mostly mushrooms). The broth was also very rich and flavorful so it was really tasty! I love that it remained hot through the entire meal too. A great spot for yunnan rice noodles plus lots of other appetizer items and small plates to share. The price for noodles is a bit higher than other places in the area (since Flushing has lots of great cheap eats), and depending on what you get, but the portions are big and it's tasty so go give it a try! Plus, I don't know too many places that serve yunnan style rice noodles either.

Looking for delicious Rice noodles stewed in a hot clay pot filled with a healthy helping of mixed vegetables, seafood and meat? Look no further, Den ji is the place to go. The restaurant specializes in rice noodles and I can see why. The noodles are delicate as they are firm and the hearty seasoned broths are a perfect pairing of the two. We ordered the beef stew for two with spicy broth. Since I wasn't sure on the spice level. I had them dial it down on the scoville meter. They can adjust the spiciness level to accommodate your taste and spice/pain threshold. The beef stew was amazing and placed on top of a portable propane stove on your table which kept everything piping hot. The flame on the stove was adjustable too. The beef was literally fork tender. There were also cuts of tripe, tendon and mixed veggies to complete the meal For appetizers we ordered the chicken and lamb skewers. Perfectly seasoned with cumin and moist and tasty with the right ratio of fat mixed in. Credit cards are accepted and though they only have one bathroom, it's very clean. Service was top notch, but I noticed English is not the language of choice here, but the servers knew enough to understand you. Parking spots are difficult to find so go early to look for a spot. Do not park across the street at the strip mall and think you can get away with it. They will tow your car! Looking forward to return to try the other menu items

The service is not nice, but their noodles are pretty good. If you have a small appetite the portions are great shareable size. And we love the fried youtiao.

Lamb skewers, dry and smokey just the way I like it, got an interesting aftertaste that I think it's some weird spice, 4.5 out of 5

A wonderful authentic hole in the wall place, really tickles my centron food and spicy food palate. I think a spices, makes the tribe exactly how I like it. Also, noodles were spot on. Service was average, I give it three out of five. But the food is definitely five out of 5 and the price is very reasonable to, four out of five.

This restaurant is tucked away among several other small eateries along Kissena Blvd, churning out yunnan mixian noodles in mini black clay soup jars. Piping hot broth on a cold night really hits the spot for me. There was one time when there was limited seats and the only available table was by the door. Everytime the door opened the cold air would hit us. But this really wasn't much of a problem, the noodle was hot and spicy enough for us to take off our coats and hope for the cold air to cool us down! Service: I believe there is only 1 younger waitress who can converse in English, so ordering can be difficult if she is not there. There is another older waitress who doesn't really speak standard mandarin, more of a mix of a different dialect---but she has a great memory. She gave us a membership card and promised us a free appetizer next visit, we did not visit here for 2-3 months and she still remembered! Food: Can definitely be on the spicy side, proceed with caution my spice intolerant friends!! Look for items that are not spicy, such as the seafood broth. The broths are all rich in flavor. Marinaded beef cold appetizer is thinly sliced beef shin mixed with a combo of herbs and spices. It had great flavor with a bit of a sting of spiciness but is slightly mellowed out by the peanut oil 4/5 Beef skewers had a cumin explosion, lots of juices flow out when bitten into 5/5 Chicken wings not as crisp as I want it to be, but there is definite good flavor! 3/5 Seafood jarjar rice noodle is recommended for those with low spice tolerance, good flavor with a mix of various seafood 4/5 Spicy beef jarjar rice noodle can vary in spiciness. I ordered this twice on different occasions and first time was tolerable but 2nd try I was sweating bullets! 4/5 Overall good place to check out! For those who haven't had Mixian noodles, it kind of reminds me of a white smooth spaghetti noodle but not as heavy/dense as normal spaghetti. A bit out of the way, but if you're in the area it's worth a try, I believe there are other locations as well.

FYI: they have a membership system that rewards you with free drinks or side dishes! PROS: the interior of this place is adorable, don't let the exterior and the surrounding area fool you. We started with some lamb skewers which were excellent. Flavor and seasoning were both spot on and the lamb was cooked nicely. Not too tough and still had some softness to it. The seasoning does lend itself to be a bit on the spicy end but nothing too terrible. The flavor of the broth in the noodle soup we ordered was delicious. It tasted rich and hearty without being too heavy. Had a nice overall pork flavor to it as well. The ingredients they dumped into the soup right before it hit the table was good and the texture of the rice noodles were perfect. Hefty portions and overall great meal that warms you up in all the right places. CONS: for starters, this place is smaller than what their popularity and clientele demands so while we were eating, people were piling up near the door and blocking that area. The menu was also 95% in chinese. I really don't think I saw much, if any, English on there whatsoever minus like the occasional pinying. It also kinda looked like we got jipped of some promised ingredients too (or got very little) cause i really didn't see much meat in there. Everything else also just sunk to the bottom so you really have to work to get a bit of everything. Otherwise, expect a lot of protein left over at the end.

    Noodle pot for two

I'm kinda mixed about the restaurant. We had four people and wanted to try different things not just the noodle pot. We ordered the noodle pot for two. The waitress turns to the two other people at the table and said if they are ordering that what are you ordering? You can't just order that and split. That kinda left a bad taste in my mouth. We haven't finished our order...We then also ordered the wood ear cold dish, scallion pancakes, spicy thousand year old egg dish, and cold seaweed dish. We asked if we can order 2 extra noodles and the waitress promptly said no. But left no reason so we asked why. She said you can only add one to the noodle pot. She saw that we weren't satisfied with answer so she added that extra noodle will change the flavor of the dish and that the noodles will get soggy. Then she said oh it's policy that you can't order two. So what was it? Policy or just random excuse? On to the food... the noodle pot was Not bad, there was a lot of random ingredients like Chinese 'snow ear,' wood ear, sea cucumber, fried pork skin, fish balls, chicken, bean sprouts, egg etc... three portions of noodles was definitely not enough for four people but the other dishes filled us up. The dish was simple and tasty. I really like the wood ear cold dish, the spicy fermented egg dish was flavorful but super spicy. The scallion pancakes were too oily. The seaweed was okay.

Would you like to be transported back in time to ancient china?…read more How about just testing your spice tolerance to see if you can hang with the best? Well, if you want all of that, PLUS hot pot, look no further - this is the place to be! There is a reason this is one of the highest recommend spots to visit when you're in Flushing. First off, entrance? SO UNASSUMING. It's like, the tiniest door, with no real obvious signage. Once you go through, you basically feel like you're in one of the ancient alleys of China - decor is 1000% great. We had a larger party of 7, and they were luckily able to accommodate us since we lined up a few minutes before opening on a Friday. We actually got IMO the best seats in the house - towards the back, elevated up on some steps, a mini pavilion essentially. But enough about the decor.. how was the food? Well.. GREAT! And honestly, for NYC prices, not too expensive (but a bit pricy for flushing I guess). The quality was top notch (highly recommend trying the mala quail eggs) and the spice of the broth was GREAT! We went with medium since our server (amazing btw, thank you Sean / Shawn / Shaun??) said that he can't even go near hot, it burns his eyes. Medium was just perfect - felt great eating it with some sweats, regretted it the day after, which means I couldn't have asked for a better experience! Meats were good quality, veggies were yummy. I wish the shrimp paste had more in terms of quantity, we barely had seven bites for each of us, but it was really good. Also, pro tip, probably don't order Napa Cabbage, a lot of their other dishes will sit on top of a whole leaf, so you'll probably get enough from that unless you want to consume half a head. Sauce bar is $2 a person - which might be shocking for some to know they charge it, but it's pretty much the norm at a higher end hot pot place in big cities. At least they don't charge $6-$8 like some places and only throw in a few apps/desserts to try to justify it. Overall, really loved this place, and would definitely go back.

All the other dishes were also fantastic. Portions are also great, we ended up taking lots home. They gave us free dessert jellies which is also a classic Sichuan dessert; they also had a deal where you get free drinks if you order a certain amount of food, so we got two free drinks. I would have given a five star if not for the super long wait. Granted we did go for Christmas Day dinner. We saw them having to turn away lots of customers. They are super popular. Main issue is there isn't a number system, so getting a table felt a bit random; we considered ourselves lucky. Our servers were very friendly and nice. They told us it would be a bit of a wait, but this was the longest I've ever waited for food: 45 min before the first dish was served. We ordered 5 dishes with rice (forgot to take pictures of two of them). I wasn't told one of the dishes I ordered wasn't available until 30 min after I placed my order.
