I love this restaurant. We've been going there since our kids were toddlers, my favorite is the spicy tuna roll - the best I've found. Also, the seaweed salad is yummy and the kids love the chicken teriyaki with tempura veggies. It's a favorite. But you must save room for the green tea ice cream. I don't often write reviews unless I feel very compelled. This sushi spot is hittin! I always get the 12 piece (very thick cuts) sashimi special. I'm a physique competitor so I eat a lot. 12 pieces from Samari are easily 24 pieces elsewhere. They always hook it up and the fresh wasabi is off the hook. Service is relatively poor--seemed to be only one English speaking woman who was seating people, taking orders and delivering orders. Restaurant was about 1/2-3/4 full when we arrived for a late dinner. Sushi was mediocre, but so was the price. Menu's were worn and dirty (which led me to wonder about the kitchen's cleanliness). Given all of the other food choices in Mill Valley/San Fran, I would not return. If you are looking for a cheaper Sushi/Japanese dinner, in a relaxed and casual environment, this might be the place for you. Strong 4STARS! A huge fan of this local (small) haunt. The tempura is right on and the special sushi rolls are so good. The kids meals for $6.75 includes tempura shrimp and teriyaki chicken and rice. I also love the Samurai special that is cooked salmon over a tempura shiso leaf, topped with spicy tuna on jalapeno peppers. I love this restaurant.. food is so fresh and delicious I love sushi bar to order which I like and drink hot sake. My daughter love udon but too little noodle inside the soup. Only down fall is waiting time when they get buses for dinner but can't wait to go there again. read more

I wish they have zero or minus star for this app. This place doesn't even look at you or say hi to you when you walked in. We were waiting for about 15 minutes to be seated. We asked a host to seats us, she responded with an angry grandma attitude,Then another half an hour to order our food. Sushi was not as fresh as I expected. Since my original post, I've been back about 15 times! I have fallen in love with the chicken Yosenabe (tangy soup with chicken, tofu, noodles and vegetables with a soy-vinegar sauce). I also love the seafood Yosenabe. I have to get my fix weekly now. Service has been fine, no problems. The tempura I have samples from my BF's plate is very tasty, not greasy! A must try. This is exactly what you want a family owned and operated restaurant to be. The owners work every night and couldn't be friendly. They are very humble people but the secret is that the sushi chef was the private sushi chef for some of the most prominent businessmen in Japan. We're talking the CEOs of auto makers. My first time back at Samurai in more than 10 years - so multiple ownership changes since then. I had the tempura dinner so you can stop reading here if you want to know about the sushi. The food was good - tempura was battered and deep fried the right amount so prawns and vegetables were done but still crisp and tasty. So I give them 4 stars and will return to try the sushi next time. The only downside was the service - which seemed well-intentioned but not polished - even for a suburban sushi restaurant. If they work on this, they'll be on a more solid footing. Did I mention the price tag? At less than $18 including tea, dessert and tax seemed very reasonable for pricy Marin. read more

Hmmm, ordering steak at a sushi restaurant and being disappointed? The folks giving one or two stars...well...I guess I can say I totally disagree. I have been eating sushi since the mid 80's and although I am not an expert, I think I know good sushi. This small family owned, friendly place does a great job! If you must order cooked food, their salmon teriyaki is to die for. Their hijiki is better than any I ever had, and that is not even found at most sushi places. The food here was fresh and flavorful, would return for the sashimi anytime. Taking off 2 stars for terrible service. We were seated for at least 20mins with no sign from anyone that we existed. We finally flagged down a server to take our order who was very scattered. He was mixed up with serving us the wrong food, missing parts of the sides and bringing half the food quite late. It didn't help that we had an extremely loud group behind us that made conversation difficult. Again, great quality food. If you can come at a quieter time you'll get great food with better service. read more

It's really irritating when you try to call to place a take out order and its constantly a busy tone.... I had to walk in the restaurant to place my take out order, and overheard the staff talking about taking the phone off the hook so they dont have to answer it. That's not how you run a restuarant. I'd much rather wait 30 minutes and then go pick up my food then drive to the place wait in my car for 30 minutes then drive home. Annoying!!!!! read more

I love Samurai! My boyfriend and I go here at least once a week and we always get a table right away and get great service promptly. For vegetarians like me try the Vegetable Tempura entree- it comes with cucumber salad, side of rice, miso soup and a big portion of veggie tempura for like 12 bucks. Everything is fresh and tasty and quick. My boyfriend gets the salmon teriyaki which is also amazing. The staff is so friendly and gives out free tea! read more

Samurai closed suddenly a couple months ago (sadly due to the passing of Jun, the owner), and reopened this past week. Caroline is still there helping the new owner, Brian, run the restaurant. All I can say is that we are so excited to have our sushi restaurant back!! We have missed you! The menu has all the same items as before and there are a lot of new items as well. It was so hard to choose. We really liked the Ahi poke salad and we tried several of the new rolls on the menu. All very good. And we are excited to try all the rest of the new menu items. read more

My husband and I were looking for something to eat after our hike through Muir Woods, and this was one of the first suggestions with the best ratings. It did not disappoint! Samurai Sushi is our favorite sit down Sushi in Mill Valley. The sushi is delicious, and the price is reasonable for a family of 4. The non sushi meals are also fab - and the ambience is wonderful. There's usually not much wait to get a table; if they're busy the service can be slow but it's such a mellow wonderful scene I never mind waiting and sipping tea. The soft shell crab sushi is awesome as is the spicy tuna, yellow tail, dragon roll. read more

Samurai is a true gem. My boyfriend and I had a lovely, late-night date there. It was about 9:20pm, and although the place closed the kitchen a mere 10 minutes later they served us - and THANK GOD they did because it was wonderful. We enjoyed delicious cucumber/spinach salads to start, and then shared the crispy and delightful gyoza. He enjoyed a cooked salmon and crab roll, as well as a spicy tuna/california combo roll.. both of which were delicious. I had nabe soup which was similarly great and stomach-settling after the windy roads of marin hills. As for the service, it was great. the waitresses were kind and quick and allowed us to linger despite the restaurants closing. also, the sushi chef attentively listened to a lone-diner at the sushi bar who was waxing philosophical about relationships. all around i'd give this place an A+. We had a great experience, and this is my first ever yelp post because I liked it so much ! The food is delicious and the service is great. Especially recommend it if you are staying in stinson beach, as it's not too far and there are lovely views on the drive over. read more
