Decided to try out this spot as it had pretty decent reviews and it was on our way back to SF from Muir Beach. The parking entrance is a sharp right turn off the freeway, with the front only having four parking spaces. You should give yourself enough time to slow down and continue to the parking in the back of the restaurant, which has ample spots. You can enter the restaurant from either the front or the back doors, just have to make yourself noticed by the sushi chef or waitress since there is no designated "wait to be seated" area. Like the name suggests, this restaurant specializes in sushi, so the actual entree menu is limited to Beef, Chicken, and Salmon Teriyaki. There was also an interesting mix of vegetarian sushi rolls that consisted of tempura pumpkin or sweet potato. Service: We were the 2nd party to arrive at the restaurant for Sunday dinner, but quickly the restaurant filled up (including a big birthday party table) and there was only 1 waitress running around. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that having just 1 waitress/ waiter here isn't the usual case, but I would hope for a weekend they would be able to hire another person. One of our orders ended up going to a different table on accident and it was a little chaotic. But I applaud the waitress for her efforts all alone. Food: The entrees came with miso soup and salad and the beef teriyaki was tender. We also ordered the MJ Special sushi and Unagi roll and chicken karaage that were simple, but good. Our total came out to be a little over $70 before tip.

If you're looking for fresh, tasty, generous portions in your sushi from a large menu of options look no further than MJ's! Go early or you'll wait & having a choice of beverage Asahi dry beer or Sapporo on the house! Ambiance is missing but so what? I'd rather not pay much higher prices for ambiance & small pint-size pieces of sashimi or sushi w/more rice than fish! Andy Fan owns several MJ's in the Bay Area & the "Grand Opening" sign outside in Sausalito may be up for a while like New York shops in Times Square "Closing for Good" (tonight @ 6:30 in tiny letters). I sure hope this MJ's is here to stay. I for one recommend any if the many combo rolls-But sashimi is the best! Yum MJ...and we love Jane our fabulous server.

Large interior, quick service, and fresh fish! It's a bit cold in temp and all the servers and chefs were in down vests lol. I see it more of a takeout place, but the service was still great when I dined in.

I've been eating a lot more sushi for lunch lately, which is unusual for me, but since my usual go-to spot is often closed during lunch hours, I've been trying out different places. This time, MJ had a bunch of interesting options available on Uber Eats, so I decided to give it a try. First off, the fish quality was very, very good -- definitely a strong point. The rolls themselves were fine, though a bit less flavorful than I was hoping for. The miso soup was solid and exactly what you'd expect -- nothing remarkable, but no complaints either. When I went in to pick up the order, I was a little surprised by how empty it was. It was around 1:30 pm, peak lunch time, and there were only two or three people inside. That said, I didn't think too much of it and moved on. They did an excellent job with the packaging. Everything was packed neatly, and they were very generous with soy sauce and chopsticks, which was honestly nice to have and made the whole takeout experience easy. The sashimi platter could have been better -- that was probably the one item that fell slightly short for me. Also, the wasabi was placed in the middle of the rolls, so it ended up touching several pieces. If you're someone who likes to control how much wasabi you use, that might be a downside. Personally, I didn't mind too much. Overall, the food was good. Not the best sushi I've ever had, but definitely enjoyable. I'd absolutely order from MJ again, especially for lunch, even if it's not my new favorite spot. side note : food was super quick! 10 mins for the order!! and no waiting once there

Wow. Great sushi here. Fluefin Otoro 6 pieces for less than $20. Chirashi was amazing all large pieces, bluefin tuna slices between traditional bluefin and Chu toro. Hamachi great. Usually not a fan of albacore but the cut was amazing not tough and dense. The value is tremendous here. Service with a nice smile, rainbow row amazing. I would suggest ordering from the traditional menu if you're more a traditional sushi lover. Ambiance is comfortable. Large space. Tables and chairs what you'd expect from a local joint but adorned with some very beautiful chandeliers. Certainly eclectic and the team really cares. Well done. Don't know why this place is not rated higher than a 4 but it should be a 4.5 in my book.

Spicy tuna roll, Salmon Avocado Roll, Shrimp Tempura Roll, Dynamite Roll.

Good Prices, fresh rolls and good service. First time coming so I wanted to try different rolls. They were all good. The ambiance was nice, was surprise there wasn't many people. They also gave me a side of edamame for free. Will come back to try more rolls.

First time coming here and definitely going back!! Great customer service! Always checking on us, re pouring our water cup, and fast service! The food is so fresh and so yum! GREAT PRICES! I ordered 2 pieces of sake and it was only $13! super buttery! I ordered the dragon roll and it came with 8 pieces! great sizes! my boyfriend got the salmon teriyaki combo and it was delicious! Crispy skin and great flavors! It came with miso soup, salad and rice. Sooo coming back here! Well done!

The Jalepeno Bombs we're da bomb. Not overly spicy but with a great smoky heat. Went nicely with the warm house sake.

The chef is detailed in his craft. I loved watching him put together the sashimi platter, adorning the fish with shiso, kelp, and sunomono. To drink, I tried the gluten free beer which I don't often see on menus, and was pleasantly surprised at how crisp and refreshing the taste was. We ordered a variety of sushi and also hot foods to try. We enjoyed all of the dishes we ordered. Looking back, I'm not sure if I had complaints about any particular one. I think the agedashi tofu is artfully done. I'm a long time ageda fan, while my boyfriend is iffy on it, but this one he thoroughly enjoyed. The fried fish with the house-made tartar sauce was a great appetizer to start off the meal. As for the fish, very fresh and quality. It was fun pairing the different sashimi with the variety of accoutrements like the shiso, lemon, and kelp. Service was fantastic as well. Overall, a lovely dinner experience and I would recommend others to visit Sushi Ran.

We opted for the Brunch Prix Fixe menu ($49 per person), selecting two appetizers and two entrées, and every single dish exceeded expectations. To begin, the Jalapeño Lobster Toast was a standout. The lobster was incredibly tender and sweet, elevated by a delicate kick from the jalapeño, the ginger aïoli added a subtle warmth. Each bite was layered, balanced, and deeply satisfying. Equally impressive was Michael Mina's Ahi Tuna Tartare (well worth the supplement). This dish was a masterpiece of freshness and complexity. The tuna was pristine, melting in the mouth, while the combination of mint, chilis, and Asian pear created a mix of coolness, heat, and sweetness. The pine nuts added a welcome crunch, and the garlic habanero-sesame oil delivered a bold, aromatic depth that made the dish very unique. For the main course, the Bungalow Benedict was pure comfort elevated to perfection. Served on a beautifully toasted Model Bakery English muffin, the Canadian bacon was rich and savory, while the poached eggs were cooked flawlessly, their yolks silky and indulgent. The hollandaise was luxuriously smooth while the breakfast potatoes on the side were crisp, golden, and perfectly seasoned. The Steak Frites Au Poivre (also a supplement) was another highlight. The filet medallions were cooked exactly to temperature (we asked for med rare) tender, juicy, and full of flavor. The au poivre sauce added a refined peppery richness that complemented the meat beautifully. The crinkle-cut fries were crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside! Dessert was the perfect finale. The Brûléed Basque Cheesecake was extraordinary, so creamy and rich with a delicately caramelized top that added depth and texture. The Three Layer Chocolate Cake was pure decadence. Moist, rich, and intensely chocolatey, it was elevated by the lightness of whipped crème fraîche. The salted caramel sauce tied everything together with a perfect sweet-salty finish....you can tell I'm a chocoholic! Beyond the food, the ambiance deserves special mention. The space is incredibly refined, with a soothing palette of pastel tones that immediately invites relaxation. The décor draws inspiration from Art Nouveau and Art Deco, creating an atmosphere that feels both timeless and thoughtfully curated. Everything is immaculate, contributing to an overall sense of understated luxury. Finally, the service truly elevated the entire experience. The General Manager, Giovanni, was outstanding. He guided us through every detail of the menu, offering thoughtful explanations and perfectly pairing wines with each course. His presence was attentive yet never intrusive, making us feel completely at ease. His professionalism, warmth, and deep knowledge added a personal touch that made the experience truly memorable. Service was fairly attentive - there was only one slight hiccup with one entree not coming out until around 5 minutes after everyone's dish so we had to wait. Pretty good selection of signature cocktails. The Liquid Gold was refreshing and not that strong. As for the food, we got the tartare, crab empanada, bungalow Benedict, and the phyllo crusted pork chop. The tartare was fresh and not fishy at all, but was missing some salt. Crab empanada was great. The cilantro avocado puree and aioli complemented the crab well. Eggs Benedict was standard. It was nice that it came with a model bakery English muffin, but nothing stood out. Pork chop was fried very well. Crispy exterior but soft inside. It was a pretty hefty cut as well. I expected more from the taverna fries but it seemed like standard frozen fries. The chimichurri sauce was good but had an aioli texture, which was weird but still good taste wise. To end, the butterscotch budino was fairly light and had a good sweetness. All in all, the lunch was still enjoyable especially with the view. I do wish there was that wow factor in some of the dishes to better match the price.

Dining here is not just about eating sushi -- it's about how the food is prepared, presented, and served. That philosophy is clearly shared by his entire staff. The quality of the fish is consistently excellent. We usually order from the "today's specials" written on the whiteboard, and today's bluefin tuna was genuinely toro grade. At many other sushi restaurants, the same quality would easily cost twice as much. Samurai offers exceptional, opportunity-grade sushi at prices that are surprisingly wallet-friendly.
