Ever since it opened, I've been wanting to try Sandrino, but the timing never quite worked out.... until this past weekend! Not sure if I caught them on a bad day, if quality has declined, or whether the reviews are misleading, but my experience was disappointing. Wanting to give a Caledonia Street restaurant some business, I forewent the lines at Joinery and sauntered over to make my choice - Sandrino, Arawan, or Sartaj. Having tried the latter two, Sandrino it was! Cue anticipation. Ordering what apparently is a "favorite", I sat down to enjoy the aptly named Sausalito pizza and a salad. While the insalata mista was fine, the pizza was a letdown. Featuring a crunchy yet bland crust, and very poorly distributed and undercooked toppings, the first slice had its toppings slide right off. Not a great start. Biting into the slice, my internal smile turned to a grimace as I rapidly realized this is the quality of pizza one can get anywhere in the country. The rest of my bites confirmed this unfortunate reality. Sandrino is simply not even in the same league as the great pizzas of Marin (PizzaHacker, Oliver's, Fratm, Picco, et al.) or even Fieldwork. Oh well, I'm glad I finally gave Sandrino a shot. read more

I love this place! We came at 6:45 on a Saturday and were pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to grab a table. The food was wonderful, from the salad to the pizza to the dessert. The atmosphere is warm and homey, with family photos lining the walls that show just how much love and care goes into both the space and the food. A local at the next table mentioned that this is mostly a neighborhood spot, and we definitely felt like we stumbled onto something special! I'll definitely be back! read more

We enjoyed a delicious lunch here today for my birthday! We found a nice spot outdoors with shade. The Greco pizza was divine- thin & crispy crust & the filling was bursting with flavor. Their Caesar salad was perfect- the green were so very fresh and the dressing not too heavy. I enjoyed a delicious affogato for dessert. I would've loved to have given this great spot five stars however we found it challenging to communicate with our server who spoke little to no English. Every question we asked her she shrugged her shoulders and said she didn't know. as good as I remember I came here first 7 years ago and just revisited today and have to say, their pizza is as good as I remember. they make their pizzas right in front of you and it is served hot right out of the oven. we tried the romeo, trentina, and bufalina. the trentina was my fav. my main critiques of the pizza is 1) the lack of undercarriage - wish the pizza had a little more integrity as the toppings fall off the slice as you pull it off the tray and 2) the price - it is a bit pricey (not to mention the extra 10% service charge). the interior is small, but feels warm and homey, overall, it was great to revisit this spot - a true gem in Sausalito read more

Great location. Very cozy interior. Nice staff. Chill atmosphere. And most importantly- delicious food! The pizza was piping hot and had great flavor and texture. I like that it wasn't too salty. The cannelloni was great. I was surprised by the almond flavor of the panacotta (and realized that I much prefer vanilla instead), but it was interesting and had a lovely texture. My son ate the bite of coffee sauce on top, thinking it was a sugar reduction- so he ate all ox the very creamy and delicious vanilla bean gelato instead. Sandrino is a very cute Italian spot that makes you feel that in your mother's kitchen. The servers were welcoming and answered our questions regarding the menu. For our party of 4, we ordered the Truffle Caciotta pizza and the Mozzarella Speck appetizer and it was enough to share! The Mozzarella Speck was delicious and I highly recommend. The server was very sweet and brought us two extra pieces of bread for our party. The bread was warm and I liked using it to soak up the remaining sauce on the plate. The Truffle Caciotta had a nice truffle flavor that was not overpowering. The pizza crust had a nice chew and was a solid pizza overall. Very quaint family run place with lots of photos of loyal patrons scattered around. The place inside is intimate and small and the owners are very nice and make you feel welcome like family. The pizzas are over $20 each some are near $30 and they are thin crust style. I ordered the rustic because I love potato on my pizza. My favorite dish was the burrata with the red peppers, delicious! It can be kind of expensive if you have a bigger group and order multiple items we paid about $70 each for a party of 6 people. Overall nice experience good food and you're supporting a local business that you can tell the customers really cherish. The owners hug and embrace everyone. read more

In town for a month, and we have tried many places in and near. This is the BEST. Hands down. Come here. Plan your trip out west to come here. cross the bridge and come here! Many of the locals we talked to recommended this as their favorite and it was certainly ours from this trip! We loved outside seating, staff was friendly and so attentive and the owner / chef served us, talked with us, recommended options and engaged with us in a meaningful way! A "5+" for service for sure! And the food. The Gnocchi with sage and brown butter, nothing like I have had before, and the spinach and ricotta filling cannelloni was worth going back and having again. The best pizza outside of Italy, hands-down! I love this restaurant so much and whenever family or friends visit, I bring them here and they fall in love too. The food is consistently delicious and I crave it all the time. I have my favorite menu items but there are often amazing specials not on the menu. The owners and staff are so charming, kind, and attentive and you feel like you are being served by family when dining there. The wine is exceptional and all Italian and if you don't know what you want the owners or staff will guide you on their favorites. The environment is cute, charming, and friendly- the type of place you could easily make friends with other diners and where the owners take the time to get to know you. My friend and I decided to head to do a vodka tasting in Sausalito and while we were doing a tasting, we started chatting with the bartender and another (local) patron and asked them for food recommendations. Without hesitations, this was the first place they recommended, and after listing a few more, they reiterated that if Sandrino was open, we had to go! Fast forward a quick 10 minute walk in the rain and we found Sandrino, a really cute homey place, with a wife/husband super duo running the kitchen. I'll get to the food, which was amazing, but the service and just how nice and homey this place feels gets a 6 out of 5. They told us about the restaurant and where they were from and it was just a nice chat that made this place feel all the more authentic. *Burrata salad - apparently the burrata gets flown in! It's served with bread that they owners make every morning! It was all delicious. *Bufalina - my friend is a vegetarian, so we each got our own pizzas, and she says hers was great! *Valtelina - this pizza was bomb! It had bresaola, which I've never had before, but now must go and hunt down because this was delicious! I loved that this pizza had artichoke on it, which made it unique and yummy! *We finished with tiramisu, which the owner also makes daily! The pizzas are definitely big enough for 2, so I had pizza for dinner that night too (not complaining!). My only regret is that we didn't get to try their lasagna, which we were told, is amazing! We had two pizzas, both were fairly average. The crust here is crunchier than you would expect. Prices are somewhat above average for this style of pizza, $21 for a margarita, $27 for a sausage & mushroom pizza. The Brushetta Tartufo appetizer and the Tiramisu were very good. What was really disappointing though, is the 10% fee that is being charged to customers to pay for employee health insurance. I dine out a lot in the bay area, and this is by far the largest restaurant imposed fee that I have seen thus far. While I commend the business owner for trying to get their employees benefits, offloading the cost to customers in this way is really not acceptable. read more

Had a wonderful lunch here. Came at noon on a Saturday and was seated immediately. It seems it's been a slow summer for them. Got the Tirolese salad, which was recommended by Monika, our server and the restaurant owner. It was a wonderful, hearty salad with dumplings and bread, so quite filling and comforting for a salad. Got the bruschetta which was also delicious with prosciutto, burrata and truffle. Finally got the Trentina which was a sausage and mushroom pizza, and it was also delicious. Website gives one price 20.00 for a pepperoni pizza and when i picked it up it was 22.50 added porcini mushrooms 7.00 (no idea of the cost figured (3.00) THEN they charge 10% for employee healthcare? 3.75 Out the door at 35.75! Includes tax for to go food. 12" pizza that i thought would be maybe 25.00 at the most. Not happy and it was not that great for takeout. Usually a 4.5 star rating with over 500 reviews screams THIS PLACE IS AMAZING!!, however I wasn't impressed at all. In fact, I was pretty disappointed. The gnocchi comes uniquely shaped into these little discs, but it's honestly more of a novelty. The texture was strangely powdery and unusual, kinda like eating play doh with raw flour kneaded into it. Also, the seasoning / sauce literally just tasted like melted salted butter. Sadly boring. Next, the Margherita pizza. The crust was super thin and crispy which isn't my personal preference, but it was also overly salted. The toppings itself don't provide much flavor and I wonder why they don't add basil? Without it, this pizza is pretty darn bland (unless you consider the salty crust to be a flavor). I ordered the Peperonata con Burrata as an appetizer and the Sausalito pizza. The pizza was really good, but the Peperonata con Burrata was incredible. It was the best burrata dish I've ever had in my life and I stand by that. The bell peppers were nice and roasted, the burrata was warm, and everything mingled beautifully on the bread they give. I was honestly so surprised by the portions because the appetizer was basically enough to be a stand alone meal. I still think about this dish a lot. It was an interesting juxtaposition, the family-friendly aesthetic of the restaurant and the warmth of the servers, with the high quality food that I'd expect from a fancier restaurant. Wowww what a stellar first experience here! Came to Sandrino at the rec of a friend and were seated promptly outdoors. Beautiful area. The owner came to introduce herself and hand out menus and inform us of the daily specials, and immediately we felt welcomed and special and at home (and also built a lot of trust and confidence in the authenticity of the cuisine). It was a warm day so outdoors was perfect. The Caprese salad ($15) I ordered was scrumptious, a great pairing with the gnocchi ($18-21?) which was a different style than I expected (usually expect the little potato dumplings, but this is more polenta-style) but extremely delicious! The salad also came with fresh baked focaccia(?) bread and that was amazing. I wish so hard that I had room for the tiramisu but it was such a filling meal that I'll have to come back for it next time. The restaurant is at least two $$ signs, but for the incredible food and the warm and hospitable service and the tailored recommendations -- absolutely worth every penny. All of their pizzas are made in their oven and the sauces are all homemade. The owners are very sweet which makes this place feel welcoming! There is not a lot of space inside so do come prepared to sit outside or wait. Come with layers because Sausalito nights are chilly and they do not have outdoor heaters (I wish they did). read more

I found this restaurant randomly as I was looking up places in Sausalito and wow am I glad I did; Sandrino is such a gem! Eating here felt like being transported back to Italy, both in the ambience of the restaurant and the quality of the food. We came on a Friday afternoon around lunchtime and were able to get seated right away, although it started filling up almost immediately so I think we had good timing. We were greeted by the owner upon entering, who was very friendly. He noticed my friends and I were from Hawaii (from our IDs) and told us about how they visited Oahu before and actually wanted to open a restaurant there. I hope someday those plans to open a restaurant in Hawaii become a reality because I would love to eat here again. We started with the focaccia bread, which he explained was baked daily in their kitchen. The bread was so soft and every bite had more and more flavor, hands down the best focaccia bread I've ever had. We then moved onto the lasagna, which was cooked perfectly and tasted homemade. But the real winner were the pizzas. We ordered the Bufalina pizza and the Trentina. Whenever I eat pizza, the two things I look for are the crust and the sauce. Both were perfect - the crust was crispy but not too thin, and there was just the right amount of sauce, which was also very tasty. The ingredients tasted very fresh and you could just tell everything was homemade. My favorite was definitely the Bufalina (mainly because I love cherry tomatoes), but both were so good. These pizzas are comparable to ones I've had in Italy, so they're an absolute must-try if you visit the restaurant. It's been over a week since I visited Sandrino and I haven't stopped thinking about those pizzas! I'll be sure to visit Sausalito again just so I can come back here. read more

I just left, and I can proudly say that it is not only my favorite, but by far one of the greatest restaurants I can recommend.
