Ever since it opened, I've been wanting to try Sandrino, but the timing never quite worked out…read more... until this past weekend! Not sure if I caught them on a bad day, if quality has declined, or whether the reviews are misleading, but my experience was disappointing. Wanting to give a Caledonia Street restaurant some business, I forewent the lines at Joinery and sauntered over to make my choice - Sandrino, Arawan, or Sartaj. Having tried the latter two, Sandrino it was! Cue anticipation. Ordering what apparently is a "favorite", I sat down to enjoy the aptly named Sausalito pizza and a salad. While the insalata mista was fine, the pizza was a letdown. Featuring a crunchy yet bland crust, and very poorly distributed and undercooked toppings, the first slice had its toppings slide right off. Not a great start. Biting into the slice, my internal smile turned to a grimace as I rapidly realized this is the quality of pizza one can get anywhere in the country. The rest of my bites confirmed this unfortunate reality. Sandrino is simply not even in the same league as the great pizzas of Marin (PizzaHacker, Oliver's, Fratm, Picco, et al.) or even Fieldwork. Oh well, I'm glad I finally gave Sandrino a shot.

Kids and dogs welcome. Drinks- full bar and lots of fun cocktails. Good selection of mocktails too. Food- we got chips. Brussels sprouts. Calamari. And artichokes. All were pretty standard appetizers. Service- everyone we interacted with was friendly and helpful.

After all was done the server who wasn't very attentive and every time called upon asked us to wait had the audacity to ask for more tip since the tip paid was not enuf for him. When did this become such a huge mandate that it's not enuf when service was bad. The manager was equally showing attitude to the guests and I observed our server was asking for more tip from guest who were of different color. On top of that they charge 3% for living wages (why should I pay for it). Never expected this from Bar Bocce! You lost one customer for good. Warm sun, salty breeze, that glittering bay doing its thing. We stepped off the boat and walked straight into a small handmade vendor fair, plus an unofficial dog parade. Golden retrievers, tiny fluff balls, chill older pups all living their best lives. After wandering through the booths and poking around the cute little shops, we started the serious business of finding food and drinks that were dog friendly. Venice Gourmet basically made the decision for us. The harbor view alone is worth sitting down for but the charcuterie and champagne sealed it. We grabbed a table outside, ordered a spread, and just slowed down for a minute. Good snacks, good bubbles, boats drifting by, and great company. Easy day trip. Easy win. Would absolutely come back.

You need to order yourself first at the counter and then they will call your number and then you can get your food from the counter and take it to your table. They have tables inside and outside. From either location, you can get a view of the water. The bread was delicious and freshly made. This is a great location for a quick lunch.

She also kindly corrected us when we ordered spaghetti and pizza for the kids; we almost ordered the full adult portions of those items until she clarified if we wanted the kids' spaghetti and kids' pizza which are actually way better proportioned for kiddos. The food was delicious like I remembered. I ordered the moules marinières (the same as last time) and was happy I did. Mussels were good-sized and nicely steamed, the broth was excellent... just wish they'd provided more than one slice of bread with the dish because there was a lot of good sauce left to soak it up. My friend had the oeuf à la coque and loved it, especially the truffle butter. The one downside was that we had no silverware or napkins at the table. The waiter did not notice, nor did we until we went to start eating and had to get his attention to bring us settings. The drinks were another story. I ordered a non-alcoholic wine and after waiting some time, was told they didn't have it. I was offered to see the drink menu again and the waiter said he'd bring it right to me but must have gotten sidetracked because he forgot, and I had to flag him down. I decided on a vodka flight since the vodkas are distilled and bottled by the owners and thought it was worth a try... the French wheat, Espelette chili, and Williams pear. Food arrived before the drinks did. The waiter came back and asked me again what vodkas I had ordered. When the flight finally showed up I'm pretty sure all three were the Espelette chili despite me ordering three different ones. It wasn't worth the time to confirm as we had to catch the ferry back to San Francisco, but noted here as it was disappointing. Little cards naming each vodka would be a nice touch... though it wouldn't have helped much in my case. Also, a proper tasting set instead of three loose glasses would help too. Hopefully this was just a one-off. Still a cute spot worth stopping at if you're spending time in Sausalito.
