Sweet Ginger is a really cute restaurant tucked away in the neighborhoods of Sausalito. It's one block off the Main Street but the restaurant itself has a really cute ambience and interior decoration. The staff and service are really really kind and the price point is so affordable. The sushi was so good. We ordered the Caledonia roll and all the ingredients tasted so flavorful and fresh. The salmon was also really fresh but could've had a little bit more flavor in the soba noodles and salmon. The sauce for the salmon was really good however. Definitely recommend giving this place a try! read more

This place is really good, I was really friendly staff. They let us get a table for dinner 15 minutes before opening, and even allow us to use the employees only restroom. The sushi was good, I ordered the traditional spicy tuna roll, lion king role, and another specialty role. The flavor was great, the fish was fresh, my one complaint is that the sushi sizes were on the smaller side. For the price of each roll, I would've hoped they would be a bit bigger and more filling. If I could leave zero stars I would, but unfortunately that's not an option. The portion sizes are extremely small. The only salmon option on the menu was a salmon skin roll or a Sashi taster, you cannot call yourself a sushi restaurant with only having two salmon options. The portion sizes were so small I got home and had to cook other food in order to feel full. I wanted to give this place a try but I will never order from them again. First, I ordered a poke bowl and when I got home and took it out of the bag, it was a pile of tuna and that is it. No rice, no veggies, nothing. I ordered two of the Salmon sashimi samplers since that was the one sushi item that had salmon and it consisted of 5 pieces of salmon that were identical. They didn't get the idea of a sampler. I also ordered two seaweed salads that weren't in my bag when I got home. I called to request reimbursement for the seaweed salads but was told they don't have my credit card and insisted I ordered through a third party. The woman on the phone argued that she couldn't refund me and said instead that when I come in again, she would take care of me. I will never go back and will recommend against anyone going there. Sweet Ginger is that place about which my friend and I both said "yeah, I've been there before... but I don't really remember it". Despite a pleasant ambiance, a location away from Sausalito's crowds, and relatively easy street parking there's nothing here to rave about. Nor is there anything much to complain of. They'll fill your stomach unremarkably and inoffensively at what, in these parts, we will call a reasonable price. Edamame ($4) was a bit salty. Cucumber Salad ($5.75) looked pretty and tasted okay but I'd probably not order it again. Salmon Skin Maki ($5.50) and Spicy Tuna Maki ($6.75) went down easily but neither inspired any claims of greatness. Atlantic Salmon Soba ($17) was consumed without anything other than the comment "it looks different than I thought it would". And they charge for Green Tea ($1.50 per), grrr... Sweet Ginger was quiet and serene early on a Sunday evening which made it a good place to chat and linger but I'll not be rushing back and this review will serve as a reminder of why. But hey, at least I only waited in person for 30 minutes for simple rolls (cucumber roll, tekka maki) that were comically inept and fell apart. I have been going to this restaurant for years but due to Covid have had to order online. I love the couple that own it but they definitely need to hire A new delivery crew. Ordered from Grubhub where I left the tip in the app. I got a call from the driver asking how I was going to pay the tip. I explained I did not have cash which is why I ordered online. He proceeded to argue and then sat on my porch to get me to come outside. Completely unprofessional. If there was a discrepancy with Grubhub then I believe the restaurant should handle that, not the driver. I contacted Grubhub and they canceled the order. I hate writing negative reviews but I think you need to be warned... while the food is decent the service is HORRIBLE and the staff is just rude. I placed an order on Google from their website and they said it would take 40 mins. I got confirmations and updates via email and texts. I arrived at Sweet Ginger on time. When I walked in the door I said I was there for a pickup and the gentleman asked my name of which I told him. He said "I don't have your order" and I showed him my confirmation and he repeated "I don't have your order" in a very angry tone. I said, "well what want we do"?! He basically threw a menu at me and said "order". A few seconds later a woman came over and talked to him and they magically found my order but told me that they just got it and it would take 20 to 25 mins to make. There were 2 people in the restaurant at the time and I asked since I have already been waiting 40 mins if they could make it sooner and he said "No". There was no accommodation or apology - he acted like it was my fault that they did not get the order. He just told me to wait at a chair or outside. I was flabbergasted. He could have totally turned the whole situation around as I know things happen with technology. He could have apologized and said he would prioritize my order or at the very least offer me a glass of water or SOMETHING to make my wait a bit more pleasant. But no. I also watched someone come into the restaurant while I was there for another pickup and NO ONE acknowledged him for over 6 mins! It was crazy. They saw him but didn't even say "hello". I was shocked. While I know restaurants are struggling there is absolutely NO excuse for rudeness. There's Sushi Ran down the road. If you head that way you will return with a hole in your wallet. If on the other hand you just really want some sushi (always fresh) without breaking the bank, walk on over to Sweet Ginger. Hold your head up and strut like a peacock if you must.There's nothing to be shy about. I think the joint is family owned. The sushi chef works efficiently and tirelessly. Somehow he manages to always smile. My Japanese is nil but I always bow when I enter and leave. He returns the exchange quiet amicably. Last night we had the Rainbow Roll in addition to the usual suspects: California, Caledonia, spicy tuna, sea weed salad and miso. I should backtrack and say "last night we inhaled" the sushi. Which is more accurate since that's what happened. There was a cop on a date sitting behind us. He arrived with his date by way of squad car. Not a bad way to pick up someone for dinner (as long as you're not being arrested afterwards). We come here every 7-10 days. The pricing is reasonable but the portions are quite small. The udon noodle soup was average at best, but the sushi rolls were good.
