Sakura delivers excellence every time. We came here before a concert and it hit the spot. I ordered the chicken hibachi with mushroom appetizer which also comes with soup and salad. The soup is basically a chicken broth with a few mushrooms. The salad has a ginger dressing and is very good. If you order a hibachi entree you also get a choice of appetizer like mushrooms, shrimp, or chicken livers. They also offer sushi made to order. If you do not want to sit at a hibachi seat as they have a separate dining area if your prefer. The portions are very large and cooked to perfection. There is ample parking directly out front and is right off route 7. read more

My first time at Sakura was absolutely memorable. I had a lunch date planned and arrived early....so I waited at the bar and ordered Snow Beauty Saki and an order of Shumai. Nothing tasted better at that moment than the combination of flavors. The Saki was unfiltered and creamy...what a treat! The shumai was juicy and firm, absolutely perfect. The wonderful woman working around the bar area saw me sipping on my Saki and offered me a sample of Yuzu Omoi Saki which tasted like fresh lemonade. She also let me try both a pear and an apple Saki which were so yummy. I would love to come back and try all of the others. I ordered a bottle of sparking Sho Chiku Bai...which maybe was my favorite of all. This was the champagne of Saki. After my Saki adventure, I had a fantastic hibachi lunch of scallops and rice. Everything was perfectly cooked by a talented and fast chef. By the time I left I was full (with plenty of leftovers) and had quite the saki smile on my face. Thanks Sakura! I truly hate giving bad reviews and hope that at some point I can update with A better rating. I've dined at multiple Sakuras in the Northern Virginia area and this evening walked in to the McLean location for one of my worst experiences ever. I've never felt so belittled in 5 minutes. After going online and searching Yelp I see that they're open to 10pm so while in the area why not stop through. I open the door and am greeted by a little saying " can I help you with something" my response is yes dinner for 1 she says oh we're closed. I reply well online I saw 10 she then goes on to tell me Yelp is wrong and throws a menu at me and says use this next time ( the menu has the phone number) I proceed to ask to speak to a manager assuming they could update hours so another diner doesn't have this experience and she goes oh im the manager. As Sakura being a family staple for me and family members from birthdays to just casual dinners I couldn't believe she speaks to guest this way. I will drive to the Woodbridge location going forward and spend my money where I feel welcomed read more

Made reservations for 6:30pm. Finally got seated at 7pm. It's almost 8pm and no cook in sight! You would think with such poor service they'd provide free drinks, appetizers.... Oh no! Best hibachi in NOVA! They always have the freshest vegetables, meat, and amazing chefs!

On 4 May, I went with a group of 14 and out of our group, 12 ended up with food poisoning within a couple hours of eating here. We were able to narrow it down to the hibachi rice. Seeing other reviews online and how they've been cited for improperly storing rice multiple times, there's no way I would go back here as they apparently aren't listening to the health inspectors. Another note: we had lunch here and called the restaurant to alert them of the food poisoning before dinner service. They apparently opened for dinner because we found another online review of a man and his fiancée had gotten food poisoning that evening. The restaurant obviously doesn't seem to think they have a good safety problem yet they do. read more

Ive been coming to Sakura for the past 5 years and this place has always met my expectations, sometimes exceeding them. There is typically no wait time even on Friday and Saturday nights. The only annoying part is sitting with different parties while at the hibachi station. The food itself comes out in waves depending on what you order. An order always comes with soup and salad before the appetizers come. I'd recommend getting the chicken liver as an appetizer and any of the delicious other options as a main course. The cook himself is very personable and easy to talk to providing some entertaining traditions found at Sakura. At the end of the show he saves a few shrimp pieces and expects you to catch it with your mouth. I'd definitely recommend for a birthday party or a large group of friends for an eventful dinner! Tired of Manhattan Pizza, tired of Panera Bread, and tired of American food, I decided to something new. Enter Sakura' s Japanese Steak, seafood and sushi bar. How many times do I pass by this place with in the past month? To be perfectly honest?!, a lot. I decided I wanted try some Japanese style food, and sushi was on my mind. The shrimp tempura is what I wanted. Walking into the restaurant I saw it was much bigger than i had imagined. I saw the sushi bar on the far right and a full bar to my left. The manager greeted me since one of the hostess were on the phone. Upon seeing the menu, I went with the shrimp tempura roll. Looking around I saw farther down the hall there is a bigger dining room area. I saw women in Japanese kimonos. They looked like a lighter material kimono than the normal ones I have seen. I asked one of the ladies...Suki I think her name was if I could get her photo for the restaurant review. Suki seemed happy to obliged the request. I saw that the ladies bathroom had a kabuki mask on the door, but the men's bathroom did not. I like the wall designs for the mirrors in the men bathroom. It left me wondering what designs are in thd ladies bathroom. Just before I left with my order, I got a closer look at the back room. Chefs can cook your food right in front of you if you request this service or get a table that offers this attraction. The shrimp tempura was delicious. I will have to get to orders next time, because one was not enough. Hard to believe it took me this long to come here. I am glad I did. read more

Really good food, great attentive servers and excellent chefs. I've never had a bad meal here and never left hungry!!! Truly delicious hibachi and excellent sushi! Went for lunch today and told the hostess I would wait 15 minutes to see if others showed up so the chef wouldn't have to cook for one person. Even though no one came, they prepared food for just one person and were happy to do so. This restaurant can get busy at dinner time, even during the week, but expect to wait for a table at a prime dinner hour on weekends and holidays. Love this place and will help coming back again and again. Highly recommend a visit!!!! read more

HIBACHI - We had an absolutely wonderful and entertaining time with friends at the hibachi grills. Our chef (Taka), was extremely talented and funny, cracking eggs in the air, as well as cracking jokes left and right. He was very entertaining. Although he didn't always have robotic precision, he performed melodic mastery of his cooking skills. He peppered and grilled our food, we peppered and grilled him with questions. He was very engaging, flipping everything from shrimp and eggs to his cooking utensils in the air. We were shocked that he even squirted his sauce bottle at us, although there was a catch that I won't ruin. You'll just have to see for yourself. For habachi, I can totally recommend Sakura a great place to come. For the chef, I can totally recommend Taka. read more

This is an okay hibachi place - very popular for the Vienna locals. My husband and I always order the Filet Mignon; even though the size is pretty small and the quality of the meat is okay, the food overall is pretty okay. We get to choose the 'appetizer' which we always stick to the Shrimp Flambe; it comes with a salad with miso dressing, mushroom soup (I'm not much of a fan of as it's really watery), fried rice (extra), and sauteed vegetables. I stick to the yum-yum sauce only, and it's creamy and thick, but slightly tangy. RUSHED. The food was good, the chef was nice. We go to hibachi places often so I know it's not for long lingering meals, but this was nuts. Order the second you sit down with the "salad and soup" in front of you three seconds later. Eat it quick because they immediately show up to grab it away. Once they are done cooking you have maybe five minutes before they hand you a box. Even if they are half empty they basically chase you out. Also, I ordered shrimp and they were not cleaned. I can only speak to one half of Sakura so far. The sushi half of the restaurant (the front room), although nearly empty when I visited, serves good sushi and tempura. There weren't really standouts to me, but I enjoyed my meal overall. The serving sizes were relatively large, the prices were okay, and the restaurant was staffed by friendly, efficient people. Sakura is a restaurant people go to for the experience not so much for the food. The restaurant offers an extensive menu that includes sushi and the popular hibachi items. If you go to this restaurant, I'd recommend going for the hibachi experience because you can pretty much get the food somewhere else for cheaper and better. Sakura, overall, offers a good cooking show! For the appetizer, I got the seaweed salad. This salad is pretty tasty and the texture is just right. Seaweed salad at restaurants tend to be too crunchy or too texture-less; however, Sakura has the perfect seaweed salad. It's super savory and fresh. In addition, I got to try a few pieces of sushi. The sushi here is pretty tasty- it's some of the better items on the menu for sure. I'd recommend the Sakura Deluxe platter. You get to sample a bit of everything! As for the main course, I got the filet mignon and scallop combination which came with fried rice and zucchini. To be honest, most of the dish was flavorless. The food could be better seasoned. It seems like they just dump a ton of butter on it, spritz some soy sauce on it, and then call it a day. The dish has a lot of potential, but it ultimately falls short. Overall, come here if you want a hibachi cooking show experience! If you don't care much for the show, think twice before coming. read more

We celebrated our daughter's birthday at Sakura because it seemed like a fun thing to do. It was an epic mistake. The "chef" Chris was terrible. He started out scolding us because my brother told him he is allergic to shrimp and asked if he could cook his steak separately. The waitress was impatient and kept urging us to order quicker. The food was average at best. We ordered the most expensive things on the menu (fillet mignon, ribeye, shrimp, scallops) and everything was over cooked and flavorless (you can only taste soy sauce). Problem is that the hibachi chefs are usually low energy and don't cater to the patrons. They go thru the motions, but the energy isn't their. It's like they bang on the grill with the smoking onions (which is usually symbolic of a train) without even trying. It's just a pile of smoking onions with a metal spatula being banged on a grill. I am a regular at Zakura I just forget to check in because I am just ready to eat. I like the experience, the staff is always nice and friendly and the food is amazing. I always order shrimp, Lobster and scallops - yes I love seafood lol I love their combination rice and I get the sautéed mushrooms and the yummy yummy sauce. Try it out the environment is very family oriented, good for large parties and the best part you get to watch your food being cooked. This was my first trip to Sakura as part of a double date with old military buddies. From my experience sitting at the bar, enjoying some sushi as an appetizer, and seated at a cooking table, I give the restaurant an average of three stars. AOK for most things, brilliant at a couple, but wanting in a couple others. Don't let appearances fool you! Tucked away in a sleepy Route 7 strip mall, Sakura is absolutely cavernous inside and tables seem to go on and on for days as you progress inside past the bar and formidable sushi tables into the hibachi area. The seemingly long line in the overflow waiting area up front went by at formidable speed as the tables turned quickly to accommodate everyone. The ambience is welcoming in the front, carnivalesque further back. Bar service was ok once we got someone to make eye contact with us and take our order(- we waited for ten minutes looking expectantly at the ladies behind the bar before being served). Bar was fully stocked with premium offerings and pours were ample (+). The server at our cooking table was fabulous and juggled all our disparate requests with grace. (+) The best part of my experience was the sushi!! Beautiful, fresh cuts of quality tuna and yellow tail were perfectly portioned and melted in my mouth!!(++) Like some of the other Yelpers, the shine has rubbed off hibachi dining for me. I've nothing against a grill table; it's just not as exciting any more--unless, of course, there's a charming, engaging table chef. Sadly, the one we had was just average--not very much fun and a little off-putting at the end. (-) I confess been a while since I've been to a Japanese steakhouse, so while I was expecting the onion volcano and canned egg routine, I don't seem to recall the standard tableside antics involving the chef insisting patrons open their mouths so he can use them as targets--which our grill master did with rubbery-looking pieces of dark-edged, obviously overlooked bits of shrimp. He kept doing it even after it was clear that his aim was a bit off. (-) The filet mignon we ordered was cooked nicely, as was the chicken and shrimp and came with copious amounts of fried rice, onions, zucchini, shrooms, and sprouts(+). Each of us received a steaming cup of Japanese clear soup and an iceberg-based salad dressed in to ginger dressing. All in all, the experience was enjoyable.
