Where to start...probably the worst thing that happened during our recent visit on 07/20/17 was finding flies in my son's chocolate milk. One made it to his mouth via the straw. The other was found after. DISGUSTING! I can only assume it's in the chocolate syrup. Enjoy those chocolate shakes and sundaes! Mmmmm! If finding flies weren't enough, the manager didn't even bother to come by our table to apologize or say anything. Maybe shame got the better of him. The server did apologize, but I think something like this should be addressed by a manager. I saw the server talk with the manager, so I know he knew about it. Maybe he wasn't the manager, you say? Good question. However, I heard a customer walk in and say, "Hello, Dean" to the man. And then when we left, I saw the name of the GENERAL MANAGER was Dean Marriott. Strong work Dean Marriott, General Manager. If the name wasn't on the door, I would probably still be wondering. After all, you weren't wearing anything that identified you as an employee of Ruby's Diner. I only know there is a uniform because when I left you glowing remarks on the Ruby's feedback, it showed a picture of how managers are to dress. Again. you've failed. Maybe you dress incognito because you are ashamed of the condition of your location. That's fair. Duct tape repairs on the seats. Stained ceilings. Flies in food. Heck, I wouldn't want to be identified as someone who worked there...let alone the manager. Excuse me - General Manager. On a positive note, the service was pretty good. Kind of slow, but it appeared that there was only one server working, so I can't fault him. Final thought - This place is disgusting. It needs a major clean-up and makeover. I ordered the breakfast grilled cheese and the 2 eggs & bacon. I thought it was odd that they did not ask me how I wanted the eggs cooked, so I made sure to specify over medium and that I wanted Sourdough toast. Go to pick it up and they gave us a breakfast grilled cheese - with over medium eggs (really? On a sandwhich?) and nothing else. When I asked where the 2 egg breakfast was, the server who took our order said "the eggs are in the sandwhich." I had to get a menu and show the server the menu item for 2 egg breakfast. Then I asked, "why would anyone ask for over medium eggs on a sandwhich? For that matter, why would anyone order toast...with a sandwhich?" Then came the excuses: "It was really loud in here. Its been a long day." Ok, it was 11:10 when I called and even if it was loud, you always repeat the order back. Sadly, this isn't the first time they have screwed up an order. Last time I ordered breakfast for pick up, they didn't give me the bacon I ordered and I had to go back. So this time around, we paid $10 for a slimy, egg yolky sandwich nobody wants to eat. I think this experience has sealed it - Ruby's in Tustin is just not worth the headache. Go to the one in Orange. read more

Pretty standard compared to other Ruby's locations. I will say this place is a bit dated and dilapidated. Every booth seat I've sat in is completely lumpy and at the same time springy in certain spots. The floors are the kind that will feel sticky no matter how much you clean them. However, the staff is super nice and take care of me very well every time and are the reason I keep coming back. The food is on par. It's not bad it's not great but it's consistent comfort food. I fear my beloved Ruby's may be close to "jumping the shark". Prices keep going up, endless french fries have been removed, and frankly....for $17 I can get a phenomenal bacon cheeseburger at a nicer place. I go to this Ruby's every year on my birthday in November! The food is great and the staff is very friendly. I absolutely love the atmosphere as well...the 50's décor, music, and even an old-fashioned toy train that travels around. It made me feel...for a short while...that I was in that time period. I've been here probably a dozen times with my kids and their friends. When they are less than 1/4 full, they're very attentive and the food comes out without a hitch. When it's busy like this last week when it more than 2/3 full on a Wednesday during lunch. the order comes out wrong and it's harried. Servers look stressed and it comes across on their faces. My soup was lukewarm as if it was sitting under the heat lamp for awhile before it came out with the rest of the meal I just want to get out of there! I get it- this isn't fine dining. But it is a fun diner experience. Next time, I'll come during off hours like usual to get the best experience. I came here with a friend after spending the day at the beach and will probably never come back after how we were treated. Our waitress, Emma was so incredibly rude to us. She mostly ignored our table despite being to attentive to everyone else around us. The only time she did stop and ask how everything was she tried running off before we could answer. I ordered a standard Cobb salad but with no mushrooms and the Turkey on the side. The server said no Turkey was on that salad when the menu clearly says it comes with the meal. I didn't feel like arguing so to get that I paid for a huge slice of Turkey on the side. I get home to realize the salad indeed had Turkey included, meaning I paid for something extra I didn't need. Then I realized the salad was missing blue cheese, the quintessential ingredients that make a Cobb salad a Cobb salad. I basically overpaid for nothing more than extra Turkey and a garden side salad. I only go to Ruby's for breakfast, and I've always liked it. I enjoy the train theme of this location, and the fact that it's not overly crowded when I visit in the morning. The corn beef hash and eggs is great. I also enjoy their waffles and their sausage links. The only thing I wish they had is another potato option for breakfast. The Ruby Spuds get a little old after a while. I'd prefer hash browns, and since I am just a one-cup coffee drinker, I can do without paying $3 for a cup of coffee. Easy fix. I've been coming to this Ruby's since forever. I especially like the model train they have running along a track above the right side dining area. Ruby's has always been a favorite of mine...both for the food & the lovely 50's vibe decor. And plenty of parking here in the large lot shared by just a few low profile businesses. Came for breakfast today. The Hotcakes Combo comes with 3 large, thick & fluffy buttermilk pancakes, 2 eggs any style & bacon or sausage. It's a lot of food! The breakfast burrito is also a huge meal! It must weigh 5 pounds...lol! Also comes with 2 hash browns. Occasionally there'll email me about a BOGO deal...which we used today:D When I'm not here for breakfast, I go back & forth from the Classic Ruby burger, and the Turkey Roast Sandwich. I wasn't impressed in this place in the least. They need to check out some East Coast diners to get a clue what a diner is. All they are is a glorified burger joint. It does look nice on the inside with Coke, and railroad decorations. It was very bright. I ordered the BBQ burger, chocolate shake, and iced tea. The burger comes with unlimited fries. The burger wasn't to bad but the BBQ sauce sucked. It was sweet and had a nasty taste like a Big Boy burger. Once served nobody came to my table until long after I was done eating. My tea glass was empty half way through my meal and more fries might have been nice. I sat waiting for then to bring the check. I think they got a clue when I was tapping my credit card on the table. Basically there is no difference in menu at which ever Ruby's you go to, however, there are definitely differences in the service you receive, the way something is prepared and the atmosphere you're dining in. Firstly, I must say, I really liked the layout of this particular Ruby's. Although I didn't think our service was all that great, it was okay. I ordered the skinny breakfast which included 2 eggs, cottage cheese, fruit and wheat toast. I ordered my eggs poached and was very pleased to find them perfectly done upon arrival. Lil guy got the pigs in a blanket and boy were they huge pancakes for a child's breakfast. The sausages were really salty though but he seemed to like them. I also got an order of bacon to share. All in all, I thought the breakfast was good, I really liked the place, if only the service was better, it would be 5 stars. No one came to refill my water, but when I asked it was refilled promptly. I would like to start off saying the staff here are sweet and really worked hard despite seemingly being understaffed. Our server was wonderful. I can not say the same for the manager running the show. He threw fries down at our table without saying a word and walked off as if we were taking up space (we felt a twinge of racism). We will not be back at this location again because of his bad attitude. Ordered online at Tustin Ruby's (4.5 miles away on side streets). Made the mistake of not checking my order at pickup. They did not include the first item on my order (basket of fries) that was read to me when I picked it up. 3 people where just standing around when I drove all the way back from Irvine. They quickly request some fries from the cook and said here you go. $4.99 for a tiny bag of fries, which should have been a "basket" of fries. I was in shock, so I asked "This is the basket of fries?" The girl said "yes". When I got home and poured them out, the fries that came with each of our burgers were much more than the "basket" of fries that I had gone back to get. The restaurant and staff were nice, and it was clean. That's the two stars. So, I ordered a burger, as it seems to be the main focus of what they serve. The burger was so overcooked, dry as a bone, and charred. I've had many better burgers at fast food places. The fries were good, but it is difficult to ruin those. I couldn't finish the burger and took it with me. My daughter asked if she could finish it took one bite, and said, "it's burnt" and wouldn't eat anymore. My husband also ordered a burger with the same charred,, burnt result. For almost $15, it should have been way better. Save some cash and go to Wendy's. We will next time. read more

Much better food, the best shakes in town, friendly and fast service, They turkey club sandwich has nice pieces of turkey, turkey carving style. They have nice portions and delicious parmesan-blue-cheese fries. They have a great breakfast menu and goes till 11:30am, though they have about 4 breakfast items that are all day. The shakes are plentiful, scrumptious, and rich. There are many flavors to choose from and you can combine flavors to create your own. I created a chocolate chip and peanut butter one, it tasted like Peanut Butter Cup. They stick to their diner theme in appearance from inside to out. I always tend to forget about Ruby's... even though I drive by it all the time on my way to the gym, to the cleaners, etc. It's just one of those places that seems to get lost after time cuz it's been there for flippin ever. The good thing is that every time I 'rediscover' it I'm always pleasantly pleased by the reliably good food and service. Is it gonna win any awards? Prolly not. Can you *always* bet on a great burger, sandwich or salad? Always. On my last trip I had the tri-tip sliders which were really tasty -- on a slightly sweet bun with carmelized onions and a tasty au jus sauce on the beef. Paird it with the (upgraded) garlic fries and it made my day. :-) Another key thing is that at least once a month I get a bogo coupon in the local mailer which makes this even more tasty. ;-) PS They also serve breakfast all day -- a little tid bit that I always forget about as I'm one of those breakfast-for-dinner lovers. read more

Food is consistent and decent. Love that they have the Impossible Burger (last I checked). Kids meals have apples or applesauce as options along with fries. The service is always excellent.
