Stopped by Mimi's Café in Tustin for the first time in over a decade--it definitely felt like a blast from the past. The bread basket is now just sourdough, which is still decent and better than many places, but I really missed the old carrot raisin loaf they used to offer for free. Now you have to order these medallions instead, and unfortunately, they just don't compare. We brought the kids along, and while the menu has variety, most of the food had that mass-produced, frozen feel to it. The restaurant was pretty quiet, and it's easy to see why--there's a nostalgic charm, but it seems like it's struggling to keep up. That said, the staff were kind and doing their best. Our server was clearly overworked and looked exhausted, but still managed to be friendly. We left a good tip and wished him well--it's hard not to feel for the people still holding these places together. All in all, a bit of a bittersweet visit. Not terrible, but not what it once was. Unimpressed. Came here for brunch and 2 of the 3 of us did not like it. I had the chicken and waffles and they literally looked like frozen waffles with 2 overcooked and thin chicken patties. Service was excellent. Drinks, not so much. Nonetheless, I'll give it another try to sample their dinner menu. read more

Absolutely horrible organization. My family came here on a sunday with an already-booked reservation. They proceeded to say we had to wait an hour even though we had this reservation. Multiple family's also were told they had to wait over in hour, each having a reservation. I would absolutely not recommend this place and the service and organization is extremely poor. read more

We ordered the 3 course "valentine special"offered by Mimis this weekend to eat at home for lunch on Saturday and were very pleased. The chicken cordon bleu was delicious, as were the mashed potatoes and gravy. The broccoli was cooked to perfection rather than what we typically receive at most places, barely cooked and almost raw. Our salads were good and so were our desserts. The odering online was easy and pickup was uncomplicated. We were thankful for their courtesy to expand their "valentine special" to include all day Friday, saturday, and Sunday which is way more than the typical valentine evening dinner only choice which often doesn't work for everybody. Excellent service ! Our server Santos was extremely friendly and nice . He helps us with our menu and tried his best to explain the menu to my wife. It was a busy morning but he makes sure our food was fast and keeps our coffee cups and full. The menu boasts a variety of traditional American and French dishes which I really like to try . This is the place I have gone to with my elders for the past 30 years. Vaguely French with a huge menu, plenty of seating, and attentive service, it's a comfortable casual dining spot for multiple generations to gather. I prefer their breakfast fare, which is served all day. Whether you want an omelet, french toast, quiche, or a giant muffin, these are all fine selections. I have also enjoyed their soups. While you are waiting for your food, you will get a basket of toasted baguette slices and butter. They could probably stand to narrow down their menu and play French music to improve upon the ambiance, but honestly what they do works well enough. It's a great alternative to any big diner chain. The ambiance is intimate and low lighting with no over loud music preventing you from chatting. All drinks here were great! I appreciated their fun take on a shot menu. If you're celebrating a birthday you get a birthday shot of your choice! Food and service also did not disappoint. Looking forward to coming back!

The figs were tasty, but the duck was disappointing to most of us. Someone had the Scottish salmon and said it was delicious. The steak was also good and cooked perfectly. Our waiter was very kind, and brought us desserts since our duck was not up to par. The chocolate cake and rice pudding were both delicious and I highly recommend either if you crave something sweet. The service was excellent for our large group. I would definitely come back and like to try other items on the menu.

And I truly believe that they are not really made out to be a full-service restaurant as much as I like their dedication and drive. I had a reservation at 7 pm. I checked in at 6:45 pm. At 7:25 pm, they brought us in and did not have a table ready for us. They made a table then after a table left 15 minutes later, they rearranged us. I do not understand why you offer reservations if you will not actually honor the system. Around 8 pm, we asked if we could order as they had only brought water. Listen I understand. You're closing soon. You only had 1 server for the entire restaurant the weekend of Valentines. You have to go lean on the busiest last weekend ..? I don't actually understand. When all came to, they were not offering dessert because "they were saving it for Valentine's Day". No notification about when their kitchen closed and no asks if anybody wanted to order for to-go. On top of that, everyone did not have free parking and had to pay upon exit even with validation. You will do great as a ghost kitchen since the food was good and everyone enjoyed it. If you come back as a full service, I would seriously reconsider how you do business.
