She was extremely personable, knew the menu like the back of her hand and she kept our drinks FILLED without us having to ask. She was on top of it. We had a couple questions about the menu, but we went with what was really popular. -Boeuf Bourguignon Classic beef stew, carrots, pearl onions, mushrooms and tagliatelle pasta. -Le Burger Français Homemade sesame brioche bun, Angus beef patty, raclette cheese, tomato, lettuce caramelized onions and Dijon aioli (I got it with no onion or tomato) You can also add bacon for a price. (I did not. But sometimes I'm in the mood for a good bacon burger) -the burger came with fries -we also got bread to start with which was freshly baked and comes with French butter. The French butter was absolutely delicious. It was so fresh. Tip- they sell the French butter next door at moulin The atmosphere was really cute. We ordered the Cuisses de Grenouilles (fried frog legs), Escargots, Frits, Terrine de Campagne, French onion soup and a glass of rosé to wet our whistles. Our experience started off on a promising note when our waitress thoughtfully asked if we wanted our dishes coursed out. We were impressed by the attention to detail and thought we were in for a wonderful dining experience. Unfortunately, things went downhill from there. Shortly after taking our order, our waitress seemingly disappeared. The Terrine de Campagne arrived first, and while it was absolutely delicious, it came with only three tiny pieces of crostini, which was nowhere near enough for the amount of pâté served. Our rosé never arrived, so we had to flag down another waitress to inquire about it. Rather than checking our order, she asked us what we had ordered. Although the food was delicious, the service was incredibly disappointing. Our waitress never once checked on us to see how we were enjoying our meal or whether we needed anything. Throughout the entire dining experience, we repeatedly had to flag her down for even the simplest requests. It's unfortunate because the kitchen clearly knows what it's doing, but the lack of attentive service really overshadowed what could have been an excellent meal. First time dining at Bouillon and the food was really delicious. Service was good. Atmosphere is casual and more like a French bistro style. The only part of dinner I didn't like much is the Bordeaux wine I ordered. French baguette/butter basket was very good, French onion soup was amazing, and the steak au poivre was cooked perfectly and very delicious. Besides the wine I would order all of these again. Dessert: chocolate soufflé, it was very good but I think we were too full from the dinner to be able to really enjoy this very rich dessert. Bouillon Moulin looked very promising in its reviews and photos. We were very excited to enjoy a weekend lunch after seeing the menu online. There were plenty of tables available when we walked in on a Sunday and were seated immediately. Wanting to try a few things, our party of four ordered: * Corbeille Pain et Beurre Francais $5 - Who doesn't love French butter? 4/5 * Le Steak Tartare $23 + egg yolk $2 - One of the main reasons we came and their version was not exciting. 3/5 * Ratatouille $8 - Again, their version was just okay. It's more of a stew and a tomato-heavy one. 3/5 * Escargots $14 - We always love escargot, but definitely needed more bread to enjoy all the butter. Do note that their version has almond and hazelnut in their butter. We did end up ordering another one. 4/5 * Terrine de Campagne $12 - The duck and pork pate was just okay again. 3/5 * Tartare de Saumon $17 - This dish was simply salmon, avocado and mayo and reminded us of something we would get at a Japanese restaurant. 3/5 Overall, we were just underwhelmed by the whole experience - from the food and the service. It is open and colorful. The waiter greeted us warmly with his French accent. The menu is simple with all your favorites. The food is exceptional. We had the Duck and beef stew. Before the meal came, we enjoyed a baguette and French butter. The meal came and it reminded me of my mother's cooking. She was a gourmet chef who was trained in French cuisine. I don't often find food this good without paying $50 a plate, but this was refreshing. No white table cloths and candles, but the highest quality for a very reasonable price. I've had this restaurant bookmarked for almost a year, so I'm glad we finally made it out for lunch today. Knowing how popular it is for brunch, I made a reservation through Resy, which was easy enough. We arrived around 11:30, and the bakery next door was already packed, with nearly every outdoor table occupied. That pretty much confirmed the raving yelp reviews! The restaurant is charming with that comfortable neighborhood French bistro feel where you can settle in for a leisurely lunch. And a small detail I really appreciated is that the bistro tables have purse hooks on the side. Anyone who has ever tried to figure out where to put a handbag at a tiny café table will understand why this deserves a mention. Since it was our first visit, we decided to order several things and share. Portions turned out to be more generous than I expected. Loup de Mer (sea bass special) was my favorite dish of the meal. The fish had a really nice crisp on the outside, but it didn't taste fried or greasy. Inside, it was still tender. I also liked the mashed potatoes more than I expected; they were light, not overly buttery, and seasoned just enough. Even the zucchini was good, which I usually treat as the vegetable I'm supposed to eat rather than the part I actually want. Ham Benedict was easy to like. The eggs were poached just right, with runny yolks that mixed into the hollandaise once you cut into them. No sad, overcooked egg situation here. The roasted fingerling potatoes were so creamy, so dangerous in the best way. Couscous aux Légumes surprised me in a good way. I honestly didn't expect to like this one as much as I did. The couscous was fluffy, the squash had a nice sweetness to it, and the chickpeas made the whole thing feel more substantial. It didn't come across as the token vegetarian dish on the menu. I kept going back for another bite. Salmon Tartare wasn't buried under a ton of lemon juice. You could still taste the fish, which sounds obvious, but isn't always the case with tartare. The yuzu mayo worked well with it and helped cut through the richness. I did wish the capers came through a little more; I wanted just a bit more saltiness and bite. The toast was spot on, though. Crisp enough to hold everything together, but not so hard that you're fighting with it between bites. By the time we finished, everyone was comfortably full, so dessert will have to wait for another visit. Parking around here is admittedly not the easiest, especially during the weekend lunch rush, but I wouldn't let that stop me. Circle around a little and eventually something opens up. And since we had already resisted dessert at the table, we naturally walked next door afterward and left with macarons and French butter instead. Apparently we need to work on self-control. We went to Moulin for our anniversary! I've been here before many years ago, and wanted to go again! I love the bakery. I made a reservation for 5:30 and the restaurant was fairly empty, but eventually filled up by around 6pm! The vibes inside are like french bistro! The service was great! Our waiter checked in on us the appropriate amount and was very kind! We ordered escargots to start and they were well cooked and buttery! I got the mussels and fries. They gave so many mussels and a lot of fries. The mussels were in a delicious white wine broth. My partner got the steak au poivre and it was cooked extremely well. Super tender! We ended our meal with the profiteroles which we saw seemed to be the star dessert on yelp! It was refreshing and the chocolate seemed to be as if they made it themselves! The beauty of international travel is being able to explore culture through its food. I went on 2.5week trip to France last year and grew a new appreciation for the French cuisine. Once I return to the states, I was always on the lookout for authentic French food which I became a keenly aware pretty quickly is a rare find even in Southern California. I was relieved to stumble upon bouillon in Newport Beach. The name alone says it all and seeing a boulangerie around the corner quickly won my heart. Walking into bouillon felt like walking into cafe in Paris. From the signage, chairs and iron tables I was quickly transported back. Reviewing the menu, I quickly knew I was in the right spot and giggled with excitement. I ordered all my favorite straight away; escargot, steak tartare with frites (you must add the egg yolk!), lyonnaise salad (on the menu it's listed as Salade Frisée aux lardon, lyonnaise is a regional name but I know the ingredients), a bottle of Sancerre, soufflé and two espresso. The meal was fantastic, so elegant, refined but made with simple ingredients you can taste. The service was leisurely and impeccable, the waitress was so knowledgeable and welcoming. Most people in the OC are more familiar with the chain bakery Moulin which serves French quick fair but the star of the show is certainly bouillon. They have a fabulous menu for those that missing truly authentic or for folks interested to try new French meals . Great selection of wines from different French regions that are affordable (in France is not about the price tag but more on the region it grew from). The fiancée and I went here for a date night. The interior is very European bistro vibes. We got the French onion soup, duck confit, and cod. The French onion soup had a great cheese pull and good earth flavors. My favorite was the duck due to the orange essence in the sauce and vegetables. I would definitely recommend this dish to friends. The cod was a little bland and my fiancée felt that he had to use the garlic aioli to give his food some flavor. Met up with a dear friend for a casual lunch. We love France, so it was the perfect place to meet! We both ordered the steak au poivre. Let me tell you about it. The bread basket - was divine. It came with French butter too. Served warm and that rustic crunchy crust was perfect. I'm convinced you can survive on bread and butter. However, we didn't stop here. Salad frisée aux pardons - frisée lettuce, smoked bacon, one poached egg, croutons, sherry vinaigrette - a beautiful blend of fatty proteins which helps the mineral absorption of the vegetables. Tartare du saumon - salmon tartare with avocado, capers, cornichons, yuzu mayo, scallions, and micro herbs. Served with toasted baguette. Loved every bite. Les moules mariniere - mussels in white wine butter shallots, garlic and parsley broth. Served with fries. Typical French dish that should always be ordered. I think the broth would have been awesome with an extra side of angel hair or any pasta. Husband and I don't like to see anything food wasted, especially this! Delicious! Every dish was savory and tasty, but they can also be more on the rich side because they use more butter and cream- which is understandable for French cuisine. My only callout would be that I wished the salmon wasn't sitting in so much tomato sauce. We also had profiteroles and chocolate soufflé for dessert, and they were so decadent and delicious! Service was great. Our waiter was very nice, polite and attentive despite having to wait on so many other tables around us. Ambience was interesting because it can be quite charming with all the French artworks and decorations, but yet it didn't feel cozy. French Onion Soup: 8/10 Really well executed. Deep, rich, and flavourful broth with a generous amount of onion. Lapin (Rabbit): 6.5/10 Not something you see often on menus. The rabbit itself was cooked perfectly, but the overall dish felt a bit underwhelming in flavour. The accompaniments didn't add much, and the portion didn't quite justify the price. Still good, but probably not something I'd reorder. Canard (Duck): 9/10 Easily the standout of the meal. One of the best takes on duck a l'orange I've had. I enjoyed being able to have Kir Royal and their Pouilly-Fuisse was good (but why no options for a Chablis?), but their escargot came with the SMALLEST amount of oil and garlic and didn't even come with slices of baguette until I asked - and was then charged extra for it. How shameful! Their salmon tartare was delicious but having an underwhelming and disappointing escargot ruined this spot for me. Came with my girlfriends to celebrate a birthday. Service was friendly and food was good. There was live music with a keyboard player and a vocalist. They have delicious French butter with the bread basket (paid item). I enjoyed the escargot (no shell), the duck, and the steak frittes (I like it medium rare). My girlfriends ordered other items which they seemed to enjoy. We brought our own birthday cake but found out they charged per person for bringing your own cake, so we opted not to have the cake at the restaurant. read more

Dinner at Moulin Bouillon felt like stepping into a neighborhood bistro in Paris--right down to the French waitstaff, effortless hospitality, and unapologetically classic execution. All that was missing was me butchering the language while ordering (which I absolutely did). We ordered across savory and sweet, and every dish stayed true to traditional French technique. The steak frites with butter was simple, indulgent, and executed exactly as it should be--perfectly cooked steak, rich butter, crisp fries. No reinvention needed when something is already perfect. The trout amandin was delicate and refined, with thoughtful execution that let the fish shine. Understated in the best way--quietly excellent. Dessert delivered. The profiteroles were light with just the right richness from the dark chocolate, while the pavlova was airy, balanced, and not overly sweet--an elegant finish that didn't leave us in a sugar coma. Came in for lunch today and our server, a young guy with short black hair, greeted us warmly and had a friendly, engaging energy that set a nice tone, so we were excited to be there! We ordered several things, and I was deliberate when ordering the entrecôte - I asked for medium and made a point of saying please don't overcook it. It came out overcooked. Our server did offer to have it remade, which I appreciated, but by that point, I had already filled up on everything else at the table. What I noticed after that was a shift in his attention. He seemed to redirect his energy toward a large, lively French party that had come in and were clearly having a celebration. The wine was flowing and the energy was high, and I get the appeal of that table. But we were still there, still his guests, and the attentiveness that made the beginning of the meal feel welcoming didn't quite carry through to the end. I'm sharing this as straightforward feedback, not a complaint. The framework of a good experience was there. My family lived in Paris for a while, so we absolutely love French food. Lately, we've been obsessed with this place called Bouillon Newport--it's the authentic French bistro in OC. The overall restaurant design replicates the classic Parisian Bouillon style. From what the staff told us, all the dishes are made with fresh ingredients purchased daily, prepared on the spot, and they sell out once they're gone! That's why they're known as "the Best Traditional French Restaurant in OC." The service is also incredibly thoughtful, genuine, and welcoming. Everyone on staff speaks French. This time we tried the Confit de Canard (tender and juicy), Escargots, Leg de Lapin, Beef Bourguignon (the tagliatelle it came with was so flavorful), Steak Frites (served with either pepper sauce or Bearnaise sauce), and the Salmon. After finishing up at RX Fitness I asked if they recommend a place to eat and they told us about this restaurant just a block away. They appear to have several related businesses in this plaza. Bouillon is the full service restaurant. Next door is a more casual cafe and there's even a bakery. I really enjoyed the atmosphere here. Smelled delicious as soon as you walked in and all the staff was inviting even though my wife and I were sweaty and disheveled from trying out fitness equipment. Our waiter was great with suggestions and wine pairings. We both started with Soupe à L'Oignon which was a thing of beauty. Rich and hearty it's exactly what I was craving. The giant blanket of cheese was decadent. We also had an order of baguette with French butter which was great for dipping into the soup. For my entree I had the Saumon Ratatouille which was pan seared salmon served with a traditional Ratatouille. The salmon was truly perfection. The skin was so crispy yet the fish melt in your mouth tender. The ratatouille along with a green topping that I am guessing was garlic and parsley was a match made in heaven. My wife had the Hachis Parmentier which was like a Sheppard's pie. Overnight braised beef, layered with mashed potatoes, topped with breadcrumb and Emmental Swiss cheese. We had a French server, or so I'd assume he is French because of his accent. He was so friendly and made the best recommendations based on what we told him we liked. The place feels like a mix of a sit-down boulangerie or patisserie and a casual restaurant. It's not overly chic but had character. Tables are pretty small so if you are ordering a lot, be mindful of the space. The food is delicious. I especially loved the baked Camembert, pavlova and their house bread! The escargot is pretty good too. I just liked the one from Antoine's in New Orleans more. They also have a pretty decent wine selection and I have to say that served the best tasting butter I have ever had! :) read more

I ordered the duck confit and peppercorn steak & frites to-go. Who orders a duck to-go? A dad with kids on the go. My expectations are always high for French food and they were met here. Always hard to judge presentation in to-go boxes. But they carefully separated everything out, and the items being concealed for a few minutes didn't soggify (I made that one up too) any of the items as far as I could tell. Duck - tasty, but a little too salty. Came with what looked like pesto noodles but were actually thinly shaved cucumber. What a healthy carb replacement. Move over cauliflower rice! Steak - a little bloody for medium well but still hit the spot. The creamy peppercorn sauce complemented it nicely. I'm not a big fan of the thick steak fries as I prefer thinner the better but these were yummy. And did I mention these were ready in a jippy, felt no more than 10 min. I did come during the lull between lunch and dinner and was the only customer which may have helped. This may have been the fanciest fast food I've ever had. read more

We were craving French food so we decided to give Bouillon a try. We had the escargot, boeuf bourguignon, and duck à l'orange. We knew the moment the fresh bread came out with the French butter that this place would hit the spot. Our waiter was very nice and gave us adequate attention, constantly asking if we needed anything throughout our dinner. We greatly appreciated the service. The restaurant is decorated very chicly, I felt like I was back in Paris. Parking is plentiful. We will be coming back! read more

The food here was très délicieux! It was my first time dining in this specific plaza and Bouillon did not disappoint. We started with a cheesy french onion soup and escargot. I can't remember the last time i've had escargot; the name may be offputting but it's really not much different from clams and mussels in terms of texture. Plus, it is covered in so much buttery sauce that you won't even recognize it. The mains were the classic beef stew and an amazingly tender roasted chicken jidori, which was my favorite dish of the meal. I basically ate the plate clean, sauce and potato puree included. The interior was simple and clean. The service was good and the food came relatively quick. The entrees came before we finished eating the appetizers and we had ordered the entrees later. I would likely come here again with coworkers for lunch. read more
