Had a great lunch here recently. They cooked the burger to perfection, to order. The fries are unlimited, but they are generous on the 1st round, you really don't need to ask for more. They had this special charity drive shake. It had the true taste of strawberries inside. Took my daughter here for lunch today. A family walked in as we did and got seated right away and the guy said he will be back to seat us in a moment. We waited for 16 minutes and never got a seat!! First time we've had breakfast at Ruby's. Party of 5 included our 3-yr old granddaughter. She needs to each right away so we all ordered and asked our server to bring her meal as soon as it was ready. He was back within 10 minutes with her eggs and pancakes. He brought out the rest of our order shortly thereafter. Server was very attentive in checking on us and quick with coffee refills. They even gave us an empty cup to take home because our granddaughter liked the color and name. Will definitely return! read more

We returned back to this great location for dinner. The milkshakes were fantastic, as always, service was quick and efficient. And I have to say, we received our milkshakes in record time. Just incredible service! And an update from the previous visit. There was definitely no tough burger like before, but I have to say it's still disappointing in comparison with the angus beef patties from the past. J.D.G previously asked me what can be improved? And I have to say, without hesitation, THE MEAT. This time around I had the seventeen dollar super burger, hoping for something, well, super. Breakfast review. Came on a weekday morning. The service throughout my visit was exceptional. The booths are clean and comfortable. Aside from the usual 50's decor you find at any Ruby's, there was also some train related signage here and there. I ordered the french toast combo which also came with eggs (scrambled) and a choice of meat (bacon!). I had a cup of coffee as I waited for my meal. The coffee was strong & hot - pretty decent for diner coffee. My french toast was done properly but really nothing out of the ordinary. They provided more than enough butter on them! I had to pop a few extra statin pills to keep my cholesterol in check. The eggs were fine but the bacon was crunchy-hard and overdone. I accidentally dropped one piece onto my plate and it shattered into pieces! Overall all it was simply a good experience, no more, no less, which in Yelpspeak = 3 stars. read more

Terrible food, mediocre service and the one star is for cute decor. Maybe it was my fault for ordering fish and chips but I wasn't feeling a burger but my sister also had a crappy breakfast item - cinnamon roll pancake which was super eggy and had very little cinnamon roll taste. Back to my fish and chips, it seems like they pulled it from the back of the freezer and it was in there for 3 years. Overly fried and flavorless. read more

Being a past customer of Ruby's I always came back to this place. Now,never again. The hamburger was a sloppy sandwich. Meat patty was like cardboard. The avocado was not fresh or flavorful. My boyfriend and I went in for dinner around Christmas time and enjoyed a great meal. It was a busy night with groups of people celebrating together. I've been coming to this Tustin location on and off for years. This recent visit, however, compelled me to write a Yelp review. I ordered the skinny lunch with turkey pattie. The service is a mixed bag. The place wasn't crowded at all, and the slow service was at a snails pace. I also ordered the pumpkin spice shake, which is a limited time only item. The shake was yummy. My lunch was left to be desired. The cottage cheese was slightly sour, so I didn't eat the rest of that, and the fruit was refreshing, it was flavorful. The turkey patty was a little chewy. I expected a little more than my previous visits here, and all I can say is, now this place needs improvement. It's a shame. I feel this Ruby's location is going downhill a little. I'm rate my recent visit, 3 1/2 stars. As for my returning to this location, I'll give it another chance in the far future. read more

Haven't been to a Ruby's in years. Server Carlos was perfect! Made my kids feel at home and didn't miss a beat. Manager was very polite. Cooks asked how was the food... crazy how I counted this place out. I will start coming here more often. Great food and a very clean environment. But, most of all the service is top notch. read more

Possibly the worst Ruby's diner in the SoCal area. I had originally made a delivery order which was cancelled for some unknown reason. The cancellation email had the store's number posted in it and to have me call them for further details. The manager upon picking up was extremely rude and continued to tell me that "your order was out for delivery" after I had told him repeatedly that the order was cancelled. He said he would contact the driver and call me back. He never did. I called back 15 minutes after the initial call and asked again why the order was cancelled and if I would be getting a refund. He told me that once the order was out of their store, he had no control over it and could not contact the driver. He then told me that Uber, the service that would have delivered my food, would refund my order if I called them. It was at this point that I had hung up. So, in short, the Uber delivery person had cancelled on my delivery without any notifications, the manager had lied to me and also made false statements as to how I could receive my refund (through another company even though I put the order through the Ruby's website), and they refused to accept any responsibility on this situation or give me any assistance into resolving the matter. I would not recommend giving this Ruby's any business. The diners are not bad, but the service here was the worst experience I've had with this franchise. Order from the one in South Coast Plaza instead. At the very least, they are much more courteous then that joke of a manager. read more

Ruby's never lets me down!! I feel kind of silly waiting this long to try this location, considering its super close to my house LOL! The food is always good and my order is always accurate! Two things that are super important to me! I've had their breakfast and burgers and I can tell you I love both! My mom has also tried their giant sized salads and she loves them too! Now the online ordering is a breeze BUT.. I do wish they would have a notes section or better modification options when your customizing your food. So I politely ask for my sauces once I go in to pick up my food, staff is on point and gives you your food with a smile! It would be nice if they were open just a tad later, since they are on a busy street and there's not much food options open later down here. But other than that, I love me some Rubys! ^__^ read more

With full disclosure, I am a regular at Rubys and have gotten to know the staff. This Ruby's truly feels like a 50's diner where the staff have been there for many years and get to know the regulars. It truly has a home town feel. Breakfasts here are a well hidden secret. While known for burgers, fries and shakes (their shakes are amazing), the breakfasts are terrific. If you are looking for a breakfast place give them a shot. Also, if you do not see it on the menu, ask just in case they have it. For example, I do not think waffles are on the menu, but they make them and they are excellent. Generally, it is not crowded and there is plenty of parking. read more

They say pictures are worth a thousand words. Here's a basket of their unlimited fries. and here's the classic sandwich. The cheese was all on the plate, barely on the sandwich. I lifted it off the plate so it could be on the sandwich so I could eat but decided to forego it anyway. Fries were okay. Don't get the Cajun fries. 1.95 for some old bay seasoning is ridiculous. This Ruby's location is one of the best in OC in my opinion. Fresh food and impeccable service always.

They have been at this location a long time, and have a pretty steady flow of customers even on week nights. That's a good sign. This is classic American food for the most part with an interesting decor. The seats are plastic and red, and the tiles are black and white, kind of tacky but it's the 50s theme I love the trains overhead. And it's got the coldest men's bathroom - great in summer but not so great if you get cold. For me the lights are too bright and it is loud. It's a popular Friends type hangout, you'll see lots of kids of all ages here. If you like to eavesdrop on your neighbor's conversations, it would be easy. Let's see, one family behind us was contemplating colleges for their son, the people in front of us had kids that wanted to buy toys after they told their mom they did all their homework. Tonight they had the friendliest staff, as several people refilled our glasses of soda, got extra napkins, brought ketchup, and said hello, etc. But I couldn't tell if they were "singing" their happy birthday schtick or not to a kid who just turned 10. Tone deaf is OK if they are good servers in my book. Imagine if the reverse were true. We've never had bad service or bad food here. Sometimes when it's busy, like a Friday night, it's a little slow but not too bad. You know that you're going to get here, and consistency/predictability is generally a good thing when it comes to going out for food. My favorite items here are the sliders with grilled onions and served in a Hawaiian roll, the regular burger and onion rings, the Chinese Chicken salad, clam chowder and salad, and the pot pie. I've been to other locations that serve breakfast but not at this location and I enjoyed it. It's not healthy food, and I almost feel guilty with some of this stuff. But it's okay, and the entree prices hover around $10, but you could just order a bowl of their nice clam chowder for half that. At least my wallet isn't empty today. read more

I love this Ruby's. The staff is really personable and efficient. Always have a great attitude and accommodating! The food is good - reliable. Our only complaint was when they had to switch onion ring vendors. Many of us regulars complained.. It's not the staff's fault! Everything else - YUM. and hopefully those original onion rings come back soon! And honestly the onion rings are probably fine if you never tasted those original delicious ones! We recently ordered a take out order here from Ruby's. I ordered a guac burger and my wife got their original. The original was ok, well cooked but dry and overcooked honestly. My guac burger is barely cooked though. Very red/pink in the inside. This is the first burger in a while I've seen so undercooked but the patty must have been really frozen for it to be so. But it's like night and day on these two burgers for the same order. I'm a little afraid this establishment may go under because I had gone on a weekend evening and it was bare. A lot of workers, but no customers. Our bill for two burgers, fries, and one milkshake was $38. Yikes.. Inflation... But for that price, my burgers should be cooked well and be moist. I'll give them another shot in the near future but have to say I'm a bit disappointed with not being able to execute well on your hallmark dish. read more

Love the electric train suspended from the ceiling. Also, the food was much tastier and not greasy like the Crystal Court Ruby's. The star of the place was the service. We drove to this Ruby's from Crystal Court. This Ruby's staff has respect for service animals and their disabled owners rights. We were seated inside the restaurant instead of being told to sit outside. The wait staff was efficient and pleasant. We had a pleasant meal. This is the Ruby's we will visit again even if it takes longer to get there. read more

I love Ruby's because they are quick, friendly, and consistent. My kids enjoy the atmosphere and the food, so it keeps them asking to come back. We recently went because my daughter got a free kids meal for being in the birthday club! Dinner for 3 for $25?! Yes please! Wasn't too crowded when we went, so we were seated in a booth right away. Fun tip - They have an amazing balloon artist who visits all the tables on Friday nights! (You just tip her.) Probably Saturday nights too, but I didn't ask. We only wish there were more than 5 stars to give Ruby's Tustin location. First, our now-adult children grew up going to this Ruby's and the one in NB. Hot chocolate with burgers and fries after all day at the beach; sundaes with extra hot fudge, whipped cream and cherries; the cherry cokes and rootbeer floats. Our family went so often that we are suprised now it's relegated to memories. Earlier today, I ordered a soft serve vanilla sundae to my work, with caramel sauce and maraschino cherries on top; today was my late son's birthday and he absolutely loved Ruby's soft serve sundaes. I mentioned this in my order, and thanked them for the many years of wonderful childhood memories of delicious food and a fun atmosphere. I was working when my food arrived so I didn't have a chance until later (I quickly put the icecream in the freezer of course) to open and enjoy my order. To my great surprise and tears of joy, Ruby's had included a child's Ruby's chef's hat, and 2 foldable paper Ruby's cars, complete with stickers, exactly for a little boy who would have loved that sundae. I cannot tell you how much this meant to our family, but I wept and am weeping now at the sweet consideration that simple act in memory of our son and brother meant. We will never forget that your staff and managers are so deeply full of mercy and grace that they went out their way to do something simple that meant so much to us. Thank you, may this come back to bless you in kind. The quality of the food and staff have always been top tier, that is why so many of us rooted in SOC have so many memories of sharing food and laughter at this Ruby's and other local places on PCH and in the area. More than the wonderful staff or quality of their food, that Ruby's would send a simple delivery of an icecream sundae to honor a son whose memories include having adored those very sundaes...with little gifts to honor him, means more than words can say. He passed from a fatal illness, but one of his great joys was after a long day at the beach, the joy of an extra fudge Ruby's vanilla sundae. Extra hot fudge, extra whipped cream, extra cherry on top. May this location be blessed for such a simple act of incredible grace, and may all the Ruby's Diners who have made memories that ALL families still cherish and laugh about ...be equally blessed as you have blessed us.
