Came here on a Sunday evening and it was crowded! Luckily, in this type of place, you order first and then assigns you to a table, so there's no need to fight for a table. The classic cheeseburger was very good! A little on the plain side, but still good. I got the green chile queso fries and the queso was too extra in my opinion. It belonged with chips and not fries. The fries are good on their own! The vibe feels like a brewery and busy but it's not too overstimulating. Overall, a good place to watch a game and get a meal/drink! read more

Leaving Ocean's Church after service everyone in our group of four wanted to go eat, save for me. My lovely daughter swiftly alchemized my pessimism into gung-ho excitability once she suggested "Daddy there's an upscale burger bar at the Tustin Marketplace..." Cuz nothing on planet earth -save for my wife's lovely figure, of course- will get me going quicker than a well made burger, executed flawlessly. Hopdoddy Burger Bar gets a LOT right: Well made glamburgers that could grace the cover of "Bon Apetit" or "Playboy" what with their glistening, fluffy brioche buns; Creatively christened names; Vast arsenal of craft beers ready on tap; and quick, fast-casual service. Like Jerry Maguire, these folks had me at "Hello!' However, your favorite Yelp correspondent has savored well made burgers on two continents and in 42 states. Here's some tasting notes that my (probable/likely/one day) future son in law and I co-devised: The brioche buns, despite their pillowy softness and foodie-porn good looks, make a lousy vessel for any of their "wetter" burger choices. On Eli's Caddy Wagyu and my Good Night Burger, we both were left with bottom buns soaked like a sponge with various toppings incl bacon jam, house sauce, tomato juice and grilled onions. These were both soggier than my bride's handkerchief after watching "The Notebook!" Please consider offering picky burger snobs like Yours Truly a more suitable bun choice that can withstand the assault of wet ingredients! Suggested vehicles include potato buns, ciabatta, sourdough or even pretzel. Also, pls consider selling customers a small side of fries that ACCOMPANIES the burger- Charging folks $7-13 a la carte when they're already spending $11-$24 for a (glam)burger seems mildly exploitative. Pro Tip- Try dipping your fries in their housemade Chipotle Ketchup is a flavor bomb! My bill, for two gourmet burgers, a large fries and a diet coke, was $47 and change. read more

I've been to the one in Newport but they have good selection of beer and tasty burgers. Always hits the spot. Hopdoddy is a burger shop and bar with large selection of beer cocktails and burgers. We sat at the bar so was served quickly. The beers are served cold and always refreshing got the hazy IPA and was delicious. I got the bacon jam burger and hubby got the bison burger also got small fires to share. Bacon jam burger wasn't overly greasy not too large with fluffy bun, love the bacon jam flavor, hubbys burger was less fatty but didn't taste too gamy. Fries were good portion for $5, finished 3/4 of it. Hopdoddy never disappoints, will be returning customer here! read more

Service was fast! I was filling up water cups when they delivered my beer! Definitely recommend the green chile queso fries - a hint of heat with cheesy crunchy fries - it's the best! Also probably a really good way to clog the arteries, but oh well, that's a problem for future me. Great selection of beers too! Burgers are delicious and fresh! read more

I liked this place and would definitely go back. It was packed when we went.. The line out the door and almost every seat was taken which is usually a good sign. My friends and I ordered the Wagyu Smash Burger. It was a little on the greasy side, but really good. Not one of those giant weirdo burgers you need two hands and a strategy to eat just a regular-sized burger packed with flavor. The grilled onions, jalapeños, and cheddar cheese were tasty. The atmosphere was loud, busy, and energetic. Honestly, I can't even remember if there was music playing because the place was so lively and smoky from the grill. There's a bar right in the center that adds an upbeat vibe and they also have outdoor seating if you want a little more breathing room. read more

If you love burger and beer, then this is the perfect place to satisfy your cravings. Come during happy hour for 50% off all beers and you get a large goblet of beer to drink away the summer heat. The Cadillac Wagyu is juicy and tender, personally I really liked the barbecue sauce, although it's on the more sour side compared to most. The truffle fries are average, wish they were more crispy Staff is friendly and food service is efficient. You can either come here for group gatherings or sit at the bar for some casual conversations read more

This is a very nice burger place. It's another of these 50/50 fast food restaurants ... You order at the counter like fast food but it's brought to you like a sit-down restaurant. My wife and I had both versions of the wagyu burger, and they were both very good. I haven't had a lot of wagyu burgers so I can't really compare with others ... I like the fact they have both styles of burgers -- the thick tavern-style as well as the thin diner-style. I would have liked my Cadillac burger cooked as like more like medium with a little pink earth l rather than well done, but because of the quality of the meat it was still pretty juicy. You can see from the picture that the side of fries is very generous. And this was the small! I do also wish they had onion rings as an option for sides, though. Overall, a great choice for a more up-scale burger. read more

First time trying Hopdoddy, a burger spot that has been recommended several times, and it did not disappoint! It was busy on a Saturday around lunchtime, but the line moved fairly quickly. We ordered the Cadillac wagyu, goodnight/good cause burger, parmesan truffle fries, and the traditional hand-cut fries. The burgers were delicious and packed with flavor, and the fries are a shareable size. Everything came out fairly quickly, even though they were busy with a lunch rush. Next time I am ordering a salad bowl, it looked amazing! read more

Came back to Hopdoddy in Tustin after not visiting for quite a while to see if it was as good as I remembered. Overall, it was a decent meal, but a few things kept it from being a place I'd regularly come back to. The burger itself had great flavor and was cooked well. It was juicy, but almost a little too juicy--the amount of grease made it feel pretty heavy by the end of the meal. I enjoyed the first few bites, but it's probably not the burger I'd order again next time. The truffle fries were definitely the highlight. Crispy, well seasoned, and packed with truffle flavor without being overpowering. I'd happily order those again. The dining experience was a little less enjoyable. The seating system felt more complicated than it needed to be, and the restaurant was fairly crowded during my visit, which made it feel a bit hectic. I also noticed the TVs weren't showing sports or anything particularly engaging, so it didn't really have the atmosphere of a place where you'd want to hang out after your meal. Overall, the food was decent, especially the truffle fries, but between the overly greasy burger and the crowded atmosphere, this visit didn't quite live up to my memory. I'd still consider coming back, but I'd definitely try a different burger next time. read more

I am going to start by telling you that I am not a big burger person at all. When my friends came up with this place I was less than excited. Finding out it was an order then sit place made me even less excited. While in line I couldn't decide between a couple things. I asked the gal at the counter to choose for me. She said that the wagyu smash burger was absolutely delicious especially if you add tomato. I said let's do it. Got a regular small side of fries and a Diet Coke. Fries are delicious! Burger arrived and it looked incredible (no clue why I didn't photograph it but here we are). First bite made me almost lose my mind. It was by far the best burger I have ever had in my 40 years on this Earth. I devoured the entire thing. It was juicy, cheesy, fresh, and beyond delicious. The joint was adorable and chill! Good vibes & I will be returning. One of my friends had a bite and said hers was good but nothing like mine. She has the good night burger and my other girl had the melt. There are plenty of parking spaces. You order first, and then they give you a seat number. I ordered The Classic Burger and Parmesan Truffle Fries (shareable). The Classic Burger was really good, and the patty was not dry, tasty, and had so much flavor. Their burgers don't come with fries, so we ordered Parmesan Truffle fries. The Parmesan Truffle Fries were shared amongst 4 people, and it was enough to share. It was really good as well. Overall, everything was delicious! I came to this restaurant for the first time last week late on a Friday night. I was meeting my boyfriend for a late dinner and we wanted something quick and open late. This was conveniently located in the Tustin Marketplace and they were fortunately open until 11pm. Once we selected this restaurant, I downloaded their mobile app to see if they had a Rewards program, and was immediately granted a "Free French Fry" coupon. When I entered the restaurant, it was quite busy for 9pm on a Friday. I was immediately greeted by a very kind and helpful cashier (didn't catch her name but she had dark brown hair and glasses), who was very patient with me as I read the menu. She kindly notified me that I could use the free fry coupon on any of their availability options. I ordered the Magic Shroom burger, sweet potato fries, and a Oreo milkshake. The cashier then provided me with the number of the two top booth that she selected for us. At HopDoddy, the tables are assigned to the customer, even though it's a counter service restaurant. I actually preferred this method since it took the guess work out of me trying to find a suitable table :) Our food was brought out quickly with the fries being served first. They came with ketchup and an aioli sauce and I requested mustard on side. The fries were fresh and a generous portion. A great value considering they were free with the app coupon! The burger arrived, and I sadly have to admit that we were a bit disappointed. The flavor and temperature of the burger were good, but it was small compared the other restaurants serving $15 dollar burgers. The pesto sauce was the highlight of the dish. The Oreo milkshake is prepared with a custard base as compared to traditional ice cream. It was fine, but I wouldn't order it again. I prefer standard milkshakes as compared to a custard base. Overall, the staff members were friendly and our food was served quickly. The restaurant was clean and had the added benefit of being open late and being located in a central area of Tustin. That being said, the food was not memorable and I most likely wouldn't return on the basis of taste and satiety from the meal. I would return for a quick late night bite if I wanted to sit down in a restaurant instead of surrendering to the long drive thru line of a nearby, very popular fast food burger establishment (cough cough In-n-Out). read more

Hopdoddy Burger Bar proved itself to be an overpriced burger chain with horrible service. They don't even answer their phone which shows that customers are only important for monetary transactions. I came in with a party, ordered a tuna burger and an Athletic Nonalcoholic brew to the tune of $26 including a tip. I was one of the first in my party to order and got my food order LAST! They didn't even give me my drink. They completely forgot my order but were more than happy to take people's money. A great spot for burgers in the Irvine/Tustin area. There's a good amount of parking, but the lot can get crowded on weekends. They have both indoor and outdoor seating available. You order at the register and are assigned a table after ordering. Their system works really well and makes it easier for all customers. The tables aren't the most clean, but they're decent. The food comes out with standard timing. We ordered the burger as medium rare but it came out as well done as with several others that we were dining with. My favorite item is the Thunderbird. It's packed with flavor and is much more filling than it appears. The fries come in a generous portion that's great for sharing. They also have a wide variety of drink options, both alcoholic and nonalcoholic. Their menu is creative and there are some burger combinations that you can't find in other restaurants. I would definitely go back to try more of their creative burger options. read more

Got their burger of the day and Brussel leaves for a chill dinner. It was honestly pretty good, I didn't expect the beef quality to be high and the macaroni and bacon really blended well with the buns. I want to give Hopdoddy five stars so bad, but man the chefs here do not know how to cook a burger medium rare. There was absolutely no pink color in my burger and it was basically medium well. Which is really a shame because the efficiency and friendliness of their service combined with their clean interiors makes for a great restaurant. Delicious burgers and apps, full bar! Grabbed a quick dinner here with the fiancé. We were looking for an easy dinner that isn't too expensive. They have a bunch of tables surrounding a large bar in the middle of the dining room. Fun atmosphere for sure. Order at the counter and they bring the food to you. Everything came out quick and hot. There's a lot of great options for burgers including wagyu, bison, and ahi tuna. We started off with their Brussels sprouts leaves in a sage & hot honey sauce. They were so crispy, sweet, savory, with a little kick. Also got the chicken lollipops with buffalo sauce. Loved both! You can order any burger as a bowl on top of their salad mix or Brussels sprouts leaves, so we both did that. She got the Magic Shrooms burger with goat cheese, mushrooms, and a basil pesto on top of the Brussels sprouts leaves. I got the Goodnight burger which had Tilamook cheddar, grilled onions, jalapeños, and a caffeinated bbq sauce on top of their salad mix. Both were cooked a perfect medium, which is hard to find at burger spots these days. Filling but not overly so, we left perfectly satisfied. We'll definitely be back for more! read more

This is a follow-up to a prior review and I'm placing it because it appears things have changed dramatically. This visit was today at lunch on April 4th. Food quality is the same for burgers but after delivering the wrong fries, they delivered the basket of sweet potato fries and these were burned. I mean they were black around the edges. The service quality was friendly and helpful at the counter but when they delivered two items that were wrong and needed to be replaced, we started to see that our order wasn't getting in and out of the kitchen as written. But the worst issue today, the one that made it very difficult to enjoy everything else, was the temperature...it was 92 degrees outside, and 80 degrees inside with all the doors open. Was the A/C broken or off? nobody said. The the music was loud and obnoxious...perhaps the music was a side-effect of the temperature...hard to say. This experience says "not sure we want to go back" read more

Likes: + Delicious food. Relatively healthy for a burger spot. + I enjoy the mouth-watering scrumptiousness of the parmesan truffle fries. + Waitress was charming, sweet, and helpful. + Ample, open parking. + Plenty of indoor seating. + Casual bar-style ambience. . They don't have a variety of (fruity-flavored) non-alcohol beverages other than a typical soda machine, but I did enjoy the ginger & strawberry punch next to the soda machine. - I haven't e-ordered from here for a while. Great valued place for consistently good burgers and fries! The service here is usually quick, and it's a great place to catch a game without needing to be in an actual bar. Hopdoddy otherwise mispronounced by moi to hop daddy, fits the clientele for Snooze next door. The ordering process is fine then they give you a number and now you go find your table with that number. Instead of the normal number stick on the table and southwest airline seating arrangements. There's a giant roll of brown paper towel by every table for your sticky pleasure. The table tops have the sheen of a previous good time yet the burgers are no match for places like The Stand. Behind the ordering counter stashes a little vegetarian/vegan menu, like a saucy little secret. Anyway, the best thing on the table were the sweet potato fries. Parmesan truffle fries were a great idea but needs thickness and flavor improvement. Food comes out pretty damn fast though. Always well appreciated when one is starving! read more

Been going to hopdoddy since they opened up many many years ago and can say it's still my favorite burger and fry joint around. While I'm not often in Irvine, I come back to this restaurant every once in a while for the incredible truffle Parmesan fries and burgers. The prices have gotten a bit steep compared to what they used to be, but i recognize the fries are intended to be shared with others, hence them costing almost $10 for one bowl. I do wish they offered smaller portions of the truffle parm fries as it ends up being $20 to get fries and a burger if you want anything basic the basic salted fry. I used to get the classic burger, which is always perfectly cooked and seasoned but this time around I decided to try the el Diablo burger which was definitely spicy. I put the salsa verde on the side and ended up not having it as it was yummy but felt salsa didn't match their burger vibe. We all shared the truffle parm fries which were yummy but definitely lighter on the Parmesan and truffle flavor. It was quite a large serving as well so we didn't end up finishing them. I also tried the lavender cocktail which was pretty strong and not sweet but wasn't bad. Service was fast for 8pm on a Friday night. The line didn't take too long but only downside was the only tables left were outside so they're definitely still busy all the time. Overall highly recommend for solid burgers and fries, as well as the many new items on their menu! read more

I've been meaning to try this place for a while now, got off work early to go join them for happy hour, couldn't get anybody to even answer the phone with a couple of questions before I left. We came here for an after work meetup. There is a happy hour deal that some of us came just in time to take advantage of. Most of us got drinks and a burger. I will say that goblet sized drinks are a good size! We got a few rounds. Beer selection is good but could be better. The burger I got, I did not like. That's not to say this place is bad because they have many choices for burgers so I'll try another burger flavor whenever it is I come back. I got some fries and it was enough for everyone to share. Very good fries. Service was good and everything came to the table fast. We were even able to reorder at our table and didn't have to walk all the way back to the counter. Overall good experience. We were able to hang out until almost closing. read more

Omg that burger was savory! So question is, was I just that hungry or did they really perfect burgers? I argue the latter. Nice, vibrant atmosphere with TVs playing sports games in the background. You can sit at the bar and be served fairly quickly, or suffer in the long lines around lunchtime. Ironically, this location is next to In-n-Out, which had an even longer line. It's as if it were burger row. Hands down, some of the best burgers I've had (been to other locations). The service is good and the staffs' t-shirts are witty. If you're looking for casual dining, scrumptious burgers (and fries), and are willing to pay more than In-n-Out pricing; can't beat it. read more
