Though I live closer to the Ruby's at the end of HB'S pier, I frequent this location more for lunch with my friend who works near by. My boys (1.5yr & 3yr) love this location aswell because of the electric Coca-Cola train that runs above the entire dining area. The service is always quick and friendly. Food is up to standards everytime, and I enjoy it very much. I definitely recommend the Super Burger. It's cheese toasted bread is mouth watering, and the mix of all it's flavors including the avocado is seriously fantastic. Now I'm drooling and need to go grab a bite! read more

Excellent breakfast! I rarely write reviews, but when I do, I either had a really bad experience or a really good one. This one deserves a 5-star. I ordered two takeout breakfast entrees and was very happy with the food overall. The waffle breakfast was delicious. My son also thoroughly enjoyed his corned beef hash meal. The food was great, the service was even better. I came here by myself to reset my day as it was around the holidays and I just needed to pause. I am also pregnant and when I made my requests for certain sizes of portions of foods, a mix of sauces and to try one of the shakes the manager (Sheena) was so polite and accommodating. The fries came out hot and the popcorn shrimp I ordered. It was delicious and as I sat there I observed the servers and other customers just being friendly with each other. That was my experience and in this day and age its rare to find a place that you can find that. I asked for recommendations and Sheena took her time to review most ordered items and her personal favorites. I just really appreciate the service (and of course the hot fresh food for me and the baby) The bathrooms were clean and stocked. I look forward to stopping here again with the family soon. I haven't went to Ruby's diner in ages and this is the first time I went for breakfast. Hubby and I enjoyed every last bit of our breakfast. I saw that there was just one guy cooking in the back and he deserves a raise, the food was beyond excellent and I think we just found our new breakfast spot. Thanks mr cook. Bad experience today with our server Carlos. First off this gentlemen Carlos had a attitude and was a bit rude my family sat down outside to dine he immediately assumed that we didn't check in the be seated. Told me next time I have to wait to be seated which explained that someone in the front asked how many in my party n to have a seat. Next I had asked if he or someone could please clean the table which we chose he then grabbed a rag n wiped the crumbs off and onto my wife's lap. I then kept me kool thought he must be having a bad day. Then more people sat down without checking in which he gave me a hard time about. We then notice his attitude changed and had a better out look. We then realized the attitude was towards the color of our skin. I do not appreciate this type of behavior coming from another minority. I've been bringing my kiddos to this location since my son was three, (he's nine now), when he LOVED Thomas the Train and all things train-related. I still enjoy coming here, and the service is generally friendly. There are sometimes "hiccups"... my last visit they actually didn't put the bottom of the bun on my burger... lol... I mean, who does that?! I didn't say anything about it while I was eating my burger because it just so happened I was looking to save as many calories as possible and there was plenty of lettuce to secure the burger, but I DID mention it at the end of the meal just because I thought it was funny... I didn't mention it to get anything but we were given a discount. I appreciated that, and I've generally found they are more than willing to correct anything like that but it does seem like it wouldn't take much effort to make this place exceptional. read more

Worst experience ever!!! Went to pick up an order the guy in cashier (who happens to be the manager on site) checks my order tell me it's not ready and tells me to wait. So about 20min into the wait I go the same guy and ask for the status of my order, then he looks at the bag front of the counter and says that's mine. That bag has been sitting up there for last 15min. I said to him "I thought you were gonna call me when it was ready?" Because I was sitting right front of the counter. He replies back and says "do you not see me running around?" So I said "You told me to wait and I waited while food was getting cold". Then he says "get outta of here and don't come back to my restaurant!" I couldn't believe what I was hearing. While my daughter's food getting cold, this guy is giving me an attitude. I didn't want problems so I turned around and said to myself "what a fuc-ing service". Then this guy chases after me to the parking lot and says "did you say fuc_king asshole?" So angry. So I told him "now you're acting like fuc-king asshole". He yells "don't fuc-king come back" and turned around and wen back in. I come home and my daughter who placed an order online says "where is my shake?" This dumb ass didn't even give me the right order. What kind of service is this? I never felt so humiliated in a restaurant. In my mind I'm thinking is this guy acting like this because I'm Asian?? Whatever reason, this is NO way to treat a customer. This was on 9/3/2021 around 1:15pm at Tustin, CA location. Since he didn't reveal his name even though I asked him, I hope his boss see this and something gets done about this. Sad to say goodbye to an old friend. This is the second time in a row where service was intolerably slow and the food either over cooked or cold. We came after lunch so the place wasn't really that busy. We actually got up to ask for refills and extra lemme for the seafood combo (the fish was way over cooked - like rubber). I peeled the rock hard breeding off the shrimp. The fries still cold on the inside. One hour and fifteen minutes to eat lunch. He sirrachi (?) burger fell apart when picked up with pieces falling on the counter and the plate. I guess if you are coming here stick to the basic hamburger and a milkshake. Worth $16 a head? I've been going to this Ruby's for years and it's one of my favorite places in the world to eat. One of the best parts of the experience of eating here is the decor. It's so all-American and straight out of the 50s. Adorable. The food is solid as long as you don't order anything healthy. I love their BLTA and their burgers are great too. But the star of the menu is the milkshakes. They are ALL delicious and there are many options. Brunch is awful so definitely don't go to Ruby's in the morning. The service is okay at this Ruby's. Not amazing, but better than some of the other Ruby's I've been to. The place is rarely empty but there's not usually a wait unless a crowd comes over from the high school. Overall, I highly recommend this particular Ruby's. read more

Food was terrible. Potatoes that my friend ordered were dried up and tasted like its been sitting in their freezer for a while. Muffin was the same, tasted old and was hard. My potatoes weren't as bad, maybe came from a different package, but the ketchup on the table that i put on the potatoes had a funny taste to it. I suspect this place does not change their ketchup in their containers everyday and this container must have been sitting out for a week on the table!! Yikes!! What a disappointment. We're big fans of restaurants in the Ruby's chain, including the one near us in Laguna Hills/Lake Forest. So pulling into the one in Tustin today for Sunday breakfast/lunch was an easy choice. It was also a mistake. For the record, the staff was friendly: big smiles and nice greetings. But that's where the good part of the visit started and ended. Throughout our time at Ruby's, we barely saw our server...and we actually had to get out of our seats - several times - to get help, condiments, etc. And when we did get our food, it was sub par...and then some. I don't know what the cooks were using to fry their fries with but it was "funky," to say the least. Having worked in several kitchens in our earlier lives, my girlfriend and I thought the taste reminded us of dirty (fryer) oil or an adulterated ingredient. And the BLT (with avocado) might have been the worst-tasting sandwich I've ever experienced. The avocado wasn't spoiled but it tasted like it was; the bacon was sparse; and the lettuce overwhelmed the sandwich. To make matters worse, the bread had been thrown on the flat grill, which left a residue that wasn't just greasy but also left it tasting like the grill hadn't been properly cleaned. In other words, the bread was left with a greasy-burnt taste. Needless to say, we won't be returning to that Ruby's. read more

In spite of all that, both of the placed orders were not filled correctly. The orders were so botched up and missing items that I am very displeased with this restaurant. We just ordered a delivery meal from Ruby's, with the delivery from Postmates...I ordered the 2 egg meal with bacon, Ruby's Spuds and English Muffin and my boyfriend ordered fish and chips. When our ordered arrived, my order did not have the bacon with it. I specifically ordered it because of the bacon so it was disappointing that the bacon was left off. We have called Ruby's to let them know and the manager is trying to tell us that there are different items On different menus when you order through Postmates. I know I looked at the meal and read through it at least twice because I was looking for a comments section where I could note that I wanted the bacon crispy...I could not find comments but I know that I saw the bacon was included. This is the 3rd time we have had an issue with food not being delivered correctly through one of the delivery services! read more

Was walking around around and was really hungry so stopped by to get something to eat with 1 person. That total charge was nearly 30 dollars for a regular burger and bacon cheeseburger. That includes only fries and the burgers. So I'm thinking it's pricey, but hey at least the food must be good. It was mediocre at best. Plus serving size was really small. Don't know why they charge to much when other local burger joints have way more for half the price and from what I've seen taste dramatically better. Don't recommend this place due to quality of food, the price of it, and how much you actually get. No bang for your buck. read more

I wanted to give them a shout out because we order from them via Postmates and Uber Eats and walk here often to eat. They are one of our faves. However, today we received our order from them via Postmates with these 2 mini shakes. We are well aware of their normal to-go sizes so I was upset since their shakes are not cheap and we received such tiny shakes. Postmates charged me full price for normal shakes and my bill closed out on Postmatesand I knew the sizes weren't right. I called Rubys to let them know my disappointment and they acknowledged it was their error. They had me speak to the manager and so he offered to drive over himself to deliver 2 regular shakes to us free of charge for the inconvenience. Due to general COVID-19 precautions I did not meet him when he delivered but I wanted to say thank you since I didn't get to do so in person and do you a solid and recommend Rubys here, for going way above and beyond and driving to our house personally to drop off the shakes. THAT is customer service that is not forgotten. This location was one of our favorites already for the fresh and tasty food but now it is even more so. Thanks again read more

Been to Rubys several times, don't get me wrong with the 2 stars rating. Let me explain. Was greeted upon arrival and was seated right after. Hostess was nice and friendly. Got our drinks out quick and took our order. Good service for sure. I excuse myself to go to the restroom to wash my and my sons hands. Well the restroom was a mess. Paper towels everywhere, which made it messy. Ok fine some kid must have gone in and made a mess. Fine! I take my son back to the booth so I can use the restroom. Well, no toilet paper in either stall! Thats not the bad part! Ready!? One of the toilet seat was smeared with feces!! Disgusting! The other was ok in which I used and used paper towels. (A little rough I might say) after I was kinda disgusted. I mentioned it to staff in which kinda got upset. It was a Saturday night, I wouldn't say it was too busy, there were some empty booths. But I don't know what busy is for them. After dinner, I had to use the restroom again. I was hoping for a little better appearance but No. same. Didn't use the restroom. I left and waited till We got home. That is why I gave this Rubys a 2star rating. Other than that service was good! read more

We've been going to this Ruby's for about 18 months. Previously the waitstaff and cooks appeared to struggle with their organization and service. Now however... I love Ruby's because whenever I come here, I know what to expect, and there are no surprises. But all in a good way. Burgers, fries, and milkshakes or flavored Cokes are the way to go here. Can't go wrong with that. Deviate from it by ordering tacos or a salad, etc... then I can see where room for errors can happen. A Ruby's classic cheeseburger, garlic or chili cheese fries, and a diet Cherry Coke always makes me happy and it's easy on the wallet, too! read more

In regards to "To Go" Orders.. This has got to be THE WORST Ruby's. We frequently order takeout for our lunch meetings and not once have they gotten our order right. We've told them they mess up, yet they still never get it right. Literally, don't order if you have ANY modifications. If you ask for no mayo, you get Extra. They write it correctly on our to go boxes, but then you look at the food and can SEE that it is clearly wrong. AWFUL! The clam chowder tasted like it came out of a can. It was a nasty clumpy consistency and super duper salty. They probably forgot to add milk to the can of Progresso they were using. I ate about a third and left the rest for the rats to eat. Actually, scratch that. Even they wouldn't eat that crap. Mama P got the seafood combo, which was recommended by our server. It wasn't too bad, but it did taste like frozen fish sticks. It's okay, I like frozen fish sticks. My highlight of the night was the King's Hawaiian roll our server so kindly graced me with. Slab some of that strawberry jelly on top and yum-o, something I can actually eat! Nam got the Hickory Burger with "premium beef" (which we later found out costs $2.50 extra...WOW MOM, that's crazy) and he loved it. Said it was very flavorful and delicious. This Ruby's is sort of the go to breakfast place for my family. It is close. We always get seated right away. The food is consistent. Service is okay. We come here once or twice a month. My boys will eat Ruby's pancakes and bacon, so it is worthwhile to come just to get them to eat. The boys also behave fairly well because they are putting food in their mouthse instead of encouraging one another to to do things they know will raise daddy's blood pressure. If you would serve this, go work on car engines. Service 1 (Much closer to DMV than restaurant) It's pretty obvious that management doesn't really care about the guest experience here. Twice cooked fries, dirty cups, tables... It shows that nobody cares here. I realize that I was in a hurry, and we were literally across the street, but lesson learned. My favorite Ruby's location which is odd because there are so many great locations with epic views at the end of piers, etc...still this mellow location just does it for me. Size-wise it's the same as every other Ruby's...lots of parking, excellent service always and they are FAST. I have an hour-long lunch and they get us in and out of there in 45 minutes every time. This location also has a special place for me because they have an electric train running on a track around the entire restaurant...spectacular. Ruby's now has gluten-free buns which I appreciated and it was actually a really good bun! Could hardly tell the difference. I will always be back here. read more
