I started dining at a Spires restaurant in Irvine California in 1980 when I was 9 years old almost every weekend until the Irvine location closed on October 1, 2002 and then went to the Tustin Spires restaurant location and in all the years that I have went to eat out at Spires at the 2 locations I had a great experience with the food that I ordered and the service was great. I have been here a few times. What I noticed is the waiters' attitude and desperation for big tips. The Covid pandemic spoiled all the food workers whereas non-food service workers who gave big tips by being sympathetic and generous to these food workers for not having a job during Covid, and now they think it's the new tip standard that they deserve 50% tip to supplement their CA standard wage of $20+/hr so they can make $100K+ per year for doing basic job duties. I wouldn't feel sorry for the greedy food workers now. Maybe everyone should all do food service jobs, so no one needs to go to school and still makes $100K+ a year for bringing food to the tables. People are so shameless and have no basic dignity nowadays. I also heard that it's closing permanently soon this coming week. It's a direct result due to waiters demanding big tips and giving attitude to customers when they don't get it. What a shame. read more

Sad that Spires Tustin closed after August 5th 2025. After Coco's restaurant closed, this was the last place to have a regular home-style meal. Apparently the site will turn into a restaurant called The Boiled Crab. It's a Louisiana themed place where they dump a bunch of boiled crab and corn and whatever from a plastic bag on a big piece of paper on your table and you eat with your hands. I'll pass thank you. The food and service at this location is excellent! I've gone here twice so far and have not been disappointed one bit. The experience is pleasant from start to finish. Both times my girlfriend and I have come here we've been seated immediately and helped right away. What I've tried so far: - Crown Spires Burger: A plump burger with bacon and onion rings. Delicious and pairs well with a side of their lovely fries. Golden and crispy, and my forever choice of side! - San Franciscan Sandwich: Perfectly toasted sourdough bread is home to a thick beef patty, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, and pickles. Tastes amazing, no doubt. I paired this with their fries as well. Dip them in ranch! Service is always excellent. A server checked on us (and everyone else) frequently. Spires Restaurant is a breakfast institution for over 20 years! The French toast was toast-worthy (thick bread, yay!), and the sausage was juicy and tasty. However, the country plate's gravy needed a pep talk (more pepper, please!) and the helpers could use some finesse (no grabby hands for hot sauce or sugar, please!). Despite some bumps, the server was top-notch. Now, rumor has it Spires is closing soon to make way for... Crap Shack? Guess that's one way to shake things up! read more

This is an old school diner with plenty of options , I had the Denver omelette with home potatoes and toast, it was very good, very tasty and fresh. Food is very tasty! Price is reasonable. I have been here at least a couple times after recently trying it. My only complaint although as minor as it may be is the server was speaking to me. I know he could speak Spanish because I overheard him talking to his coworkers in spanish. I would order in spanish and he would refuse to respond back in spanish and continued in English. Our first time at Spires restaurant in Tustin and it was a winner! It started with the great service by the fab Lucy! She was patient, not rushing us, answered all our questions and of course kept the coffee , coming while we dined. I want to praise whoever was in the kitchen that day (12-26-24) for their excellent preparation of our meals (ribeye steak and eggs). The steak was cooked exactly as requested (medium), the homestyle potatoes were great as well - you actually tasted the potatoes, onions and green bell peppers. The coffee was very good and fresh. The restaurant was clean and bright making for a great dining experience. Thanks again Lucy, we will be back! read more

A local spot that is homey and serves up great diner food! I have been coming here as a local for as long as I've lived in Tustin and their food is very good and servers are always kind and attentive. My go item on the menu is the fried chicken meal. It is beautifully crispy and fresh and the seasoning is not overly salty and is just a very nice wholesome fried chicken. If you get it with the waffle it balances it beautifully. The waffle is crispy and fluffy inside and is not to sweet and juxtaposes with the chicken wonderfully. The strawberry pancakes are an amazing option for breakfast or whenever you are craving breakfast. This place gets crowded for the brunch crowd and it is a throw back for the 90s which is part of its charm. You feel like you are transported back to a different time with amazing food and good service. I can't quite put my finger on it but the ambiance is a special small town diner feel which is a welcome change to the look of all other breakfast and chain diner joints. The avocado burger is also a great burger option and I personally don't like burgers. The meat is of good quality and the fries are a nice touch to the whole meal. I'm so happy there are still a couple of Spires locations around! I used to dine at one with my grandparents when I was a kid, and that location is no longer. My husband and I stopped in during breakfast hours and were happy we could order from the entire menu. We did not feel like breakfast food. I had the tuna melt with cole slaw. My husband had the turkey melt with fruit. We split both plates. Both were fantastic. I'd definitely order that again if I'm ever in the area. I haven't been to Spires for any meal for quite a while. This one in Tustin is nice and cozy and was warm on a cold February morning. A buddy and I had breakfast and arrived early enough before the crowds got in. The waitress and staff were excellent - making sure our meal was okay and refilling coffee and iced tea. (Their iced tea is delicious.) My friend got the strawberry waffle (and a side of hash browns) and really enjoyed it. I got the standard eggs, hash browns, and bacon (with sourdough toast), but sadly my meal had gone cool while probably waiting the waffle to be ready. I didn't want to make a fuss (it wasn't cold - but not hot like I like it) so shame on me for not returning it. But with that said, the hash browns were perfectly cooked (I ordered well and they were) and the eggs were good and tasty. The bacon was cool and very fatty (and very salty - more than normal) and the toast was cold where you couldn't melt the refrigerated butter enough to dunk it in the eggs. I gave Spires a 4 instead of a 3 because I should have spoken up and didn't. And the service and ambiance were excellent! read more

For the first time I had lunch at this place . I order the Spires Baby Back Ribs. It will come with soupe and also 2 sides and toast. The food was great the soup the sides and the Ribs was big and great taste with the barbecue sauce . I am good eater I could not finish the Ribs because it was large and a lots of meat on the bone . Something has changed here. Been coming here for 10 years. Food has always been good but the service was absolutely horrible... I asked for a clean fork and the waitress rolled her eyes and clearly was irritated that I asked her. Then I brought my drink in because I didn't want it to get hot in the car and some guy told us we couldn't have it in the restaurant because corporate is watching them. I have been here plenty of times with a drink and no one has ever said anything to us.. We ordered drinks but that still was unacceptable. Then we saw 3 other customers bring in Starbucks and nothing was told to them!! Not sure what is going on but don't think I will be returning! One of the rare Spires location that is still in business today, please don't change this!! Such nostalgic vibes when my family and I frequented other locations growing up. The food is still as delicious as ever! Don't expect what you'd get at Morton's or Claim Jumper and you won't be disappointed. My mom loves getting their half crispy chicken with hash browns and fries (so many potatoes, lol). My dad gets their prime rib and veggies along with a big bowl of clam chowder. I usually get one of their special of the day to try because it comes with a cup of soup and side salad, which is a fantastic deal for the best bang for buck. With so many local dining choices, we seldom dine here. We were happy to see that there was indoor (safely distanced, wait staff masked,...) since the weather has been so cold. Hubby ordered a double Western Burger, and chose chili cheese fries for his side. I was happy to see an old favorite, Chef's Salad, on the menu! It was freshly made, and there was enough for me to take home for my dinner tonight. I despise restaurants that make their salads ahead of time--after sitting in the fridge, the lettuce loses its crispness, and the taste is impaired. Today's salad was great: the lettuce was crispy, the meats and cheeses were plentiful, and there was a good amount of hard boiled eggs and tomatoes. I had a choice of garlic bread or dinner roll, too. Our waiter, Pedro, kindly gave me 2 cups for the honey mustard dressing to go with the takeout container and plastic bag. The host as well as Pedro were warm and welcoming, something we have experienced every time we've dined here. Always a good experience eating at Spires. Came here on Easter morning with family for brunch and we didn't have to wait at all for a table. Service is always great and on top of their stuff. Inside is pretty open and feels like your typical diner, nothing to complain about, but nothing to be too excited about. Their French toast is my favorite and is delicious. Their salads are actually really good and the lettuce is always perfectly cold. They unfortunately raised their prices along with everyone else so it's hard to justify paying for French toast for that amount, but still a good place for a casual breakfast or lunch. read more

Old school American restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner all day. Locations in Socal only. I grew up going to the one in Lawndale, so was happy to find this location in Tustin. Service is usually pretty good and friendly. Food is consistent with what you'd get at other spires locations. Some of my favorites are: cheeseburger and fries, patty melt, fettucine pasta, chicken strips, garlic bread, I love their soup, salad & garlic bread on Thursdays when they serve broccoli soup, their ranch and blue cheese salad dressing is bomb, and surprisingly they have some pretty amazing desserts! All of their pies are delicious (my faves are chocolate and banana cream, their chocolate sundaes are so amazing, puddings are good as well. Breakfast isn't mind blowing, but pretty good, about what you'd get at a Denny's or Ihop. They have some cool 50's artwork on the walls. They have a good senior menu, which is probably why you often see an older crowd. read more

It was laughable and unfortunately since I went through GrubHub, I didnt want to go through the phone time of getting refunded. Toast was delivered wrapped in foil which made it very soggy.
