I ordered the Italian sandwich and clam chowder because I was curious to try this spot. Unfortunately, the sandwich was pretty underwhelming. The ingredients looked like they were just stacked together haphazardly, and the clam chowder didn't taste particularly fresh. Overall, not a very impressive experience.

This is a great place if you're craving a sandwich or want a quick bite. I've been back multiple times for their Cranberry Turkey Sandwich, which seems to be a holiday special (I hope it stays around). I love how crispy the outside of the bread is and the cranberry is not too overpowering. I've tried a couple of their soups too and those are tasty as well. The service depends a bit when you go and how busy it gets, but for the most part the staff are friendly and quick. If you're looking to dine-in, there are seating indoors and some options outdoors too.

Food here was great! The flavors were strong without being too overpowering, and the bread was nice and crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Some sourdough breads you get may be a bit too hard but this was a great consistency! I got the French dip sandwich 6", and the Barbecue chicken flatbread. The French dip had a good amount of beef and the au jus dip was not too salty! The flatbread was great as well, not too cheesy and had a great flavor! It did take about 20 mins to get my 2 orders, so expect some wait especially when it gets busy. The food is also on the pricier side. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the inside was kept clean. I'll probably come back and try their clam chowder and other menu items as they do look pretty good as well!

Choco chip cookie = delicious, can't go wrong with this one

4" Italian sandwich for $9.99: 4/5. Nice meal with the sharp-tasting proteins and fresh sourdough bread. Kinda funny how everything slid out from between the bread after each bite, but I guess that's part of the experience. The sandwich came with a pickle spear (yes!!) and two thin slices of bread. Small Signature Mac & Cheese for $7.99: 3/5. The roux and pasta looked great, but this unfortunately wasn't strongly cheesy enough for me. Too pricey for the bland taste and the small portion (in a tiny cup!). Chocolate Chip Cookie for $3.49: 5/5. I enjoyed the texture and the many chocolate chips. Super good heated up, too. I tried my friend's flatbread, and it tasted amazing! Cheesy and not too doughy, with a good spread of meat. I'll try a flatbread the next time I visit. Interior had a simple, deli-shop atmosphere. Indoor and outdoor seating were available. Staff were friendly and accommodating. The place the bustling on a sweltering hot Saturday afternoon, but we luckily we were able to grab a table inside the shop.

While Sourdough & Co. is renowned for their freshly baked, warm sourdough bread and their deli style sandwiches, I wasn't that impressed during my recent lunch stop. Sourdough & Co. is located in the Cypress Village shopping center (in Irvine) ~ on the corner of Jeffrey & Trabuco Rd, near Mokkoji and Starbucks. It adopted the coveted corner lot spot of the plaza where Baskin Robbin's and Cauldron ice cream use to be. The eatery has limited seating indoors and some community outdoor patio seating. The setup is very Subway-ish, minimal in decor. Aside from the big American flag displayed proudly as you walk in, the inside is very unimpressionable. The hubs and I were not greeted or even acknowledged by staff upon arrival, even though there were 2 workers behind the counter. There literally was just 3 other pairs of people within the store besides us and only one of which was awaiting their food order. We eventually figured out on our own to order from the kiosk. I ended up ordering the BBQ chicken flat bread ($12.99) ~ which had seasoned chicken, a creamy white sauce, a rich blend of cheeses, barbeque sauce, onions and cilantro. A bit small for the price point, but still enough portion for me, as I tend to eat lighter for lunch. The dough felt a lil undercooked and I wished the overall meal was a bit crispier. It was ok, IMO. I also ordered a cup of the clam chowder, which again was a bit disappointing. It lacked the hearty, flavorful clams and just seemed to be filled with potatoes. Nothing too memorable. Pass for $7.99. My hubs ordered the 8" cholula chicken specialty sandwich ($16.99), which was prepared hot with carved chicken marinated in green chili cholula & jalapeno ranch dressing. house spread, lettuce, tomato, crisp jalapeno, and pepper jack cheese. He also said it was ok, just barely a step up from Subway. We both agreed that the sourdough bread was good, but it didn't wow us. All in all, we likely won't be back. But we are always willing to try a place once.

Close up of their sourdough bread (I bought a baguette to slice/enjoy at home) DELICIOUS!!!

So I normally avoid chain sandwich shops because I think the bread is yucky (Subway, Quiznos, etc.) BUT after trying Sourdough & Co I am now a huge fan because their bread is delicious! Their sourdough bread is freshly baked into baguettes and they are delicious! In addition to the sandwiches, you can also get a bread bowl (yum!) or baguettes to take home or even to 'take and bake' at home. Their sourdough also really tastes like sourdough since it's slightly tart the way a sourdough should be and it's super soft/fluffy on the inside and slightly crisp on the outside - the bread is perfection! They also have a fun variety of sandwiches! My favorites are the French Dip, the Caprese, the Turkey Pesto and also you can build your own. The service at the Jeffrey location was outstanding! A man named Lucky was especially helpful! Be sure to try their flatbreads and fresh baked cookies too but the bread for sure is the star! Best sandwich shop in the area!! They also have a Huntington Beach location as well.

    #13 Garlic Pesto Turkey

came here recently and wow... that sourdough is no joke. we ordered to-go and sam said the guy helping him (maybe the owner or manager?) was super friendly and genuinely delightful. that already made the experience feel good before we even took a bite. we tried the french dip and the garlic turkey pesto. let me just say -- the TEXTURE of the sourdough??? chef's kiss. crusty on the outside, perfectly chewy inside, exactly how good sourdough should be. it honestly makes other sourdough spots taste a little mediocre in comparison. the french dip was my favorite. the au jus wasn't overly salty (which I appreciate), and everything just felt balanced and well executed. sam loved the garlic turkey pesto -- the mustard threw us off at first, but the more we ate it, the more it all came together in a really nice way. only con is the price. it's definitely on the higher end for sandwiches, which is the main reason I wouldn't order it super regularly. that said, you can tell the bread is baked in-house and super fresh, so I can't be too mad about it. overall, really happy we tried this spot and would absolutely come back when we're craving legit sourdough.

I came here on a weekday for dinner and let I'm not even a sourdough person but this place totally changed my mind. I got the bread bowl and the tuna salad both with their sourdough bread and wow it was so good. The bread bowl even comes with this garlic bread top that's extra crunchy and super yummy. They've got indoor and outdoor seating so you can chill wherever and the staff is super nice. My food came out fast and everything was fresh and tasty.

New England Clam Chowder is delicious
    Cristian B.

The place was open after New years and I am so happy because I was starving for something afternoon hangover. I got a fast service and got myself an new England clam chowder bread bowl. I was delighted and grateful for this warmth of bread and soup in one. The place is big and chill for after holiday hang out. I will be back for more.

So unprofessional. The girl taking my order was picking her zit and then used same hands to make sandwich. Gross. Then she was making someone's sandwich and messed up with sauce and just transferred the meat with the wrong sauce to a new bread. Sandwich was also wrong!!! No onion

    Chelsea V.

I tried this new place and it ended up being a great choice. The staff were friendly and made the whole experience easy from the start. I ordered the broccoli cheddar soup and it was genuinely good. I left with no complaints and I would definitely go back.

It was just a few kimchi dishes, raw onions and chives. I've had places that give way better variety. Along with that the intestines were just intestines with garlic and chives and came with a dipping sauce. It didn't come with any other sides of veggies to wrap or eat the intestines with. No steamed egg.. no soup.. Portions weren't big either. We ordered the cold noodles and that didnt taste particularly great either. It was mediocre. I have always really liked this restaurant, which is why today's experience was especially disappointing. Unfortunately, what happened today was truly awful. From the beginning, our server appeared visibly impatient. When we repeated a couple of dish names to make sure the order was correct, she began speaking to us in an unnecessarily loud and irritated tone. Her voice was loud enough that another employee noticed the situation and offered to take over the order. Instead of accepting the help professionally, our server responded that the other employee would not be able to understand what she had written in Korean. When the other employee later asked her to repeat our order, she read it back very loudly and with obvious anger. The entire restaurant could hear her, and the experience made our whole family feel embarrassed and extremely uncomfortable, especially since we had children with us. Later, she seemed to realize that her behavior had affected us. She brought us a noodle dish "on the house" and briefly said sorry. While we appreciated the gesture, it did not undo the way we were treated in front of the entire restaurant. My question is: if you knew your behavior required an apology afterward, why treat customers that way in the first place? Customers should not be made to feel like an inconvenience simply because they are dining with a larger group or placing a larger order. We came to enjoy a family meal, not to be spoken to with hostility and publicly embarrassed. Unfortunately, this experience completely overshadowed the food.

All take outs only and in disposable bowls/containers. You can sit inside or outside. I understand during the pandemic why this was necessary but should be fine to return to normal operation at this point. So much garbage created with all the one-time-use stuff. Most people opt to dine in so makes no sense to have so much trash. And the indoor table was sticky. I know this is now a take out only place so diners have to clear their own plates... but we were the first group sitting down at our table when the restaurant opened...shouldn't the tables be cleaned initially before starting the day's operation? The biggest letdown...food. For a place that used to pride itself in freshly made udon and soba, these two dishes were terribly average. They might have used diluted soba tsuyu for the dipping sauce...it is not the full flavored version but tasted rather watered down in order the fill the larger takeout cup. The soup for nabeyaki also tasted bland, not as flavorful as their old broth. I think I could make a better broth using udon powder packets from grocery store. The rice dishes like katsu-don and prime beef steak were ok. Now the beloved Fukada feels like a generic food court stall. Of course it's still popular but the food is not the same.
