Ordered a breakfast burrito and tots here a few weeks ago. They got delivered soggy and heavily greasy. I reached out to Brandin Duda one of the managers, he sincerely apologized and said he would refund and put my name down for a future order. However after multiple attempts to get a status update on my refund I was ignored. I figured he was busy so I gave it about 3 weeks with a follow up weekly and no reply. I waited to write the review in hopes of Brandin replying to me, with no success.

I ordered a sausage breakfast burrito and I added bacon to it for a couple extra dollars. I also added a side order of tater tots. The wrapper for the breakfast burrito was soaked with oil/grease. It was already looking bad before I even took a bite. The burrito was cut in half and I was able to see what was inside. It looked liked it was filled with corn beef hash to be honest. You could not see the egg, tater tots, bacon or sausage. It just looked like it was filled with mush. Breakfast burritos are one of my favorite items and this was bad, really bad. I didn't finish it and tossed out the other half. The side of tater tots were really dark, at first glance I thought they were burnt. I took a bite of one and it was ok. Maybe old oil in the deep fryer?? Who knows. Typically, even a bad breakfast burrito is ok. This was so far off the charts that I had to throw it out. I'll pass on The Trough

Right off of Main St next to Goldfinch - you can order by kiosk and there is both indoor and patio seating. I didn't like the food and the experience was mediocre. I ordered the classic pastrami and it took quite a while to get my order made even though it didn't look too crowded. The volume of pastrami meat was pretty thin and I thought there was way too much cheese. The pickles added a nice tangy zing to it, otherwise, it was a pretty sloppily made and unremarkable meal. I also made the mistake of ordering their mac n cheese with bacon (which always helps), but it more resembled Mac n cheese soup with it being very watery. The intensity of the cheese flavor is therefore really dialed down and you just don't get that much flavor in any single bite. I doubt I would come back but if going with other people, I would opt for something different on the menu. That's all.

Everyone has been raving that Trough has the best breakfast burrito in OC and I have to agree that it is one of the top contenders. I like that they serve their breakfast burrito all day and it's very customizable to be vegetarian or meat based. The tater tots were crispy and the eggs were cooked perfectly, everything in the burrito went well together. The sandwich toppings were good, I recommend adding the pickled onions for some acidity. I wish that the dutch crunch bread had more structure and was a little more dense like traditional dutch crunch, I felt like it was on the softer side. We ordered for pick up because first time app users get 25% off, such a good deal! They have plenty of indoor and outdoor seating for you to enjoy your meal. I saw this ginormous burrito on my friend's Instagram story and she was kind enough to tag the location. I instantly took initiative and went with my friend the very next day. Now I am honestly not a breakfast person, especially not for a breakfast burrito. I don't even like eggs. HOWEVER, I ordered the breakfast burrito with chorizo and egg white and it was spectacular. Converted me into a breakfast burrito lover if I may say so myself. Our server was wonderful and sitting outside added a whole new level to our enjoyment of dining. I would highly recommend trying this place if you're looking for a new breakfast/sandwich spot in OC.
More of a 3.5 stars. We were HIGHLY recommended the breakfast burrito, so maybe went in with a bit of higher standards. It was perfectly decent. They were huge, so you're getting a good size for the price. I didn't love the sauce it came with; it's a thin, onioney avocado salsa. They honored all of our modification requests!

Came here specifically for their breakfast burrito since they are talked about being among the best and it did not disappoint. Its definitely a must try. It starts out at $14 and you choose your protein (including portobello mushroom). From there, you can add various things at an extra charge. We got the pork and portobello mushroom, which came out to just under $17. We also got a side of mac & cheese (which works as an excellent burrito topper). The burrito alone was perfect for 2 people. It is not the easiest place to find, but they do validate the parking garage.
If you want a greasy full impact breakfast burrito this one is for you. The crispy tator tots add crisp and it has so much flavor. I added the chorizo but they have a few options to choose from and customizations you can make. One burrito is enough for two.
I kept hearing that this spot serves one of the best breakfast burritos in OC, so I had to see for myself. I placed my order ahead for pickup. When I got there, parking turned into a bit of an adventure. There's a garage nearby, but no clearly marked spots for customers so I ended up sending my passenger in to grab the food while I circled. As someone who hates bad parking situations this wasn't ideal but I'll admit the burritos helped make up for it. We tried the steak and avocado and the sausage and avocado burritos. Both were hefty, flavor-packed, and super satisfying. The steak wasn't what I expected as it had more of a cheesesteak texture but it worked surprisingly well with the creamy avocado and eggs. The tater tots had me skeptical but their crunchy texture made me a believer. The total came out to $37 for two burritos, which is steep but it fed me for the day. I'm already eyeing the sandwiches for next time.
An excellent breakfast burrito, in any other city it would be the city's finest but in Irvine the crown remains at The Cut. A solid breakfast burrito and I see why it makes so many Top OC lists. Without a doubt it is a top tier option. Great tasting. I ordered the bacon and left fully satisfied. I laughed reading the comments about the grease. Inside the tortilla are freshly cooked eggs, cheese, tater tots and a protein option what do you expect? If you want to eat clean stick to Avocado toast and fresh fruit. Parking is inside a large garage. The levers were raised this morning but I believe they validate parking. Service was slow because the cashier was inputting a large ordering and I bet they had several online orders as well (its near a plethora of businesses) I will go back to The Trough UNLESS the Cut starts serving their breakfast burritos all days of the week. If they go that route, I will drive the extra 6 minutes off the 405 and go there instead. read more

Very friendly staff. Inside was very clean, indoor and outdoor seating. Got the latter, orange juice and the breakfast burrito. Latte was good considering it comes from one of those automated machines. Orange juice was fresh and ice cold, perfect. Burrito was big, filled and hot. Perfecto split honestly. Parking is a garage BUT it's free validation they offer so that good. Def will be back to try their sandwiches next. read more

Been coming here for a minute and figured it's finally time to say it. Trough really don't miss. Every time it's fresh, clean, real farm to table quality. No extras, just quality ingredients done right. Rodrigo always keeps it solid. Quiet, cool, respectful. He doesn't do too much, just makes sure everything is right and lets the food speak for itself. Service is always smooth, staff stays on point, whole place got a good vibe. No fluff, just trough. I'll be back like always. read more

I was craving breakfast for lunch so decided to try The Trough. It was terrific. One of the best breakfast burritos that I have had in some time. The Breakfast Burrito with Sausage was huge and packed with yumminess. I could only finish half and I'm excited for leftovers tomorrow. I would not hesitate coming back. read more
So glad I found out about this place. It's in a business district area, and there is a structure available for parking. The great thing is that they validate parking for two hours. They had lots of good things on the menu but I decided on the breakfast burrito. You can select the protein you would like and I went with steak. I honestly think this is the best breakfast burrito I've ever had. Literally so good! It comes with a salsa sauce on the side that was to die for. The burrito was also huge so you get your money worth. I could only eat half. I loved how they had patio seating and they have free WiFi. I was able to work for a bit while enjoying my food, it was perfect. I will definitely be back! read more

I've been here a few times, and this time around decided to try something new. I ordered the Tuna Salad Sandwich was I really liked! I did notice it was listened under the cold sandwich section on their menu but it was more of a Tuna Melt and came warm. I personally loved that it was served this way but could be confusing how it's written on the menu. I thought the sourdough bread was really fresh and crisp. You could also add on a few things such as avocado. I'm not sure if adding jalapeños was an option or not, but if it is I would add it next time to tie it a kick! read more

Wanted a hefty breakfast bowl so I Ordered through DoorDash which came out to this bowl for takeout. The breakfast bowl had your choice of protein, pico, cheese, and tater tots. However, the sausage wasn't what I expected and almost was like ground pork? I will opt for the bacon next time. The pico was also lacking in portion so it was mostly tater tots and cheese. I've ate at The Trough before and have had an overall pretty decent experience, but this time was pretty disappointing. I ordered a salad to go and it was ready by the time it said it would be ready. The front counter was also nice as well, but what really disappointed me was the salad. My salad appeared to have old lettuce that I didn't notice until I shook my salad up. The lettuce was hidden by all the toppings and the dressing. For almost $13 for this salad, you should be getting a fresh salad... It really made me not want to come back again. You're probably better going to MJ's (that's about a 5 min walk away) for a salad that's twice as big and fresher than this one. read more
The Trough is located in a business area. I've visited a few times and food and customer service are pretty consistent. Parking is in a parking structure and The Trough does validate. We usually order with Alex and he's always patient and accommodating, great vibes! I've ordered their sandwiches and bowls - they are consistently tasty! Super casual restaurant located in a business plaza. The entrance was kind of around the corner of the parking structure so it was a little difficult to find. We ordered at the kiosk then sat ourselves outside. They had umbrellas which was nice since we were there on a sunny day. Would recommend sharing with a friend so you can try different things which was easy since they cut the sandwiches in half Cali cowboy: 5/5 I really liked this sandwich and would def get it again Tater tots: 5/5/ nice and crispy. The ketchup tasted a little different from regular ketchup but it was good Trough torta: 3/5. Ordered this with beans on the side since I was sharing with a friend and I didn't want beans. Solid and very filling sandwich. Had to add tapatio though because I wanted some spice. read more

WOOOOO delicious breakfast burrito! Us So-Californians LOVE carne asada fries and the steak breakfast burrito was exactly that...except wrapped in a tortilla (and with tater tots of course) I really enjoyed it! But beware -- don't eat the whole thing or you will go back to sleep haha I really enjoyed the salsas as well! But I'm not going to lie, the burrito was also super delicious with some mild sauce from Taco Bell (don't come for me)! read more
Food is good--, their breakfast burritos are really yum! My last review mentioned the slow times and I was hoping it would get better. 2 years later this still hasn't changed. For how slow the front actually is I don't know why my food took so long. Today I went around 12:10 PM. Saw multiple people come after me. They all received their orders and left before I did. Mine wasn't a special order and just one burrito so I don't know why mine took so long. Only explanation is they forgot mine. It was so slow up front that I knew the cashier guy saw me waiting. But he didn't even check until after I went up to ask. Finally got my order. But no "sorry for the wait" "thank you for waiting". Pretty infuriating if you ask me, not that they seem to care! My company also occasionally does catering orders from them. But last time they didn't communicate something to the manager so our order wasn't ready on time even though id called to confirm before. Please train your staff properly. Pity that the food is actually good, but the handful of times I've come here I haven't had great experience with customer service. I was in the Irvine area and was looking for a place to have a quick bite to eat. Someone recommended this place to so I checked it out. There's plenty of seating inside & out, is pet friendly and has a good variety of options. I had the trough bowl with bulgogi beef & sesame chicken salad. The bulgogi was so good! The salad was also good and satisfied my need for some vegetables. I'd definitely go back for the bowl. There's validation for parking so that's always a plus. Saw a post on Instagram from Brooke.and.Ben about this restaurant having a really good St. Patty's Day Sandwich special and breakfast burritos. We had to stop by and get them. They are so delicious! We got the tots too and so much meat and flavor packed in there. The restaurant locates in a really nice business complex. Service was fast. Got them home and ate every bite. The burrito was fine, but we ordered steak and they gave us a bacon. We told them the first time so they could remake it, I guess we just assumed that they would've gotten it right the second time but to our surprise when we opened up the wrapper in the car. It was a bacon AGAIN. Not a huge deal, but like it seems like a pretty silly mistake to make twice. read more

We have become regulars at the trough and they're always kind, clean, and friendly there. They always offer parking validation, which is a plus!! There is sometimes a wait depending if there's a rush or not, but it's worth it for the breakfast burrito or the California cowboy sandwich :) read more

Oh wow. My husband and I have gone here about 5 times now for breakfast. I get the chicken breakfast burrito with egg whites. The most delicious tortilla and GOOEY CHEESE YUM!!! Lines always pretty short when we go, it can be a bit of a wait but always worth it. I'm obsessed with this place! It's always clean, and they have an abundance of hot sauce. This is now officially my favorite breakfast burrito in OC. I ordered the breakfast burrito with avocado instead of adding any meat as protein. It had a perfect ratio of crispy tots, gooey cheesy, sunny side-up eggs, and creamy avocado. I also loved that they put pico de gallo inside to cut the fat and add fresh flavors to the mix. I also ordered the caprese sandwich to eat later and although I didn't have it fresh, it was still so good. The dutch crunch roll was crispy and the melted mozzarella with the chicken breast was such a great combo. The mac and cheese was just alright though so I wouldn't order it again. There's plenty of indoor and outdoor seating so you can come as a group or solo to grab something to go like many people I saw did. They also validate parking so no need to worry about spending any extra money. read more
