Came here for my girls birthday brunch. Our server was Felicia and she and the bartender made our visit memorable and fun! Super chill and earthy vibe of the restaurant. The patios were open and the weather was perfect. Drinks were on point. Just as you would make them at home and Felicia was knowledgeable about the menu and made suggestions for our order. As for the food, lol, we didn't entirely understand what we were ordering, but glad they did! The food was amazing and we tasted flavors and combinations for the first time. We are racing that we need to go back for dinner!
Solid experience! Located in an off-the-beaten-path neighborhood not far from downtown, this place should be on your list. Note that only street parking is available. Indoor & outdoor seating and large garage doors that are open on great weather days. We went early (5:00) on a Tuesday evening - with a reservation. It was pretty quiet when we got there and it picked up a lot by the time we left. Our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable. The interior decor is cool. Food was good. The lamb was in the form of a soup and while not the best it was pretty good. The hangar steak was well prepared and really tasty. My husband and I shared it. The lamb (soup form) was not good or sharing. Probably would go back but only if we are downtown Denver and have extra time. It's a bit out of the way for us.
We came here for restaurant week and my husband and I shared everything. We got: - Devils on Horseback - Duck & Potato Croquettes - Rockfish Tom Kha - Pork Osso Buco - Croissant Bread Pudding - Key Lime Curd I really enjoyed everything, but it has been few months and there are a couple of things that were so good I'm still thinking about them. The Rockfish Tom Kha had absolutely incredible flavor. I've never had it as an entree before and they do it very well. The Key Lime Curd was the other top dish for me. It was so tart which is exactly what I wanted. They have a good looking meal for Sunday dinner too and I'd love to come back for it.
I really can't say enough good things about what the Edible Beats team does. Linger was one of the first restaurants I ever went to when I moved to Denver, and El Five has always been one of my favorites too, so I finally made it to Root Down and honestly... another win. The space feels very Root Down in the best way. Funky, artsy, a little mid century, but still comfortable and not trying too hard. Then the food starts showing up and suddenly the whole table is passing plates around because everyone keeps saying "wait, try this." We ordered a bunch of things and the smoked carrots were probably the biggest surprise for me. I would absolutely go back just to eat those again. The masa birria, diver scallops, and grilled artichokes and asparagus were all great too. The hanger steak was cooked perfectly and came with duck fat potatoes, which immediately puts me in a good mood. Dessert also fully delivered. The banana cream pie with black sesame whip was one of those desserts where you keep going back for another bite even when you're already full. It just felt like a really thoughtful meal from start to finish. Definitely one of my favorite dinners I've had in a while.
We were here early Sunday night. This is the second time as we were here two years ago. We were disappointed on many levels as our first visit was quite good. The menu has changed and it was a struggle to find something we wanted. We looked at the menu before coming and I wanted to try the Lion's Mane as I am a fan of that mushroom. It was a slow time as it was early. We ordered and everything took an exceptionally long time to get to the table considering the restaurant was relatively empty. The wait person was good but everything else was mediocre at best. There was nothing we would come back for and we are sad because our first experience two years ago was good.
Good, service, ambiance- all exceptional! The food was so well prepared. I think my favorite thing was the beet salad and the risotto! We may have almost tried the entire menu. The pictures do it enough justice! The dessert was actually maybe my favorite instead- I could have eaten a tub of that banana cream pie. Then rolled around in it. Spectacular.
Prob my favorite place to eat in the Denver airport. And I don't like eating in airports. This place always has ample seating so you if need a break between flights and a meal it's a good place to stop. The food is absolutely delicious with really big portions but that also comes with a heavy price tag as most airport restaurants do. The service is also exceptional here and you won't be waiting long for anything you need. It can get packed from time to time. Normally I avoid eating at the airport at all cost but if I must I don't mind stopping in here
Super cozy and welcoming spot in Denver. My friend and I walked in on a Sunday evening and were able to get seated without a reservation. Their bar area is beautiful and we enjoyed our dinner sitting there. I started with their bean salad which was super fresh and had a lovely vinaigrette. We then shared their brussel sprouts, gnocchi and scallops. All of which had unique flavors and tasted fresh. I also really enjoyed my ginger/coconut mocktail! We ended the night with amazing chocolate chip cookies and a scoop of ice cream. Service was perfect and we would definitely come back.

Went for Valentine's dinner where they had a special menu for couples. What a delicious evening of great food, service, and wine pairing. Unique menu items for Valentine's dinner was worth it. Definitely save room for dessert, they had great options!

This was not what I expected but was quite surprised. The setting is rustic modern with a sense of high end dining but in a casual way. The bar was prevalent to the right as we entered. We were coming from an event and didn't have a reservation. Though the place was relatively empty likely they had space reserved and we were sat at the back of the bar in an awkwardly positioned "booth". The party sitting as we were sat decided to leave before ordering. Looking at the menu I noticed a beet salad and my sister loves beets so I figured she would be okay. The menu is select but a choice for all diets, but limited. My sister had the beet salad and I ordered the chicken opting to not take the waitresses suggestions. The food was surprisingly well seasoned and tasted good. We both ate all of our food with the highlight being the bread appetizer. This is more suited to those who are foodies. Not a steak and potatoes kind of place. Bring your refined palette
For me, Root Down was just OK. We went for brunch and the menu had lots of allergy friendly food for my friend. The cocktails looked great, but I stuck with coffee and Diet Coke (which came in a carafe). The food I will say was pretty average, the veggie burger sliders were OK but the sweet potato tots were yummy. Don't care too much to come back here but was a fun environment for a birthday brunch!
Somehow, we had the impression that this place is vegan. We ordered a chicken plate expecting vegan chicken. It turns out that the place is not 100% vegan. Excuse my ignorance, but I could not understand their Three Chile Chicken. It literally comes out with 3 pcs of chicken and it costs $27. I must stress that they took 1 pc of chicken thigh and sliced it into 3 pcs. You can call it 3 pcs but 1 pc is 1 pc to me... I wonder why it costs so much. Perhaps, ingredients are organic but I was not really appreciating the price... read more

Highly recommend this restaurant for brunch! Had the best lamb burger over there with a sunny side up egg on top. Their masala tofu was fantastic and the Lox bagel looked pretty inviting! They have fantastic pastries every day as well. I am not sure if it is a Denver thing, but the service is below average. Waitress took the orders and came back with the check. A person kept refilling our waters and the manager checked in on us. The waitress needs to improve her customer service skills. All in all highly recommend! read more

Outstanding. The end. The restaurant is located in what seems to be a residential neighborhood, "off the beaten pass". We managed to score a table on Sunday night with a very short notice (call few hours in advance), so we definitely got lucky. Very modern/hip looking place, with large garage door being an entrance to the patio. Nice wine list - not very large, but good selection, including by the glass. We had a bottle of Hook and Ladder California Pinot Noir, which was outstanding. The food style should be identified as creative American, with a big effort to use local and seasonal ingredients. The menu offered "Sunday night dinner" options, which was essentially a tasting menu, appetizer, entree and dessert with a few choices for each, at $35 - this is what I took. The roasted beet salad was delicious, combining yellow and red beats with red beat pesto - outstanding. Rockfish wa served in aromatic broth and was perfectly cooked and succulent (I managed not to leak the plate). Lemon basil sorbet was a riot - as I really love both ingredients, the intensity of the flavor was simply a standout - I would eat it again at any day. Excellent, friendly, attentive service, patient and with a smile (thank you, Shannon!). Most highly recommended. read more

Enjoyed my 30th birthday brunch here. We thoroughly enjoyed the mimosas and cocktails we enjoyed and the food was delicious light fun! Sorry I don't have a picture as we devoured it but everyone ordered something different and we enjoyed it all, I specifically remember the duck wings! This is the perfect brunch spot! After being overwhelmed by the extremely long wait at Snooze & Sam's a bartender recommended this place and couldn't have done better! It's all made from scratch with locally sourced ingredients. It's the place locals go to enjoy amazing food and brunch cocktails. They also have a big screen projector so you can still watch the game! Must try this place!! read more

Was so excited to try this place, booked a few days in advance for my boyfriends birthday dinner, to our surprise, the day of our arrival was very snowy and our flight got delayed, called the restaurant and they were accommodating to getting us in. Arrived two minutes before they were supposed to close and still feel like our service was top notch and so was the food. Highly recommend the lamb sliders or arepas or both to start, the butternut squash risotto with scallops had flavors that were out of this world! Like Linger, Root Down (Linger's sister restaurant!) is one of my favorite places to eat for any occasion. We went to Root Down for brunch for my sister's birthday and loved every bite of every dish we ordered. I started with their house chai with soy. It had a great balance of sweetness and spice. I love soy milk with my chai and I think it really elevates the flavors that a chai tea has to offer. I got the Huevos Rancheros benedict and we got the Huckleberry French Toast to share. The Huevos Rancheros were delicious. It wasn't the traditional stacked benedict with the bread on bottom, protein in the middle, and poached egg on top. This benedict had all of the ingredients made into a patty form (the tender pork, black beans and poblano peppers) along with the poached eggs on top with crispy tortilla chips and a mole verde sauce. I loved how unique the dish was and it was packed with flavor with a hint of spice. Alongside came potatoes and a fresh arugula salad. The potatoes are a variety of savory and sweet potatoes. They are soft on the inside and crisp on the outside. I know it sounds simple, but they are some of the best breakfast potatoes I ever had. The arugula salad added freshness to the dish and I loved eating it with the huevos rancheros to cut the richness of the poached egg. The Huckleberry French Toast is not your traditional french toast. The bread is a large slice of banana bread that added extra flavor and moistness. It was topped with a lemon goat yogurt, huckleberry sauce, and a pepita crumble. We all loved this dish. The banana bread was sweet and the lemon goat yogurt added that perfect amount of citrus and "funk" you get from goat dairy. The huckleberry sauce was tangy and fresh, and the pepita crumble added great texture to this dish. They give you the option to get the full portion (2 slices) or the half portion (1 slice). We got the full portion and finished every bite. Since it was my sister's birthday, the restaurant offered her a free chocolate pudding dessert. This was the best chocolate pudding I ever tasted, no joke! It was sweet, salty, and bitter from the coffee flavor. The pudding was thick, velvety, and creamy. I could eat this everyday! It had the perfect balance of flavors and each bite tasted better and better. I can't wait to go back! read more

I was visiting Denver for the weekend with some friends and decided to choose Root Down for our Denver dinner experience. I noticed the numerous positive Yelp Reviews and wanted to see if Root Down lived up to the testimonies. As a warning, trying to make a reservation the day of will be difficult as when I called for a party of four, they could only accommodate us late in the evening past 9pm. I was invited to come as a walk in as an alternative with a wait time of up to an hour depending on how late my party arrived. We decided to still try as it was earlier enough in the evening. Root Down is tucked away in a residential area and is somewhat discreet among the houses in the neighborhood. The design is eclectic, having been a filling station converted into a restaurant. It makes for a fun and open vibe with garage service doors on either side of the main bar, which over the summer, I imagine, may give the place a more open air feel. The decor and ambience is eccentric and hipsterish, but still inviting. Again, it is a good sized restaurant with a main dining area and additional seating with booths, high tops, and a bar area on the opposite side of the restaurant. We arrived at 7pm and fortunately the hostess informed us that they were able to seat us at a booth on the bar side if were able to finish by 8:15 as there was a reservation. We took the opportunity as it was ample time and got us seated immediately. Our server, was very welcoming and attentive. Providing adequate explanations, recommendations, and made sure we were satisfied. We were also informed that they just introduced new menu items that evening. The cocktails were made well and decently priced. Some of the food items, particularly the entrees were pricier. For anyone with diet restrictions or who are looking for Vegetarian or Vegan options, Root Down offered a variety of menu items. Two of us, including myself, ordered the Flank Steak, one the Tofu, and one the Rock Fish as pictured. The Tofu and Rock Fish were exquisite. Unfortunately, the Flank Steak was disappointing. Being a visitor, I did not want to bring it up despite discussing and critiquing it with my party. Our server actually inquired to ensure we were satisfied, and I could not help but to express my disappointment. After listening, our sever reassured me that it was important that I voiced my concerns and recommendations, especially since the dish was a new menu item, and was grateful for the feedback. A little later, the Manager came to our table, as our concerns were escalated. Overall, the situation and our concerns as guests to this restaurant were handled exemplary and our feedback and critique was appreciated. As for the Desserts, all I will say is that the Banana Crème Brûlée Pie is amazing and a must try! All in all, Root Down, lived up to all the positive reviews and I am honored to post another good review for them. I look forward to visiting this place again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great dinner and excellent service. read more

Wowww this was so good. We made reservations almost two weeks in advance for a Sunday night at 7:15PM but when we arrived there seemed like there were still some empty tables. Maybe they take walk ins? They offer a special on Sundays where they give you a three course meal for $35. It's very worth it when you look at the prices on the menu. They have an awesome cocktail list! I got the Cane and Able. I love balsamic vinegar so this drink was amazing. For food, we got the black gnocchi, the tofu panzenella, the arepas, and a dessert. The black gnocchi was amazing. If you're a gnocchi fan, get this. If you're not a gnocchi fan, still get this. The tofu dish I could have done without. It wasn't that flavorful - just some fried tofu with grains. The arenas were soooo good. The sauce that it comes with is just unreal. We shared dessert with our dinner guest so we got to try two: apparently there was a special tonight for an orange themed custard and the other one was a very dark chocolate fudge. The orange custard dessert was probably the lightest most delicious dessert I've ever had in my life. Our waiter said they don't normally have this on the menu but maybe keep asking for it so they can make this a regular item. The dark chocolate was way too dark for me but that's just personal preference - I'm a milk chocolate fan. The service is great. Our waiter was hilarious and offered amazing suggestions all night. PARKING - There is street parking in the area, as well as complimentary valet parking. If you prefer not to drive, there is a B-cycle station about a block away (next to Avanti). SERVICE - I wouldn't recommend going without a reservation. My group did and we waited around an hour (maybe more) and were told that we could be sat only if we could finish our meal in an hour. I wouldn't bother trying to call; I could never get through. When I did, I just got sent to voicemail. Use OpenTable or another site. Our waitress was attentive and helpful in providing us brunch suggestions. FOOD - The bottomless mimosas were a bit pricey; however, they serve them in regular glasses. I definitely got my money's worth. It seemed like a lot of people chose to get blood orange and I really enjoyed it as well. We shared the pastry basket (blueberry muffins with blueberry jam and vanilla chai butter). Those were some of the best muffins I've had, made even better by the butter and jam. I would go back just for these. I wasn't as impressed by the breakfast burrito. It was good but not amazing. The sweet potato fries were good and I loved the curry yogurt sauce they serve with them. Overall, I would return to try their other non-brunch items. Definitely recommend Root Down. read more

My husband and I went here for our date night and it was a great choice! I got the Moroccan chicken and he got the diver scallops. Both were sooo flavorful and amazing! The chicken was probably one of the most tender chicken I've ever had. The ambiance and our server were amazing as well. We'd probably go again! read more

This place never disappoints! Today was my first time sitting outside and what an amazing overcast evening in Denver. My server Morgan was the best! I often eat alone why traveling for work and finish up my follow-up from my day why eating. She was so thoughtful to my working. Root Down, just like it's sister restaurant is Vegan Friendly and so thoughtful to dietary restrictions. This will always be a Denver fave of mine! read more

Do they have ramen at this location like at the airport?
Was at this location less than a month ago and there was not a ramen item on the menu. They do however have a "chefs special" menu that is presented once you sit that I assume rotates around.. but cannot guarantee ramen would be on there.
Reservations for brunch?
You can make reservations for brunch. I would suggest making reservations since the seating is limited and brunch on the weekends is very popular.
I have a severe peanut and shellfish allergy. Can Root Down accommodate those allergies?
HI - I have a shellfish allergy and they have handled that well. I assume that they can also handle peanut allergies. I have a high degree of confidence, respect and admiration for their kitchen. We dine there a few times each year.
Are the outdoor heaters strong enough to keep you warm on a moderately cold winter evening?
I have not sat outside yet... but being naturally cold and a native, I always tend to dress warmer just in case.
Is it dog friendly for the patio? And are there heaters?
Heaters yes, dogs no. It's such a bummer

Friday, Saturday and Sunday...according to my experience and their website.
Are dogs allowed on the outdoor patio?
Yes, it's suppose to be Dog Friendly establishment. I've been to happy hours and lunch on Fridays, never have actually seen a dog there. Call and ask they are really decent to deal with.
