I got the vadouvan cauliflower with a side of crispy tofu and it was seriously one of the craziest, most delicious meals I've ever had. Like a savory everlasting gobstopper. We took a gamble and showed up to Root Down on a Friday night, sans reservation. When we arrived, they told us they would seat us as soon as possible, but they were pretty booked up. We ended up only waiting 15 minutes or so, and really enjoying some drinks and sweet potato fries (highly recommend!) in their bar area. Root Down has a pretty small menu that includes a few soups, salads, small plates, and entrees. Even so, there were plenty of vegan and gluten free options, and my friends and I shared several of the small plates. We LOVED the Colombian Arepas and Red Rice Risotto, and also enjoyed the Dungeness Crab and Avocado Tacos. Though very satisfied, we ordered a dessert of Banana Creme Brûlée to split between us. We were not disappointed, it was so so so delicious. I will be coming back soon! read more

Came here with local friends for our last night in Denver. We hit the Sunday night special which comes with an appetizer, entree and dessert for $35. What a deal! I had the pork belly tacos which...my God....bursting with flavor and just so damn delicious! The crispy corn bits really stood out as well as the large pork belly pieces. For the entree I had the Rockfish Tom Kha which was also a slam dunk! The coconut sauce on the fish was so flavorful. Fish cooked to perfection. We finished with bread pudding which was so huge I couldn't finish it! Usually for restaurant week specials, each portion is so small. But here...each dish was large and satisfying. I also had the sangria which was also delicious. We will definitely be back next time we are in Denver! Keep up the good work! read more

I love everything about this restaurant! I stopped by to check out their happy hour after seeing reviews on Yelp. This restaurant is environmentally friendly in its structure (75% of the restaurant was built and recycled materials) and its practices. They source from local farms which is a huge plus in my books. I ordered the duck wings and the lamb slider, each cost $5. The duck wings comes with 3 pieces and is smothered in a delicious sauce that has a little of a spicy kick. It comes with pickles to refresh your taste buds after you eat the wings. The lamb slider was a great size for a slider, juicy, and a perfect cook. Plenty of free street parking around and I believe they also do valet parking. Great customer service. I will definitely be back next time I am in Denver. read more

Came here at 12:30 on a Sunday for brunch. Wait was about 45 minutes. Not horrible and was pretty much the exact length that was quoted. We got bottomless mimosas--they have classic or blood orange--and I got the breakfast burrito without cheese and with soyrizo. It was incredible. It was packed with flavor, had the perfect amount of heat. If I come back here, I think I would order that again because it was delicious and didn't seem like it was lacking anything. The atmosphere is adorable, it is not overdone and is quite "mid-century modern Denver." Only complaint about the ambiance was that it was cold. This was on a day where it was maybe high 40 degrees out so you'd think they would have had the heat pumping in there. We kept our coats on most of the time. The service was ok - nothing great. The nothing-to-write-home-about service and how chilly it was inside are the reasons I am not giving it 5 stars. Would give 4.5 if I could. Overall, highly recommend and will be back! read more

Anniversary dinner for two couples was made special with wonderful food and excellent service! Our whole party loved the cuisine, beautifully presented dishes, and the vibe on the patio. Lily was our server and her warmth, knowledge of the dishes, and expert timing added so much to our great experience. I recommend trying any of their specialty drinks and loved the fizzy ginger & coconut water concoction! Called to make a compliment to manager Deb. She enthusiastically agreed that Lily is great and she took a moment to explain the restaurant's philosophy of preparing food with fresh and local ingredients prepared in artful ways and served such that patrons most enjoy the experience (my paraphrase). We are in from Houston and came to Root Down after multiple friend and family recommendations. Making a reservation through Open Table was easy. We arrived and were seated right away. My husband is newly sober so the mocktail options were perfect. We ordered the crab tacos and Moroccan chicken. As India food enthusiasts, accustomed to a lot of flavor, we were delighted and surprised. For dessert we had the Banana Creme Brûlée Pie. Wow. Our waitress was great. Fantastic start to finish! We listed it was my boyfriend's bday through OpenTable and he was greeted with a card from restaurant that was very nice! Sydney our server was super friendly and attentive and kept our bottomless brunch mimosas filled! The new summer menu just went live today and the zucchini bread french toast was so damn tasty. I wouldn't really call it french toast but the thing was delicious. The zucchini bread was moist and the lemon yogurt and fresh strawberries from the restaurant's garden were juicy and sweet. I loved my fried chicken and goat cheese biscuits. Those were goooooooood biscuits. They ended meal with a free pudding for the birthday boy. Very nice touch. Loved this spot. Had to wait 10-15 min even though we had a rsvp. Our server was generally not attentive and we actually were helped by someone else for more than half the time. Other than that it was fine. Two of us shared: Roasted cauliflower, Devils on horseback, Colombian aprepas, spring pea risotto, carrot gnocchi. Generally the food was good, but nothing to rave about. Most average place in highlands. Last time I had a reservation I made on open table, I arrived and had to wait 20 minutes even with a reservation. I got the pork belly in huevos rancheros, the pork belly was as tough as tan bark. The lamb burger was so over cooked it tasted burnt and the sweet potato fries were cold and dry. Today I went back and I had the burrito and swapped the fries for sweet potato fries. Fries were cold and dry again. My cola I ordered was flat. I liked Root Down. Its fancy maze of table-ridden corridors and hidden nooks makes it feel like a dinner at a friend's apartment. The servers are attentive and accommodating - maybe just a notch below what it could've been if Root Down was actually a friend's apartment and their mom was serving home-cooked meals. We started off with a slightly delayed glasses of beer and cider, and a filling appetizer of scallops with plantains, edamame and pickled red onions. It stole the prize of best dish with tender scallops, delicious plantain hash and balancing pickled onion/ fried capers. I then moved on to the Kashmiri chicken with kale and grit cake, and while the chicken was delicious and its skin cooked to a fancy crisp, I barely touched the grits and tried to work around them. It just tasted so much better with just the kale, presumably perfectly massaged. Finally, I also sampled the Korean BBQ short rib and it was tender and fine for the most part. Extremely salty and nothing too memorable. So definitely not the best choice of all, and if I had finished it, it would very likely increase my sodium levels to what the American Heart Association would consider a time to befriend your neighbor cardiologist. read more

Root down is a fun little restaurant. I love the location and it has valet parking . The food I mostly delicious and the space is pretty cozy . They have healthy options to eat I'm sad they got rid of the froze' it was yummy . They also have a kids menu as well . LoHi is a fun place and I will be back ! read more

This place has the same owners as Linger and Vital Root which I have been to and loved, so I was super happy that Root Down was on par with its sister restaurants! Tip - you definitely need a reservation! Ambience - funky and inviting! Cool bar area with near chairs, lots of booths, and lots of windows. Food - this is the perfect place to bring friends who have dietary restrictions as they have tons of vegan, GF, and carnivorous options so there's something for everyone, even those without restrictions. Appetizer - we got the vegan cashew queso fundido which tasted delightful and just like cheese as far as I was concerned and I'm not vegan! Brunch entree - fried egg sandwich. Delishhhh! On a flaky, buttery croissant with creamy avacado, tomato, and gooey egg. Sides - loved their home fries. They make them with purple, orange, and yellow potatoes so their not only visually appealing but pack a nice flavor punch compared to basic home fries. Service - very attentive and friendly. We have Root down a second try after speaking to the manager. Our experience was much better and we really enjoyed he evening vibe there. Our waitress was knowledgable and peppy and they really tried to make up for our poor previous experience. We really enjoyed the beet salad and the lamb sliders. The flat iron steak was only OK in our opinion but the croquettes on that dish were The best We ever had!!. Some very unique dishes but sometimes they are a bit over the top (risotto). We would be back to hang on the patio for a drink and appetizer. We do however really appreciate the customer support and them caring about us! It means a lot! read more
