First they ran the empanadas through a heater oven. I expected deep fried or at least something fresher. The interior had a methane smell but there was a nice potato outside. I really liked the steak quesadilla one but not the spinach and cheese. The avocado sauce was a little thin IMO.

Delicious empanadas! We had them at the cinco de mayo festival. Spinach and cheese empanadas were good. Please add more vegan/vegetarian options! I'd love to come back for more.

Amazing empanadas filled nicely we tried the spicy chicken and the chorizo eggs and bean definitely 10/10. Excellent service as well.

Their empanadas are pretty decent! The breading is a little thinner and crisper than what I expected, more like Cuban style than the Argentinian doughy ones I enjoy but they were very flavorful! They have decent combos versus ordering a la carte and also make the scalloping of the empanadas differently so you can distinguish what you're eating-very inventive! Great little shop in the downtown area!

The good: - This place was close to the hotel I was staying and looked to be a quick option for lunch. - Empanadas were heated up after ordering. - 12 savory options to choose from. - The spicy avocado sauce was good. Then things went downhill from there. The bad: - I tried 3 different options (steak quesadilla, chicken, and beef). Taste didn't quite hit the mark. - $0.50 charge for each sauce. - Skip the chimichuri- oily and not much flavor. - And probably most concerning: the grab and go chops they sell were expired by 2 months.

I absolutely love this place. I can't tell you how many times I have been there and the food and service is always on point. I have probably tried every flavor of empanadas that they serve. Its a little building on the 16th Street Mall that is clean and well kept. It is mostly the type of place you grab and go but there is seating if you want to stay. I work in the area so I like to drop in for lunch and have done catering with them for the office. They are always friendly and work hard to fulfill orders in a timely manner. My favorite of all the empanadas is the Steak Quesadilla. The steak is tender and is accompanied by red peppers and onions with just a touch of seasoning wrapped in a crisp dough. Ham and Cheese is my second favorite. Full of melted cheese that gives the bits of ham a warm hug. The Chicken Caprese was delicious with chicken, cheese and tomatoes. Chorizo, Cheese and Egg is another outstanding choice if your hankering for a brunch type empanada. For vegetarians the spinach and cheese won't steer you wrong. Honestly, I have yet to find one that wasn't perfect.

Delicious empanadas! I cannot say more about them. They were crispy on the outside and had the best filling on the inside. I went in with a group of four and we each got two empanadas. I had the spicy beef and the spicy chicken. Both were fabulous. I had two sauces, the chimichurri and the avocado. I personally prefer the avocado, but Other people in my group prefer the chimichurri. Go big and get both! There is ample counter seating, and one bathroom on the inside. This is part of the 16th St. mall so there isn't parking right outside the restaurant. The service was fast and friendly. Gabriel and Jennifer were lovely. I apologize if I spelled either of their names wrong. We are visiting from out of town and all of us wish that we had this in our little town in South Carolina.

OK, it has been a few years since I have been here, and now I am asking myself, why did I wait so long. Hahaha. I had a beef empanada and a mushroom to start Both were so good and full of ingredients, the mushroom surprised me it was so tasty. I went back and got a spicy steak, yummm, I love spice.and another mushroom, ha. I guess I truly enjoyed that mushroom empanada. I will be going back. The staff were super friendly, they are made fresh to order so they come out hot. I love that. I got the chimichuri dipping sauce and the hot sauce. Both were delicious.

Came here because was around the block from the hotel I'm staying and weather was awful to walk anywhere else. Glad I found this place. Is a bit hidden, but cozy environment. People here were very friendly too. Empanadas are tiny tiny tiny, tho, but delicious. I ended up staying longer so I could finish my wine, which was surprisingly good and the fact they serve beer and wine.

We we're at the 16th St. mall visiting the museum for black girls, and wanted something to eat. So, we walked over to Lazo and came in as a party of eight ordering about 15 piñata's, everything from vegan to meet options. Everyone enjoyed their food. The service is fast and the food is delicious!

Honestly high quality empanadas, come out hot and flaky. Cheese ones are a little too cheese-heavy, but the chimichurri is great. Worth a stop for sure

While I was there though I was not going to pass up the chance to get some empanadas but since I didn't come with an agenda I just told the guy behind the counter give me two choices of whatever you think is good. I appreciated when instead of questioning or getting confused or asking a follow up he just "you got it boss" and entered in the choices without thinking twice. I knew that he was a real one for this. I got my mate which they have on tap! On tap mate is dangerous but it was very delicious. They had two flavors one mixed with orange juice and one that was simply sweetened (not overly sweet at all. Less sweet than any yellow canned mate you might be thinking of). I tried both choices and the orange juice one was really good but after a full glass I felt a little weighed down. I can't remember the last time I drank that much orange juice. The food comes out and this is where my review is going to get unhelpful. I have no idea what either of these are called and honestly I don't need to know. The flavors were on point for both. One was a traditional seeming empanada with a ground beef mixture on the inside. Not spicy but the flavors were robust. The outer layer of the empanada was also flavorful but fell apart a bit from the heavy sog of beef filling. The taste was still great for all of it and it came with some kind of chimichurri adjacent sauce on the side that was maybe the best thing about the empanada. The second choice was less of an empanada and more of a tart or small pie? It had cheese and corn for the filling and was extremely gooey. Like more gooey than it had any right to be. I don't need to tell you that the combination of crust, cheese, and corn was delicious. If anything it was maybe a little too simple but I could eat that any day of the week and be happy. I got a wonderful table outside under some shade and gave my baby daughter some bites of the meat filling. She loved it. Left after drinking two more cups of the standard mate and felt amazing.

Last Sunday (on the day many were getting ready for their Super Bowl gatherings), I was busy running some errands in Sunnyside neighborhood. All of a sudden, the thought of eating to entertain my 70% empty stomach hit me, I searched for the word "empanada" as I wanted some finger food and this restaurant came up in my search. Upon finding out that it was about 5-10 minutes away from where I was, it was a no brainer to me. This is a Venezuelan restaurant with almost 5-star review. Not knowing much about Venezuelan cuisine, my first thought was that they might have similar dishes as the surrounding South American countries like Columbia do. But most of all, I was so eager to try their empanadas. I've had Argentinian, El Salvadorian, Columbian and Nicaraguan versions of empanadas in the past. I wondered how different Venezuelan ones would be... I was warmly greeted by a young lady upfront upon arrival. This is a small/family style restaurant. The number of tables is very limited but you can sit outside as long as the weather permits. There was a large table of 7-9 people having a birthday party. I think I hit the place during the peak lunch time. Their empanadas are priced at $8 range. This was a bit pricey to me at the first glance but since I didn't know what kind of portion size they'd be made in, I thought I'd give them a try. I got me Reina Pediada, Sweet Domino and Fish. The total came to $27 with some change. Yup, you usually don't pay this much for a few to several empanadas but hey, like I said, I decided not to judge at that point. The young lady who took my order impressed me with some careful attention to detail. I placed my sunglasses at the ordering counter where the space was very limited. She had to move them just a little when she placed the credit card receipt for me to sign it. "I worked in the optics before." is what she said when she gently placed my sunglasses a little to the side in a very careful way. What a kind/considerate gesture that was! This kind of minor and yet incredible care didn't escape my notice. Thank you!!! When my food was ready, the same young lady handed me my bag. It was quite heavy. As soon as I got to my car, I opened it and there they were; my beautiful empanadas were large and dense/heavy!! They appeared to be all deep-fried so I wonder if Venezuelan style empanadas are all that way? Not sure. Anyway, I was on my way to a job duty so I had to eat quickly. I started to take a bite out of each one and ohhh yes, they were dense with a lot of fillings inside. Although I must frankly say that I like the flaky baked kind of empanadas more, these Venezuelan ones were equally impressive. Yes, this was a surprise find. I will definitely stop by here when I'm in the neighborhood for sure.
