This is a fun establishment. I ventured down to Brooklyn to try out this place after driving past several times. The roast beef sandwich is very tasty. The sweet potato fries are generous in portion. I had to wait a little longer than usual, probably in part because the sweet potato fries were prepared fresh. Originally they gave me mashed potatoes with gravy instead, so I returned it to the front counter and they corrected my order. Part of my order was for dine in, the rest was take home. They were nice to prepare it and have it ready under the heat lamp so it would stay warm for when I was ready to leave. A friend of mine came to play the spin the wheel on your birthday. She won a coin she could redeem at a later date. It was pretty cool. For little kids they also give them a balloon which I thought was cute. Very family friendly and a lot of space inside to do social distance indoor dining. The decor is a time capsule to earlier decades. The menu is pretty streamlined and the staff are nice. The parking lot is a little tight and fills up quickly. They have social distancing signs and when you order there is plastic covered area to protect their workers. The ordering experience was a little hectic because it's not very clear where to order; people are standing around in a few scattered spots. The roast beef sandwich was moist with the gravy, sliced thin and well done according to my order The cheese on it was a bit much; it oozed out and started dripping as I was eating the sandwich. The sweet potato fries were crunchy and hot. They gave a generous portion of sweet potato fries that were super hot, fresh from the fryer. It took a while to arrive but was well worth the wait. This old school establishment was an interesting experience. While eating the sandwich, I did not think it was too salty but after my meal my afternoon was spent sipping water. I'm not sure if it was from the fries or the sandwich itself. Other than that, I had a pretty good time. Next time I will probably go for a roast beef without the cheese. read more

Fries with cheese was super yummy but I recommend eating it when it's hot (it gets cold pretty quickly so definitely eat it as soon as you get it)! Came to pickup a busted fridge from them (by my employer) and decided to grab lunch being the food looked good. Looked like a nice environment as well. I was very let down when I went to pay and was denied because my card did not have a chip. They said they couldn't swipe my card. First time here because it's so far out. Heard they're famous for their roast beef sandwich and fries so that's what we got! The roast beef sandwich is cooked medium rare, and very juicy. It's not a lot of meat, but enough to be satisfied. It's juicy enough that the juice soaked through some of the food. The sandwich itself is $5.95, which isn't expensive nor cheap. The cheese fries were great, good amount of cheese but not smothered in it. The fries were circular and made great if you wanted to dip it in the excess cheese. Cost $3.95 which I'd say is a little on the cheaper side for cheese fries. Chicken tenders ran $5.95 and only came with about 5 pieces. Probably the thing I regretted ordering since the tenders weren't too big nor exceptionally great tasting. A decent place for a quick meal but not some place I'd go out of way to come to. read more

Roll-N-Roaster as an institution. It's been around as long as I can remember. Although it's been here forever I had only been here once before. Today. I figured I'd stop in. Parking lot is super helpful in this area. I ordered the roast beef sandwich since that is their name sake. Also got fries which are small hand fried potato disks and some fresh squeezed orange juice. The roast beef sandwich was tasty. The slices are thin and they are covered with a very tasty gravy on a fresh home made bun. I know everything about this sandwich is done right, but I am not much a fan of roast beef and had to add some ketchup for flavor. The fries were tasty and the juice was good. The staff are friendly but the place is still somewhat dirty. Overall it's worth visiting to experience this Brooklyn landmark. They only let you spin it if it's the day of your birthday and the day after. What a bummer! This place is big with a lot of seating. It is like a cafeteria. You order at the counter and seat yourself. There is a parking lot outside but there is not a lot of spots. I had their roast beef sandwich before. It was pretty decent. Might've been better with cheese but they do give a good portion of rose beef. My go to order is the western burger. I like the combination of the cheese, barbecue sauce and onion rings in a burger. What you're getting is an honest to goodness, freshly cut, hot roast beef sandwich. You can add cheese whiz or Italian cheese but for this Italian kid? It was the best thing in my world growing up. I had to take my son here for lunch. Both him and his brother were born in Smithtown Hospital. I tried my best to hit up the old spots but somehow Roll-N-Roaster slipped thru the cracks. We walk into the same spot my grandparents did ordering lunch. The menu board font is still the same, thankfully no one updated the place. That's a good thing, You can get a little nutso in here but we decided to keep it old stool, (2) Roll-N-Roaster Roast Beef sammys on a kaiser roll and fries. I ordered sweet potato and he ordered potato french fries. The sandwiches come to us, man what a treat. Freshly cut roast beef on a roll. Heaven. The french fries are shaped round like pickles, its always funny to see. How do they get the same yield cutting it that way I will never know. I'm watching families come in with their kids, construction guys, take out orders being picked up, Roll-N-Roaster has been a neighborhood staple for generations. The decor looks to be like someone unearthed a time capsule from the 1950s where drive up service and neon colors were in vogue. That said, the decor never looks tired, just very retro given the care they put into it While some controversy exists over whether Roll N Roaster makes the best Roast Beef Sandwich or if Brennan and Carrs does, my answer is to just get both and enjoy the different ways each approaches the fine art of sliced beef. At Roll N Roaster, the best (And in my opinion, only) way to go is getting a roast beef sandwich with a bit of vinegary hot sauce over the top. Don't be alarmed that the bread is a bit crusty - Roll N Roaster fresh makes them every morning so there's no preservatives in the bread. I should have ordered the highly recommended roast beef sandwich, but I was never a fan of roast beef so I went with a grilled chicken sandwich. I asked the cashier if that was a good option and she said yes, but I was surprised to see it just literally a piece of grilled chicken in-between 2 buns. I was expecting something else-- like maybe lettuce/tomatoes? Is that too much of an expectation for $4 something? If you love cheese, Roll N Roaster is a must when in Brooklyn. It is the only one that exists in the world! They are known for their roast beef sandwiches which I have recently tried, I usually always get the cheez burger. The roast beef sandwich was good. It wasn't the best, but it was good. The roast beef was a little tough and dry, which made for a messy sandwich experience because I had to pull pieces with my teeth rather than it being tender enough for me to chew Into. The flavor was pretty good though. The cheez burgers on the other hand are my fav! The edges are charred while being juicy and soft on the inside and the buns are always fresh and soft. They are thin patties, so don't expect anything on the thick side. Don't let this stop you from ordering though, because they are flavorful and hit the spot. My other favorite from here is the corn fritters! They are so crispy, not greasy at all and the inside is filled with creamed corn. Yummy. The fries here are oval shaped along with the little paper ketchup cups, which makes them unique and memorable. They are also your classic crispy outer edge potato, soft inside and extra delicious when doused in cheez. Also they have the BEST lemonade. Period. Looks far better than it tastes. Also asked if they had any other types of cheeses, was told that they have Swiss and mozzarella, then asked for Swiss in place of the yellow cheese. Was given the same standard cheese that they put on everything anyways. When brought to their attention, at first first lied to my bf and said I didn't request that, when we had a whole distinct discussion about the cheese choices. If they didn't have a variety that's fine but just say that or if you forgot just own up to it. Then when I came over and clarified the conversation we had just had a moment ago about it, it then switched to her and a fellow employee lying in sync, claiming that this was "Swiss cheese but just yellow" when it's clearly not. The quality is always the same, taste is always the same, and sometimes no change is good. I always have a cheez burger, cheez fries and root beer. It's always been my go to meal and I never switch. Why mess with perfection? This place hasn't been updated in years but why bother? That's what makes this place. The staff wears the same brown uniform as from the day that place was opened many moons ago. I love the classic feel, vibe and predictable menu.
