My first time here. I'm glad I came. There's a small parking lot which fills up quick. It's one way so you have to pull in a specific driveway. It's an old school place which I love. I believe it's been there for 56 years. The side I walked in you had a huge counter with the menus above. I'm not sure what they are famous for but burgers, roast beef, hot dogs, chicken sandwiches and more. I had the cheeseburger and fries which are baked like chips. Awesome touch. The orangede was delicious too. We also got a free pizza with our order, which I believe was from spending a certain amount. Seating is right behind the counters and they had tables and old school booths for the tables. Great spot and I can see why they've been around for so long. read more

Okay, I'm ready to cast my vote in Brooklyn's "Roast Beef War." Roll-N-Roaster vs Brennan & Carr's. Both restaurants have been in business for well over half a century with well-deserved accolades. Despite having grown up in Brooklyn, I hadn't been to either before this year. I read reviews and actually asked ChatGPT what to order at R-N-R. We went with its suggestion: medium roast beef with cheese, onion rings, root beer and lemonade. My sandwich was more well-done than requested. They don't offer 'rare'. The few bites with red meat were infinitely better than the rest of the sandwich. The roll, as everyone points out, is baked in house. Though light and puffy, it didn't outweigh overdone beef. Onion rings were great, root beer average, and lemonade -- per my husband who loves lemonade -- excellent. While I wouldn't balk about returning, my vote goes to Brennan and Carr, though truly, when cooked as requested there is no substantial difference. If you take the train, get off at Sheepshead Bay Road and head south. Turn left at Emmons Avenue and keep walking. Twenty minutes all told. read more

After 55 years, this family oriented fast food shop known for its famous roast beef sandwich and other popular greasy goodness is still standing. I swung by recently for my usuals and glad to report that everything still tasted the same, just slightly more pricey year after year as expected. My regular order has always been the Roast Beef w/ Cheese, which was maybe $4 when I first tasted it over 25 years ago. It is now $9.45 or $.50 less for no cheese. Regardless, the roast beef (medium) is still tender and juicy, piled on top of a soft and pillowy, freshly made bread that's been dunked in a bath of delicious beef gravy. The ooey gooey cheese makes it complete for me. Everything else is solid. Nothing fantastic or worth driving out of your way for. Don't come here looking for the best version of everything on the menu. Roll-N-Roaster is a Brooklyn treasure. This is one of the most unique and special restaurants I have ever been to. I finally made the pilgrimage today and it was beyond worth the trip. The menu is large and seemingly random but somehow perfect. Juice is a great accompaniment to beef sandwiches, apparently. There is also great coffee and even bottles of Moet if that is your thing. The signature sandwich is everything I hoped it would be. Make sure to get the beef juice cup for dipping. Everything I tasted here was exceptional from the roll, to the beef, the fries, the espresso, and the orangeade. On top of all that, there is somehow also a free pizza? Nothing is better than free pizza, especially a delicious thin crust bar pie like this one. The decor in this place is a throwback to like a 70s or 80s family restaurant. I would say it's a nostalgia trip but nothing about Roll-N-Roaster seems entirely typical for that time or any other. When I went today, it was packed, but they moved quickly and efficiently. This place has it all figured out. The only downside to Roll-N-Roaster is that I live kind of far from it. That's probably a good thing. If I lived too close to here, I would become very, very, fat. We don't spend a ton of time in Sheepshead Bay because it's a little out of our way, but we love a post-beach adventure at this Brooklyn landmark. It's huge, it's affordable, it's the most casual (good for when you're in a damp, sandy bathing suit), and it rocks a menu that hasn't changed in the past decade, and maybe not in the past half century. I don't know anywhere else that you can get a glass of wine for $4.95 these days, or a beer for $4.45. Order whatever sounds good to you, but know that: 1. You should get cheezburgers. I personally prefer their simplicity to the roast beef, even if the latter is what they're known for. 2. You should also get roast beef. At least once, and definitely dipped, or with the gravy on the side. The gravy makes it. 3. The rolls are all baked from scratch. Appreciate some fresh bread, in a world where almost all affordable burgers come on a potato roll. Yeah, sometimes it may not be quite as fresh as others, but I still love it. 4. Yes, you can get cheez on anything you pleez. And you should. 5. You should add on something you've never gotten every time. Wings, clam strips, a fried shrimp cup...It's all going to be way more affordable than you think, and likely the best or the worst. Someday I'm getting the bottle of Moet for $59.95. To celebrate just being at Roll-N-Roaster. 6. You shouldn't sleep on the pizza. Yeah, it's not GREAT, but it's pretty solid, and it's somehow $4.95! It's thin crust and it's perfect for kids. And this isn't a personal pizza, it fed four kids with some leftovers. Unbelievable steal in 2025. 7. You should get at least one milkshake (to split, probably). They use a full pint of ice cream in each, and they are amazing. 8. Lastly, you should go on your birthday so you can spin the wheel. Growing up in Queen taking the trip to Roll-N-Roaster was a birthday tradition. You spin the wheel, get your Roll-N-Roaster coins and have an excuse to come back again (as if the food wasn't enough of an excuse). Now that I've moved away it's become a requirement to stop in. Their milkshakes are to DIE for. They're packed with ice cream but blended into a smooth and silky drink. You won't find fries like this anywhere else in Brooklyn. They're round crinkle cut fries that are the perfect ratio of crispy and salty. Make sure to get them with cheese!!! Their mozzarella sticks are gooey and have a cheese pull that stretches for miles. Every other side on the menu is fantastic so you really can't go wrong. Plus they give you a pretty large portion. The star of the show is the Roast Beef Sandwich. Like the fries you're gonna wanna ask for it with cheese. It feels like Roll-N-Roaster hasn't changed its interior since opening in the 1970s and I wouldn't want them to because that's part of the charm. What can I say about this staple? Amazing! I came in on a Thursday night around 7pm and the place was crowded. I ordered roast beef sandwich with cheese, roast turkey with cheese, fries with cheese, and mozzarella sticks. Needless to say I was hungry! Walking into the restaurant it may as well have still been the 70s. Which is a great part of their charm. I loved the interior and vibe of this place. However it's the food that matters. As you can tell from my score I wasn't too impressed. I got the lemonade, roast beef sandwich with cheese, and cheese fries. I'm not someone that would normally eat roast beef sandwiches. Their menu looked great but I wanted their signature items. I will say the best thing was the cheese fries. I was genuinely surprised at how much I enjoyed them. They were thin and crispy. The cheese of course elevated it. The lemonade was good. Refreshing and sweet. The roast beef sandwich with cheese was just ok. All in all I paid $20 for my meal. So I will say it is pricey. If I could've gotten everything for at least $16 I'd be happier. I'm more than willing to come back here. I want to try their burgers. They also had other great options on the menu that I'd consider. Roll N Roaster definitely feels frozen in time from its inception in the 70's, and people like it that way. I wonder if I had gone as a kid in the 90s it would have felt less retro but as a thirty something going in the 2020's I can appreciate the novelty of it since there are very few places like it in nyc. The speckled stained glass effect of the backlit menus behind the counter, the old tiles, and mustard colored booths feel straight out of a movie set. I don't eat red meat, so their signature item, the roast beef sandwich, was off limits to me. But I wanted to partake in Roll N Roaster tradition so I ordered a milkshake, onion rings, and some cheese fries. These are items I probably consume about once a year, and as a once a year treat, this place was decidedly fine. Not terrible and not amazing. I did not finish my food. Would I return? Absolutely not. But I don't think this place is for me. I was surprised to see the amount of people who looked like regulars, ordering chicken tenders and roast beef sandwiches like it was just another Thursday afternoon and not like the nostalgic novelty experience I was treating it as. Something is a miss when we ventured to this establishment. The vibe remains the same as ever with friendly and courteous staff. However we couldn't really say the same thing with the food. We had the cheeseburger and western Cheeseburger with onion rings and at first they were cooked well but the taste was overly salty. The Roast Beef Sammie has an exceedingly large amount of Roast Beef, and it was absolutely sumptuous. The fries were more like thick potato chips, and they were very good; Just needed a little salt. Mozzarella Sticks were PERFECT. Stringy, delicious breading, yummy sauce to dip them in; A really nice item. The New England Clam Chowder was a little 'thin' - it could have been thicker. But the flavor was spot on - absolutely delicious. The only negative item: The Smash Cheeseburger. It was so burnt, I didn't taste the beef - There was no 'flavor' present at all. The restaurant was very clean-they even had a sink outside the bathrooms with staff continously visiting tables and cleaning them. They have a parking lot. The A/C was set to a good temperature. The sweet potato fries, the fries, the onion rings, the corn fritters were all delicious and NOT oily. The lemonade and orangeade were on point. Their chicken tenders are deliciously seasoned. Their roast beef is nice and thinly cut. Also, because of our order we were given a free thin crust pizza-it was good. We love a nostalgic neighborhood spot!! Roll N' Roasters have been around for as long as I can remember. I remember when their Roast Beef sandwiches used to be under $5! While their prices have gone way up since, I still like to come here every once in a while. Speaking of, their Roast Beef Sandwiches are a MUST here + taste just the same as it always has! Definitely order some sides to pair with the meal - you really can't go wrong, all their sides are good! My personal favorite is the Sweet Potato Fries, which is an ample amount! Another MUST HAVE is their house-made Iced Tea or Lemonade to top off your meal. Love that they also throw in their (flatbread) pizza for $40+ orders - it's mediocre, but a nice snack. Tons of seating and the wait may be a while depending on if you order inside or online. Overall, Roll N' Roaster is a place you have to pay a visit to if you're in South Brooklyn! read more

Food was mediocre. Clam strips were fantastic, the only thing they (and everything else) are mising is salt. There is not a single speck of seasoning on any single thing. Clam strips are fried wonderfully, with salt they'd be 5/5, but without they're a 3.5. Fries aren't cooked long enough so instead of crispy and delicious they're a soggy, unsalted mess. The cheese sauce tastes gross, almost like it's off. The gravy on the roast beef is decent, but also missing any seasoning. The roast beef is tasteless, and they definitely gave me more well done, as there's barely any pink whatsoever. Seriously, you might be busy but that shouldn't stop you from salting/seasoning your food, and cooking the fries properly. I can wait an extra minute guys, it's okay. read more
