Updated review: I noticed that the fish quality feels a lot better and very rich in flavor. I am specifically speaking about the Tuna & Salmon. It has very good flavor and I enjoy that the place sells SO much that you for sure are getting the freshest they have to offer. This place is still take out only, don't like the wait? Call ahead! Phone line will likely be busy BUT you can always call on your way there. It saves you a LOT of time. It's not so much the kitchen that lags it, it's putting in your order that can cause a delay. The lunch and dinner hours are flooded with people. Again, these workers do their absolute best when it comes to serving up orders. This place is decorated very minimally. They have their menu posted up with updated pricing and specials on the counter that you can check out. If I recall correctly, the restrooms are for employees only. The tables are stacked and they have a few chairs around for their guests that are waiting. They have few signs stating that they are take out only until further notice. Not sure if they plan to open it back up again for dine in. Place is very chill vibe, you don't need to dress up (or dress down). Very laid back, again take out only. If you plan to bring a date here, I recommend having your meal at a local park for a cute picnic. The service has improved significantly. I use to kind of feel like a certain staff member was a little rude but they're no longer there and the experience has gone up significantly. This place has such an amazing value for the low price they charge. A lot of other sushi places charge you a higher price for more rice, which I think ruins the sushi itself. This place gets by with less portions of rice, but their fish and avocado ratios don't go down as much. Service is reasonable, just don't expect a warm welcome or a pretty interior. Came here on a whim while visiting a friend. The workers were working very hard to churn out meals. No tables inside so you can't dine in but they do have chairs while you wait for your food. FOOD: I ordered the chicken and beef plate which came out to $8 after tax which is an incredible deal considering the fast food landscape nowadays. The chicken was a little dry but nothing a little teriyaki sauce can't fix. The beef was tasty and again, teriyaki sauce does the job. Make sure not to put too much sauce as it can get salty quickly and drench the rice underneath. Greens were okay and dressing was a little salty but that's not what I ordered for so it's okay. It seems like Roll and Grill has been such a great hit and been a great place for lunch or dinner. Yeah the amount of times this place is mentioned on social media and the occasional CSUF meme mention is clear, this place is known for being the holy site for grubbing on a budget. $6 for a chicken bowl and $7 for the chicken and beef bowl! While not mind-blowing, the quality and portion of the food is very high for the price. I just wish it was a little bit closer to CSUF but it's closer to Fullerton College (which is fair). Service is pretty much what you expect of the stereotypical local asian cuisine. Not too sanitary but you should already know what to expect since that is not the focus. Strong rotten fish smell smacked me as soon as I walked in. Dust everywhere. Dirty sticky floor. Dangerous Broken light fixture hanging above our heads. Someone please report this place! I think they've changed owners since it's not as good as it was before. The vegetable egg roll tasted very old, and they give more rice now instead of chicken. The fried potsticker was fine. The salad dressing is still the same. Still good value, but the chicken is really dry. They have a broken overhead light that was giving me a headache. The light is on with that broken fan and it's causing flash lighting right on the cashier line. I won't return until that's fixed because others who have light sensitive will get headaches too. This restaurant used to be my go-to place for delicious and affordable Japanese food over 15 years ago. I recently returned a couple of times to the restaurant for memory sake. Unfortunately, I could not believe how neglected and run down the place had gotten: torn up seat cushions, tables turned upside down on top of each other, a persistent out-of-order sign hung on the restroom door plus very dirty floors and walls. There were partially filled and used up squeeze bottles of sauce sitting on the counter for everyone to share. There is only take-out. As I waited for my order, I noticed one of the sushi makers had dried food on the visor of his baseball cap and T-shirt. As I watched him prepare food for other customers, I noticed he touched his cap often to push it back. The reason why he had dried food on his shirt was because he would grab the front part of his shirt to wipe off the sweat on his face then continued making sushi. He used a hand towel to wipe crumbs off the counter and knife after slicing different raw fishes. Then he would use the same towel to wipe his sweaty hand after removing his glove. He would put on a new glove for one hand, then repeat the same thing for the next customer order. By now I had lost my appetite and threw away my sushi. Have to wonder when the last time that the health inspector audited this restaurant. As for the grill, the meat is dry and flavorless. All things considered, I do not recommend and will not be returning. While I was leaving, I noticed another Japanese restaurant just across the street. I was pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness and nice ambiance. I will be coming here instead because their menu prices are comparable with more variety of food including ramen and vegan options. read more

Most are ordered to go. The employees are quick with your orders. No fail, the spouse would get the combo B with a salad. She likes the rolls that came with it. My youngest would get combo C, which has chicken teriyaki and an order of crunchy roll. He loves the chicken but prefer the beef on days he's not playing a match, I also prefer the beef which is very tasty. I would always get the baked volcano.
