Brought in a pair of Fischer skis and bindings to have them mounted and calibrated but they turned me away since they're not a Fischer authorized dealer. I can understand if these had to be drill mounted but the bindings are on a track! They can be slid right on and calibrated. After driving 10 miles there to check them out since they're new to the area, I was very disappointed that I was turned down and sent away. I just called their competition and got the bindings mounted the same day. They could have had my business but I guess they don't need it. read more

Fully staffed and it's easy to find assistance here. It's a busy grand opening weekend but there isn't that much Grand about their opening. Average sales on certain brands but nothing spectacular. It's clean and organized. Burbank definitely needed an REI so it's nice to finally have one. Can't wait to come back and buy new hiking shoes and back pack. This place just pisses me off. First of all, they don't really have all that much in there to sell, believe it or not, despite it being a HUGE store. Big 5 at 1/4 the size has 12 times as much STUFF. Using the Best Buy strategy of line them up at the register / rock-em sock-em hypnotize-em with glitzy shelving displays of scanty colorful fanny packs and such merchandise, most of the space is taken up by ginormous standing gondolas, cavernous cabinets and shelving containing surprisingly LITTLE. Plus what they're selling is not what you want, it's all overpriced THEIR brands. I still find their bicycle sales and repair department a bit weird. Exactly who is it for? Nobody is coming in to get a chain replaced, cables re-strung, or their flat tire fixed. Shelving and shelves and carded racks oh my! Best Buy should combine forces with REI and put THEIR STUFF in there as well. IT COULD WORK! That plus a Willy Wonka chocolate fountain. read more

I decided to throw up this review because I am rather surprised this REI location has a 3 1/2 stars rating. I'm guessing that's because a bunch of passive-aggressive Karens have been jumping on here to complain instead of actually speaking to the store manager about what is likely some minor and insignificant issue that could be easily resolved. I see one guy on here gave this location 2 stars because they didn't have the generator he wanted. Ooooookay. Not sure that warrants a negative review, but hey, humans are moody and petty, and that ain't changing anytime soon. You gotta take Yelp reviews with a grain of salt, especially since our society has become increasingly saturated with people that love to b*$tch about everything. From my own personal experience of having shopped at this REI for years now, I love this location. Everyone has been super friendly and I've never had any issues bringing anything back. They have great sales and a lot of good inventory. It's a fantastic REI and keeps up the proud tradition of the REI brand. If you have an issue with this place then hey, maybe go shop at Big 5 and tell me how much customer service you get there. read more

Came in to ask about repairs for a bike I was given as a gift. They told me I would have a turn around time of THREE TO FOUR days!! I can't take that time out of my schedule to not have the transportation. I ended up going to a smaller shop near by that were able to do the repairs same day. It seems like they are short staffed here because their turn around use to not be these many days. read more

I went in for bouldering rentals and they had what I needed. They were a little busy and, despite not reserving in advance, rentals were a breeze. I just wish they had a few more crash pads. The staff was really helpful in getting my first-time-climber-friends fitted for their shoes. As climbing shoes can feel really tight, it can be tough for a first timer to know which size to go with... The rental staff were patient and friendly when they went back and forth to get more sizes. I'm always surprised when I hear how much the rentals will cost... Maybe it's because I'm an REI Coop member, but they make it really easy for you to get the gear you need for your next adventure! read more

Karina was super helpful when I came in to find waterproof socks before my photo trip to Bandai Asahi National Park in Fukushima Japan. I'm such a dummy though - when I actually arrived in Japan, I was looking for the socks in my luggage and discovered that I left them in LA. I went to return an unused pair of shoes. They were in their original packaging, I had my receipt and I was well within the return window. The sales associate doing my return was so rude and gave me a really hard time saying he would "do it this one time" like he was doing me a favor. The more I questioned why he was giving me such a hard time the more rude he was. I was so confused by the whole situation. I won't be back. read more

One of my favorite locations because of the large amount of parking available. Being one of the newest REI's in SoCal, it still has that new feeling and so big and wide open. As with most REI's, their associates are great with knowledge and readily available when needed. And because they have such a large parking lot, their Garage Sales are a little bit more organized than the Santa Monica location. read more

The workers here act like you're beneath them. When I finally gathered my nerve to ask a simple question like, do you have this size in.... the worker act like it's such a insult that I'm talking to her. This was not an isolated incident. I've been a member of REI and shopping at their Arcadia and Northridge stores before these workers were even conceived. Somehow this store has managed to hire social justice warriors and these workers brings their values or lack of it into their job. read more

Little bit of a wait to get my ski boots fit but then again I was buying ski boots at the start of the season so that's expected. Staff was friendly and informed. Store was clean and followed restrictions on guest capacity; employees wore masks and sanitizer was accessible. Ski boot selection was decent but my shoe size only had one boot for downhill. Luckily the ski boot fit very well. Will definitely come back for more gear in the future. read more

So sad to see this REI location in Burbank go down the hill. While originally coming here specifically for the culture of a co-op and festive mood (not necessarily the organization of the store), I have to say my husband and I are throughly heart broken. Several times now employees are rude, aloof, do not want to help, say they will come back and don't, and if you question them they call the manager and claim they don't feel safe around you. What is the co-op teaching their employees? To abuse customers and claim they don't feel safe when they're asked to do a job? Bad business model. We will not be frequenting REI any longer unfortunately. read more

If you want to take your dog inside, say its for ADA. The guy at the door will trick you in to saying its a service dog only to get denied and say sorry we only allow dogs for ADA only. The employees do a great job in making you feel like you're being watched at every corner like some thief. The young lady with the flannel and orange hair. I have to agree with other reviews, amazon and backcountry.com are much cheaper, at REI the Patagonia Women's Silent Down Jacket was 249.00 w/o tax, I purchased it at backcountry.com for 230.00 including tax, free 2-day shipping. Although the staff are knowledgeable about the products, I would have to say their customer skills are lacking. I felt very uncomfortable, either I was receiving too much attention by a lingering employee checking to see what I was looking at or I was completely ignored. The store is beautiful, customer service at the shoe dept needs improvement. The older gentleman who worked there at around 1pm Sunday was unfriendly and rude. I was so bothered by it that I decided to get my family out of the store. Loved this store, but recently went to check something out with my dog. Been there plenty of times with him with no problem. Workers even coming up to us asking to pet him. On this particular day walked in with him and was immediately stopped by the greeter asking if he is a service animal. I said no and told us we can not be in the store. I told her I was just here a couple days ago with him. And with a rude tone and attitude told us. "Well I'm here now and I'm telling you, you can't be here with him, so please leave." this is one of my favorite stores since we live the outdoors. But to be greeted like that upon entry, they lost major points in my book. Also they do sell outdoor items for dogs. I've only been here 3 times, but each visit has been a delight because of the people who work there. Someone is always available to help you and they're super knowledgeable making it easy to get into new outdoor activities with confidence. My old lady and I bought a bike there today and didn't have a plan for getting our car and two bikes back home. Courtney was the employee that helped us buy the bikes and she offered to drop the bikes off at our house after she got off of work. Amazing! The customer experience is what makes this place awesome. She should not be allowed to work in the LA area. She is far beyond the point of being rude. This is a huge embarrassment for rei. Not only was she using slurs and foul language, she made a point of providing the worst service possible. I sincerely hope this employee is disciplined, and preferably fired. Came here with my hubby looking for hiking shoes; this place is incredibly equipped with anything you might need for camping, hiking, biking and many other outdoors activities. Tommy helped us out and explained the differences between all the type of hiking shoes and boots they carry. My hubby optioned for a pair of Timberland that are super comfortable and perfect for daily hikes - also very cool looking boots that can be use for everyday like. They only had a pair of size 9 and because one of the shoes was the display shoe it was much different in color than the other shoes that was always kept inside the box. Tommy explained that for that particular model they do carry only 1 size 9 so unfortunately they could not have ordered another pair for us. He did offer a 15% discount so the boots final prime was around $70 - very good deal for such a cool products. As my hubby will use them primarily for hiking purpose the difference in color is not really a big deal so we ended up buying them and he loves them! Thanks to Tommy and his patience!! read more

This store has its own private parking lot from the rest of the outdoor mall. When you walk in.... you just think how big this store actually is. Like all other REI stores, they have a big selection of hiking, camping, cycling, clothing, shoes, and other accessories. Most are meant for the serious outdoors person... and a lot of items are high end... and high priced. It seemed like they had an adequate amount of help, but they could've used more judging by the amount of customers walking around and checking out. I've heard some people wait for their once a year sale or buy the mark down items that people return occasionally. read more

Literally the worst COVID 19 reopening ever. This store has the worst organization for allowing people in the store. I have now been waiting for over 30 minutes to pay for my items and am waiting in a super long line on a Tuesday afternoon! It took me over 14 minutes at one point to move from one social distance circle to the next. On top of that their supply of camping equipment is as embarrassing as their service. What a DISASTER!! DO NOT TAKE YOUR BIKE HERE! Go to a dedicated bike shop. They had my bike for nearly 3 weeks and fixed nothing. I finally took my bike out of there and it was given to me with the parts that they had taken off in a bag. Not before they put blame on me for the service issues. I got nowhere with the website or the call support, every direction written or vocal just leads to a big loop of frustration. There is no refund on that membership they push so annoyingly. This is Corporate culture at it's worst hiding behind that creepy Jungle Ride/Kumbaya vibe. read more

Today I came in to take advantage of an REI members sale. I went to the register to make a purchase and a moron named "Ransom" behind the counter told me, despite the fact that he had my member information in front of him on his screen, that he couldn't give me a discount without a physical coupon. So I show him my email with a coupon code, and he said he needed the physical coupon and couldn't sell me the item. So I went home, picked up the piece of paper I was mailed from REI that had the exact same code as the email I showed him 10 minutes earlier, and drove back to the store to make my purchase. When I told him that the code was the same on the piece of paper I was mailed and the email I showed him and literally every other members code that was mailed and emailed the same promo, his response was "my bad bro". Whatever measure REI is using to filter out potential bad hires is clearly not effective, because this sale has been going on for days and I came in at the end of the last shift. There is no excuse for an employee to be this clueless about what's going on around them and there is no excuse for an employee to be so frivolous with the time of REI Co-op members. read more
