Shop at Arcadia REI. I'm never coming to Burbank REI again. The bike shop manager doesn't care if customers wait more than being told it'll take 30-60 minutes to change tubes. Two guys including the mgr are just standing around chitchatting while a frustrated obvious newbie learning as he takes longer than usually to replace the tire and tube on one tire. I ask if one of the guys chitchatting could do the other tire so as to be more efficient. He just kept asking me to sit down and he'll be done in 10 minutes. He obviously was not used to changing tire tubes. It costs $48 for the labor!!! I am currently w/a strained back. Such a rip off. I could have gone to bike kitchen and done it there with help. I foolishly thought getting it done at REI would be faster and with good customer service-I was very wrong. Recommend giving your business to local bike shops! read more

About a month Ago i put my foot on REI in BUrbank , i was smitten by how beautiful the store is and it was my first time and i thought how come i never seen it before . i bought one big Flask to take hot tea for my Mom in Nursing home and one cast iron skillet. The big flask i noticed with a hot water it becomes very heavy and with my Arthritis hand it was difficult to manage . the skillet i made omelette and after i tried to wash it but the food was stuck and i had to wash it 5 times and still looked dirty , i try to dry it with kitchen paper towel and it turned brown, i put it on my drying pad and stained it . so i decided to go back return the skillet and exchange the flask to a smaller version. The Manager came , unpleasant fellow try to convince me there was nothing wrong with the skillet , that i don't suppose to wash it ( Really so what you do , you cook on the top of the previous food , really !!) and only gave me store Credit , ignore that their skillet had ruined my drying pad ( i showed him my Drying pad with black lines left by this Skillet , and i washed it but the stain remained) , he did not exchange the Flask even dough it was still brand new . I made sure with the store credit he gave me , i get something very close to the number so i don't give them any profit . I will not put my foot in this store ever again or buy anything from them . Some Managers they think they are big shot and doing a big work for the store they work for but all they do is to loose clients . And by the way the only concern this manager had was to sell me $30 Membership, really !!!! You don't give my money back for the unworthy skillet , don't exchange the expensive flask to accommodate your client and you think i will spend $30 on your store , WOW !!!!!!! read more

This REI is a thumbs up! Plenty of inventory, and well laid out. Parking is ample. Employees are a bit hit and miss...the guy in the shoe dept got my husband's size, then went to have a long and casual convo with a woman in the store. When I went up to him a few minutes later and asked if we were still getting the shoes, he said he was going to do it but was talking to someone first. So unprofessional and not REI's standard of service! The person that helped us with trekking poles was very helpful and informative. Their customer service is pretty knowledgeable, helpful, and welcoming. The gear is top of the line and competitive with leading brands to their own REI brands which are honestly-- pretty good! The gear here is higher quality than your Army Navy store with burlap and itchy undergarments. So expect finer quality gear and come in ready to 'invest' in whatever you're getting because it should last for some time. I came in looking for a wet suit off season and first a nice guy went asking around and came back to tell me it was low stock, then the shoe section guy for Saturday night was very helpful bubbly & friendly with me. Then there was Korbi! She went ABOVE AND BEYOND. She helped me try on a wet suit that was way too small & helped me get it off & then came to find me in the other section and found literally the only wet suit pants that would work. SHE WAS AMAZING and made me feel so comfortable amidst my poor timing of coming at closing therefore chaotic. She was even supportive when I lost my phone. Then Savannah was my cashier and she was so helpful with everything I was carrying, patient with me, let me run back & get my phone made sure I got the 20% off and so much more. This store employs really nice and pleasant people, but seriously needs to hire more of them. This store is understaffed. When I got to the fitting room to try on some clothes, for example, all the stalls were being used. Once a person left a stall, and the door closes, you can't just walk in. It requires an employee to let you in. I wanted to go into one of these stalls, but couldn't since there were no employees in the fitting room area. I had to buzz for an employee to assist me. Once I got to the checkout area there were like 20-30 people waiting in line and only 2 to 3 employees at checkout. It took way too long for me to pay for my stuff. read more

She measured everything properly, adjusted the pack so it fit right, and explained what to look for when choosing a pack. she was patient, knowledgeable, and didnt rush anything, which I really appreciated. They're definitely a little overbearing here but I can't tell if that's just this location or whether REI has a requirement that every employee should approach and ask if you need help at least 5 times per visit. It's a bit much. Other than that, this store is nice. It's usually decent in terms of organization and also has a good selection. Their return policy is pretty awesome as well. In terms of the items that are for sale, they have quality stuff so they're definitely more costly. REI does offer their own brand as well (co-op) and it's cheaper when compared to the brands such as Patagonia, and similar. Every employee here has been nothing but kind and passionate and I do appreciate that despite my initial comment. They just need to tone down on that, haha. read more

If the store closes at 9pm, I expect as a business they remain open till 9pm. This isn't a restaurant where I get you start preparing to close earlier. They didn't even flip the sign. This location's staff is surprisingly unhelpful and frankly a bit standoffish. I came the other day for a pair of climbing shoes and it was almost like the staff was allergic to helping the guests. I had to chase down someone to help me two times and being semi new I was asking some very basic questions that I thought the staff would know. "How much do shoes typically stretch" "how can I tell how tight is too tight" "what's the difference between these two shoes." You would think I was pulling this guys teeth out by the way he responded. It was genuinely painful to get any insightful answers and he seemed so disinterested in helping me. After spending nearly 40 minutes in the store trying to figure out what size I needed, I ended up purchasing a pair and was told my the cashier when I bought the membership I would receive $30 store credit back. Never got it. Talked to a few people and they said their cashier either gave them a physical gift card or just gave a "free" membership with purchase. Didn't get it in email, didn't get it anywhere. The shoes I bought ended up being wayyy too small so now I'll be returning them. UPDATE: I went back today in the afternoon to return my shoes and one of the staff members there was extremely helpful. They were very proactive in helping me decide the best fit and checked in a few times to make sure I was happy with what I got. I guess the night staff was off the other day I came. read more

This is literally the first experience ever were two of the employees at the counter two men that are there right now we're extremely rude and unfriendly. I have never encountered such demeanor at an REI. I can't imagine if someone actually had questions and asked these two employees who are at the counter how they would approach them. They definitely don't wanna be there. They don't have any care for it taking care of the customers/guest. I wanted to shop around after I picked up my order which the guy just went to the back and when he came back, just popped it on the counter and said nothing. I was waiting to see if he needed a scan something or not and he finally says after some time you're all set to go and takes out his phone and begins to scroll on his phone. This other guy with long-haired and a beard had a terrible attitude when I went to return an item. They don't even end the conversation with you're all set. They just stand there and say nothing until it's awkward enough where they say OK you're good to go. Unbelievable behavior by REI employees. These two guys are right there right now. read more

We came here for a Subaru event and ended up attending a class about Composting. It was great and our instructor was great too. This store is like heaven. So much to see and buy. It is 2 story and huge, I mean huge. I was getting lost with all the great items in stock. Everyone who works there is so helpful and so many people asked if I needed any assistance. I usually go with a game plan so I do not over spend so didn't need any help. They had a great selection of camping items which is our go to items. My first time here and sadly my last. I was hoping that I would get some help with Brooks or Hoka's and I'm telling you there must've been four or five different employees walking around and only one after being there for over 10 minutes said I'll be right with you and then I waited another 10 minutes. She was nowhere to be found and I just gave up. Meanwhile numerous green vested employees looked at me and didn't say hello, can I help you, nothing. By the looks of the store I was excited to see all the things they have but I was sadly disappointed. Sales sales sales! Just got in on their most recent sale for a day pack and a backpacking mat. Staff at this location is very friendly and don't mind asking if you need help with anything. I like coming into the store and trying items on in person especially backpacks so you know the fit and rolling around on a mat to see the cushion. You can't know these things if you're buying online... They also have a membership deal where they credit you $30 back so your membership is basically free. It's a quick and convenient way to find your gear. It's the reason it gets my one star! When you go shopping for all your gear their constantly emphasize their 100% satisfaction guaranteed and mention it over and over. "Oh please try it and if you don't love it, you have one year to bring it back!" Well, we tried sleeping bags for camping trip and mats and inflatable pillows during a 2-night camping trip. They were awful; slippery uncomfortable fabric and bad zippers; so took it back and wow their attitude was different this time! They inspected every item carefully and when it was time to process the refund the associate warned us about going on their black list (refusal to sell us anything in the future again) since we were returning this many pricey items; granted that was only the quarter of the stuff that we had purchased and kept some items! I've made several large purchases at that same location before; bikes for the entire family, full hiking gear, finishing gear, etc... but after today, I'll stick with Walmart next time ! read more

Beautiful store but long lines. Located in the Burbank Empire Center, finding a parking spot was easy but getting into the lot was a test of patience. This was my first visit to this REI. It's the newest one locally and it's gorgeous, clean, organized, well-stocked, and ginormous! Prior to this visit, my favorite REI was in Woodland Hills. I love REI. I feel like a kid in a candy shop. My favorite part of being a member of the co-op is the free machine wax for your skis. Shout out to Jens at The Shop for offering great advice on skiing! The employees are vibrant, enthusiastic and helpful. Service: I have to say that I got some great customer service at this location. I got the helped I needed, everyone I spoke to was friendly and smiled the whole time. Ariana in the rock climbing section was very knowledgeable about her department, friendly, kind and didn't rush me. I left buying almost $200 worth of gear. She deserves to be recognized for her hard work. Another employee, Autumn checked me out and if she wasn't one of the sweetest cashiers I ever met... someone else that deserves a shoutout. As customers, we are so quick to ask for a manager to complain but then when people do their job well, we are as quiet as a church on Tuesday. If you can be vocal about complaints, you can be vocal when people do their job well. I really hope someone in management sees this and five those young women their flowers. Even though this is not the store I'm nearest to, this is the location that now has my trust and I will travel further to speak with the employees here. read more
