Every aspect of the Red Lion was amazing. From the nachos, to the chicken parm sandwich, and the Vail atmosphere.

Alvin is one of the rudest servers I have ever had- really ruined the whole experience. The host even had to come up to us to apologize and ask if we wanted to switch tables so he didn't serve us- all because there was a party of 5 sitting at a table for 8 and he "didn't want to lose a large table" when the place wasn't even busy. Get a new job not in the service industry Alvin, take your miserable attitude elsewhere. read more

We had no experience as we were asked to vacate our table by a rude host, who was not at the entrance when we walked in, nobody was waiting there, but us. Seemed like no host was on duty. We walked inside to the main seating where live music was on. Asked to a couple waitresses for a table and they informed nobody was closing their check for the moment. None of them told us the tables were in control by a host. Then, we spotted a party that was leaving, we sat, hung our jackets, had a waitress greet us, brought us water, explained the menu was the QR code, starting to look for the menu, and suddenly the host came and asked us to vacate the table as it was reserved. There really isn't much to say about Red Lion. It's an unpretentious, classic ski bar & restaurant ripped right out of the early '80s. There's ample indoor/outdoor seating, friendly service, large portions, and live music. The only downsides are the QR code menus (which seem in direct contrast to the old-school vibe of the place), while the food can get quite pricey. Ultimately, it's somewhat memorable and does have a certain "je ne sais quoi" going for it, but I can guarantee it's probably even more fun coming off the slopes during ski season. read more

The clients and locals mix well like the strong cocktails on Mondays. Live music starts at 5pm. Get a place close so you can stumble home. Leave the car keys in your chalet. So much fun here! Stopped for lunch after horseback riding. Ample seating during the day. Service was pretty quick. We ordered the BBQ Sliders and the Smokehouse Club. The sliders didn't come flavored and ended up being pretty dry, so I asked for a side of BBQ sauce. The club was delicious. Both came with lots of fries and 3 ketchup packages. read more

This place was awesome! The place to be after a day of skiing. The ambiance was top notch with live music! The service was fast despite how crowded the place was. The nachos truly were incredible. Food is pretty good and portions are HUGE! Do not get the Asian salad--it just wasn't good. The ribs are great and fall of the bone. The chicken club was delicious and filling. Chips and queso was okay..not sure it was worth the $10. Service was terrible! Perhaps our server, Raquel, was too busy with other tables. Worst food. Worst service. Staff not friendly or welcoming. They basically hate their jobs. We asked the bartender a few of the favorite drinks. She looked at us as if we asked a stupid question. Seemed like we were a nuisance to having to wait on us. Nachos were the worst nachos I have had. Piled so high, and in such a little dish, all of the toppings kept falling on the table. Stopped here after a day on the slopes. Was able to get a spot at the bar and was immediately greeted by the bartender. Ordered up some ice cold beers and thankfully they were the tall boys! We weren't going to eat but once I saw chili on the menu I couldn't say no, and I'm glad we got it! The bowl of chili was huge! Perfect for sharing. Angelita was the worst host ever. She wouldn't seat us at an 8 table because our whole party wasn't here then 6 people rolled in who spoke Spanish and she sat them at the 8 person table. Stopped in for a quick lunch. The waitress was great she was super cheerful and helpful. The place is probably pretty popular based on its location. I had the fish and chips was really good but the rest left something to be desired. The mac and cheese for kids was either not made fresh or whoever made it never made Kraft and cheese at home before. The burger was just OK nothing special. It was alright to get a meal. My Caesar wrap had too much dressing for my liking but the ambiance was nice. They had a live singer that was singing some bluesy tunes. Sometimes you just have to shake your head in disbelief... I was traveling alone and went there for dinner and I was told I had to sit in the bar area which was fine as I told the hostess I could watch a game on TV. The bar area wasn't busy and I started to sit at one table but the view of the TV wasn't great so I moved to the table next to it, which was the same size. The hostess told me I couldn't sit there because it was reserved for parties of five or more and I had to go back to the other table - again, the next table over that was the same size in a place that wasn't busy. We were happy to be seated immediately in this rustic & bustling pub type restaurant. The wait staff was very friendly and speedy. The burgers were great here, which I think what everyone in our party ordered. There was live music which we really enjoyed as it was played at a normal level & we could still chat. Usually this is an apres ski drink spot but Mrs G suffered a season ending injury. Anyway, the food was much bigger and better than I expected. I had the Iceberg Wedge Salad with Beef. If I could give this place zero stars I would. This is the worst old fashioned I've ever had in my life. I took my girlfriend here after dinner for a quick night cap and her dirty martini tasted like lighter fluid. I went there during covid but they had seating inside as well as outside. I was surprised to be able to be seated so quickly and the place was well occupied enough to think that they were doing quite well during these unprecedented times. I ordered a light order with beef stew and the tenders (with one beer) that came out to about $35 dollars in total. I think the tenders themselves cost $15 alone (without french fries) The tenders made it out with a good display of sauces as well as packets of ketchup. They came out with cole slaw, but I told them to do without it. Unfortunately, they ALL tasted undercooked, thick (as opposed to juicy) and biting into it gave off the pulled effect you feel when biting off hard/undercooked chicken. You may be able to see the undercooked look with the clam-soft middle area in the bitten tender. All the tenders were the same. I imagine this does not come out undercooked very often read more

Got takeout because they had options on the kids menu that my kids wanted. Got to our room and 3 out of 4 orders were wrong. We ordered 2 rice bowls (aka naked burrito) and both were missing the rice and guacamole. We chose "carrot sticks and ranch" for one of the kid's meal sides and they gave us bbq sauce instead. My 5 year old was upset lol. One of the rice bowls was mine but I chose it specifically to share with my sick toddler because he likes rice and he didn't want to eat much today. We were super disappointed with this restaurant and we won't be back. read more

The Lion has been a staple at Vail for the many years we've been coming here, but we tend to avoid it during busy times. On December 7, there's few people in town and the bars are mostly empty, so we stopped in. I ordered a beer, but the waitress didn't ask me if I wanted the 14 or 21 oz for obvious reasons, I suppose. It seemed like 14, but they charged for 21. I thought the spinach artichoke dip was OK, my wife didn't like it. She ordered a vodka & tonic, but it tasted like neither. When she complained about the drink, the waitress - a Ms Morgan B. - said that she didn't make it and asked if my wife wanted another shot of vodka, which turned out to add an additional $13 to the bill. If you are a waitress reading this, "I didn't make the drink" is the wrong response to a customer's complaint. "Would you like something else," or "I'll have the bartender make you another" works better, if you care. As for the entertainment that afternoon, a guy named Andy Cyphert was playing the Eagles "Peaceful, Easy Feeling" at about half speed when we walked in and by the time he finished, I felt like sticking a fork in my ear drum. We left as he was droning on through Bill Wither's "Ain't No Sunshine." Our conundrum is that one of our Vail favorites, Johnny Mogambo is playing there tomorrow night. Maybe we'll just go and drink Tequila shots. read more

I always thought this place is a bar/party place but they actually have good food. We got in after a long flight and just walked in to wherever was open. Omg, I got my trout fix. Living near, and traveling around the Rocky Mountains, I start to crave a fresh fillet of trout. This was cooked quite nicely and filleted perfectly! It also came with a creamy looking sauce with parsley I guess, but it really didn't taste like anything. The fish had a slight fishy taste, but it, all in all, was just fine. Kudos to the chef on the prep, I would give that 5th star of the sauce had some flavor, btw. My server, Carlos, really came through when I told him that broccoli didn't like me. He initially told me he couldn't sub the sides, but when he returned a little while later, he told me that the chef was going to do it and asked if fries were okay. They were great, in fact. I'm leaving very happy. In Vail, one would do well to get a half sandwich and cup of soup for the cost of this trout entree! There were several restaurants in Vail that were limited due to the Covid pandemic. After a full day of skiing I was looking for a quick bite and stumbled across Red Lion on my walk back. I was tired, hungry and craving old fashioned burgers and a few drinks. Me and a few friends were able to be seated right away. We had the option of sitting indoors or on the patio. Since the sun was still out we decided to sit on the patio. Our only complaint about the outdoor seating was once the sun went down it for really cold. Some heaters would have been a good idea. Other than our single complaint, the service and the food were really good. We were able to order and get our food in a timely matter. If you're looking for a quick bite after skiing or a break from the slopes then this is a nice place to check out. read more
