What a great place to grab a snack and a beer! Such amazing views up here on this beautiful mountain! This is a great place for a quieter lunch or snack and it was still quite comfortable and had excellent service. We each enjoyed a beer and shared a Buffalo Chicken Dip which came with celery, carrots and tortilla chips. They bring you a large carafe of water as soon as you sit down which was nice. The dip was delicious and was quickly gone! There were cool photos framed and displayed all around the room. I recommend this spot if the crowded cafeterias are not your jam. read more

Being a restaurant on top of a mountain in a ski resort area, it's really pretty good! We tried their lamb reuben and beef sandwich and they're both delicious! Well we could be biased because we were very hungry, and everything tastes better when people are hungry haha. I've never had a lamb reuben before, but man it was so delicious! It's definitely expensive, but at least it was good. The view was also nice and the place had tall ceilings. The service was friendly but a bit slow that day. Was expecting a high-end mountaintop lunch but Bistro Fourteen is not what it seems like at first glance. If you are expecting nice service in a relaxing atmosphere, this is not it. Pretty much everyone else who was seated around us had the same reaction. The main gripe is that after you are seated and presented with $25 elevated sandwich options, you are instructed to queue at a single cash register to place your order. Huh? After waiting in line for ten minutes, placing your order, and being asked to pay upfront, you're then presented with aggressive suggested tip amounts. 20+ minutes after having been seated, I had to flag someone down to bring water to the table. After we drank the entire carafe of water, we were back to not being acknowledged. Food was good considering it's a marginal (25%) price increase over cafeteria burgers and chicken tenders. Food came out at a decent cadence. Service was consistently absent. Chairs are basic hard metal mountain lodge chairs with no padding. read more

Let's face it. We all know that you're not going to get the best food at the best prices on top of a 10,000-foot tall mountain. The skiers, snowboarders, and tourists of all ilk are there for mountain and are pretty much a captive audience for whatever types of food there happens to be on top. We ended up eating at Bistro 14 because a $20 food voucher was included in our gondola tickets. Otherwise, we wouldn't have even attempted an overpriced resort place like this for lunch. Given all of that, it wasn't terrible. The food actually tasted very good (even if costing double its actual value). My husband and I split the charcuterie tray and the turkey pot pie. For two people, this was plenty of food. One of my only complaints is that our server specifically asked if we wanted the pot pie split into 2 plates and I said no. When they brought it out, it was split into two plates. Oh well... Also, there were not nearly enough crackers on the charcuterie tray to go with that much meat and cheese, so we asked for more. All in all, good quality food and not "junk food" so if you're looking to eat healthier on top of the mountain, I'd recommend it over the food-court style places with pizza and burgers. Just be prepared for the prices, including built-in resort gratuity. read more

The views are beautiful and this is the only reason that you would eat here in the evenings. The service was good on this evening. The ahi tuna salad was decent, but I was very disappointed by the portion of the tuna that accompanied the salad. There was only 5 or 6 thinly sliced pieces, so very little protein to make it a meal. The beet salad looked like it had canned beets and could tell that the beet were even roasted. For the price of the salads, I was disappointed with the portions and quality. Also, order the bakes oysters, which was OK and went well with our salads. The one really great point of the restaurant is that it has a wonderful kids' menu. For $10, the kids started with a carrot and fruit plate, then had spaghetti with cheese and a hamburger as their entree (respectively), and then dessert with ice cream+brownie. This worked out well for us. Just for this point, we will come back because as parents I will pretty much eat anything as long as my kids are taken care of. Lastly, if you have a gluten sensitivity, ask for their gluten sensitive menu. They are very accommodating in regards to this dietary requirement. Overall, we would come back to make the most out of the fee for the gondola. read more

We stumbled upon this place after a snowshoe tour at the top of Eagle's Nest on Vail mountain. A few people were saying that it's not worth it to buy the pass to ride up on the gondola, and the views (in the day anyway) are breathtaking, but we had our lift tickets still so we just rode up. Upon arrival, we were seated right away and had a quirky but attentive waiter. I didn't really notice a whole lot about the atmosphere, not good or bad, but there was a beautiful sectioned photograph of the mountains above the bar. The food was all good, not incredibly memorable but everyone enjoyed their food and was satisfied. I ordered chicken tacos. For me, it was just the right amount of spicy-ness (not much at all) and the rice and beans were nice on the side. Then we asked for a dessert menu, because we are on vacation right?, and he just brought out a small brownie with ice cream and whipped cream and sprinkles on top. They regularly give these to diners but you have to ask, so be sure to do so! It was a nice little treat at the end of our meal! read more

We took the gondola up (summer) and hiked over to this restaurant and the zip lining, etc. We were here on 7/15/14. When we bought the gondola tickets they asked if we wanted to buy discount lunch tickets for 6.00 each that would give us 30.00 off lunch. If we didn't use them we could get a refund so we went for it. The food and service was really good! Hubby and I both had the fried chicken and LOVED it. Really really good! The kids liked their food and the fact that they got a starter and a sundae as well. We will definitely return if we have the chance. read more

Located at the top of the Eagle Bahn Gondola from Lion's Head at 10,350 ft (!!!), this was the only waiter service restaurant on the mountain and thank goodness we could get away from the pub and overpriced food court/cafeteria foods found on most ski resort mountains. I was skiing with family all day in Vail and didn't want to go all the way into the village with our gear for a decent lunch. We were all really happy with our food and service there. I had the Chicken Pot Pie and it was delicious and a pretty big serving. They also have a wide selection of wines and beers. Great views of skiers passing by and there's a nice patio area that's pretty nice to sit out with a cup of hot apple cider if it's sunny. You can also enjoy this restaurant without hitting the slopes, just take the gondola up and down the mountain. I bought the $40 scenic ride ticket and got $20 voucher to eat here. Service was fast, waiter was friendly enough, but they are an overpriced lunch place if I may say so based on my experience. I ordered the lobster pasta. It cost $22 but with tax and gratuity (18% although I eat by myself, maybe because the voucher say so) it ended up to be $27. I will say the price was almost okay for the size, 8 medium pieces of lobster a lot of artichoke and a huge amount of pasta, but the taste was just normal. In fact the lobster was so overcooked I had a hard time chewing on it. Not going to eat here again even with the voucher. read more

It was a nice evening in Vail to take the gondola for free up the mountain to bistro 14. The ride up with twinkling lights below is fun in the dark. They have fun cocktails and a decent beer list. We opted to start with the mussels appetizer. This is an absolute must! The broth alone was an instant addiction. We asked for more dipping bread as we did not want to waste the broth. They spiced it up with chorizo! I had the chicken tacos for dinner. It was $18 for two tacos, some rice and beans. Nothing to write home about. I'd say the meat needed a bit more salt. Dessert is great because they are small desserts for $3.50 or three for $9. We went with 3 desserts. The lemon one, carrot cake, and valrhona chocolate. Perfect smaller portions for a bit of sweetness at the end of the meal. A delightful gondola ride back down and free parking as we were under 2 hours. read more

For a ski resort restaurant, it is pretty good. Especially when you compare the food/prices to cafeterias on the mountain. Do no go however if you are not already on the mountain. My dad and I had been skiing all day and the rest of my family (not skiing) took the 30 minute shuttle/gondola ride to get there. And they were very underwhelmed. In sum...decent food, not fabulous. Go if on mountain...avoid if in village. Good news: they have happy hour specials. We went on a Thursday and they had Bud Lights for $2. Not bad. read more

Have been here twice in the last month while up in Vail/Lionshead for a summer weekend. If you're visiting from out of town or have out-of-town visitors, this is a good place to take them to enjoy breathtaking views from an observation area 10K feet up, after a fun 10-15 minute gondola ride. Yes, the food is predictably pricey, but it it solid and it has a kids menu to help families defray the cost. Our server, Mike (from Oxford, MS), was great both times. Note: unless you have an Epic Pass (a ski pass for locals), the gondola ride can be quite pricey. In the summer, it is $42 pp! However, during the summer on Thurs-Sat after 5PM, the gondola ride was only $20 pp and you got a $20 food voucher to use here. read more

Cold fries, a bun that was rock hard on top and soggy on bottom, stringy overdone bland meat, and everyone else's food at our table was just as bad. Really mediocre menu as well. Such a shame given the neat location. Service was ok. Not great, not awful. The server saw I hadn't eaten a bite of my food and did not ask if it was ok or anything, just asked if we wanted dessert. Great fun dinner for the families. Thursday's 2-1 entrees was great! Small menu but unique. Food was decently good but the service was excellent. Marianna was our server and was so attentive considering we had 4 toddlers with us. As soon as we sat down, she gave us complimentary carrots/grapes for the kiddos. Located at the top of the mountain this restaurant is accessible via gondola ride. The hamburger was very good, and the fries were delicious. When I was there in August they were running some great wine specials as well. The Italian wedding soup was also very good. Great atmosphere, friendly staff, and quality food. Best crushed rare seared tuna ever! This menu is tricky tho. Looks like u could get a bad meal if you don't know what to order. The waitress recommended this and it was a huge portion and cooked to perfection! We also ordered the arugula salad with buffalo cheese it was amazing. The Moscow mule was yummy. Also, as a side note, if you are under 180lbs, go jump on the trampolines! The guys there are a hoot, especially if you have had a few cocktails. I think gratuities should be earned not an additional fee added to your bar tab. First round was $14.25 the next round was $16.85. Questioned the bartender to find out he charged gratuity on the second round which was exactly the same. I understand that some charge gratuity for large groups but you're informed at the get go. Bistro Fourteen located in the gondola house at the top of the Eagle Bahn was an amazing choice for lunch and I was blown away at the menu selection, value, and quality of service. The complementary corn bread was to die for and somehow the local micro brews manage to taste even better at 11,200 feet. Don't miss this place. Complete disaster. We spent $30 to ride the gondola to this place. We had a reservation at 8pm and were on time. We were seated and sat for 20 minutes while being completely ignored. Gentleman next to us was smiling and told us the service was incredibly bad and the food was about the same. We left and I complained to thbe hostess. One of the servers with a blond ponytail was extremely rude. He sarcastically wished me a nice day 4 times and let me know they were as hard as they could. I came for the experience and left completely flabbergasted. My boyfriend and I stopped in for a glass of wine at the bar before skiing down the mountain at the end of the day. The bartender, whom I'm told goes by the initials "BP," asked if we wanted a bottle and we declined, saying we'd stick with a single glass each. After he served our drinks, we were surprised by the weird and inappropriate comments he was making to people around the bar, who were doing their best to ignore him. (I thought he might just be socially awkward so I shrugged it off). Then he started creeping on the girl sitting next to us. She looked visibly uncomfortable as he read aloud all the vital statistics on her driver's license, including her birthday, height, weight and home address. Then, when it came time to pay our bill, we saw that he charged us for five beers that we never ordered. When we pointed this out, he looked over the bar where we were sitting, expressing doubt that we only had two glasses of wine (We had been there 20 minutes tops and there were two empty wine glasses in front of us!) The whole encounter had been weird, and unfortunately he heard me mutter frustration under my breath. "Do you have a problem?" he asked me in a confrontational tone. "No," I said. "Do you have a problem?" "Well, I heard you say 'Jesus Christ' and whenever I hear my name I have to answer." By this time, the manager had come to correct the overcharged bill, and as BP handed back our credit card, he was sticking out his middle finger--clearly flipping us the bird! The petite dessert is really good but not in the menu. Be sure to ask for it. However we were there because a storm caused the tram to stop service and it was not pleasant to be stuck here for 3-4 hours. Our whole afternoon was wasted.
